A cryptic note leads the Blackmoore sisters to a haunted island in the Atlantic Ocean. Many have looked for the treasures reported to be buried there by pirates decades ago, but precious few treasures have been found. And certainly not the powerful energy-infused jewel the Blackmoores are looking for.

Abandoned for decades following several mysterious fatal accidents, the sisters have the island to themselves…or so they think.

Aided by a lonesome pirate ghost, they navigate a maze of tunnels dug into the rocks where they encounter ancient booby-traps, malevolent spirits and natural disasters.

But as they start to zero in on the location of the relic, it becomes clear that they are not alone and whoever else is on the island has no intention of leaving without the relic - even if it means killing the entire Blackmoore clan.

Island in Atlantic Ocean sounds like a perfect setting for a cozy mystery with treasure hunting, pirates... And it tastes like fresh fish. While reading the book I was mostly eating some seafood and fish soups.
Here we learn more about sisters powers and the ability to communicate with ghosts becomes really useful in this book. Though there is so much whining (like being useless sister, not having a proper abilitiy to help... come on! Some people will give a lot to have at least a small portion of the abilities you have).
I enjoyed the first 4-5 books of the series but towards the end it became less interesting, the mysteries are kinda the same and all the whining is so annoying!
I still love the setting, the idea and how easy it is to flow through the book to offload after a busy day at work.

Not a bad story, but I got annoyed by how "whiny" Celeste was in this one - "oh, I can't do anything fancy...oh all I can do is use my black-belt karate...oh, I just have a few charms that don't always work, but look, they found the vital clue".

Hopefully, she'll be less annoying in the next one.

I enjoy these fairly short books that fall into the paranormal mystery category. The Blackmoore sisters (Morgan, Fiona. Jolene, and Celeste) each have special abilities and now work for a government agency. Over the course of the series they've gone from realizing they have special "talents" to actually doing things to hone and develop them. All except Celeste, because her ability is to see and talk to ghosts, and she really can't do much to make ghosts appear if they don't want to.
Celeste has started to learn to do spells and inn this book Celeste is having a crisis of confidence and thinks she doesn't bring much to the assignments they're given.
They're assignment is go to an island off the coast of Nova Scotia to retrieve a power infused relic that once belonged to Marie Antoinette. The island is reportedly home to pirate ghosts and many accidents have happened there over the years. They aren't the only ones looking for this power infused relic.
Because of Celeste's ability to talk to ghosts she's able to find information that leads them to the relic. Will they find it before the evil Dr. Bly's henchmen find it?
It was an enjoyable story except I got tired of hearing about Celeste karate ability. Mentioning it a few times is fine, but after that I felt as if the author was beating me over the head reminding me that Celeste has a black belt.

Overall, a great story, as always. It grated on me a little, though, to read Celeste's very low opinion on herself. She never expressed it outwardly to her sisters, but being this book was primarily from her POV, it came off as lots of self doubt, self worth issues. The amount of it was very off putting. That is my only complaint though. The rest of the story was fun, light hearted and slightly mysterious. A little danger, a little wondering at what happens now when the girls think they are trapped. And then, of course, Belladonna's antics. I'd love to have a cat like her! Definitely worth the read. I can't wait for #9.

The author isn't paying attention to what she's writing again. The group gathers together to eat, use paper plates, then take those plates to be washed in a bucket.

The beginning of the book goes on and on about how Celeste only being able to do what she can do with her gift. This is repeated over and over and over, up to the very end. It's old at this point. It was repeated again and again in the last book. It would be one thing if it was written in a way to express those doubts by showing, but these books tell, they don't show, so it's repetitive and gets old fast.

At some point, Celeste seems to have Jo's personality, but since there isn't much difference in personalities, it's hard to say if it was an error or if all the sisters are just the same.

I found myself phasing out of this one again. A forgettable book with forgettable, unlikable characters.

3 stars.

This time the sisters and their men are tasked with finding a stone from Marie Antoniette's necklace that was sent away to safety during the French Revolution. Hmmm... if the stone was supposed to have such strong paranormal properties, maybe Marie should have kept it with her, and we'd have a totally different historical outcome? Just saying.

Anyway, we spent most of this book in Celeste's head. She's the sister who sees ghosts and is feeling inadequate, believing her abilities are not on par with her sisters and she has no paranormal defensive skills. Of course, at the end, it would be her that saves the day and finds the treasure. Again, there are some baddies to deal with and a ghost and two giving Celeste clues.

These books don't take things too seriously and therefore are an easy way to while away a few hours.

Anyone who has watched "Curse of Oak Island", on the History Channel, will recognize so many details in this book.

