She pulled him out of darkness and isolation… all of which, had nothing to do with the fact that he was deaf. But once out, what if that is the very thing that will rip him from her?
Isolated for years, without a family, and a guardian who mocked how he sounded, Finn Alexander learned how to interact in a hearing world… while completely shunning the Deaf one. Finn solved his differences by hiding in a barn where he worked with animals all day, and very few people.
Until Brianna Starr.
There soon becomes Finn’s life before Brianna and after Brianna. She forces him out of the barn, out of the silence and quiet of his head… and into the world as she sees, hears and experiences it. She is known for being likeable and popular, the very antithesis of him, and yet, with Finn she can’t quite get her footing. Awkward, insulting, and accidentally off-putting towards him, she at least tries to communicate fully with him.
And honestly? No one has ever reacted to him quite like Brianna.
Moreover, it works, until the very things she is pushing him towards fills up his life and could so easily rip him away from her. Because as life long ago taught him, some barriers are permanent. Uncrossable. Unbreakable. No matter how hard one tries.
Raw. Real. Emotional Romance. Writing provocative and darker themed romance that always finds its happily ever after!
With 50 plus, full length books there is a story for everyone! Cowboy romance? Got it! Small town... yep. Big city rock star? Covered! You like a little suspense? Yep, got a few of those too.
Most of my books are standalone stories in connected series. Whether it's the setting, theme or family connections, my series are often multi-generational and span decades. While each book is a complete story, beloved characters will pop in and out of these sagas. I stick to new adult, contemporary and western romances, with tons of emotion and all the feels tucked into them.
I live in the rainy area of Western Washington, and spend as much time as I can traveling to destinations all across the state, where I do all things outdoors. Many of these locations become the settings for my books. I earned my business degree from Western Washington University, and worked for several years in the construction management field before turning to writing full time.
Okay, not really about anyone in the family but mostly enjoyable. I thought at first there wasn't going to be enough conflict to carry the story but after Finn met the other deaf people the story got more teeth. I believe it really is hard for these sorts of relationships to work out just as the author stated. But she sold it I believe. I did wonder why the heroine didn't take sign language classes pretty much from the get go. It would have made sense and really seemed like something that this go getter heroine would have done right off the bat.
I fell in love with Finn the minute he appeared in this heart warming, heart wrenching and wonderful story.
I can't imagine how it must be to be deaf and only hear silence and yet Leanne managed with her amazing words to transport me into Finn's silent world. I felt every second of his confusion and dilemma as to how he should react to Brianna.
She must have been like a whirlwind to him with her enthusiasm and bubbly personality.
How they developed their relationship and how the story unfolded is an incredible and moving read and as always Leanne Davis has written with such skill as to make this book unmissable .
I cannot recommend this story too highly. It is absolutely fantastic and one everyone should read.
Blurb: She pulled him out of darkness and isolation… all of which, had nothing to do with the fact that he was deaf. But once out, what if that is the very thing that will rip him from her?

As a huge fan of Leanne Davis’s Sister series, I was really looking forward to reading River’s Rescue - especially since this could have led me to a whole bunch more books that I might like! I haven’t read any of the other books in this series (and this one is book nine), but after reviewing the synopsis for the previous books, it didn’t look like reading them all would be necessary in order for me to enjoy this book. Which is what my experience was with the Sister series - I’ve read them all, but some of them I read out of order (depending on whether or not they were on sale and how much I had in Amazon gift card credits for taking online surveys...I fully confess to being a cheapskate). And it didn’t make any difference in my enjoyment of those books. In fact, I came away in awe of Ms. Davis’s ability to weave such complicated and compelling stories over so many books - yet each could still stand on their own.
That, however, was not the case here. I tried three different times to get into this book, and just couldn’t. Maybe this is a series where it’s important to have a previous connection with the characters, and you’ll only get that through reading about them in the other books, but at 40 percent, I don’t care about any of the characters, and the writing isn’t anything like I’ve come to expect from Leanne Davis. Furthermore, I wasn't compelled to read any of the other books in this series...
So I’m adding this to my virtual DNF pile. The writing was awkward, the dialog stilted, and I didn’t like the characters. This one isn’t for me. Which makes me sad because I consider myself a big fan of the author and was really looking forward to this book. Hopefully the next one will be more to my liking!
