Benjamin Herring lived as a freeman working with his adoptive father, a wood cutter, and living with in their tiny cottage in the woods. Living off the land, Benjamin worked day and night to keep his mother and twin sisters well fed. For a time all seemed right, that was until he met a noble girl from a powerful ancient house and one of the most powerful founding pillars of the Dead Guard. Little did Benjamin realize how much his first love could cost him and his family.
