Jacobin #24

Journey to the Dark Side

Rate this book
Nixon’s real crimes are not the petty ones of bribery and corruption which his fellow capitalists so hypocritically accuse him of. Our movement to dump Nixon must expose his real crimes against the people of Indochina, the Arab peoples and the people of Chile as well as the working and oppressed people here in the U.S. While these are not on Time Magazine’s or Senator Kennedy’s list of Nixon’s crimes, they must be added to our indictment of the Nixon government and the imperialist interests which he represents.

Everyone should be reading Jacobin right now. This was one of the best issues yet - both in terms of design and the content of the articles - good balance of sweeping analysis, concrete case studies, and light-hearted meme-making.

Jackie Robinson was a Republican party delegate during the Goldwater nomination? Crazy. More hate speak against liberals, Democrats who have historically lost after decades of marching towards the center and constantly betraying their base in favor of sucking off elitist bankers and big business. They've done nothing, even when owning all branches, to support workers' unions, inner cities or speak of an alternative program to Trumpism besides "more of the same". Not to mention the idiocy of the Clinton campaign. I still don't know what the lady stood for. Neoliberal, WTO, austerity, free trade bullshit I guess.

I read most of this around Christmas time but it ended up at the bottom of my reading pile. Finished the last few pieces this afternoon. It was striking to read this in the lame duck Trump era.
