"If Harry Potter, Star The Next Generation, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and Rick and Morty all got together and had a baby." Paul Ridge, Editor "Original, wry, sometimes funny, and always action-packed, Billy Twigg and the Storm of Shadows is engrossing and sets the stage for further books which will be eagerly anticipated by all ages." D. Donovan, Senior Reviewer, Midwest Book Review DREAMS MAY COME TRUE. NIGHTMARES DO. A ghastly veil of darkness is seeping slowly south from the Arctic Circle, choking the life out of the world beneath. It brings with it Typhon, a deranged abomination laying waste to any civilisation he finds. Thousands of people are dead. If he goes unstopped, millions more will follow. High school teen Billy Twigg, is moments away from a death more horrific than anyone could possibly imagine. He has no recollection of how he's come to be lying broken and exhausted in the demolished remains of a famous British landmark until a fraction of a second before he is to be killed. Then he remembers everything in a deluge of nightmarish memories that are too crazy to believe, yet too shattering to ignore. Could this unassuming young man really be Earth's saviour? Prepare to be enthralled by a genre-blurring page-turner that will leave you breathless with anticipation and begging to resolve the next cliffhanger!
Billy Twigg and the Storm of Shadows (The Billy Twigg Saga, #1) by Ninian Carter is a pretty clever book. An easy to get lost in fantasy more for teens and young adults focused around a 13 yr old boy. Lots of intrigue, adventure, and action. Kept my interest. Won this from the Kindle Scout program.
I LOVED this book. I thought it was only for young teens - but I got so caught up in it I could NOT put it down. Kept me riveted until the end and loved how author used one Chapter to write as those the dog were talking in the first person. Can't WAIT until the next in this series.............
I must confess the first chapter was a challenge, but after getting into the rythm of Billy Twigg he firmly grabbed a hold of me. I almost could not put it down. Brilliant new talent! I cannot wait for the next adventure!!
What a fabulously entertaining story about a boy who has to save Earth from annihilation. There's plenty of action, funny moments, and terrifying situations. The world is highly detailed and the writing verging on poetic at times. The characters get under your skin: you'll love them or hate them. Even the villains, however, have moments where you'll sympathize with them. Billy is a reluctant hero, but accepts his role and thinks of the perfect solution to destroying his foe. (You'll have to read the story to see if he succeeds.) Sal is a vivacious and funny alien. She quite often steal the show. And Typhon is a dastardly evil villain. My biggest complaint is the cover of a boy asleep on the ground (on Amazon) doesn't do the story justice. It looks more like a thriller or mystery, and not the sci-fi adventure that it is. (The cover of the black hole here is so much better.)
