**'Using coincidences in your premise will not always work with your storytelling. And those same coincidences might not even be beneficial to the story..'

Average plus problematic storytelling, wack dialogue, cheesy all around interactions and even forced insta romance between the main characters but at least there were a few good secondary ones.

3 1/2 Stars. This is a debut book from Sellars, and an enjoyable read. I thought the actual writing was quite good. Sellars did not fall into the trap of "telling" readers, like many first time authors do. This book did have a lot of lesfic tropes, but it didn't stop this from being a good read.

The story is about Parker, broken hearted after her marriage of 10 years, ended in infidelity. Parker, wants to start a new life in a new home, and wants to stay far away from a new relationship. When Parker meets Sydney, the attraction is immediate. But Sydney is the biggest player in the bar, sleeping her way through women. Parker sees too many similarities between Sydney and her ex wife. But the more they see each other, the harder it is to stay away. Are they destined to remain friends with benefits, or is a real loving relationship in their future?

Both character are likeable. I had a little trouble with the "player" Syd, but I warmed to her quickly. They are both smart, successful, beautiful people, but the two of them still have plenty of drama to go around. I thought the romance was well done. There is absolute chemistry and good steamy sex scenes. I really enjoyed them as a couple.

My only real issue, with this book, was all the tropes. There was so many, I felt like I could fill out half of my lesfic Bingo card. I think the real reason for so many was Sellars was trying to keep the reader engaged, and just went a little overboard. This book didn't nearly need so many, Sellars writing was good enough without them.

I recommend this book to those looking for a sweet and sexy romance, as long as you don't mind some drama. I think Sellars will only get better with more experience, and I look forward to reading more from her.

An ARC was given to me by BSB, for a honest review.

I have mixed feelings on how to rate and review Lightning Strikes. This book has all the elements of solid writing, good characterizations, and witty dialogue. Parker and Sydney are easy to like, have fascinating careers and cool warehouse apartments. The sex scenes are done well and there is even some impending danger to bring our mains closer together.

My problem lies in the predictable tropes and how quickly our two mains meet, fall in love, and resolve their differences. The book reads like a butch’s wet dream. Sydney is tall and muscular, perfect for the very femme Parker. Syd has a fabulous job, a Porsche in the driveway and a kickass apartment. She sticks to one night stands as she doesn’t believe in commitment. A third of the way into the novel, Parker has won over player extraordinaire Sydney and that’s about all that happens. Oh sure, there is conflict introduced to build tension but it is hard to take seriously when When danger is introduced, Sydney goes into predictable protection mode.

I struggled to stay interested in their lives once Parker and Sydney got together. More effort to ramp up the threat to their happiness was needed to engage this reader.

I was hooked with drama with parents, ex-wife and stalker what a cast of characters but on a happy note we have good friends and we have Parker and Syd. I hope there is more of Syd and Parker in the next book.

Wow, what a wonderful book/story. I loved every bit of it, unbelievably well written, wonderful choice of words, awesome characters, I can still feel the sizzeling electricity between the two main characters. I am craving for more! Well done, Mrs Sellars.

This book is excellently written! The characters are real, honest, the interaction is great! I have to say I prefer Parker to Syd, but my personal preference is just that, a personal, and it doesn't mean that both characters are not equally good. The book is a great read, it's an easy read, and I would gladly recommend it to anyone.

Loved this…SO MUCH!!!

Parker’s marriage of ten years has gone horribly wrong after she found her partner cheating on her. Moving on with her life, Parker heads out to celebrate her divorce with some friends. She meets Sydney at the club and they have a moment, but Parker isn’t emotionally ready for anything, not even one night and she runs. When she moves into her new home, her path crosses with Sydney when she discovers they are neighbours. Sydney and Parker can’t deny they are attracted to one another, and when one of Sydney’s past demons turn up to haunt her, Parker is there to help her out of a sticky situation. Despite Parker’s assistance, past demons don’t leave them alone but with their growing relationship they stand to threaten everything.

