Tempted by Midnight Once, they lived in secret alongside mankind. Now, emerged from the shadows, the Breed faces enemies on both sides—human and vampire alike. No one knows that better than Lazaro Archer, one of the eldest, most powerful of his kind. His beloved Breedmate and family massacred by a madman twenty years ago, Lazaro refuses to open his heart again. Sworn to his duty as the leader of the Order’s command center in Italy, the last thing the hardened warrior wants is to be tasked with the rescue and safekeeping of an innocent woman in need of his protection. But when a covert mission takes a deadly wrong turn, Lazaro finds himself in the unlikely role of hero with a familiar, intriguing beauty he should not desire, but cannot resist. Melena Walsh has never forgotten the dashing Breed male who saved her life as a child. But the chivalrous hero of her past is in hard contrast to the embittered, dangerous man on whom her safety now depends. And with an unwanted—yet undeniable—desire igniting between them, Melena fears that Lazaro’s protection may come at the price of her heart…. Stroke of Midnight Born to a noble Breed lineage steeped in exotic ritual and familial duty, vampire warrior Jehan walked away from the luxurious trappings of his upbringing in Morocco to join the Order’s command center in Rome. But when a generations-old obligation calls Jehan home, the reluctant desert prince finds himself thrust into an unwanted handfasting with Seraphina, an unwilling beauty who’s as determined as he is to resist the antiquated pact between their families. Yet as intent as they are to prove their incompatibility, neither can deny the attraction that ignites between them. And as Jehan and Seraphina fight to resist the calling of their blood, a deadly enemy seeks to end their uneasy truce before it even begins…. Midnight Untamed The mission was supposed to be simple. Infiltrate an enemy’s stronghold outside Rome and eliminate its leader. For a Breed warrior as lethal as Ettore Selvaggio, AKA “Savage”, stealth assassinations are only one of his many cold-hearted specialties. But the last thing Savage expects to find behind enemy lines—in his target’s bed—is a woman he once adored. It’s been years since Savage last saw beautiful Arabella Genova. Years he’s strived to banish to his past, along with the fierce desire he once felt toward Bella . . . and the irresistible calling of her blood that stirs in him even now, despite the fact that she belongs to another male. But when fate throws Savage and Bella together again in a race for their lives, will his long-lost love prove to be the one woman he can’t live without, or the perfect weapon to destroy him?

I have always loved this author's Midnight Breed novels. These are the sexiest, most alpha, badass vampires I've read. But, it seems as soon as the women come along, the Breedmates as they are called, each of the vampires of the Order have their lives turned upside down. They all know, each sense, when a Breedmate is present and the attraction is severe when it comes to the ones meant to be together. And, it's difficult to remain a macho, alpha vampire when the need and desire begin ruling the males who fight evil rogues to keep the world safe. This bundle takes us to the Order's base in Rome and walks us through the lives of 3 of these Breed males as they encounter their Breedmates and fight the hunger inside of themselves, only wishing to keep these extraordinary women safe.
The first one, Tempted by Midnight, has us following Lazaro, Italy's Order commander, as he saves the life of a beautiful Breedmate, Melena, whose life he saved as a child...a child who has never forgotten the then untouchable Breed male who finds herself now saved more than once from certain death. The attraction between the two of them is magnetic as they fight it in order to figure out who killed the one person who meant the most to her, almost catching her in the crossfire.
The second one, Stroke of Midnight, is about the royal duties of Breed male Jehan, who walked away from his legacy years ago to become a member of the Order and join the fight against those who would kill not only the humans but destroy any trust the Breed has been developing with humanity. Called home to answer an old familial obligation, he meets Sera, a Breedmate who heats his blood, amongst other things, from the moment he meets her. This unlikely couple finds themselves embroiled in a conspiracy neither realized until they were thrown together, discovering more to each other than they originally thought.
The third, Midnight Untamed, is probably my favorite. It centers around Ettore Selvaggio (Savage), who is in the middle of a mission and discovers the one woman he never thought he'd see again, Breedmate, Bella. But, can he save her before he completes his task, or will she be sacrificed along with the evil male who is at the head of the drug ring supplying the drug that is turning Breed males rogue?
Every time Ms Adrian writes another Midnight Breed book, I fall in love all over again. Each of these alpha males is broken by his past, and it takes the love of a Breedmate to heal them and many times, not only them but the women who enter their lives. Her stories are full of danger and adventure, romance and steam, and I love every single one. This was was not an exception. I look forward to reading more of her books.
I was thrilled to discover this bundle of three novellas from a favorite series that I haven't had the chance to read yet.
First up is #12.5 in the series, 'Tempted by Midnight'. This was Lazaro's story. He's been a side character for several books now. My heart ached for him when he lost his breedmate and family except his grandson in one of evil Dragos' raids. Now, its twenty years later and he's still holding to his loss and afraid to let anyone close to him. Lazaro runs the Order headquarters in Rome and it is through his work there that he encounters Melena after an explosion breaks off a private peace conference. I wanted to shake Lazaro for resisting what he really wanted for so long, but his attitude was understandable. If only, he hadn't been yanking Melena around while he figured it out. Great twist at the end.
Second is #13.5, 'Stroke of Midnight' We stay in Rome for this second story with Lazaro's second in command, Jehan getting the summons to go home and fulfill a family obligation. He figures to walk away from the arranged mating until he claps eyes on Seraphina and her compassionate life. Seraphina thinks she has Jehan all pegged until he rocks her world with his generous nature and his appeal. But, they both have vital work in two different places. This was a quick, fast tale, but had a sensual and exciting plot that I enjoyed.
Third is #14.5, 'Midnight Untamed' And, yes, still in Rome. I'm sensing a pattern here. This time it is Savage's story. Oh, and it is a second chance romance when he discovers his long ago lover in a tight situation with a dirty drug dealer working with Opus Nostrum to sell a drug that turns breed vampires into rogues. Bella never knew why Savage left her and now, she can't let him rescue her or bad things will happen to her family who are held hostage to keep her working for her evil master. Loved the romance and the action, and I love the little romance developing on the sidelines for Bella's sister in law.
So, three novellas from the Breed Vamps of Rome. They were all exciting and I enjoyed the couples' stories which were unique. These are probably not a good idea for someone new to the series because they don't really introduce the Breed world, but assume the reader already is familiar. However, fans of the series will probably love these side story adventures between the larger novel releases. This is a solid PNR series and I definitely recommend it to lovers of the genre.
I love the "Midnight Breed" series. Lara captures the bold, dark essence of each of the breeds. I can always count on fantastic plots, incredible supporting characters and hot, steamy sex.
I truly enjoy this author's books in this series, BUT....l also really prefer the full-length books, so that the characters are fully fleshed out as are the plots. These novellas are simply too short to do justice to the subject. l want more of her full-length books in this series!
This was a good bundle of 3 books from the Midnight Breed books. These books are of some of the side characters getting their story told. Further, the books are quick reads but still advance the entire series.
