Born in the Midwest, I live in New York's scenic Hudson Valley Region with my husband and two sons. A huge reader since childhood, I penned my first full-length novel in high school on a typewriter in my parent's living room. That was when my dream of becoming a published author was born. Life happened, and it took a while, but I can honestly say: it's the best job ever.

Thank you to Blackthorn Book Tours and C.L. Schneider for providing me a copy of Flash Point for an honest book review and including me in the book tour!

Dahlia Nite grew up brainwashed into believing she should follow The Guild of Dragons’ orders no matter the cost. As a half dragon half human lyrriken, she was taught that she owed her existence to the elder dragons. But the night her powers of empathy awakened, her beliefs began to change. In the middle of a kill order, she hesitated to kill a child. Her insubordination sentenced her to death. But Dahlia escaped her world, sliding into a portal destined for the human realm. Now she hides in plain sight, taking jobs and protecting the humans from creatures they have no idea exist.

Very rarely do I see dragons brought into urban fantasy. But C. L. Schneider did the perfect job incorporating high fantasy elements into an urban fantasy world. The dragons weren’t just another supernatural creature. They had an entire civilization built into the story that coincided with the modern day world. And what affected one world would inevitably snowball into affecting the other.

But not only was the world-building seamless, the main character Dahlia drove the story forward with a vengeance. Dahlia is a tough as nails half dragon that refuses to back down and be forced into anything. As a result of this, the entirety of Flash Point was filled to the brim with action. And I loved the element of tension as Dahlia tried to hide the work of supernatural creatures in an ever-evolving world of technology. Not to mention the revenge driven plot that brought to light just how far the dragons will go to protect their existence. Every piece of this book was fast-paced and conflict driven. I loved every minute of it!

There is so much left to be told about this world C.L. Schneider unveiled. I can’t wait to read the next book and dive into the political schemes of the dragon world. Because there is certainly something brewing on the horizon, and Flash Point gives you just enough information to leave you wanting more.

After becoming an exile from her home world nearly a hundred years ago, Dahlia has become an expert at hiding her dragon side from humans. She works to keep humans peacefully ignorant from "supernatural" species, but may have met her match in a new case brought to her of a gruesome murder.

I received a free copy in exchange or an honest review.
I will admit now that Schneider's Crown of Stones has been one of my favourite series, so I was very excited to get a chance to read her first foray into a different world.
This was awesome, and I really enjoyed it. I found it so much easier to follow, and so much more accessible, with more defined species etc, than Crown of Stones (sorry, Troy).

It starts with her exile from Drimera (the dragon world) a hundred years ago, then quickly jumps ahead to the modern day, where Dahlia is confident in the life she leads. She moves a lot so people don't realise that she's not ageing, picking up different identities as she goes; but she is inevitably drawn back to the city of Sentinel, the only place she recognises as home.

She works as a freelance monster-hunter; monster-mess-cleaner-upper; and an adviser and CSI-type person for the police. It all helps Dahlia feel like she's still doing her duty in protecting Drimeria and other the worlds humans have no business knowing.
Dahlia throws herself into this work, to feel like she has a purpose in her long life.

The other characters wedge into Dahlia's obstinately-lonely existence, and I really liked... well, all of them.
Evans in particular is great, he's a geek at heart and provides levity whenever things could get too dark and depressing.

The plot keeps you guessing the whole time, as any murder mystery should - this one just happens to have dragons in it.
It's not afraid to be bloody and violent, and has a matter-of-fact approach to these things. It doesn't shy away, and it doesn't revel in it, it just is.
The story pulls you along with its twists and its great characters, and I would definitely approve reading it.

Next book, please.

Nite Fire is the first C.L. Schneider book I've picked up, and I must say - I am impressed! The writing is professional and tight, the characters are interesting and full of depth, and the story keeps you guessing.
It begins with Dahlia, a tough as nails, no B.S. half human half dragon lyrriken living in Sentinel city. The first half of the novel reads much like a murder mystery, with a dash of supernatural half-dragon badassery. As it progresses, C.L. introduces a great depth of world building that had been lying in wait, just below the surface. She masterfully weaves the supernatural into our own world, creating a plausible framework in which the story plays out.
If you're a fan of mystery, page-turning action, ass-kicking female protagonists, and characters you actually care about, this book is for you.

Flash Point, the first instalment in the adult urban fantasy series Nite Fire by C. L. Schneider wonderfully enmeshes and plays with the elements of action, adventure, deception, love and obsession. It has crime, mystery, suspense; Oh! and Dragons of course!

*Plot/Development: Flash Point, starts with Dahlia Nite fleeing the parallel world of dragons, her homeland - Drimera to escape a death sentence. She is half human half dragon – a lyrriken, who finds her shelter in the human realm. The story then advances to Sentinel City 97 years later. She now has dedicated her life to the protection of the human race as an expression of gratitude for providing her shelter.