As a romance, this was wildly romantic, filled with such passion and so very beautiful. Parker and Syd really were destined for one another and it was totally as the title suggests, like lightening striking and waking them both up. Parker needed Syd despite having hesitations, and insecurities about her past, and Parker was just what Syd needed to change her ways before things got completely out of hand. I adored the whole premise of the story, from how they met, to how they fell in love, and how they loved each other in an unconditional way. Two souls that really were just destined to be one. They were so complete, really understood and got each other.

I also adored the underlying demons Cass brought with this story. They were unique, unpredictable, and not what I expected at all. At times I was completely terrified because you genuinely had no idea when the dangers presented by these demons were going to crop up, and as they appeared in many different, and very clever forms you just couldn’t have predicted the effects were going to have. But this is what brought all the drama and excitement, and for me it secured my love of the story because it wasn’t just the ‘usual’ drama hang-ups of falling in love that stood in the way. Some of these were genuinely beyond Syd and Parker’s control.

I absolutely loved this and can’t wait to read the next nook in the series! It had romance, mystery, crime, and great Butch Femme dynamic that melted me! I highly recommend this amazing story!

Cass Sellars is a talented author! I loved Lightning Strikes!

A wonderful read! Cass creates amazingly honest characters, blending in real life events with a beautiful twist of humor and heart felt connection!

Parker is nursing a broken heart after she discovers her wife cheating on their anniversary. Parker chooses to move on and embrace a new path. Parker is crafted in strong, yet vulnerable way that gives the reader insight into a beautiful soul who has to face a challenge many readers will journey.

Syd is the ultimate playgirl. After Parker ends up meeting Syd, the two form a wonderful friendship. Each one honest with the other one about where they are in their lives. Syd beings to naturally question her own beliefs about relationships and the authentic heart in Parker.

The book goes on to offer the reader a delightful insight into two souls who communicate honestly, embrace each other's lives. I don't want to give to much away but there is a stalker who tries to disrupt their lives. It's done nicely and adds a level of depth to the story line.

I love the humor, compassion, and action of this story. It's nicely paced and offers funny experiences with friend and family!

I enjoyed her Parker's dad Partick. I wasn't a big fan of her mom Sylvia. However they both were well written and I laughed a few times out loud with her Dad and scene with thinking about driving Syd's porsche. Jenny and Mac were caring friends. And finally Richard & Allen were supportive, but also portrayed realistically in their emotional caution about Parker being hurt so soon after her wife's betrayal.

To sum up is a beautifully written book for anyone who enjoys a fun, thoughtful and action oriented romance!

Parker Duncan has sworn off love and forever since she discovered her wife—her ex-wife—cheating on her on their tenth anniversary. Sydney Hyatt doesn’t even do overnight. She attracts women effortlessly, then discards them after an hour or two of mutual pleasure. They meet at a party celebrating Parker’s divorce, and they’re tailor-made for a no-strings encounter. But demons past and dangers present threaten the lovers, and Parker and Sydney must fight to find new traditions in dark spaces as they cling to the relationship neither of them thought she wanted.

This is the debut novel by this author, the first of her Lightning series. It's a romance between recent divorcee Parker Duncan and one night stand extraordinaire Sidney Hyatt. They meet, none of them wanting a commitment, but the attraction is stronger. You can guess the rest as this is a romance. Nothing wrong with this. However, my issue with this book is that as their relationship evolves they encounter a number of clichéd situations that seem too stereotypical and simplistic in their development and resolution. I don't want to give much away but let's say it involves exes, homophobic parents, etcetera. The portrayal of the main characters as femme-butch, gorgeous-handsome, both well-off successful professionals makes them too stereotyped. Again, nothing wrong with that but it is not my cup of tea.

Overall, an ok read. 3 stars.

I enjoyed this book. I had a little trouble getting into the story at the beginning. I would say it was about the 1/4 mark before the characters started to grab me and things heated up.
The main characters Parker and Syd are great. There are nice secondary characters as well. There were several instances of strife that led to a good deal of tension surrounding the main characters. But, the romance was sweet and there was nice chemistry between them.
All in all a good read.

Sydney doesn’t do relationships meanwhile Parker just got out of a long-term relationship with her ex-wife. They are both not looking for their relationship to be more than a fling but not everything goes as that they thought they would.

