Find out why girls are raving about Lola!

An exhilarating and heartfelt story of adventure and intrigue, The Adventures of Lola proves you don’t have to stick to the status quo to save the day. Written with wit and gripping insight into what it takes for young individuals to stand up for what is right, The Adventures of Lola is dazzling in its magic and excitement.

To thirteen-year-old Lola, the world is not a very magical place. She often gets in trouble, whether it’s with her parents, who find her rich imagination a bit tiresome, or at school, where the teachers see her as being far too dramatic. But Lola knows she is meant to do more in life, like maybe save the day…someday.

But when Lola and her friends realise that something disastrous is about to strike their town, they gather their strengths and are determined to solve the mystery. Their sleuthing soon brings them all the way to the King, who is less than pleased with Lola’s fearless hunt for the truth.

As Lola struggles to remain in the good graces of the people in her life, she starts to realize just how unique she truly is…and just how magical her life might actually be.

I received a copy of The Adventures of Lola for review consideration. This has in no way influenced my opinion of this book.

Lola is a fairy, thirteen years old. She frequently gets herself in trouble, loves to vary the colour of her hair, wants to be an adventuress and resides in the Blue Mountains of Australia. Written in the first person, this girl has an attitude! She does not like school or the teachers. Whilst outside the headmaster’s office one day Lola overhears a partial conversation. Is there the smell of adventure in the air? Can she convince her best friends Jet and Allie?

After doing some research, she finds that no records can be found for 1985. The entire history of 1985 has been wiped from all record. why can she find no information on events that happened in 1985? Throughout Lola’s journey she learns about Mindreading, Protective shields, Manipulating time, Affecting the weather, Glimmering, Affecting electronic currents and energy fields.

Although, there were missing speech marks and poor grammar in some places, I did enjoy reading about Lola’s adventures toward protecting her home, but I was a little unimpressed. Lola was a bit one-dimensional for me. I did like how she was smart and brave though.

Overall, The story was imaginative, fun, and magical all rolled up in one book. The illustrations are fantastic. However, I feel that I would have enjoyed it much more when I was younger.

I worked on this book with Jade Harley, providing the illustration and branding, so while I cannot review it myself without any bias ;) I am more than happy to report that my eleven year old son sat and read it in one sitting, turning pages with great enthusiasm, and rated the book highly. Coming from my son, who is an avid reader and has devoured nearly every book in our local library, Lola gets a definite thumbs up. I will wrestle a review out of him and post here asap.

I absolutely loved this book. I read it in one sitting, it was so good I couldn't put it down. All the characters are great and I think they were very appropriate for the story. My favourite character has to be Lola as she is so witty and relatable. She is brave, kind, strong (emotionally and physically) and just generally amazing. My least favourite character is definitely the King of the Mountain Fairies because he was very mean, he wouldn't listen or open his mind to anyone else, and in his eyes he was right and everyone else was wrong even if they weren't . I also really liked the Queen of the Water Fairies because she was more than happy to take Lola under her wing and teach her everything she needed to know. I think she contributed to the story a lot.

I loved how at one point it switched from 1st person to 3rd person. This tells the reader what is happening (outside of the main character's knowledge) which I think is very good. When the book was written in first person, it really felt like Lola was having a conversation with me, which made me like her even more and I felt like she was a friend of mine. I felt more involved in the story because of the way it was written and made me feel.

I would rate this book a five star read, I loved it so much I just couldn't give it any less. I would definitely recommend it and I won't hesitate to read more from this author.

'The Adventures of Lola' is a fantasy novel by Jade Harley. I loved the main character, a fairy named Lola, and I think children/teens aged in the 7-13 year age group would really enjoy this story. I won this book through Goodreads Giveaways.

I received a copy of this book in a Goodreads giveaway.

Hey everyone, the main character in this book is named LOLA. You can't miss it, because every time it's mentioned, it's in ALL CAPS. Beyond that, the grammar is atrocious and the whole thing is so poorly written it put me in mind of those Facebook posts you stop reading and scroll past after the first few sentences because it's physically painful to try to read it. I forced myself through half of it before I gave up, but I just couldn't continue to punish myself. The story wasn't worth it.

The Adventures of Lola is a fairy tale but not the type Disney produces. It is nowhere near that, but this is not a bad thing. And just like most of the stories meant to entertain not only children but also the children at heart, this novel also introduced three important kids: one boy and two girls, including Lola. Harry Potterish right?

