Madeline, with a little assistance, discovers her old adversary is gaining a following in Rockland! Can she expose him for the fraud she's sure he is?

Rockland:1901
In book two of the Meddlin’ Madeline series, Madeline Brown has a new endeavor to occupy her time. But is it to keep her out of the way or a reward for her work in Sweet on You? With the help of her young friends, Madeline discovers her old adversary is gaining a following in Rockland! What’s a girl to do?

However, her new position also gives her opportunities to observe, and what she sees sets more than one new investigation in motion. What does her old suitor, Delbert Jackson, know? Why is Mr. Merton giving important papers to that scoundrel, Vernon Smythe, and whatever happened to poor Abigail Cooper?

Add to these intriguing questions Henry Hardwick’s continued attentions, Edith’s newfound devotion to the temperance movement and Madeline’s determination to find her a more reliable suitor, and strange behavior from her Aunt Louisa and things heat up as summer fades from Rockland.

Unfortunately, her dear friend, Russell, busy with an important project at work, finds himself unable to help keep her out of trouble and away from danger. Is Madeline going too far? Will her meddling get her in serious trouble this time, will it destroy her reputation irreparably, or will she rid Rockland of a scoundrel once and for all?

**fingers skittle across the keyboard. Stop. Eyelids blink over the top**

Oh, was this bio day? Oops! I forgot. I was lost in my latest manuscript. Umm... bio. Yeah.

Hi! I’m Chautona Havig. (for those who care, that’s Shuh-TONE-uh HAVE-ig). Yeah. Just work with me here. I should have used a pseudonym, but when you grow up with a name like Chautona, it kind of sticks.

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near. ~ Hebrews 10: 23–25

Those aren’t just words on a page for me–they’re why I write. I write to encourage my brothers and sisters in Christ. The stories I create are to make people laugh, cry, question, consider.

They’re for you.

When the world screams for hope, I try to point you to the true Source of hope–Jesus.

Sometimes life in the church no longer seems a refuge from the pain of a self-serving world around us, but through my stories, I try to point you to the only Refuge that can truly help–the Father’s Everlasting Arms.

And sometimes we just need an escape from the monotony, the emptiness we see around us. We need joy, laughter–what I like to call “just the write escape.”

Christian fiction without apology or pretense–lived, not preached.
What does that even mean?
It means I care–about you. About your walk with Jesus. I care about the words you put before your eyes, the mental pictures those words conjure. It’s difficult to express just how much I love my brothers and sisters in Christ. It’s difficult to share just how much I love you.

But I do.

And I write for you. I sit in my little house in California’s Mojave Desert and I write to show you why one sister believes one thing, why a brother believes another. I write to show you how some Christians handle trials or triumphs–for you. So when you’re faced with something–good or bad, it doesn’t matter–maybe it’ll spark a memory. Maybe that memory will smolder until you pull out your Bible and see what the Lord said about it–about His great love for you. For YOU!

And maybe, just maybe, you’ll share that love with another hurting, confused, or blessed-with-more-than-she-knows-what-to-do-with soul.

I just happen to think that’s the most blessed giving anyone could hope to receive.

I picked up this book on a free promotion and fell head-over-heels for this series. Even though I enjoyed book one, I honestly wasn’t sure I wanted to read on, but this book convinced me. :D

Madeline is all my favorite aspects of Anne Shirley and Emma Woodhouse combined. (And I’ve compared Russell to Knightley, but I still hold by it, though he is more fun-loving and godly. And we got a little more of a glimpse into his spiritual struggles, which was neat.) Throughout this series, it’s been especially interesting to watch Madeline grow both in her detective skills and in her spiritual walk. In this one, it was very cool to see her realize why things she considered fanatical were very important to others. (Though that scene near the end was rather sad. :( )

The banter, the mystery (surprisingly connected to the last one!), and Madeline’s originality were delightful. And they actually made photography sound interesting too.

Just a note, because this mystery was connected to the first one, there were some pretty scandalous implications. Other content included an “off-screen” suicide, explosions, and a scene of drunkenness.

Best quote: “You cannot satisfy everyone’s expectations for you, but where you can, show those you love that you don’t disregard their consideration.”

[Madeline to Russell] “Your mother requested me for dinner.” “I wouldn’t go. Even Mother presumes too much if she expects you to sacrifice yourself for some strange culinary whim.”