At first, it was hard to like Sydney but I quickly warmed up to her and she turned out to be quite likeable. Meanwhile, Parker was easy to like since the start.

This is the first book of the lightning series by Cass Sellars I’ve read and I can’t wait to read the other installments of the series. Luckily for me, they are already published and I don’t have to wait to read them.

A handsome roguish butch is seen as a temporary distraction for a heartbroken femme. The distraction becomes all-consuming and both women have to overcome their resistance to romance. The story is charming even if a bit predictable.

I don't read much F/F, but I've tried a few and I've been trying to expand my horizons lately. Lightning Strikes sounded promising, even if it was from a newbie author. Sadly, I was disappointed by this one.

I want to encourage this author to keep writing because there was some good there. Maybe much of my issues have to do more with taste than anything else, but I had a number of problems.

When it comes to romance, if you are going to introduce a rake/avowed-bachelorette character and then sell me on the turn-around, you REALLY need to sell me. I just didn't believe for a second that Sydney would go from avoiding all relationships like the plague to devoted girlfriend in the first 20% of the story. It was waaaay too fast for me. I like a slow-burn, and the cuddles and pet names seemed to come out right from the start.

However, my big issue was the cartoonish characterization of Becky. It turned into soap opera-style drama, and it became completely over-the-top. I was practically rolling my eyes, and I just hated how the stalker issue was shoved into the story. It detracted from the romance.

I also had a few little issues that I'm not quite sure how to address. I felt like Sydney was a little weird about what was "acceptable lesbian behavior," like making fun of Becky's pink car (calling it "too femme") and making jabs at straight people. She also was too aggressive with Parker in the beginning, which I didn't love. I also don't read enough lesbian fic to know how tropey this book was... but it felt tropey even to me.

Though I'm being pretty negative, I think that there was some good writing there, however, I wasn't thrilled by this book as a whole.

First in the Lightning Series this was the debut novel from Cass Sellars and makes a great start for a new author.

Parker, high flying HR exec with a great job and wonderful friends, has a disastrous personal life after catching her wife in bed with a younger more exciting model on their 10th anniversary. Selling up their house and starting again has made her realise how beige her life has become, but she is definitely not in the market for romance.

Sydney is the ultimate player, whoever she glances at falls at her feet and apart for one short term relationship she doesn’t even do overnights. When they meet at a party their attraction is instant, but what neither expect is to meet again, and certainly not to begin a relationship neither one feels ready for.

These main characters are intelligent well-rounded women, not exactly ‘older’ but late 30’s with mature lives and complex emotional energy. They have built a place in the world and both have style and class as well as intricate back histories. They and their friends are likeable and realistic with their fears and concerns, people we can invest in.

The romance between Sydney and Parker is both an instant flash and a slow burn, both women are commitment shy and while they get together very quickly and both realise their own feelings are growing, it takes time for the relationship to solidify.

The romance is matched with a more sinister plot of the mad ex stalking and ultimately invading their new world in a most unexpected way, which both brings them together but also threatens to overwhelm their fledgling relationship.

Well written and edited this was a pleasure to read, and a decidedly good start from a debut author. I did feel the story faded a little towards the end, almost waiting for the sequel, but as a series addict I can live with that feeling of anticipation.

My first thought is light and fun read. Parker Duncan, recovering from a broken relationship and broken heart meets Sydney Hyatt, the heartbreaker with an interest in changing her ways. When the two meet, it appears to be a mismatch but wait, not so fast. Though the plot feels very familiar with the heartbreaker butch and the heart broken femme and the mystery person working to keep them apart, it was interesting enough to keep me reading because of the nice chemistry between Sydney and Parker.

For a debut, I feel as though Sellars did a fantastic job. Rarely do you read a debut book and enjoy it from start to finish. I enjoyed the characters, especially Parker. Sad appeared to reform over night. This usually drives me nuts while reading a romance. Sellars wrote Syd’s character in such a way that this didn't even bother me. The story flowed well and I didn't feel any lulls while reading. Have already put Sellars on my future read list. If you are looking for a sweet romance, for an easy weekend read pick this one up. You will not be disappointed.