The story revolves around a thirteen-year-old fairy named Lola, who is hyperactive and loves adventures (or problems, I don't know), and her strong desire to ~save~ the day. The other two young fairies named Jet and Allie are Lola's two best friends. Jet, who, according to the book, is a super cool and super nerdy kid and doesn't say much but is a very deep being. Lola's other best friend, Allie, is good at designing and making clothes not only for herself but also for her friends. She is also quite emotional but that is because she cares about her dreams and friends so much. The trio went on a perilous adventure that has led them into discovering who they are always meant to become.

Alright, time for compliments! The first thing I immediately liked about this book is *clears throat* the cover! The moment I opened my mail and saw the book, my heart melted and like stopped for a second because the cover art is so pretty and really colorful. In addition to that, the texture of the cover is like carpet-y and somewhat matte. I might sound really weird but I truly enjoyed touching it a couple of times before, while and after reading the book. No shame! I think this will definitely make the parents or children buy this book especially if they are notorious for judging a book by its cover. Hehe. Craig Phillips, you did a great job here. I like it so much!

Moving on, the second thing I like about this book is that even though Lola is at the age of pubescence, she did not engage in a very short-lived romance with anybody-- unlike most of the fairy tales out there. Sigh. THIS BOOK IS RARE, MY DUDE. Romance can be very good too but only if written properly though. (Shout-out to the fans of Sarah J. Maas' Throne of Glass: You know exactly what I'm talking about. Aye!) I love how Lola is focused on her mission to save her fairy world and not about getting a boyfriend.

The last thing I adored about this book is how fast-paced it is! So much had happened in a book that's only 140 pages long and I think that is really impressive. I've read some stand-alone books that are over 400 pages long but there are a lot of questions left unanswered and there are so many missing parts. The Adventures of Lola is not like that. It is really simple and the contents are really fit to be read by children even without the supervision of an adult. They will enjoy this book a lot especially if they're into fairies and magical stuff.

Enough for the praises for now because there are some things I quite didn't like about this book and these are the lack of character development and the weak dialogue between the characters.

The characters' dialogues need to improve because that's how the reader can get to know them. Lola is annoying at times, bratty even. She disappointed everyone around her for the sake of something that's not even evidence-based and sometimes it feels like she only cares about herself. The King is annoying too. He did something really rude to Lola's friend, Allie and he is prone to overreacting. He is a shallow king and he didn't terrify me a bit. Another thing that made me cringe a little bit is that it felt like the characters get what they want sooo easily.

For example, they have a problem now and on the next paragraph or page, it is already solved. It can be a good thing though but if you're a reader who wants a more detailed story, you'd feel as though this book lacks some.

Overall, The Adventures of Lola is a fun read. I'm not a child anymore but I, sure as hell, enjoyed reading this one. There may be some problem areas in this book but it is not that noticeable (at least for me) and I think children will really love this one.

Note: I would like to thank the author, Jade Harley, for sending me a signed paperback copy of her novel. This did not affect my review in any way.

The first thing one notices about this book is the really colourful cover. It’s both enticing and inviting and very appropriate for the story contained within.

This is a good little story with lots of fun, frivolity, and adventures as the title suggests. It showcases how one person (in this case a fairy) can make a significant difference in the world and bring about change (a theme that is just as important now as it has ever been). The story moves quickly and I’m sure would keep the interest of young children. The descriptions are vibrant and effective without being overdone and unnecessarily wordy which tends to spoil a story. The story also shows how fear can trap people stopping themselves and others from exploring and how this in turn prevents growth and development. Some people may think this is a didactic style of writing but I must disagree - this is first and foremost a children’s story designed to be fun and colourful which it achieves successfully.

However, the news isn’t all good unfortunately. When reading the book I noticed a few grammar issues which should be addressed, especially as it is likely to be read by young children who are still learning English. On page 8 there is a comment about Lola sharing some news with her ‘bestest’ friends. The term ‘bestest’ is not correct and should be replaced with ‘best of’ instead. I also noticed that the possessive ‘s’ was often omitted and at other times it was included so I ask myself if the ones that were omitted was accidental and got missed in the editing process. In spite of this I still enjoyed the story, the characters, the scenery, and the ending.

A really nice satisfying read.

The Adventures of Lola features strong and likeable characters, an interesting story line, and beautifully done illustrations periodically throughout the story.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has children between ages 6-12 I believe that everyone will find someone that they will connect with in this book.