Altogether, this was a great read, and you better believe, I read the rest of the series soon after. ;)

I am glad that I got to read book one before this one, as I think it would have made a confusing stand-alone. As part of a series, though, it tied in well and just continued the story that was begun in book one.

It wasn't a particular favorite of mine and I think I discovered why: I was reading it expecting a mystery book, but the mystery was a little too padded in everyday life and social happenings for my tastes. At times, I felt like the mystery was perhaps too cryptic. I enjoyed it more after the halfway point, as that was when it felt the mystery activity truly appeared (and I realized that's kind of how I felt for book one as well).

At the same time, someone who just enjoys a laid-back tale following the various lives of characters would greatly enjoy this book. I think it's the type of book I would enjoy on a rainy day, having no pressure of a deadline by which to read it.

I do really like Madeline. I am a little puzzled with her Christian life because she has so many things mixed up, but she is closer to having them in order in this book than the first. I guess her spiritual walk isn't super prominent, even though it's there. That is one reason I'd like to continue the series: to see what the author does with her.

I did find that Russel seemed to change personalities. I liked him a little better in book one...but then, that too fit his own journey as he was swamped with work in book two.

All in all, Havig's style is unique and a voice I'm not sure I've read elsewhere. I've enjoyed finally reading a couple of her books.

I did find this one quote amazingly amusing:

"Oh, dear me. I’ve become quite the matchmaking romantic. I believe a healthy dose of murder and intrigue will be necessary to set me to rights."

In Meddlin’ Madeline book two Such a Tease, Madeline Brown is up to her old tricks again, so too, it would seem, is her rival Vernon Smythe. Madeline is appalled to learn that everyone has seemingly forgiven Smythe despite the fact that she proved him to be a dishonest cad in the last book. He is now gathering supporters for an electrical project that he claims will help everyone in town. But why would a man like Vernon try to help other people? Madeline determines that he must have some ulterior motive for this electrical project and sets out to figure out just what he is up to, and perhaps prove Vernon to be a fraud once and for all.

Madeline’s life is complicated and secrets abound in this cozy mystery. And the stakes get higher and higher, when a body is found in a lake and houses begin exploding. I found this book to be considerably more interesting than the first book was, and the mystery certainly kept me guessing. The historical content was fascinating and on a whole I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I look forward to the next books in this series.

Such A Tease by Chautona Havig is a Christian historical mystery. It is the second book in the Meddlin' Madeline series but can be read as a stand-alone.
I very much enjoyed Such A Tease. It was an amusing read as the main character attempted to turn amateur sleuth. Very much reminiscent of Agatha Christie's Miss Marple, Chautona Havig's Madeline investigated crimes with an air of innocence. Her light heartedness, whilst being a deep thinker and problem solver was endearing. Madeline was a very modern woman for her time. She was independent and refused to be confined to a woman's role of the time.
I loved the way Chautona Havig included what characters were thinking. It enabled the reader to really get to know them all.
There were the themes of friendships and protection in the story. Looking out for another's welfare was always part of Madeline's agenda.
There was also the theme of trust. "Trust is as much a choice as it is earned." In a novel with an air of mystery, whom to trust will always be key.
The novel explores how greed and the love of money will lead to a characters downfall. There is nothing wrong with having money if it is put to good use.
Taking care of widows and orphans is another theme in the novel.
Knowing God as our Father is a key theme. God is not some distant father waiting to judge us but a loving Father who longs for us to draw near to Him.
I loved the way Chautona Havig referenced other novels within the story, especially as she referenced two of my favourites - Little Women and Pride And Prejudice. It both engaged me as a reader and forged a bond between author and reader.
Such A Tease was a compulsive and amusing, light hearted crime novel with a lovable heroine. I really enjoyed it and cannot wait to read more of the exploits of meddlin' Madeline.
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.

It has been a long time since I read Book 1, so it took me some time to get to know the characters again. (I guess I shouldn’t wait so long before I read the next book.)
I liked Madeline and Russel. It was a fun setting and not your typical story. The mystery felt confusing. And part of it never felt fully explained. There were some things here and there, and then suddenly it was over and I was left wondering what exactly had happened and how it was all solved. The rest was easier and I understood it.
The christianity wasn’t very strong in the story, perhaps because Madeline doesn’t have a very strong relationship with the Lord. I’m hoping she grows in the next books.

I found this book to be thoroughly engaging and even more entertaining than the first book in the series (which I really enjoyed.) I had a very hard time putting this book down and was up late several nights in a row reading it.