An honest review thanks to NetGalley. This was a great read, I didn't put it down for a couple of hours, I got sucked into Parker's life and the chemistry between her and Syd. The backstory came together perfectly and I loved Sydney's job description. If there was one thing that didn't make this book to five stars it was the situation with Becky. I felt as if it happened and was over majorly quick. As if it was open ended and not enough substance to that part of the story line. Overall this was a fantastic book and I am excited to read more from this author.

This was a pretty solid first book in what could be a fun series. There's a lot of ups and downs here, with the lows being fairly annoying, and the highs being really great. There are a lot of sexy scenes, and the dialog at times is perfect. But the villains of the book are, at best stereotypical, at worst caricatures.

The book starts off with Parker Duncan picking up the pieces after a heartbreaking divorce and move into a new apartment building. She's scared, sad, hurt, and hopeful that her new place will symbolize a new start. Her friends bring her to the local bar where she makes an instant connection with the local Casanova, Sydney Hyatt. They have instant chemistry, but Parker still needs the time to work through her bruised feelings, and she flees. Turns out that she doesn't have to run far because Syd is her neighbor.

This would have been fun as a will - they- won't - they type of thing, but it was definitely a they will, it was just a matter of what happens when they do start their relationship. Syd is too scared of staying in a monogamous relationship, while Parker is having trouble even being in one, so that tension was prevalent throughout the book. What kind of bugged me was the use of the stalker as a way to make Syd into a hero saving the damsel in distress type thing to help solidify their relationship. It wasn't necessary, and though the stalker aspect could have been a really integral part of the story, it felt tacked on. I would have rather them work through their feelings about their parents than through that stalker subplot.

It's clear at the end of the book that the relationship between our two ladies is still in the works, but they've come a long way from the start. Syd and Parker are compelling enough leads that make me want to carry on to the next book in the series.

This is a debut book for Ms. Sellars. It will be part of a “Lightning” series. I believe that Ms. Sellars has done a good job in character development. Readers will find this beneficial when they read book 2 in her series. It is important to feel connected to the characters to draw the readers into the next story.

The two main characters are Parker Duncan and Sidney Hyatt. Sidney is a strong, good looking butch who is only interested in one-night stands. She is comfortable with her personal and professional life—until Parker comes into her life. Parker is a sweet, pretty and sometimes naïve woman who has been burnt by her past partner of 10 years. Parker is only looking forward to carving out a cozy haven to mend her wounds. Of course, the title says it all – BAM … and there is the attraction. The attraction between Parker and Sidney is instantaneous. The bond that develops helps them to withstand a multitude of problems.

Lightning Strikes has a well-developed story line. Parker’s friends provide a very safe environment for her while she is healing from the broken relationship. Most of us can relate to these friends and look for more adventures with them.

I found this book to be a good read. It is one that you can finish in a weekend. When book 2 is published, I will be eager to enjoy the story. I rate this book a 4-1/2 stars out of 5.

I was given this ARC in return for a fair and honest review.

Cool book,

Wow, what a cool book! I enjoyed the plot and the characters very much from the start till the end. Parker and Sydney were very engaging characters. The supporting characters were were also very good. Dayne and Becky as the bed guys of the story served their purpose of the story well. I'm not sure if I read this correctly, but I think this is the first in a series. If that is the case looking forward to the next installment. Otherwise, I look forward to reading more stories from this author. Well done!

Butch player lothario that all the girls in the always jam-packed local gay bar fight over finds herself falling for the pretty femme who just got her heart broken when her long term partner cheated on so she's sworn off relationships, and definitely not going near handsome butch players....take a breath!

Think you've read this before? You probably have but the characters have different androgynous names (ffs). We also get a healthy dose of straight-bashing, preachy 'look at me standing up to my girlfriend's judgy parents' pontificating and butch physically saving the day by beating someone up - yay!

Best thing about this book is you could use it for a lesfic cliché drinking game.

