The Knowing #3

The Reckoning

Rate this book
Ordinary people. A demon from hell. The final showdown.
In the summer of 1985, Daniel Burke, Becca Hawkins and Jack Carpenter confronted a demon prince, an efreet, and somehow drove it back to hell. They were twelve years old. Twenty-six years later, the efreet returns and sends superhuman assassins to kill the now-adult “Three Muskateers” before they can challenge him again. Reconnecting for the first time in a quarter of a century, the childhood friends piece together fragmentary memories of that long-ago summer as they fight desperately to stay alive—and to stop the voracious quest for power of the man possessed by the efreet, Chapman Whitworth,

Now comes the final confrontation. The only thing that stands between Whitworth and the presidency of the United States is a rag-tag group of ordinary people--Daniel, Becca, Jack and their friends. This time, they have to go after the demon, not the man—and it doesn’t matter that none of them remembers how they defeated it the first time. They have to find the monster--hidden in a labyrinth of dark caves protected by legions of poisonous spiders and snakes. And they have to stand together against it. If any one of them breaks, they all will die. It has come down to this—one last chance. It’s time for the reckoning.

The Knowing began the tale. The Deceiving continued it. Now, The Reckoning brings the story to a heart-pounding conclusion with a riveting account of the final battle against an evil as old as the skeleton of the universe. If you like fast-paced action, gut-tying suspense and themes that will challenge everything you believe about yourself, about life and reality, about good and evil and the whole nature of the universe—The Reckoning is the book for you.

Ninie Hammon

I was born in Socorro, New Mexico, sometime shortly after the earth cooled off. It’s clear that from the outset my parents never intended for me to amount to anything. How could I? With a name like “Ninie?” Please.

Fame and fortune do not come to people named Ninie Bovell (My maiden name.) Gabriella Bovary? You could work with that. Even something as pedestrian as Madeline Bovell or Rebecca Bovell or (though you’d lose points here for lack of originality) Elizabeth Bovell. But Ninie? I never had a chance.

If I sound a mite hostile, bear in mind that in one decisive stroke my parents sentenced their precious newborn daughter to a lifetime of explanations that began my first day at Muleshoe Elementary School. (Yeah, Muleshoe. The hits just keep on coming.) After a painful week, I had a rap down that I still use today:

“No, it’s not Ninnie like skinny and penny. It’s Ninie—rhymes with tiny and shiny. 9e…get it? And no, it doesn’t mean anything, it isn’t short for anything, long for anything, or a substitute for anything. It just is. (Pause here for the inevitable ‘Why?’) You got me, pal, I couldn’t tell you.”

I grew up in Texas, got a BA in English and theatre from Texas Tech University and snagged a job as a newspaper reporter. Didn't know a thing about journalism, but my editor said if I could write he could teach me the rest of it and if I couldn't write the rest of it didn't matter. I hung in there for a 25-year career as a journalist. I wouldn’t have missed it for the world, but as soon as I figured out that making up the facts was a whole lot more fun than reporting them, I never looked back.

Now, I write suspense--every flavor except pistachio: psychological suspense, inspirational suspense, suspense thrillers, paranormal suspense, suspense mysteries.

In every book I write I try to keep this promise to Loyal Reader: I will tell you a story in a distinctive voice you'll always recognize, about people as ordinary as you are--people who have been slammed by something they didn’t sign on for, and now they must fight for their lives. Then smack in the middle of their everyday worlds, those people encounter the unexplainable--and it's always the game-changer."

Hated for it to end.....

Chapman Wentworth is the person calling the shots in this book. The series finale is great. Chapman must have been the one who found all the ancient items his father stole when he was digging for artifacts so long ago. Jack, Daniel, Jeff, Becca, Andie and Theresa, along with Crock are the fighters for mankind. None of them asked to be a party to good versus evil, but they were handpicked by God to do the job. The efreet is controlling Chapman, probably because he summoned it.

Chapman uses pawns to do his dirty work as he schemes to open the gates of he'll to unleash five more just like him. This small band of goodness will have to undergo torture to see who wins. But not all of them will make it out alive. Can they survive? Will good win this time or is it time for evil to control things??

You must read to find out. Read on my friends

This is one of the neatest books I've ever read. Ninie does so well at bringing these characters to life that we would swear we know them. They're our friends and family, and each one is complex with their own little quirks and eccentricities.

This is book three in the trilogy and is the showdown between our friends and the demon monster that has been terrorizing them. This story doesn't back down from the tough themes and it does have religious overtones in it, written as conversations one of the characters has with God.

Well, I don't blame her, really, for having a bit of a bone to pick with God. She's lost her husband to a monster and now she's been tasked with helping to erase that demon's nasty works. It's a crazy ride from start to finish and I loved it!

Wonder reminders of another book where we KNOW what happens in the end!

I have enjoyed the three books in the KNOWING trilogy. For Christians they are very much like Frank Peretti's numerous works starting with This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness, the quote from Ephesians 6: 12 that sums up both the works of Frank Peretti's and this trilogy by Ninie Hammond. I look forward to reading more of her books to see how the differ. I really can't say enough great things about this trilogy!

Perfect Ending!! 👌

The Reckoning is the third and last book in The Knowing Trilogy. Their last attempt to get Chapman Whitworth to withdrawal from the Supreme Court backfired and now Whitworth is running for president. Jack, Daniel, and Becca must go after the efreet and send him back to hell once and for all.
The final book in this series does not disappoint. This whole series is five stars!