My favorite thing about this book was how accurate it was regarding the time period. I was able to completely lose myself in this era with these characters with no glaring historical errors jolting me back to the present. I loved how so many of the characters from the first book grew in character and complexity in this one.

I did have a few believability issues with how some of the characters acted, particularly with regards to so many people trusting Mr. Smythe despite all that ensued in the first book, but I have believability issues with real life people trusting those who've proven themselves untrustworthy as well so there you go.

My only other complaint is the epilogue. I found it was far too long, and rather than simply wrapping things up, it introduced a new situation with a lot of complexity and then gave it a quick resolution that I found entirely unsatisfactory. I think that, even though it feels resolved, this situation must come up more in the next book so I assume the author was using it as a bridge to the next installment, but if I had it to do again and knew what I know now, I'd wait to read the epilogue until book 3 comes out because I'm the kind of reader who wants things all wrapped up and happy at the end of a book. But if you like having the proverbial pot stirred to whet your appetite for the next book, you might love the epilogue.

All in all, I'm really enjoying what the author is doing with the characters in this series. I love watching Madeline grow, complete with lots of starts and stops, successes and failures. I can't wait for the next book in this series!

I received a complimentary ARC from the author.

Madeline is now stretching her wings in book two of the Meddlin’ Madeline series. She has taken a job as a bank teller, a job some feel, as a woman, she has no business doing. Others are thankful it will keep her out of trouble. Well, they just don’t know Madeline very well!

Such A Tease picks up not long after Sweet on You. Even though you could read it without reading the first book, I feel you will get more out of book two if you read book one first. In Sweet on You, the cast of characters and the investigative skills of Madeline appear.

I love Madeline; she’s spunky, sassy, outspoken and virtually fearless. She sees something unusual or disconcerting, and she “teases” it like a dog with a bone, until she figures it out. She also has a deep abiding faith, surprising herself sometimes with how much she believes.

Chautona Havig has a keen imagination and a wicked sense of humor spilling into her stories, making them a delight to read. Her attention to detail and obvious research into the era she’s writing about lend a richness to her books that makes you eager for the next installment.

I received this book from Celebrate Lit. However, I was under no obligation to write a review.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Madeline is one of my favorite characters! She is tenacious, spunky and just plain fun. She has a really good heart, but boy do I love reading about some of the thoughts that she has. Just imagine if they came out from time to time! That would make for some interesting interactions with those around her.

Ms. Havig brought a new side to Madeline in this story that I don't remember seeing too much of in the first book - this almost flirtatious side. It really added depth to her character and gave her more appeal when reading. And it by no means took away from her investigating abilities. In addition to have a wonderful lead character, Ms. Havig provides a storyline that is delightful and fun. I enjoy seeing Madeline and company get to the bottom of what is going on - in their own way. Although it is historic in setting I think it is very easy for modern women to connect with Madeline's character. She has a lot of zip in her, something I don't think was found very often in that time period.

I cannot wait to see what lies ahead for Madeline. Perhaps she'll even listen to what I've been saying for the last two books about whom I think she should give her heart to. I'll let you make your own assumptions.....

“Such A Tease,” is an amazing sequel to Havig’s first Meddlin’ Madeline book, “Sweet On You.” Though Madeline is determined not to make the same mistakes, she still has a lot to learn. When she tries to be more considerate of the people in her life that care for her, she still can’t seem to kick her meddlin’ habit of investigating crime, and I’m glad.
One of the many things I loved about this book was the way Madeline has learned to show others grace and mercy, for the most part. While in the last book she was right about most people’s attitudes and actions, she came off as judgmental. In this book, she tries to give everyone the benefit of the doubt.
Vernon Smythe is back as Rockland’s local villain, or is he? Even Madeline isn’t sure. And if you’re hoping to get some more Russell and Madeline time in, you won’t be disappointed. Or will you?
I know I’m taking this book’s title a little too literally, but hey, it’s fun to tease.
If you love a good mystery, this book’s playful style and impressive wit are sure to win your admiration. I can’t wait for the next installment of Meddlin’ Madeline. This is yet another winner in a long line of amazing books by author Chautona Havig.

I was given a copy of this book in case I wanted to review it. All opinions expressed are solely mine.