I read this book to my 7 yr old daughter after having it recommended by a friend, my 10 yr old son just happened to listen in and he has now read it also...
It has many twists along the way and is written in a way that is current for the older kids yet still has an innocence for the younger children also. (i found it charming also)
It is a story of a young girl finding her way in the world while many forces are against her, with the help of her friends she stands tall and makes the difference she feels is her destiny.
Lovely book and is perfectly set up for further adventures with Lola and her friends.

I was given a copy of The Adventures of Lola in exchange for my honest review during Jade Harley's tour.

For Jade's first novel, it wasn't at all bad, I read with my 10-year-old daughter and she enjoyed it just as much as I did.

"A fun read." ~ Jayne aged 10

We went to our local model village at the weekend and one of the questions she had to answer was how many fairy houses can you see?  She loved it as it reminded her of Lola.

This review is actually from my 8 year old daughter, who devoured the book… “I liked the book because it has a good story. Lola is the best fairy in my opinion. She sees when something isn’t right and works with her friends to figure out how to fix it. Is there any more books about Lola that I can read? I really like that she can change her hair color, sort of like you do mom, but without the smelly stuff.” Since she enjoyed this book, I thought I would read it myself and I can’t agree more. This is definitely a good story that can be read by young or old. I love books that teach a lesson, but the child reading the book doesn’t realize a lesson is taught.
Great job and we will have to keep our eyes out for another adventure.

What is it with me and these blue haired characters? Karou, Coraline, Oddly and now Lola.

I saw a sponsored ad on Facebook offering a free copy of The Adventures of Lola. The beautiful cover turned my head and I couldn't refuse. This book is perfect for readers of around Lola's age of thirteen but you know what at 28 I also adored it. This really is a book for all ages.

The Adventures of Lola is vidid, vibrant and enchanting. Lola herself is fearless and fierce and exactly the kind of heroine we need more of.

There are some stunning illustrations sprinkled through this book and they were exactly how I pictured the characters from the descriptions I'd read.

I throughly enjoyed this debut book from Jade and I am looking forward to what she delivers next.

This is my review of The Adventures of Lola.
It’s a great book about a fairy named Lola. She is very curious about fairy life. She learns that something bad happened in the year 1985 to fairies. She and her two best friends try to learn what it was, and after they do , they try to stop it.
After being rejected and not believed, Lola herself goes to find help, and once she gets help, returns to try and stop it from happening again.
What is this mysterious event? You have to read the book to find out.

The Adventures of LOLA is a fun, fast-paced novel by a first-time Australian writer, Jade Harley.
Harley has has shown that she's clearly made the right decision to leave the media/advertising world for writing, as she has a wonderful imagination that she expresses incredibly well -- all while packing positive messages of empowerment for young girls into the pages of LOLA.
Let's hope it's the start of a great series - I will certainly be letting my friends know about this particular adventure.

The review of adventures of Lola in note form.
• This is a simple middle-grade fantasy
• It is a quick read for anyone who reads YA or is a bit older.
• The front cover of this book is extremely beautiful same with pictures in the book.
• It has a simple plot which makes it a great read for younger kids.
• Anyone who is a bit older like 13+ will finds this book very predictable. So, I would only read this get idea of what stories middle graders read.
• I personally think it is a creative book to read at a babysitting or just to even calm down when you’re going to bed.
• I would give this book 4.5/5 stars.
• I would recommend it to any younger reader trying to get into reading

An enjoyable story of the powers of fairies and what can happen when you hide things, big things from children. The story always gets out. I enjoyed her take on their interactions with humans but i found that the characters did not grow in depth and some of the plot lines were a little too predictable or forced at times. Yet well written with a lot of action none the less.

I bought this book for my two cousins but when it arrived it looked amazing, so I read it myself!! This is definitely a crossover book for children and adults, similar to the Harry Potter series. Parents will love reading it to their children and will really appreciate the light-hearted humour dotted throughout. This is however a children’s book and I have no doubt they will be immersed in the page-turning mystery and incredibly rich characters. I LOVED this young, strong and driven heroine who is passionate about nature and her friendships. The illustrations are fantastic. You really feel as if you are reading through her eyes and it brings the story to life. I'm going to buy two more for my cousins and keep this myself for another read. Will there be another book of Lola's adventures???!! Please say yes!

