Abraham: Living the Life of Faith

Rate this book
How can we truly live a life of faith? Over 4,000 years ago, God called a man named Abraham to begin a wonderful journey of faith with him. Abraham was a pagan who worshiped idols; however, he left his home, family, and security to follow God. God called Abraham to be a centerpiece in his plan to redeem all people (Gen 12:1–3). All nations would be blessed through him, as he was the father of Israel—God’s priests—and an ancestor of Jesus—the one who gave his life to save the world (John 3:16).

Because of Abraham’s great faith, he is called the father of all who believe (Gal 3:7). Though each person’s faith journey is unique, we all encounter similar trials and tribulations, joys and victories, as Abraham did. And like him, we are called to be lights in a dark world that denies God. As we study Abraham, we learn how to faithfully live our life of faith. We cover topics like following God’s call, passing God’s test, conquering habitual sins, responding to conflict, experiencing God’s power, and much more. Let’s study Abraham’s life together with the Bible Teacher’s Guide:

“Expositional, theological, and candidly practical! I highly recommend The Bible Teacher’s Guide for anyone seeking to better understand or teach God’s Word.”

A Solid Bible Study That Will Challenge You and Help You Grow

I’m grateful when I come across a Pastor or Bible study teacher who is sound in their theology because it’s rooted and grounded in the Bible. Pastor and teacher Gregory Brown is one of those men. He studies to show himself as a workman approved and accurately handles the Word of Truth.

That’s why, I was eager to read Pastor Gregory Brown’s newest Bible Teacher’s Guide, Abraham: Living the Life of Faith. I’ve been privileged to study the book of Genesis in-depth several times under solid Bible teachers. Even though I’m familiar with Abraham’s story, Pastor Brown shares some sound interpretation of the passages and brings some new insights in this man of God who is foundational to both the Jewish and Christian faiths. He does this through the sound exposition of the Scripture.

Not only does he examine Abraham’s life and his faith, both his victories and failures, but Pastor Brown helps the reader to ask some challenging questions and apply what they are learning to their own lives.

You may wonder, what you can learn from a man who lived over 4,000 years ago. Is his life relevant to you today in a much different day and age? I can answer that with a resounding yes. Abraham, who was called by God and is known as a friend of God, is a Patriarch whom we can learn much from.

Do you ever wonder if God still calls people today? As a Christian how well do you respond to trials? Do you know any believers who seem to be falling away from their faith or are friends of this world? Do you ever do battle with fear, doubt and discouragement? Ever find yourself struggling with a sin, time and time again? Can you have victory over that sin? What promises in the Bible belong just to the people whom God spoke to and which ones can you as a Christian know with confidence belong to you too? These are just some of the areas Pastor Brown delves in to.

If you want a quick one minute Bible reading for each day with a clever quote, this book may not be for you. But if you want to better understand the Bible and who God is as He has revealed Himself in the perfect and inerrant Word of God, Abraham: Living the Life of Faith may be just what you are looking for. If you want someone who will deal with you straight, someone who preaches the Word in season and out of season, someone who will reprove, rebuke and exhort you with patience and instruction, then I encourage you to read Pastor Gregory Brown’s newest Bible Teacher’s Guide – Abraham: Living the Life of Faith. This book would be good for a group study and also for the individual.

I would like to thank Pastor Gregory Brown for the opportunity to read Abraham: Living the Life of Faith. I was under no obligation to give a favorable review.

With Abraham: Living the Life of Faith, Gregory Brown has written an excellent Bible study guide. Using the lives of Abraham and Sarah, he takes us through several aspects of their walk with God, including: trials, strengthening faith, encouragement, strengthening family, how to experience God's power, becoming a friend of God and how to find a Godly mate. With each topic that Brown covers, he includes a Big Question to consider, along with Interpretation Questions and Application Questions. The Appendix includes Group Study Tips and Reflection Questions.

It's obvious that this is not the first Bible study that Brown has authored. And this one is overflowing with true gems of wisdom and practical application. Both from the Bible and from Brown's own life.

I received a copy of Abraham: Living the Life of Faith in exchange for a review.

As always, author Gregory Brown uses his knowledge of the Bible and thorough research to create an environment that cultivates Christ-like attitudes based on God's Word. This book touched my heart. I found it is full of advice I can apply to my every day life.

The story of Abraham is inspiring yet cautionary, and Brown uses both aspects to draw upon the rich wealth of knowledge the Bible imparts to us about this faith-filled man. I think many of us can relate to the struggles of Abraham's life. Through the study of God's Word, alongside this helpful guide, we will find a plethora of wisdom that will shape, challenge, and bless our lives as we strive to be more like Jesus Christ.

I was provided a copy of this book in the case that I wanted to review it. All opinions are my own.

Another 5 stars for this Bible Teacher's Guide. It is the third book by Gregory Brown I've read and I'm still surprised how much deep truth he finds and reveals in biblical narratives and passages of the Bible I thought I really knew and had understood. It seems there's no end studying Scripture. We'll never be able to say: Now I'm done, I got it all.
Living the life of faith is not always easy, but it's worth the effort. Abraham's life wasn't perfect, but even through his failures we can learn a lot.
Although this book is incredibly well researched it is still easy to read and very practicable for study groups. The questions go deep and are quite often challenging.
This book - as are all of this series - is a book for those who want to dig deeper and look objectively at their own life of faith.

Greg's work is timely and much needed, given the vicious and unrelenting attacks on faith and the family. If you are looking to boost your faith walk or need encouragement for the journey, this book is a must-read! It is not for the faint of heart; there's a lot to cover, as the author goes in depth to explain and explore all the important points.

The questions at the end of each chapter provide a focused guide for individual or group study.
I suggest you have a notepad or book and your Bible handy to take notes and look up references.
There is a lot to gain from this book, and Greg Brown has done us a wonderful service in providing this valuable resource.
