When a senior captain is injured, Captain Charles Mullins is given temporary command of HMS Centaur for a brief period. When the former captain becomes implicated in an embarrassing scandal, Mullins remains in command longer than expected. After Moorish pirates take an East India Company ship, Centaur sails to North Africa to rescue the ship, passengers and crew. Later Captain Mullins takes his ship to the North Sea where he is ordered to capture an enemy island that may to be used for launching an invasion of the Caribbean.
While it is difficult to keep up with all the characters the author is one of the best I've read in innovative plot changes. Many text misprints such as calling his wife Dora when her name is Dorothy I put that down to conversion to Kindle.
He certainly knows his history and British naval history particularly and I've really enjoyed the insight into naval bureaucracy. Exciting books and quick reads. One becomes engaged with the characters.
Entertaining book about the naval Captain Mullins and his exploits. Naval battles are dealt with in such a way as to make them flow well, without them being tedious. I have enjoyed every book in this series.
I have already read all previous books in this series and I wasn't disappointed with the quality of this story. I'm looking forward to the in the series.