But some mysterious and gruesome murders are happening in the town. Bodies are piling up. And Dahlia knows that none but the shape-shifters are responsible for these. What she doesn’t know is: Why? The chase begins as she gets more involved in the case and as she finds out that it leads to the world where she sweared not to return ever again.

It is a great combination of a murder mystery with dragons in it!

The plot constantly keeps you guessing. And the mystery that unfolds is unpredictable and smart. The action is very entertaining and the suspense completely pulls you in. It totally lives up to the ‘Urban Fantasy’ tag that is very hard to hit.

*Characters: The author has introduced many characters in the story and has done a great job shaping their personalities. To follow each of them grow with the story was really amazing and sometimes quite surprising. Some of the characters were developed in the story while some awaits to be developed in the next.

Also the kick-ass strong female protagonist along with some other terribly strong female characters gets Nite Fire some brownie points.

*Ending: The ending doesn’t leave you on a cliff-hanger but certainly has open ends that are to be resolved and answered in the next part that follows. So the ending leaves you, both satisfied and curious. You’ll no doubt want to know more about this world – about Drimera, and the politics that transpires.

*Writing: It is well-written and tight. It was very easy to get lost in the story with so such going on and so many characters, but Schneider with her impressive writing skills keeps it all together.

So, this was indeed a thrilling ride full of action and chase. I give it a solid 4.5 stars.

Prepare to be sucked in by this gritty, dark urban fantasy. Filled with mystery, danger, dragons, shifters and all manner of intriguing fantasy creatures, Nite Fire: Flash Point by C.L. Schneider is one helluva ride! Dahlia Nite has secrets; but her deceptions are necessary. After fleeing her home in disgrace, Dahlia lives in the human world in her human form, taking contract jobs and protecting humanity from the magic all around. With a death sentence hanging over her head, the human realm is a safe-haven from her fellow lyrriken shifters. Homesick for Drimera, she knows she can never return. But when her one remaining Drimeran contact, Oren, puts her onto a case with obvious lyrriken involvement, the past she has spent nearly a century outrunning looks to be catching up with a vengeance.

Nite Fire: Flash Point has everything an urban fantasy should: action, danger, a well formed mythos, interesting creatures with diverse powers, and a hero you can get behind. In Dahlia Nite, C.L. Schneider has created someone special. She's tough, conflicted and smart, with a dark past casting shadows on her every action. Pulled deeper and deeper into her investigation, readers get to witness the aloof shifter draw close to the humans around her, possibly developing the first real friendships in her long existence. But what price will she pay for these connections? And can her new friends accept the truths hidden in plain sight? Nite Fire: Flash Point by C.L. Schneider is full of action and intrigue, a must-read for lovers of urban fantasy, and an addicting start to a series.

This is the first book I’ve read from C.L. Schneider. I was lured in by the amazing cover.

Give me a strong female ass-kicker any day! And it’s a bonus that she’s half-dragon plus a shapeshifter plus an assassin from another world. *drool* This complex mix is written extremely well, making Dahlia Nite quite a relatable and likable character. (Yes, you CAN relate to a half-human, half-dragon, shapeshifting assassin from another world thanks to Ms. Schneider’s writing finesse.)

Flash Point is fast-paced, action-packed, with all the twists and surprises your brain needs to keep the pages turning, and a tad gruesome in some parts, but not unnecessarily so. It’s also fun! Humor is injected in just the right spots. This is one of those books where you tell yourself “just one more chapter” and then suddenly it’s 2am.

The world C.L. Schneider creates feels incredibly real; the vivid descriptions, the character interaction, and the dialog all made for my complete immersion into this world, running full-on like a movie in my head. I love it when a book does that!

This story was so engaging for me, I NEEDED to know what was happening. I didn't want to stop even though I had to do other life things. This hit all my buttons, police procedural, dragons, fire and magic. This is a book I would 100% read/listen to again. Dahlia reminded me so much of an old pen and paper rpg character I created years ago. She was a red headed, fire dragoon that could shift fully human. So that brought back some nostalgic memories for me, I cannot wait to get book two and start it.

I did listen to this on Audible and wanted to comment on the narrator, Cassandra King, as well. I thought she did a great job with the different voices and I was really happy when a part that came up that was whispered in the dialog that I could actually make out what was being said! I almost never can which is very frustrating for me in other audio.

Nite Fire: Flash Point is a paranormal fantasy by C. L. Schneider. I have not read this author before, so I was not sure of what to expect, but the reviews were fairly good. I don't usually read this genre, having felt that I have read all there was to read from this topic. How wrong I was. I always marvel at how different each author is and the different stories and varied detail and character traits. These stories are always imaginative and creative. Nite Fire: Flash Point was no exception.