LOLA is anything but ordinary. She's an extraordinary young teen who loves adventure. Yet, she's more than that... She's a fairy.

When a mystery of epic proportions falls into her lap she absolutely must grab her two besties and solve it.

Although this story is for the younger generation I enjoyed it immensely. There's action, drama, intrigue and unconditional love. I love how the author wrote each character, especially LOLA who's as sassy as they come.

I can't wait to recommend this to those young at heart and all kids including my 11 year old nephew.

Lola is a 13-year-old fairy with a great imagination. So great, in fact, that it often gets her into trouble. So, when a new teacher, Mr. Holt, appears at Lola's school, and she hears whispers about something terrible that will happen soon - something that has apparently happened before - Lola recruits her two best friends, Allie and Jet, to join in the investigation. Because Lola knows it's something bad. And Lola also knows that she's destined to save her world.

But when no one will believe what she and her friends discover, Lola knows that she has to take drastic action. As she does, Lola will learn a lot about herself and her world. But, will Lola be able to use her new knowledge to save her friends and family from the upcoming danger?

This was a fun story. Lola is a rambunctious character who has a big heart. The fairy world that is described is really well-developed. Though the writing is somewhat simplistic, I think it would suit a younger middle-grades reader really well. The mystery of what happened in the past, and why Lola's community is the way it is, is handled really well - as is the mystery surrounding the new teacher and why he is even there.

Though the antagonists of the story are pretty stereotypical, and the dialogue discussing said antagonists were also fairly predictable (it reminded me a lot of the dialogue from 80s cartoons), it still works for the story. After reading this story, I found myself hoping that I would have a silver aura and perhaps discover some tricks of my own.

What do have when you’ve got a thirteen-year-old who’s world is quite ordinary, and who’s boyish type of behavior is quite problematical? While the parents are concerned about their child’s truly exasperating creativity, the teachers look at the behavior as being unduly melodramatic. You’ve got a child, who’s a actually a young fairy named Lola.

I found, “The Adventures of Lola” by Jade Harley, is the first book of what is now a two-book series [with hopefully more adventures of Lola and her friends on the way], to be a thrilling sincere story about Lola and her friends escapades laden with a fair amount of intrigue.

When Lola and her friend’s inquisitive nature brings about their realization of an impending, devastating event for their town, they don’t palm off doing something about it; their fortitudes and sheet determination causes them to become sleuths to unravel what’s happening and bring it to someone much older.

While they might seem pleased with their efforts, others, like the king in this case, are rather annoyed by them.

I loved the subliminal message being told by the author within the lines of her story for her young readers; a message which deals not standing idly by when something is happening, but instead taking action when you believe it would be the right thing to do.

For having given her young readers this empowering story, I’ve given Ms. Harley the 5 STARS she’s gotten.

I received a copy of this book in a giveaway.

I was initially drawn to this book because it looked like a fun read and the cover really caught my eye.

This was a nice quick read and we get to go along with Lola on her adventure with her friends, Jet and Allie. I liked that the main character was a strong female. I loved that Harley wrote Lola for young readers to see.

I did have some issues with the book. There were several grammatical errors which should have been corrected when being edited. There were so many randomly emphasized words that it got to be a bit out of hand, and some of the words that were being used I wasn't sure would even be in that age group's vocabulary. Finally, while I enjoyed the story, I didn't feel like there was any surprises in the story but rather it kind of followed a straight line, so to speak, and we knew what was going to happen next.

Overall this was a nice story that was enjoyable with a strong female lead.

This review is from my daughter Bella...

"This is my first book review. I read The Adventures of Lola last year when I was 9.

It is about a 13 year old fairy girl who couldn’t find any information about the year 1985. She starts asking questions, then finds out a secret. When no one believes her she runs away and has a magical adventure.

After the first few chapters I couldn’t put the book down. It was exciting and action packed. I liked the pictures because most chapter books don’t have any.

I rate this book 4 out of 5. "

I really enjoyed this book. Lola is a sassy fairy with tom-boy tendencies and I just love her spunkyness. The book has a fun and exciting plot line that is really enjoyable. I found myself lost in the land of fairies and I never wanted to leave. I have one complaint that Lola' s name was always in all caps every time. why??

Adorable

This story was good. It was quick and easy to follow along. The characters were fleshed out enough so that they weren't completely two dimensional but this was more of a plot driven story anyway.

This was a nice little middle grade read and I think kids would highly enjoy it.