Meddlin’ Madeline: Such a Tease is Book 2 in Chautona Havig’s Meddlin’ Madeline series. Based in 1901 Rockland, Madeline Brown wants to expose her adversary for fraud, but how can she do this? With the help of some of her young friends, Madeline is bound and determined to do this. Her new position has presented more opportunities than Madeline could have dreamed of. This position allows her the chance to observe and there is not one but many investigations being set in motion.

Madeline is so busy trying to find suitors for ladies, to figuring out what important papers are being given to someone, to exposing people for fraud, that she is bound to get her self into trouble and quite possibly danger. What’s going to happen?

I have really enjoyed reading the Meddlin’ Madeline series and can’t wait for the next book! This is a great series that I’m sure you will enjoy!!

Another delightful romp through Rockford 1901! The ever-tenacious Madeline is up to her meddling ways but this adventure takes on new twists and turns as she tries to protect friends and avoid disgracing her beloved father-the-mayor, all while coming to terms with herself as a young woman the men are finding increasingly desirable.

One of my favorite quotes: “This, of course, called into question whether her inquisitiveness and desire to help others was appropriate or not.”

A definite five stars! Well done, Chautona Havig; you’ve created another enchanting tale featuring our new favorite modern heroine, Madeline Brown! I look forward to more of these fabulous and so well-written tales!

Here is the anticipated second book of this series! I'm so glad to get to read it. I even picked up a quote I liked up front! "Madeline, for all her meddling, is a humdinger of a girl." I can't agree more with this character, or the author in this case.

Madeline's life has changed some, she now has to work. It's a little less has to, but is working, much to her dear old fashioned Aunt's chagrin. Now there are new issues. Best read in order, yet it can stand along, this book just makes this series even stronger! It's not a weak second book by any stretch of the imagination.

While working at the bank, Madeline notices things. Things that don't "add up" at all, and the more she notices, the bigger the mystery there is to solve. History/Time period very well included, this book is both perfect for it's time frame, and way ahead of it's time too. The humor is my favorite kind, funny, punny, and simply the best tease of all, waiting for the next book in the series!

My copy came from Celebrate Lit. My thoughts and opinions are my own. I leave this review of my own volition.

I love how the cover captures Madeline's character. This is the second book in the series and I suggest you read Meddlin Madeline Sweet on You first, as the characters carry over and this fills in where book one leaves some issues not tied up. I can't wait for book three to tie it all together. I love how Madeline has grown and developed and some of her antics crack me up. The author has a way with humor, time period accuracy, and leaves you wanting more. This is an enjoyable read that leaves you with a good feelings afterwards.

What an appropriate title for this book! It was a tease from beginning to end. Madeline can't sit still. She loved to help others and often puts herself in danger.
What was she thinking when she spent the night in the bank??

Madeline appears to others as confident and strong. But she often hides from others her vulnerability and fears. She turns to her friend, Russell, for advice. But she knows that GOD is there listening to her prayers.

We need to remember that there are people in our lives that are not as strong as they appear. Everyone has a vulnerable side and needs a shoulder to lean on once in awhile.

Madeline's Aunt tries to be a matchmaker. Madeline shows no interest. I do wanted her to connect with......won't name names.....lol. But no!! Ms. Havig is SUCH A TEASE!!!

This is one reader waiting for the next chapter of Meddlin' Madeline!!

Good book but not as detective-like

While there was some investigation, most of it had to do with Madeline’s new job than it had to do with the running storyline. The end though is well done and rounds out the story rather well. I disagree with some of the others that it was a cliffhanger, although, I read the books when four were already completed. Overall a lovely, if a bit dark, addition to the books. Clean with just a hint of romance to leave one impatient

Wonderful witt!

I love how Chautona can keep me in suspense while making me laugh and roll my eyes all in the same book. Several times I busted out laughing, only to hear my hubby ask, "What's so funny?" If you love clean stories with witt and suspense , you can't go wrong with Such a Tease. Loved it!

It was great to revisit Rockland in 1901 and see what Madeline was up to after the end of Sweet on You. I love how somewhat modern she is for her time, although she doesn't seem to think there is anything unusual about her desire to work. I appreciate how the author dealt with how other people reacted to Madeline's job, I found it very realistic of what people would have thought in 1901.

I really did like the characters in this book, especially Madeline and Russell. It was interesting to see Edith trying to move on after having her heart broken at the end of the first book. I also enjoyed Mr. Brown, I found him to be everything that a father ought to be and I loved how he appreciate Madeline's modern ideas. I enjoyed seeing the relationship between Madeline and her Aunt Louise and just how different they are from each other and how that sometimes causes problems.

