Abris:: The Moonstone

Rate this book
The intended use of the moonstone was to defeat the soul suckers, but when magic went wrong everything backfired separating it into two pieces and was discovered embedded within two human children. Abris is a where Shadoe and her clan have trained since birth to aid humans and keep them safe from the soul sucking Mastrodoxians. Her father and his friends had defeated the Mastrodoxians by banishing them to a desolate world. Phaeton watched the battle and barely escaped with Shadoe never knowing what happened to her mother.
Shadoe, the daughter of Shakira is embarking on a journey to locate and rescue the mother she has never met. For as long as she could remember she dreamt about a young human named Drake, and a woman who continued to scream in agony. When she began seeing visions of him and hearing him talk to her, she thought she was going crazy. When she saw his reflection it stunned and confused her because he had the same appearance as her; she wanted to help him yet didn’t know how.
Her first thought was to remain quiet, but she decided to talk to others who could help her decide what to do. After Drake and his companion regained their senses the journey to rescue Serena began. Shadoe made many friends along the way who helped her discover who she really is. Her travels took her to Mysticor where she met the Queen and discovered unique traits as-well-as new friends that could help defeat the Mastrodoxians, but the first thing they need to do was locate the moonstone.
Now that the moonstone was finally extracted from the humans it is time to move forward and defeat the Mastrodoxians for good. The unexpected arrival of Serena and Caleb changed what would happen next.

An Intriguing Fairy Tale

Abris introduced me into many fairy tale worlds which are working together for the good of humankind. This interesting take on the different mythical creatures was delightful which kept me reading. There were a couple of scenes which had me rather lost as they explained some backstories, which I’m sure were very clear in the author’s mind, yet they were a bit vague in the telling. Also, there were many places where the punctuation and/or grammar needed to be revised to make the story easier to understand. I would recommend this book for any YA readers who want to take a great adventure.

I really enjoyed the "idea" of Abris: The Moonstone. I kept waiting for the characters, especially Shadoe and Drake to pull at my heartstrings, but they didn't.
Abris has all the makings of a much larger story than it is, sweeping the reader off to multiple locales (Earth, Matrodox, Alovis, Mysticor), dozens of characters, shifting POVs. In the end, all the shifting and locales left me feeling dizzy and confused at times, and not because there is anything wrong with all the shifting and locales. I read epic stories all the time that have multiple characters with multiple POVs and locations.
The problem is, Abris is actually an epic tale crushed into less than 200 pages.
I wish the writer had either broken the story into five, perhaps even ten short stories, giving each event and person greater clarity and heart or slowed down, fleshed out the details and made it an epic tale, at least 300 pages, if not more. The author should be proud of the work put in so far. It is a good read. It is just crushing it into this tiny space left me feeling a bit empty. The author left the door open for a second book. I'd be interested to see where the story goes from here.

The story showed a lot of imagination. It has great potential to be a wonderful work. It is, however, confusing at times. It seemed to jump around a bit much for me. There was a lot of "telling" by the author as opposed to "showing," and there were grammatical and punctuation errors that should be corrected. If someone is a fast reader, they most likely will skim right over the errors. I, however, am a slow reader. I think with just a little more polish; Tammy Travers has a great book on her hands here. I would have loved nothing more than to have given this book five stars. However, being an indie author myself, I don't want to do an injustice to my fellow indie author.

I loved it. The characters were interesting and easy to love. I just wish the beginning of the love story between the main character and her love interesting would have been explored a but more
