The four companions continue forging a path through the Beastlands, battling both the jungle and its inhabitants as they make their way toward the Enclave and a final confrontation with Jacob and his followers.
As the bond between Alee and Trace grows stronger, the last whispers of doubt Rayn had about him are left miles behind. In her heart, she knows he would lay down his life to protect any one of them, but she needs to make sure that that never happens.
With a renewed sense of purpose, and Luk standing by her side, as he always has, Rayn promises herself that they will all make it back to Graceland and the future that awaits them there.
But first, the embattled city of Birmingham blocks their way.

If I'm not writing...which is almost never, I love hiking and movies.
Best Place to Read and Write: The Park
Favorite Movie: Avatar (When I saw that movie the first time, it lit something inside me and I came home and started seriously writing for the first time.)
I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway in exchange for an honest review. I haven't read the first three of the series, and wasn't that lost in the story. Sure, a couple of times the author was referring to something that happened before, but it's no different that any other story in any other book when the event occurred before the story in the book. So, wasn't that lost... until the very last chapter, like an epilogue, well yeah, there, I was lost because it referred to a lot of characters that I didn't know. But overall, I really enjoyed the story. This dystopian novel is an adventure-packed journey!
Out of the Ashes of the Old World, rises the hope of Humanity. Rayn, Luk, Alee, and Trace have reached the last leg of their Journey to the Atlanta Enclave. They have endured hunters, rippers, deadly flora and fauna, a psychotic gang of red bandana wearing thugs hell-bent on catching them and getting Rayn and Alee back to continue their deranged cult. They have used their training, as well as gotten creative and inventive to maintain survival in the world where humans are no longer the top of the food chain, and even the most beautiful plants cannot be trusted. Rayn, as the unofficial leader, leads the group through jungles, war-torn desolation, cities burned to no more than rubble, and across intense and terrifying stretches of sparse highways in search of shelter, and on their way to Atlanta they come across enemies and allies alike. BD Messick has left the best for last with Enclave, as this book is the best of all four in the series. Your emotions will take a roller coaster ride, your heart will thump out of your chest, and this series will crawl into your soul. I am hoping we will see our fiercely loyal group of friends one day again in the future. I feel that their story is only just beginning...
When you've invested a lot of time reading a series, it's always sad when it comes to an end, and you're always slightly nervous that things won't be wrapped up nicely. I like the characters I've come to know and love to give me some sort of closure. There's nothing more satisfying than a happy ending. This last book in a wonderful series has been perfect. I couldn't think of way I'd rather things have turned out.
Now, as with most books, there are a few spelling and grammar errors, but honestly these are few and far between, and frankly if this book had been written in Klingon it would still have been worth it. I enjoyed every second and am only disappointed that it's over.
The thing I most adore in this series - this book in particular - is the way these people from a dystopian future America look at things from our era. They are completely baffled by the concept of an Aquarium or Amusement Park. Utterly dumbfounded by the scale of a sports stadium, and oblivious to the idea of Fast Food. It really does change how you look at things sometimes.
There were some sad moments, and some scary moments. Plenty of romance, and peril - but much like Rayn, I have to say that I've enjoyed the journey.
If you haven't read any of these books before, please start at the beginning. They're really worth it.
I'm looking forward to all the future books by B.D. Messick.
Haven't read any of the other books in the series but was able to jump into the story and follow the main characters on their final journey, facing dangerous people, beasts, and plants. An easy read considering the dystopian setting.