I wish I could give this trilogy more than 5 stars! This is an amazing trilogy of food vs evil. Ninie Hammon has built the characters so well you feel like they are actually your friends. I highly recommend reading all three of these books. I promise you will not be disappointed.

Perfect Ending for The Knowing Trilogy

Ninie Hammon is a great storyteller. Her characters come to life in a way that makes them seem real. It was easy to visualize what was happening even as I sat shaking my head in disbelief at how bad the bad guys really were. The Reckoning was the perfect ending for The Knowing trilogy.

Fantastic

Perhaps a little over descriptive when talking about the demons but otherwise a masterly story. Just sorry the story had to end. Really really enjoyed the complete trilogy, well done and thanks Ninie.

Different and thought provoking

A different take on faith and beliefs, interesting and scary. Characters you can believe are real. Not one is perfect therefore believable. Good windup of the three books.

Excellent

I’ve enjoyed each of the 3 books in The Knowing series. This last one brings everything back full circle. Each one has kept me glued to the pages. I’d recommend them all!

We wrestle not against flesh and blood

The Knowing is a great trilogy! Reminiscent of Frank Peretti's style but with a down-home feel. Keep telling the truth, Ninnie!

Love the story but please leave out all the animal killings. I noticed she kills animals in another series so although a great writer with good ideas I will no longer be reading her books.

Good

Love the characters and especially the older ladie's accent. I've heard that all my life.
Don't know about the whole demon thing but I guess it makes a good story.

Knowing

What would it be if we had the knowing? A monumental series of the supernatural, faith, courage and perseverance. Ninie Hammond has put the topping on the cake in this final book in the trilogy.
Now that I have read all three with months in between publications, it is probably a good time to restart the series and read them back to back. I encourage everyone to get this series, read them, consider the possibilities regarding this moment in our history, and seek the 'knowing'.

They overcame pure evil

If God gave you the chance to face down a demon of pure evil, would you hide in fear or go forth in battle. They chose to face a demon of pure evil down and they won.

You know a book has to be good if it’s the 3rd of a series. What I can say about this book is that you MUST read the prior books if you want to understand it. The main characters have come a long way on this journey. It was a fast and furious read. There were a LOT of VERY disturbing moments in the book…but I guess there had to be. I found myself cringing often...on the verge of feeling ill over the actions of the demons. I did not find one single typo or misspelling in the book. 

I hated for it to end.

If you have never bought a book from Ninie, you just don't know what you are missing. This trilogy has kept me on the edge of my seat from page 1, of book 1. Ninie draws you in, and she won't let you go.
ALL of her books are an absolute MUST READ. Please don't let this pass you by.

OMG!

What an amazing series. I started at book one and went straight through book two and book three. I read a lot of books. I don't believe I have ever read a series with so much detail in descriptions. The characters, the scenery, what the characters are dealing with, the good, and the evil are all like a video when I read the pages. The characters are very well developed and believable. I feel as if I know them personally and I fear what they are facing. The dialogue between the characters, and their thoughts are engaging and easy to follow. The editing is clean with few to no spelling or grammatical errors. There are no profanities or inappropriate sexual scenes. But these books keep your interest and excitement level through the roof. Because of the level of supernatural and vile (scary) characters, I recommend this series to older teens through adulthood.

This book is definitely Halloween reading material. These books would make fantastic movies. Now I am on to book four.

I loved being with the characters Daniel, Jack, Becca,Theresa, Andi and even Crock now that The Knowing trilogy has ended and I’m so sorry to see them go. Ninie Hammon has written The Deceiving, the last book in the series, in such a way that I felt every emotion....sadness, fright, happiness and downright revulsion to the point that I almost lost my lunch. That’s what you call “getting into a book” and that’s what Ninie Hammon’s books do to me. Thank you, Ninie!

Fantastic end to this trilogy

Intricate weaving together of the two previous books and the action packed nail biting drama make this book a fitting end to the trilogy. It did not disappoint. Kuddos Ninie!

Wow...I have read ALL of Ninie Hamon's books, each one so different and great in it's own way. They are amazing, how her mind works is unbelievable. The knowing trilogy will pull you in and not let go. Reading these 3 books with time in between them takes some of the wind out of it as you have to reacquaint yourself with the story. However, with all the evil packed into this trilogy, that might be a good thing, you do need to be able to sleep. I think if I had to pick a favorite of the 3 it was the 2 no book, the Deceiving. It was where the story really came together for me.

INCREDIBLE! An Amazing Climax to the Series

I have been a fan of Ninie Hammon's writing since I the first work that I read of hers, "The Last Safe Place". She always, ALWAYS, does such an amazing job of getting into her characters' heads that you feel as if you've known them forever, whether " good guys" or "bad guys".

That said, in " The Knowing Trilogy", it's no different. Actually, by the time you get to book three, "The Reckoning", it's even more so. Perhaps because of my age, or belief system, or maybe I just liked her, but as the story unfolded I found myself identifying most with Teresa Washington, a woman of faith who has been through a lot of hardship without losing her faith in God. She and the little girl, Andi, are the glue that hold the whole rag tag bunch together in this final battle.

If you've read the first two books, of course, you'll read this one. You can't NOT read it! If you haven't read the first two, buy them, or get them on Kindle Unlimited and read them now, then read this one. It's well worth your time .

9e does it again. What a fitting end to this remarkable trilogy. Again, she has taken us on a magic carpet ride resulting in a nail biting finale. If you haven't read this author, I would highly recommend.