The mystery in this book was interesting, but it did not seem to draw me in as much as the first book's plot did. I also felt like it dragged a little bit in some places, but I like how Madeline's gift for sleuthing is being developed and I can't wait to see what crime she has to solve in the next book.

Another thing that was hard to follow at times was the change in the points of view. But I also enjoyed how we got see the points of view of both the "good guys" and the "bad guy", I felt like it added more depth to the characters throughout the novel.

Overall, I did like this book, but not as much as the first book. Therefore I am giving it 3.5/5 Stars because the plot was hard to follow at times, but I did enjoy the historical setting and revisiting these characters and I can't wait to find out what happens to Meddlin' Madeline next!

Madeline has been one of my most favorite fictional detectives since her debut in Sweet on You. Since then, I’ve eagerly waited for part two, so I was thrilled when it finally became available! Yay for authors who work hard to please their readers!

This book hit all the perfect notes—a good mystery without too much gore, an intriguing plot, a little romance (although Madeline will never be interested, she’s sure), a situation that would make even the less curious of us want to figure out what was going on, and delightful side characters. I read it in just a couple sittings, and in between savored the story. It was fast-paced near the end, but that, too, was enjoyable.

In all, I loved getting to see Madeline in a new situation, horrifying her aunt at times, and overall enjoying those around her while she tried to solve the mystery. A very satisfying read.

I requested a review copy of this book, and this is my honest opinion of it.

Such a Tease by Chautona Havig is second in her Meddlin' Madeline series and it is a good one. Madeline is a working gal now, much to her most proper aunt's chagrin, and begins to see some problems with the same guy (Mr. Smythe) she tangled with in Sweet on You. Is he as a cheat in his business dealings like he was in his personal ones or is Madeline mistaken and misjudging him? The characters are likeable and real. Through the mystery we see Madeline struggling with relationships with the fellows--"if the fellows were just fellows instead of potential beaux" and her faith--she wondered if her prayers were too impertinent. The author does a great job with keeping the time period (early 1900s) accurate and uses subtle humor to keep the story line light and interesting. I chuckled throughout the book. In reference to Mr. Biggs..."I suppose he just got too Biggs for his britches" and referring to herself, Madeline wonders if she deserves tarring and feathering--with crow feathers, that is! The romantic tension with Russell, her best friend's brother, continues in this book as well and is left at a point where readers will hope there is another book in this series. As fun mystery that will keep you guessing to the end.

[ I voluntarily reviewed this book gifted to me from the author]

You cannot satisfy everyone’s expectations for you, but where you can, show those you love that you don’t disregard their consideration.”

Madeline is at it again! She's back from a season at the Lake and has become the first women teller at the bank, much to her Aunt Louisa's consternation. Well,Louisa, she's yet to embrace sufferance or temperance, so she still has a chance to find the "right" kind of fellow and give up all these notions!

She's gaining converts, even if she's flaunting conventions. Just shy of 20, she's got no steady beau, her friends think she's strange not to be looking for a sweetheart because that's what she's supposed to do. She's got reliable Russell and the young man Henry following her around. It seems that the first of her crowd,Flossie, and her fellow Warren are now engaged. Isn't it time for all of them?

Madeline is at the bank three days a week. And a certain customer keeps coming in and when she sees his passbook, something seems strange, so she begins to pay better attention. She and Russell are experimenting with these new brownie and folding cameras and if she gets it just right.....

And, why on earth would a lady of her stature have friends down at Dry Docks? She doesn't need to spy on anyone, that's why she was down there before. However, this new electrification of Rockford might have something to do with the shenanigans at the bank, so off she goes....meddlin' again

I really like how Chautona Havig is developing this character, and how meticulously she's keeping to a historical timeline, even if events can get in the way. Madeline's father, Mayor Albert Brown, and her Aunt Louisa are period accurate and are struggling with how fast things change. In some ways, so is Madeline as she grows up without the support of her mother. And the "loose ends" that lead to a third book are tempting all on their own. Highly recommended historical cozy mystery. 5 stars

This was a really fun book to read. I enjoyed seeing how Madeline worked out the details of Vernon's scheme for electrifying the town—was it a fraud, or wasn't it? How was the bank involved? And then there is Russell. He really wants her to receive something better than the first offer of marriage she was given—is Henry the one? Russell is only fulfilling his promise to his sister Amy to keep Madeline from being lonely while Amy was in Europe, or so Madeline believes. I loved all the different strands woven together in this book. I also love seeing the way Madeline is developing a deeper walk with God through this story.