Rune Island = Oak Island (both located in Nova Scotia)
Treasure Pit = Money Pit

Booby traps, flooding tunnels, deaths occurring during digs, tales of treasure from the Knights Templar and pirates...all the same details. The jewels of Marie Antoinette which contain a relic, that's the author's addition to the Oak Island....oops, Rune Island story.

This novel is shorter than the first 7, but it was enjoyable; hey, it's got pirate ghosts! Except one tiny detail, the ghost of Dubonnet has a twin, now how did that happen?

Oak Island Rip Off

This was too much of a copy cat to the real Nova Scotia treasure island. You should have changed more of the details besides it being deserted, the caves and tunnels instead of a money pit. Real people have lost their lives on Oak Island and others have dedicated their lives searching for the treasure you easily ripped off in this tale. No one has told of find Marie Antoinette's jewels, yet, even after spending millions searching for them and other wonderful things. I have enjoyed dozens of your books. I am disgusted by this one.

Code breaking is an art

Not quite as good as the original series. A bit "pity me" attitude from one of the sisters that wasn't present before. Not sure that this was the right way to go as before they were all independent, confident but able to talk to each other. Treasure, code breaking, caves explosions and ghosts are all mixed into a plot to retrieve a power enhanced relic. Can the girls find it? Will anyone hinder their path? An okay plot but the characters were just too "off" from before.

Wah,wah,wah

Really?! These sisters work so well together and now that they know about each others gifts and their own abilities they are just now having sister ability envy! I find it interesting that they were all secure in their own heads until their Mother was found and brought home. Now all of a sudden each one of them is having her own identity crisis, and we poor readers are having to endure each cry baby's insecurities. If this is how the rest of the series are going to pan out...I'm moving on to another set of books.

Celeste

I have loved all the Blackmore books but this one was filled with too much Celeste whining. Every chapter she talked about her feelings of worthlessness. It took away from the story to listen to someone so down on themselves 98% of her storyline. It got so bad I skimmed the last half of the book and then read only the last two chapters after that. I will eventually start the next book in the series, but will give up on it if it is more of the same.

The Blackmoore sisters are off to an island supposed to be where many many pirates have buried their treasures, including a neclace worn by Marie Antoinette. Not only are they up against Bly's evil henchmen, they also encounter a 300 year old ghost who will not allow any of the islands treasure to be taken. They also have to overcome hidden booby traps and decaying cavern tunnels, all while trying to decode an ancient message to find the X that marks the spot.

cosy mystery

Cute and lighthearted. It makes little to no sense that after all the build up of healing powers, that no attempt was made to actually heal Christian. Speaking of which they don’t try to heal the mother and she plays almost no part in the story. Why don’t they try to at least get the aunt’s body and isn’t it possible that she’s not dead but nobody seems bothered that she’s left behind. Where’s the other party she reported to.

Sisters rock

The Blackmoore Sisters continue to intrigue in their latest quest. Dobbs' writing is clean, well paced, and a quick read. My only complaint about this book is that it seemed short and a bit shallower than the others. It felt like a quick and easy solution. I like a few more twists and turns. That said, I highly enjoy anything by this author.

The latest installment in the Blackmore Sisters saga. I don't know if it is because I read this title separate from the others but it seemed a little light in story. All the usual characters are there but they just seem to be a little lacking in "spark," if you'll pardon the pun. Probably if I had read it right after book 7 I wold have liked it more.

Ghostly Interference.

Thanks to Celestes ability to see ghosts, they just might have a chance of finding the relic they were after. But things never go as planned. There are more surprises han any of the crew know what to do with. This I such a wonderful series that I hope there will be more books in it to read.

This was so repetitious. I was ready to kick Celeste myself if she mentioned one more time how her only defence was a karate kick. She whined the entire book, and took stupid chances. This book reminded me of a Scooby Doo cartoon from the 1970’s. The writing is hokey and juvenile. This series is better for young adults (tweens).

I've read quite a few Oak Island books, so this was extra fun for me (though Leighann Dobbs has changed the island name). Pirate ghosts and villains of the expected and unexpected variety are included in this Blackmoore Sisters Mystery, and I loved it!

Treasure Hunt!

Yeah! The search is on. The clues are being gathered. And this time we have a cute little boy who needs help. We also have ghost pirates! And of-course Dr Bly's bad guys. It is a wild time deep in the caverns of a mysterious island. Great book.

I came across Leighann Dobbs when looking for more of the magic and mystery books. This is a great series. I love the way they were able to work through the problems and still found love. I didn't like that none of them got married, they just dated for years then it ended.
