INSPIRE EMPLOYEES, IGNITE POSITIVE CHANGE in the WORLD,
and IMPACT YOUR BOTTOM LINE.

Imagine what our world would be like if all employees of all businesses were given the permission to care about not just their job but also their fellow employees, their customers, and the cause they are most passionate about in life. What would it be like if all people got the chance to make positive changes in the world around them on a daily basis while they did their job? Or, to put that another way, what would happen if people were given the chance to bring their soul to work with them? That’s the journey Scott Moorehead and Ryan McCarty embarked on when they created a movement inside their company they called a “Culture of Good.” In their debut book, Moorehead, the CEO of a thriving telecommunications business, and McCarty, a pastor, speaker, and nonprofit founder, share how, despite their different backgrounds, they came together in pursuit of a common goal—to help their company find the “sweet spot” that connects employees, customers, and a cause. Moorehead and McCarty also share very personal stories about how their own backgrounds and histories shaped their journey and how their passion is to inspire every other company out there to seek out its soul by building a Culture of Good of its own.

“The premise was simple find something that you, your organization, and your customers can support, and use it to transform your culture. But the impact of such a simple idea can be profound, transcending just the culture of an organization and creating a movement. Scott Moorehead and Ryan McCarty are open and honest about the ups and downs of their mission, providing a checklist for anyone wanting to create a “culture of good” within his or her own organization or community.” —KEITH FERRAZZI, author of the no. 1 New York Times best-seller Who’s Got Your Back and Never Eat Alone

This book is full of gimmicks and superficial appearance. The authors both appear to operate under forced personas that would appear to care about people, but ultimately are focused on profit rather than people.

Their expressed methods on how they "build a culture of good" are based on shtick rather than meaningful efforts that would deliver the feeling of truly caring for people. This book appears to be based on optics rather than principle. The specific methods they used to incorporate some semblance of "caring" are insulting.

I couldn't even finish this book. The attempts to sound (& be cool) when the authors just come across as a couple of cellphone plan-pushing douche bags left me feeling like I needed to take a shower. Their methods were hollow, tacky, and left a bad taste in my mouth just like the fortune cookies they used to spread their myopic views of what it truly means to have a soul.

A short read describing how these two men took an existing company and created a holistic culture where the focus was doing good for the communities they had retail stores in. Some good anecdotes and advice for those trying to start a cultural movement inside a large organization. The advice is pretty generic though. Communicate why you are doing things, listen to what your employees want to support, get them involved instead of just creating a donation fund.

I firmly believe in the premise and what these two are trying to accomplish, and applaud them for sharing their story in such an open and honest way. While not chock full of actionable advice, it is inspirational to hear their journey, and good to see companies attempting to make work matter.

This is a book all CEOs and people in any leadership position in any sized company or business needs to read. It is for profit or non-profit organizations, large or small, private or public. The real meaning behind the Culture of Good is that what gives meaning to work and life is not what you do for yourself or your company but what you do for others, the community they are a part of. This is what defines a culture of an organization. The book examines the relationship within such a culture between the business, their employees, and their customers. The key being not what they do but why. A shout out to the Verizon store in our area that gave away these books to customers. An interesting read.

Good book to get you started (light the spark!) related to creating a good workplace culture. The questions at the end of each chapter also spark good internal debate. Now to take action!

Overall this book was inspiring and thought provoking. I especially appreciated the questions at the end of each chapter. It did lack some depth and practicality and is certainly not a one-stop-shop for how to create a culture change in your business. But I walked away intrigued and with a handful of key ideas to put into practice.