* thank you to NetGalley and Leanne Davis for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review
"Received an Advance Reader Copy in exchange for a fair review" 4.5 stars I adored this story and the main characters, Finn and Brianna. It’s intense and passionate in a rather sweet and somewhat circular way, and I found it endearing and never tedious. I must say I loved the heroine, she’s so young, smart and spontaneous. Her sincerity and generosity are refreshing, her confidence appealing. She’s a good example that appearances are often deceiving. I love our wounded hero too – lonely, isolated and tortured in a detached sort of way. His deafness is closely linked with the isolation and his personality. His struggles and story are really hard to read. What a damaged, broken hero... I’m curious about how the deaf culture will receive this story and Finn. Reading lips seems such a strenuous (impossible?) task. I didn’t mind suspending the disbelief about it (and other things) sometimes – Leanne Davis shows and tells what a difficult task it is. There’s lots of telling in this story, but I didn’t mind, I was completely immersed in it. I finished it totally aware that the romantic couple will have to face many, many obstacles in their future. I'm grateful to the author and NetGalley for providing a free copy
In 1968, my 27 yr old husband died of cancer, 11 days before my 25th birthday. His older sister, brother, their spouses and many of their friends were deaf. 50 years later this wonderful author, Leanne Davis, emotionally brought me to my knees. All these years later and I find I never really understrood what the world of a deaf person was like. How very isolated his family, (then my family) were in their quiet world. This very, very talented writer went right to the heart of our deaf hero and the warmth and love of the hearing woman who uses her heart to introduce him to life.
I received this book free with the intent that I write an honest review. But, I need to clarify this and let you know that I have read every book this inspiring and remarkable women has ever written. One good book after another, after another. Every books gets to the heart of the story making the reader want it to never end. Give yourself a wonderful treat. Read one of Ms. Davis' books. You won't stop until you have read them all.
An unexpected romance that is sweet, sexy and challenging. Brianna has a heart of gold but many think she is shallow. She meets Finn on her step-father’s ranch, what she doesn’t expect if that Finn is deaf. She sees something in Finn that draws her to him so she works to connect with him. Finn hasn’t had the support system needed to truly find his way in the world. He has learned to stay silent and works in solitary jobs but Brianna won’t take no for an answer so he suddenly finds himself doing things he’s never done before. There is beauty in this relationship and they both have to find a way to live in each other’s worlds – hearing and deaf. I enjoyed how these two connected and seeing how they helped each other learn more about themselves and what they truly wanted in their lives. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
A definite five-star book. When Brianna first met Finn she thought he was mentally challenged because he did not speak, he just stared at her mouth. He knew what she thought! He thought of himself as a ghost, a shadow, a recluse, finding it difficult to let people into his world. Brianna also had a difficult time letting people know the real Brianna. Finn could speak and read lips, however, he did not like to be around others, totally keeping to himself. The author did an excellent job of telling her audience all about the "deaf world", their problems and how they handled them. This book immediately grabbed my attention and I could not stop reading until the end. Brianna and Finn encounter many obstacles on the way to a HEA but as they discovered, with true love anything is possible. I think you should give Leanne Davis' River's Rescue a chance. You will not be disappointed.
This book was another wonderful edition to this series! Finn and Brianna had their work cut out for them as a couple. The look into the deaf world was eye opening. I enjoyed how Brianna learned all she could to communicate with him. I cannot imagine what it would be like for Finn. The isolation only would be devastating. The two of them worked hard for their relationship.
Thank you for the privilege of reading this book! Well done ❤️
Beautiful story! Finn and Brianna are practically made for each other and they have nothing in common. Especially Finn is a wonderfully etched character. Beautiful story.
I've never read this author's work, nor have I read the other books in the River's End series, but this was an incredible journey and a very unique storyline. I really enjoyed how descriptive and compassionate her words conveyed what it would be like being unable to hear. Finn and Brianna's relationship and journey was a truly beautiful story. Definitely recommend!
I rarely write reviews, so this one bothered me enough to write one. I felt it tried but failed to educate individuals on the hearing impaired, or shall I say it did a disservice to those who are hearing impaired. The heroine Brianna meets Finn (completely deaf) and basically turns him into her newest project. Supposedly she falls in love with him and wants to learn more about how he lives in a silent world, which she does by utilizing google and watching youtube videos?! Go to a library and get some books on the subject, or better yet, take an ASL class. Throughout the book, she reiterates her wish to understand him and connect with him but doesn't bother to learn basic ASL?! The language of the hearing impaired?! He constantly is forced to read her lips and understand her methods of communication. I thought the friend Felicity made some very good points. Brianna was so immature I started rooting for Felicity and Finn to get together. It isn't till the very end that Brionna bothers to learn ASL and master it. (And, really, she only did this to keep her man from Felicity) I think this book could have been exponentially better had Brionna, from the beginning, learned to communicate with the man she supposedly loved and wanted to get to know. Seeing that dynamic would have been such a better read and made her actions seem genuine instead of self-serving. Also, weird that more closure wasn't made with Finn's past.