To the story. The story was dramatic, packed full of action, deception, danger, and lovin. The energetic storyline is highly addictive, and this author is one I thoroughly enjoyed and will definately be reading more in the future. 4 stars.

I have to admit, from the synopsis I was skeptical. I love being surprised when this happens. This book kept you on your toes and guessing as to what would happen next. Dahlia Nite just wants to live as normal a life as she can, blending in with the humans around her.

A hundred years ago Dahlia came to this world to escape execution at the hands of her dragon Queen. In that time she has had to hide her dragon nature from those around her and keep moving to stay ahead of those who seek her and those who would notice she hasn’t changed over the years.

I really enjoyed the characters and plot to this book. I’m excited to see where this series goes.

"Flash Point (Nite Fire, #1) is a unique take on a modern dragon tale. The main character is a shapeshifter, borne of a dragon and a human. This gives her magical powers and abilities. She has travelled through a portal to our modern world, where she has chosen to use her extra sensory powers to combat the evil of her kind. She teams up with a local cop and together they seek to solve murder mysteries. In the meantime, she is haunted by her past, and the grim choices that brought her here.

Magical, sensory, lush, with fast paced action and fun dialogue, this is a perfect book for sci-fi fantasy fans win search of a thrilling escape.

What a fun and intense urban fantasy! I really enjoyed this book and had trouble putting it down. I was giving my pets a frowny face when I had to set aside my book to feed them dinner. And I love my pets, so that’s not something I say lightly.

Dahlia Nite is my kind of hero. She’s got snark, strength, smarts, and practical footwear. I love that she doesn’t have any qualms about a little breaking and entering if it means catching a bad guy. She’s already got enough weighing her conscience down; why add on some piddly little stuff like arson if it means one less predator is on the loose?

The story does start off with a smidge of high fantasy, as we first meet Dahlia in her native world of dragons and shape shifters. Events fall out so that Dahlia has to flee her home and she ends up in our world. Step forward 100 years, and you have the bulk of this story. People from her home world put in appearances and they definitely complicate her (mostly) human life.

Dahlia is working as an arson consultant with the local police. Pretty soon the series of supposedly spontaneous combustions has the police on edge. Dahlia knows it’s one of her kind, but not who and there’s no way she can explain all that to the human police.

Casey Evans eventually becomes her enthusiastic side kick. I really liked this guy. Every career-oriented lady needs a side kick like Evans. Then Detective Alex Creed was fun because he’s such a cynical curmudgeon. Dahlia has a hard time lying to him because she knows that he can tell when she’s lying and it bothers her. These two have a touching moment later and that’s when I truly let Creed in. I knew then that I wanted him on Dahlia’s team.

There’s more than 1 murderer, and more than 1 psychopath, but not all get what they deserve. It was complicated and I like complicated, messy. That’s life. Dahlia gains much from her experiences in this story, but she also loses at least one important thing. The story ends wrapping things up well for this book but with enough open for a sequel (which I look forward to very much). 5/5 stars.

The Narration: Cassandra King did some amazing things with her voice for this book. How the heck did she do that? and then that? And this other voice over here? I was very surprised by her diversity of voices. She made a very excellent angry dragon, a creepy female psycho path, an endearing snarky hero, a grumpy detective, a boxing trainer, and so much more. It was truly excellent how she portrayed this book. On the technical side, I did notice a few small sections where the volume went a little high or a little low. Other than that, excellent narration. 4.75/5 stars.

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by C.L. Schneider. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

Flash Point was an intriguing novel to say the least. If you’re a lover of dragons and half-breeds, this is right up your alley. Dahlia Nite, our heroine, fled her world because of one mistake. Now she must protect her new home from the threat of powerful creatures—and from a plot deeper than she can imagine, of course.

This entire novel is very well-written. The author paid close attention to detail and the story really came to life in the mind of the reader. So much attention was paid to the worldbuilding. I loved the setting, and I loved how the author separated the two worlds.

It took me a little while to warm up to Dahlia. At first I thought it was because she was so good at everything—I’m not going to say she didn’t make mistakes; she did, even though it didn’t always feel like that. I spent some time thinking about why it bothered me so much and I realized that it was the first-person tone that was used. For me, personally, there are two types of tones when it comes to telling a story through first-person perspective: self-absorbed and casual (I’m currently working on an adequate way to explain what I mean by this, I promise). I think without meaning to, Dahlia took on that self-absorbed tone which succeeded in turning me off of her character at the beginning. As the story progressed, though, Dahlia really grew on me and the tonality was something I was able to successfully overlook.

If that happened to be my biggest complaint of the novel, I’d call that a win. I liked the story, the story progression, and the other characters. I was genuinely afraid that a notorious love triangle was going to come along and complicate character relationships. In this novel at least, that fear was assuaged. The author set up Dahlia’s backstory nicely and it fit in well with the plot. By the end of it, I was really happy that the author chose a female protagonist. I just don’t see the story being the same without her.

