This box set includes all six books in the Starbright series and is over 1,500 pages of romance, action, mythology, dystopian world and magic.
The people need Justice, but she's not listening.
One hundred years before, the Great Sickness reduced the world to three dystopian cities. Now the community of Asphodel is trapped underground, waiting for the prophesied maiden of Justice to rescue them. Sixteen-year-old Astrea is supposed to be this savior - too bad for them she isn't a believer. Astrea fights her fate until discovering a power she never knew she had, and a handsome ally she never expected. With her life in danger, Astrea must choose between saving her city or herself.
This thrilling young adult adventure is the first in the richly-imagined Starbright series, which is laced with mystery, mythology, romance, and magic. Justice Buried will have you questioning fate versus free will along with Astrea's strong female lead, and wondering who can be trusted when everyone is keeping secrets.
Hilary Thompson was born to parents who made a habit of taking roads less traveled. But she was also a first child, and an independent, willful child, so she has made a habit of taking a few roads on her own. After trying on hats made for artists, architects, restaurant and retail workers, landscape designers, legal secretaries, and professional students, she retreated back to her first loves of education and writing. Hilary now teaches high school full time, writes whenever and wherever she can, and reads as much as her eyes can handle. She also tries not to spoil her own independent, willful children or neglect her wonderful soul-mate of a husband too much. She tends to ignore laundry baskets and dirty dishes.
At first the description lends you to think there are to many themes or types of lit that none of them can be executed well. That thought is wrong. This series blends dystopia, sci-fi, YA, a dash of romance, and a bit if mythology in such a way that everything feels complete. There are places where you cry, times when you get angry, maybe one or two moments where the cliffhanger makes you stay up all night because you need to know what happens next. Starbright is a wonderfully well rounded series that is fun to read; and is a fantastic introduction to dystopian literature if you aren't familiar with the genre.
This trilogy creates an amazing universe/world; one you will rush home from work to reenter as you journey with these new friends. The pages open and draw you into nuance and detail - the echo of water running in the caves, the first glimpse of sunlight, the scent of wild forest on the breezes, the silent and spoken thoughts of your companions, the struggles, tension and excitement of expectation and discovery. The depth and reality that becomes your own. You don't read this story - you live it.

I was pleasantly surprised by this series, as I thought it was science fiction, but it's actually a mix of dystopian, mythology and magic based on the astrological signs of the main characters. We follow Astrea and Lexan, prophecised 'spring star' and 'autumn star' as they are (in their eyes to start with) forced together to help save their underground city of Asphodel.
However, as the day of the Choosing Ceremony approaches, Astrea's life is about to change forever, with a loss, as well as discovering something about the outside world that shows that life as she knew it- has been a lie.
It was a great series, following her journey, and watching the characters grow. There were moments when I thought I'd dislike the characters- being seventeen, Astrea acted very childish sometimes. I also wasn't keen on the fact one of her powers made other people brave, which meant that she had boys trying to kiss her all the time. Even though she's already been paired with Lexan.
There was lots of changing love interests but I'm happy that the characters ended up with the right person.
The final book changed to dual perspective which gave me Divergent vibes- I had a feeling one of the characters may die or leave- Astrea and Lexan were seperated in this one which explains the dual perspective. I actually preferred it as I really like Lexan's character and it was his novella that I enjoyed the most.
It's a really great story, and using the zodiac to describe peoples traits. I realised I'd be an awful Aries because I don't have a fiery temper.
I'd definitely recommend it, whether you decide to give the whole series a go or the first book it's a good premise. I found myself enjoying it the more that I read.
One of the most amazing apocalyptic stories I have read. .
The storytelling is spellbinding and I couldn't put it down. Buying it in the complete series is the way to read it for sure. I was so surprised and delighted to get all of the short stories that accompanied the series and strengthened the plot and characters so much. I loved the complexity of the plot and the depth of thought behind the plot. The characters became living people and their world was real. I found a new favorite author.
Amazing is all that can be said of this series. Loved each and every one of the books. Fantastic author and love fantasy stories, so what better to read than these books
I fell in love with this book from the very beginning. It was amazingly well written. I really enjoyed the astronomy theme and getting to read the story from both of the main characters point of view.
This series is one of the best I've read. If you like a strong female lead and an equally strong male lead this is a book for you. It tells the story in alternating chapters which is great. At first I wasn't sure about the alternating series but it worked great with this series. Don't let the YA fool you, this is a series for everyone from 15 up! Read it you won't be sorry! I'm not the best reviewer as I've only done several books so thanks for reading.