Brianna Starr has spent her summers at Rydell Ranch since her mom, Hailey, married Joey Rydell. She loves her life in Everett but when she is asked by Cami Reed to run her summer programs while she goes to Europe she agrees to take on the project.
Finn Alexander is 23 and is a recluse but loves working for Jack on the ranch. He has lived a very solitary life since his parents died when he was 6 and he lost his hearing and was forced to live with a distant uncle who never wanted him.
When Brianna meets Finn she sees a handsome guy and begins to bring him out into the world a little more. But where Brianna finds joy, Finn struggles and the two must discover if they can blend their two completely different lives together.
This was a really good book and I enjoyed learning about Finn and all of the struggles that he faced in his life.
I liked Brianna and how she was so much more than we thought she was due to how she had been portrayed in previous books. In this book you learn how intellectual she is and how social media savvy. I was amazed at what was revealed in the book and how much she was able to do for the ranch and all their platforms.
Finn was such a great character and I understood why he was such a recluse after everything he had been through. He was never really accepted before as he never fit in anywhere and therefore he kept to himself. He loved working with the horses and found so much peace with them.
Initially I felt like Brianna viewed Finn as a little bit of a project but gradually you discovered how much she cared but at the same time she was trying to fit Finn into her life and she had no idea how uncomfortable he really was. That part truly broke my heart. Brianna was trying so hard but never really understood how Finn felt.
It was interesting once Felicity came into the picture and I knew there would be trouble. It was super interesting seeing Felicity's views on certain things and how much she differed from Finn yet they were brought together over commonality.
There were so many ups and downs between Finn and Brianna but I knew they had so much love but it was interesting seeing if that would be enough for them.
I loved the way things ended up coming together for Finn and Brianna. I was completely shocked by what happened with Jacob and everything that unfolded there!!
The epilogue was great and I look forward to the last book in the series!
This book was fantastic. I mean it contains all the feelings that you love in a great book. The author does a fantastic job with such a delicate matter. I mean this shows that despite hearing or not, you have insecurities and jealously that could ruin a realtionship. Brianna you get to know a little about her with the other books but this you get to see different sides to her. She is miss popularity, a dedicated sister and best friend. Meeting Finn opens her eyes to world she never thought existed. She brings him out the darkness that he's been in for so long.. His story breaks my heart. I mean he lost his family, his hearing, raised by a family member who didn't get a crap about him. He's pretty much been raising himself. He's learned how to sign language, talk and read lips. Thru Brianna, he is introduced to a world he never thought he'd get to belong or meet. He loves having friends he can communicate with but Brianna feels left out. He feels the same with her friends. She does an excellent job of informing others about his condition and how to communicate with him. This was such a beautiful story with heartwarming moments. I seriously loved this book and can't wait to read the next one!!!!
finn is deaf and no one knows him except the ones who knows him. he is a great worker for the family. she is unaware of his condition when they meet they are good friends and one night she decides to show him a s it is great to read about a man who is deaf and a lady who is hearing. when they go n visit her dad while on a trip to see a possible investor for the ranch finn meets a girl who is also deaf who in turns arranges for him too meet other who are deaf. their relationship is good. she goes to see her brother n his girl and finds a newborn baby who is not being taken care of. she takes him but leaves a note she did what she thought was right. I can't wait for the next book
What an powerful story! This one was in my top five of the series.
The author did an incredible job with a storyline that couldn’t have been easy to write. This is the first book I’ve read where one of the main characters was deaf. The background work that had to go into this story must have been crazy intense.
Brianna is beautiful inside and out. She is the lioness that protects her pack and Finn just so happens to become one of her pack.
Finn’s life has been hard. He’s cut himself off from the public eye. People can suck sometimes. It’s easier if he just blends in to the scenery. Brianna isn’t having any of that. She wants Finn to step into the light and won’t take no for an answer.
Brianna is a successful blogger spending some time with her family at River’s End. Finn works are the horse rescue operation and is deaf. Sounds like the beginning of a good read. But...Brianna is all about herself and promoting what she wants, regardless of other people involved. She’s interested in a person who is dead but makes no effort to learn ASL until almost the end of the book. She’s a successful blogger but tells no one in her family or boy friend but bitches about how no one knows how successful she is. She flirts and flaunts to get what she wants and acts surprised when men come on to her and Finn misunderstands. The story ends up being all about her with Finn a curious sideline character when HE was the more interesting one.
