Confessions of a Wallflower is a collection of poetry, prose, quotes, and personal journals about depression, self-love, love, loss, and healing. It's a journey to pain, sorrow, and suffering where the only destination is hope.
Juansen Ryne Dizon is a poet and a dreamer. He is a lone wolf and loves to be in solitude and hopes to live in nature where he can kiss the beauty of existence with his words. His work explores the themes of depression, hope, healing, romance, and the love for life.
Juansen lost his life when he fell into depression when he was nineteen years old and lived in isolation where he discovered his love for writing poetry as a means to calm him from being tormented by his demons.
His best friends and family describe him as soft-hearted and sweet, and when he cannot contain the love he feels for you, he will invite you for a dance as his way of saying thank you for being in my life.
Reading confessions of a Wallflower was, for me, like taking a journey... with various stops along the way: sorrow, pain, love, heartbreak and ultimately the final destination of self healing. Which is what I love about Juansen's poetry... despite the struggles of negative emotions which are evident in his words, there is always that feeling of hope... like finding an oasis in the midst of depression.
So whilst it is easy to feel the depression and the pain, it doesn't consume the reader, it doesn't make the reader become depressed. Rather, readers who have never experienced any form of mental illness can now understand the emotions and empathize with those who suffer that inward pain. And for those who have bouts of depression and anxiety, they can readily relate to these poems and after reading, can feel hopeful because, through Juansen Dizon's poetry, they can come to realize that they are not alone and that the sadness and struggles are all part of their inner beauty and can accept their uniqueness as part of who they are as human beings. The way in which Juansen has sectioned these poems, reading can be likened to therapeutic, emotional healing.
Juansen has also been able to paint the emotion of love that exists between two persons as a most beautiful , wonderful gift. His poems clearly express a feeling that many of us yearn for, live for... die for...
I have, without a doubt, immensely enjoyed reading Confessions of a Wallflower. I look forward to any future publications by this writer. What journey will his poetry take readers on next?
I am quite picky when it comes to the poetry that I read, so I picked this one up on a whim. I absolutely loved the journey that this collection sent me on. It talks about so many important things, and reminds you of what it truly means to feel. I would recommend this to anybody that needs a little bit of love or understanding.
This is a talented young author who has an amazing view of life and his path through it. Mostly short pieces of work, they are to the point, get his feelings and ideas across Oh so beautifully, it's a stunning collection. I can't wait for more in the next book.
I loved most of the writing in this collection but one struck out to me which made my opinion of the author and book change a little. The poem was talking about how he wanted to live in a perfect word. He mentioned how he wish birth control, condoms, etc were used more then abortion (something along those lines). Birth control and condoms aren’t 100% effective and him mentioning abortion in a poem about mental illness and how he was dealing with things made me think he put that poem in there to tell everyone his opinion on that matter. That is why my rating is so low because I believe that abortion is a right a woman should have.
I started reading this book with no expectations, because I wouldn't have liked to think that it would be bad. I found that it is totally the contrary. What Juansen Dizon wrote is able to make you feel like you are in that journey against depression, anxiety and love with him. This book was able to make me feel love, loneliness, sadness, happiness, hope, and it taught me to embrace it. This book is a journey through this man's life, and it is a great one.
I don't think something this raw and personal should be rated, but I will to show support. So much respect to the author who put this out there. I read this in one sitting which is probably not the way this should be read. This definitely isn't something I would normally read as far as poetry goes, but I'm glad I did.
I've really been into poetry books lately & was really excited to read this book after I heard about it on social media. It truly met my expectations! I loved the unique writing style & the raw feelings & emotions throughout. It was relatable & powerful & one I'd recommend to anyone who is lost or broken & needs something to relate to.
Forget everything you have ever read, because Confessions of a Wallflower will be one of the most authentic and honest pages you will ever get to read. The attempts of self-love and self-reflection will leave you pensive about yourself, too. The author indicates that anxiety might make everything a little harder but it is still no reason to miss out on taking chances to be happy. What I learned? Mental illness might have a great influence on you and there might not be the sun after rain but there will surely be a way to deal with it in a healthy way. Your purpose might be to find it. This poetry collection did not just lead me to think if there's a way - now I know there is.
This might be one of my favorite books ever. This book itself is a journey. Through the deep woods of depression to the sunlight that peaks through the trees. Love, sadness, hope, hopelessness, rock bottom, relapse, and hope again. This book isn't just about healing its about feeling, and accepting all of the bad. There is never good without bad, this book is so honest, so raw, and so painfully true that you can't look away. A quote that I resonated with; " It's crazy how I'm still alive after turning into a storm a couple days ago. And I'm still breathing. And I'm still feeling. And I know that I am like a cloud that absorbs sadness from this world so easily but right now at this very moment I am okay. I am a cumulus cloud. And I will endure my future storms for moments like this." (227)
My brother bought for me this book and I really enjoyed it. Reading confessions of a Wallflower was, for me, it just like taking a journey with various stops along the way: sorrow, pain, love, heartbreak and ultimately the final destination of self healing. Love it!

Confessions of a Wallflower had potential, but overall I was let down. The prose is extremely repetitive and doesn’t do the best at telling a story. There is also minimal concrete imagery used, so getting a clear picture of what the author is feeling is difficult. I also would have loved an explanation/prose about why the author associated the color blue so strongly with sadness.
I appreciate talking about the subject of mental illness as it is important, but I do feel like this collection “romanticized” the illness. I think I would have liked and related to this more in high school.
This is a well written poetry book. It has a lot of poems and pages in it. When reading it I felt like I could relate to a lot of the poems in it. It is like going through a journey with the author. I would recommend it as one of the top poetry books I’ve read.
Found this book in my sisters bookshelf and picked it up and just knew I had to read. I related to this book so much and made me feel like I wasn’t alone. 10/10 I love this book. Once I started reading every heartfelt poem I couldn’t stop. Well done.
Deals with depression and suicidal ideation. Also about love and hope.
This book is not well edited. The author is young and evolving. He has some very quotable work here and is evolving as a writer. I would love to see his stuff in 10 years.
Confessions of a Wallflower is Juansen Dizon's first book of poetry. The poems are divided into four sections: the depression, the love, the loss, and the self-love. The reader is brought along on the emotional roller coaster implied by the section names. As much as this book is about facing darkness, it is also about recognizing the power we hold within ourselves to find healing and light.
The poems are well ordered and have a good sense of flow, with many poems often picking up on a word or an idea from the preceding poem. The poems display emotional depth, vulnerability, and self-awareness. There are some powerful metaphors, such as likening love to oxygen and depression to cancer for the soul. Sadness is described as a double-edged sword that is both curse and blessing.
The book touches on difficult topics like wanting to die. In the author's list of thirteen rules for his life, the final two are "I am required to live" and "I am not allowed to kill myself." Juansen explores both his depression and his social anxiety, and the isolation this can bring.
The poems contemplate the power of love, both in a positive and a destructive sense, as the book moves from finding love to losing love. The complex thoughts and emotions associated with love are pared down into simple yet powerful words. The concluding section of the book gives attention to self-love, which we all too often don't pay enough attention to.
Sadness is explored deeply in this book. It is connected to depression, but Juansen also writes about how positive things can come from sadness, including love and healing. He cautions that "sadness cannot be buried with positive thoughts", something that resonated with me as I have certainly never been able to think my way out of depression.
At the beginning of the book, Juansen writes that he hopes that this book will change him. I think it is a book that has the power to change readers, as well.
