5 Stars for this Once Upon a Time TV Series fanfic, Colstead & Remma. This is an AU or Alternate Universe fanfic. This story uses the characters from the TV show, but puts them in another setting. There is no magic or evil queens.

This is a fun story. It brought back fond memories. I was/am a huge Xena: Warrior Princess fan. When it started in 1995, the internet was just gearing up, but it also meant some of the websites sucked. X:WP’s Official message board was forever crashing. But it is was where I first “met” a number of Xena fans, female and male. I think because the page was always a problem, we found other ways to communicate with fellow fans such as Email lists and an AOL chat room. I especially enjoyed AOL chat. Every Sunday evening, we would meet in AOL chat room Lawless27 and chat for a couple of hours or more. A couple of the Xena Staff (Steven “Tildus” Sears, writer & producer, and Editor Robert “Avicus” Field) would usually join us. Ten of us local So. Californians from the AOL group met for lunch one day (unheard of in those days to meet strangers you met on the internet!). So began my involvement in the So. Cal. Xenafests. Not to be confused with the for profit Creation Xena Fan Conventions. Ours were completely non-profit and organized by fans. What started with 10 attendees, grew to over 100 (we limited the number). I was one of the lead organizers for most of the fests (by #6 I was burnt out!). We would have pizza and a chance for everyone too meet each other. Because we held it in LA, some Xena production staff and writers would also attend. A few Xena actors (not Lawless & O’Connor) would also surprise us. We only “paid” them in alcohol and food. Because the main focus was to meet fellow fans, none of the organizers or attendees would know who might drop by from the Xena crew. So we were always presently surprised! Robert Trebor, Alexandra Tidings, Claire Stansfield, Hudson Lieck, and Jacqueline Kim attended various times. But I am most proud of the amount of money we raised for charity. We had 6 Fests and one separate, special Charity dinner. We would auction off “Xena Stuff”, donated by fans and the Xena staff. From the auction and ticket sales, we raised over $34,000 ($15.5K from the dinner alone) for charity. But most importantly to me – my closest and bestest friends are still those that I met through this “little” show, 25 years ago!

This story is split into two parts. The PART 1 (or COLSTED) is the Fan Convention. Emma Swan is a huge fan of the TV Show, Crime and Punishment and “ships” Colstead – the two main characters, Annabella Colt and Samantha Halsted. Colt is played by new actress, Regina Mills and Halsted by Zelena Malvagio. Emma, scrimped and saved to attend the convention and paid extra for weekend Gold tickets to be able to take photos and “meet” the actors. She is especially looking forward to meeting the actress Zelena. She also is looking forward to meeting her fellow Colstead fans whom she has become close friends over the internet but never met in person. Her group of friends are crazy, funny, wild and come from all over the country and walks of life. The first evening of the Con, Emma wants to get a drink, but away from her drunk and loud friends, so she wanders into a quiet wine bar. There she meets the actress, Regina Mills with the same idea. They strike up a conversation and so begins a friendship and something more.

PART 2 – aka “REMMA” is the two of them navigating their new romance in secret. Very few people know that Regina is a lesbian, and because of her job and career, she needs to keep it that way. Their relationship grows closer, but as you can guess, keeping it a secret causes problems.

I loved this story. It bought back many good memories (although in my experience is nothing close to Emma’s!) and it is an excellent romance with a great cast of characters, both leads and supporting characters. Check it out.

After having read The Loudest Silence, Book Club Buddie D. and I decided to dive straight into another Olivia Janae, namely Colstead and Remma. This epic Swan Queen fan fiction was written in 2015 for a Big Bang event. This was my second time around reading it, but for D. it was all brand new.

Summary: Emma Swan is a huge fan of the newish cop drama Crime and Punishment, though even a bigger fan of the ship 'Colstead'. So much so that she has shelled out far too much money for this con. She can't wait to meet and talk to her crush, Zelena Malvaggio. But when she sees Zelena's TV partner alone in a wine bar one evening, her tastes begin to change. Con fluff and tomfoolery.

The story is basically devided in two parts. The first part is the C&P Convention in Anaheim, California where Emma and her group of Colstead shippers meet up. The author (who knows the Swan Queen fandom very well) did a fantastic job writing this hilarious con adventure and put in plenty of in-jokes. This is where Emma and Regina meet, and dispite the two women starting off in this fan-girl meets actress dynamic, Janea does a wonderful job changing it slowly into two women being attracted to each other. Regina has a hard time giving in to her feelings for Emma as she is newly into the closet because of the show and she could lose her job over this. Also, how much can she trust Emma? Is she attracted to her or the character she plays on tv. Part one is just a boatload of fun with Emma's crazy friends Red, Ella, Mulan and HeelsandArrows in the spotlight.

Part two has a totally different feel about it and could almost be a seperate book.
It starts when Emma goes back home and real life picks up again. She's taking classes at Uni during the day and works a grueling schedule at Leroy's Bar and Grill as a food runner and bar-back, only having Tuesdays off. Regina had slipped her her phone number at the end of the con and now Emma has to battle her nerves. Can they pick up where they left off? How will Regina react to her now they are back in the real world?

If you want to know what goes on at those crazy fan conventions I recommend you read this. Colstead and Remma is 247 pages full of hilarious, sweet and romantic fun. (you can find the story on AO3).

f/f romance/fluff
themes: convention, fan girling, shippers, work work work and no play, California, back in the closet, tv series, celebrity, sex scenes are not overtly explicit, I actually designed the cover for this one :-)

3 stars. The first half was really good. I loved the convention and the chemistry between Emma and Regina was great. Once that part of the story ended I found myself liking it less and less. It honestly felt like two different stories rolled into one. The first half was fun and the second half was unnecessarily drama filled and angsty. I also didn’t like the writing style here. It was really rough and felt juvenile. This is my first read from Janae and while it didn’t wow me it definitely had potential so I will for sure be reading more. I have a lot of her fanfics saved on my kindle that I can get to and I hope they’ll go much better for me than this one did.

I absolutely adore this story. I’ve read it so many times, and recently went back to it for the first time in years, and it holds up so well.