Brianna and Finn were from two totally different worlds. The spectrum was broad. Brianna could hear the birds chirping and the wind through the trees. Finn's whole life was utter silence, completely deaf. Brianna dragged him out of his lonely quiet existence and fought for their love. But the barriers and struggles between the hearing world and deaf world will test their limits. I've watched Brianna grow up in the River's End series, having met her as a teenager earlier in the series. I loved finally reading her story. This was another emotional book for me. I cried and laughed and wanted to jump in and scream along with her. Definitely another great read in the River's End series!
We met Brianna Star when she was a teenager, intent on seducing Joey Rydell, who later became her step-father. She has grown up and is now an educated entrepreneur on her own. When she comes back to stay with her mother at the Rydell ranch, she meets a young man who works with the rescued horses. She later learns that he is deaf. Their relationship is challenged by communication issues that expands beyond the hearing impairment. It was good to see her relationships with her family and the rest of the Rydell ranch family and how she was able to bring Finn into the fold.
I have to say if you want to really know how it is for the death and the hearing live this the book for you. The author really was great and did her homework on this book. The story was one that you would think couldn't reach a great ending. The passed the main characters had and how they lived there live was tough as it was, But to add that one was death and wanted to hide from the world while the other wanted to be part of the world. The way they worked together to get to know them selfes as well as each other was fantastic. Loved this book.
We met Brianna when she was a bratty teenager, intent on seducing much older Joey Riddell. Now she's a young, beautiful and smart young woman just trying to find her way in the world. She comes across Finn Alexander a young deaf man who works with the horses on the Riddell farm. Finn's been on his own most of his life, but meeting Brianna opens the world to him. Can he find his way and a future with Brianna? This book is realistic, with a character-driven plot and a deeply revealing look into deaf - culture and the many obstacles facing those with disabilities.
I have enjoyed reading the River End series. River Rescue was a easy read for me and difficult to put down. I really liked reading about Brianna Star and Finn Alexander. The connection these 2 characters had blew me out of the water. Nothing stood in the way of their relationship and the love they had for each other. It didn't even matter with Finn being deaf and Brianna being a part of the hearing world. They found a way to make their relationship work.
I enjoyed how the epilogue summed up the overall story of ALL the characters. In they end Brianna and Finn got their own HEA.
I thoroughly loved Finn and Brianna story. I loved Breanna in Charlie and Camis story. Brianna is definitely the reason for the saying you can't judge a book by it's cover. I also loved Finn. I understand why he felt the way he did. He didn't know what would hit him when Brianna stormed into his life and she definitely stormed in and made it fun. I honestly didn't like Felicity and laughed at the end what Brianna did. My heart went out to Jacob and I can't wait to read his story. I highly recommend this must read book.
I loved this book. The writing as always is superb. The reality and struggles of people with disability and how they survive are depicted so vividly and realistically in the book. Even though you can't imagine how a deaf person's life could be, it gives you a pretty good idea. The characters are sweet and innocent, flawed not in a big way and constantly trying to be better for each other. What tugged at my heart strings was that even though it was young love which translates to - giving up easily in the face of hurdles, Brianna was steadfast in her commitment to Finn and how they to make it work between them.
Finn is a ranch hand working with the rescue horses. He is deaf and reads lips. All he does is work he has few interactions with anyone. Brianna at first thinks he rude until she learns of his disability. She then makes it her mission to befriend him and make his life better. There is a lot of repetition in this book because it includes both Finn and Brianna’s POV.
I have yet to find an author as emotionally invested in her characters as Leanne Davis. This is an emotional series that just gets better and better. I look forward to each new release, and yet so sad, because I know the end is near. I loved Brianna, the girl every girl wants to be.....Finn was an intriguing addition. I admire the depths of description when addressing his deafness. Awakened my desire to learn ASL. Incredible book, addictive series. I'm a forever fan.
I've loved this whole series, but this one seemed to take you away from the ranch & other integral people involved in this family. I felt like this until the end when family was pulled back in to the story. The last chapter was so real. I was in tears reading it. The feelings all came full circle for this family. I'm going to dive into book 10 which is the final book in this series.
I love the River End series. This is book 9 in the series and it was great. Leanne Davis takes us on another wonderful journey. We meet Fin. He is deaf and keeps to himself. He just wants to do his job and be left alone. Brianna bumps into him one day and thinks he is rude when he doesnt respond to her. Once she finds out he is deaf she is on a mission to befriend him. These 2 have great chemistry but hurtles to over come. Another great book.
This book by Leanne Davis is such an amazing and emotional read. You will not be able to put it down once you have started reading it. You will also need to have your tissues on standby. The message of this book is clear; showing love and acceptance to those around you who may be a little "different" is definitely the way to go. You do not want to miss out on this gem of a book. I also can't wait to read the next book about Jacob.
