Charlie Chaos is forced to spend the entire summer at his Grandparents house in County Kerry, Ireland. Cut off from his friends Charlie soon realises that the old house where his mother spent her childhood is more than it seems. A mysterious grandfather clock becomes an obsession for Charlie until it pulls him away from his home and into Timbukthree, a world of magic and mayhem.
The world on the other side of the grandfather clock is Timbukthree. It is explored by Charlie Chaos, a crossdressing teenager who is fated to save that world. It's a familiar tale, but one which wears well.
This version would have done well with a bit more editing and proofreading. The formatting was poor - some sort of punctuation marking scene shifts within chapters would have been welcome. For a story which starts with a crossdressing boy raised by two mothers there are remarkably few females within the world of the quest, and they are shown as less trustworthy than even the 'problematic' team member.
The writing is uneven. The point of view inconsistent. The world is thrown at the reader very quickly. I look forward to the next book in the series, not only to see how the story grows but also how the author does.
First off, let me say that this is a great story! The characters are very likable and they fit together well. That being said, I would have given the book more stars but the punctuation and grammatical errors are TERRIBLE!! It really detracts from the book because I had to backtrack so many times.