This is such a fun ride. Madeline is a fun character. She is young and not sure what she should be doing in her life. She loves intrigue and is very observant of some things. Not so observant of men who have romantic ideas about her. This is 1901 and women still cannot do many things men can do but Madeline tries to get away with what she can. I like this in her. There is a bit of intrigue but this is more of a fun book. I received an ebook copy of this book from Celebratelit for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

"Such A Tease" by Chautona Havig is the second book in the ( Meddlin" Madeline Series).

Madeline uses her job as a bank teller to solve another mystery involving the scoundrel, Vernon Smythe.

This book has pretty much the same characters as the first book in the series.

I really liked this statement from the book "You cannot satisfy everyone's expectations for you, but where you can, show those you love that you don't disregard their consideration." .
I really like the end conservation between Russell and Madeline on prayer. It is one that tells us that we can talk to our Heavenly Father like we do our earthly father. I shorten the conversation it is a little more involved in the book.

There are two mysteries involved in this book . Who killed Abigail Cooper and would the town really be better off with everyone having electricity. Yes, this story is about the time when people had gas lights and etc.

This story describes the characters thoughts and actions and interactions between the characters really well.

I am eagerly awaiting to see if there are anymore books in this series. There is a romance developing and I want to see if it continues or if the two remain just friends.

I am giving "Such A Tease" by Chautona Havig three stars. I was given a complimentary copy. These opinions are my own.

Yes, I'm still a fan of this series. Madeline had adventures in the last book and this one is no different. Favorite characters are back and back at it. Since Madeline isn't a typical female of her time period, in fact, she is quite modern thinking, her actions reflect this. She investigates and is an amateur detective. This also means she gets into some extremely interesting situations. I like how Madeline grows as a character from the first book through this one. Trust is a key factor in this story and the overall theme of needing God was done quite well. I thought the author did a great job staying in 'her time period' and keeping your attention throughout. I cannot wait to see what she does next with these characters as I've now become quite a fan.
It was a 4/5 for me. The slight issues I had with it are much outweighed by love of characters. Thank you to the author for the review copy of this book (via Celebrate Lit). I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.

The second book in the series is even better than the first! (Which if you haven't read you should go get it and get started now!) You'll love Madeline and her unconventional ways of observing things mist people miss. Her likeability and independent ways tend to take her to the line of acceptable etiquette for a lady of the early 1900's, much to the chagrin if her oh-so-proper aunt.

There is more than one mystery to unravel and much to enjoy in "Such a Tease." Ms. Chautona Having does it again so it's five stars from me!

I really enjoy this author, and this book was no exception. Madeline is a likeable character and the plot keeps the reader interested. I do think this would be a difficult read if you were to read it as a stand alone.

Intrigue and Action

In "Such a Tease", the second book in the Meddlin Madeline series, we see Madeline, the main character, again finding herself in the middle of intrigue and activity. This theme she tries to save the city while working at Mr. Merton' bank. My only regret about this book is that I have to wait for the next installment.

What a pleasure it was to read Book Two of the Meddlin' Madeline series, Such a Tease! Madeline is a delightfully bold young lady, yet so loyal to herself, her friends, and her family. This book carried the same tone as the previous book, and was written in a style unique to this series. This was a continuation of the first book, with the same characters in attendance. I recommend reading Sweet On You First, then dive into this one! There are so many surprises in store when Madeline is near.

This book was very entertaining, and I recommend it for those who like cozy mysteries or historical fiction with a humorous twist.

I received a digital copy of this book from the author, through Celebrate Lit, for review purposes. The thoughts expressed here are my own.

Madeline, Madeline, how much I adore thee. You make stories fun and for the time setting are revolutionary in your thinking. I just want to be the mitten on your hand, helping you solve crimes. I love how much I am reminded of being carefree. Madeline also makes me think of Nancy Drew, with her nose seeking the truth and honesty will prevail. Now in this book, I found myself deep into the setting (love historical settings and periods). It is always a pleasure to travel back in time with Chautona’s work.

I found myself giggle at Madeline’s aunt. Oh my, is she the perfect image of that time period’s women. I felt like Madeline gave her grey hair and made the sleek look feel a bit ruffled. I just loved her thinking as well, and it provided some great comical moments.