This is not your typical Lesbian Romance, it’s so much better!!! Cass Sellars engulfs you in her world with Parker and Sydney in this mystery/romance. It’s impossible to not feel a deep connection with Parker and the dialogue with the other characters. The writing is so detailed that you feel as though you’re present and can actually picture what is happening. There was definitely intense parts where I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough and occasions when I shed both tears of sadness and happiness. Keep it coming Cass!

Cass Sellars has done an outstanding job with this debut novel! Well written, clever, and definitely kept me wanting more. I found the characters very absorbing throughout the story. Although all of them were easy to love, Syd and Parker were favorites! Couldn't wait to see when lightning would strike. I found this novel to have a mixture of everything I love. It had a great plot, suspense, surprise, and HOT characters! The intimate scenes were pretty steamy but tasteful and not explicit. Can't wait to read the next book in this series! Bravo Sellars, bravo........

Really enjoyed this story. The contemporary characters had me from the beginning. I found myself invested in all the secondary characters, which were well sketched, and the subplots/side stories. Descriptions were vivid without being trite. A great introduction to what I hope is a great series. Can't wait for Book 2.

I really wanted to love this book, but it just fell short for me. I started off pretty into it. I liked Parker and I found her backstory to be very interesting. I also really liked her friends and the way she acted around them! Even though I found some of a dialogue to be a bit awkward. Then we get to the bar and meet Syd. I immediately did not like her. She blatantly made Parker a bit uncomfortable but she kept trying to be flirty with her. Then she treated Becky kind of shitty, even though Becky was obviously crazy and I didn't like her either. Once Syd and Parker got together I liked Syd more, but I never truly warmed up to her. For me characters really make a book so that was a problem. I really liked the way this book handled a lot of topics, like standing up to Parker's parents, but the rest just seemed so dramatic. It's not a very big book, but it managed to have an extreme amount of crazy drama. It just seemed like a bit much to me. I also wasn't a huge fan of the language used. And this is a personal thing nothing more, but I hated almost every single 'cutesy' pet name used, and they were used a lot. When I hear those I just cringe and it makes it hard to notice the good things. This story honestly came off more like an intense fanfiction than anything else. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it didn't work for me in this case.

Hot damn!

I read this in one day! I couldn't put it down. I loved every single character, even the Barbie psycho. I really liked Parker from the start, she was somewhat of a broken woman in the beginning having to re-start her life again after divorcing her cheating wife and selling the home they had made a life in. But with all the friends she had around her, she managed to stay upbeat. I admired her strength to move on with her head held high. Syd was one tall drink of deliciousness. I naturally gravitated toward her and never peeled my eyes away. She was coined a "player" who never did commitment, and she did it well. It was a little bit of a cliché, the butch playboi, hopping from bed to bed, leaving little femmes' hearts shattered in her wake. But Sellars sold me on that cliché. Anyone can write a cliché, but if the writer tells it brilliantly, then who cares, right?

I loved how much we got to see Syd and Parker together and grow with their fast budding relationship. Parker was easy going, humorous, charming, and beautiful. She never demanded for Syd's time and attention, and she was clear up front about what she wanted. Syd was similar, but with a side of protective possessiveness toward Parker, and I loved that. They each had their own demons in their own lives to deal with, and they surprisingly dealt with those problems together as a loving, supportive couple. There wasn't a lot of drama between them, it was what tried to wedge between them is where the drama was. I liked the spin Sellars put in the story of the deranged stalker Syd had. She was clearly off her rocker crazy. You can't hide crazy no matter how pretty the package is. Unfortunately, the stalker had more balls than Parker. I was slightly disappointed in Parker when she folded like a cheap suit in the stalkers' presence. I understand it was frightening, but Parker had no fight in her, absolutely nothing, and my attraction for her fizzled a bit. Syd was the hero of the day, saving Parker and taking down the bad guy. There was a short lived moment afterward where Syd feared her own life was negatively affecting Parker and she stormed off like a child to sulk away her problems in the bottom of a glass. My fondness for Parker perked back up when I saw how she dealt with Syd's meltdown. It was Parker's way of saying "This is a grown-up relationship where we talk instead of running and hiding".

A fabulous, entertaining, sexy page turner that I highly recommend.