For all personal hang-ups, this turned out to be a worthwhile read. It piqued my interest in the rest of Dahlia’s adventures, and I can only hope that the final climax is as epic as the novel appears to be building towards. Well done.

Fast-paced and intriguing

What an original, action-packed urban fantasy tale of crime and mystery. There are so many layers, and I'm thrilled it doesn't end with one book. I can't wait to continue reading the series!

Dahlia Nite is a great protagonist. Powerful, yet human. Supernatural, yet relatable. She is interesting with her own mysteries waiting to be untangled while being someone you care about and like.

I liked the honesty of the book. It showed the characters as they are - good and bad. It made every creature "human." It allowed you to feel along with Dahl, heightening her empathic abilities. The descriptions brought vivid imagery and pulled me into the pages.

I recommend this title. There's some violence and disturbing events, but it is necessary. It's a murder mystery involving a dragon-shifter who was once an executioner, so... just be ready for that.

Off to book two for me!!!

Dahlia Nite was more

Overall 5 out of 5 stars
Performance 4 out of 5 stars
Story 5 out of 5 stars

Dahlia Nite was one badass with a heart of sorts. She had some standards and morals. She did what no one was expecting from her. She became the protector of the world she sot out refuge in. Dahlia was strong, determined, and well worth the listen. She was the light in the night or should I say nite. Well written, well narrated, well-rounded characters that had depth and dimension. The world was well captivated and visualized.

Right from the start. Some may feel like this moves too slow. Speed up the audio is my recommendation. Or you may just need to really pay attention. This world was rich and filling. You will find a protector with more than the skill to back her up. She was compassionate, determined, skilled, and driven. Where will things go next. I really, really want to know. So, yes I will be there when it comes out.

Dahlia refreshes her own memories about how she came to Earth, why she is there to solve these cases and yet you wonder if it is for her own self-worth or to really save mankind. A video would change it all as Creed played the feed and an older woman appeared on the screen and it makes you wonder what part she might have played as she opened the door for the woman, and she was then enveloped in smoke. Not telling anyone about it she was a witness to what happened, and Creed called her on it.
The bodies on the street were incinerated at the same temperature as the Chandler family. Whatever was used was the same weapon for all the murders but who was behind it and why?
He accused her of obstruction of justice and then things get even more tense as she claims he is accusing her of killing Ella and her family and burned a little girl’s body in half, a little boy watched him die the day before on his birthday makes her sound merciless. As the novel continues there are more deaths, more murders and she is relentless and will not stop until she figures out what is behind it. Is it human or is it dragon or something else?
The more she delves into the murders the more her instincts tell her that she might have to get away. What is the past finds her in the present in this world? How long can she run from her own secrets and truths? Is she doing this to avenge the deaths or for her own self-worth and self-esteem?
Her home world is at the root of this. People from her past come back and test her. Her visions of the deaths and murders haunt her at the most unusual times as she is investigating the case or something else. Even her mentor Oren does not reveal everything to her and working with Creed they each play off each other’s ego’s and more.
Frankie was her best friend and the owner of a gym the surprise ending about what he decides to leave her shocks Dahlia, but will she honor what he wants from her? Added in when you read the epilogue and learn more about who was behind the murders, how she finally figures it out will she live to stop what something or someone has put in place? Will she continue to run? Will she have to hide? When you read the epilogue and relive the scene with her you will know that this is not over yet. Tough, tenacious, overpowering and never yielding you do not want to mess with NITE FIRE! Strong characters, a plot that will keep you riveted to the printed page until you reach the outstanding and surprise ending. More to come I am sure.

Nite: Fire: Flash Point by CL Schneider is a supernatural shifter book. This book has action, mystery and suspense. This story is about someone who has had to leave their home to protect their safety but when things lead back to home, things may never be the same again. One thing that I enjoy about this author is her creativeness to write stories that are full of fantasy. I enjoy her character development and characters that you will sincerely enjoy. These characters will take you on a journey between two worlds where humans and the supernatural collide. They will keep you engaged until the end and you will need to finish this story because you will just have to know what happened. Find out what happens to this characters as they take you on a journey of imagination like no other.

Dahlia Nite is a shape-shifting assassin that has been slated for execution. She flees to the human world for safety. She dedicates herself protector of the humans from things they don't know existed and they provide shelter to her in return. She has been moving from town to town in search of a creature that threaten the unsuspecting humans. Burying the truth could destroy them all. What will happen when the lies are building and the shadows are shifting? What will happen when murders are threatening Sentinel City from things that never should have been seen? Secrets that have been kept are in danger of being exposed but will they come out? She starts investigating these murders while trying to conceal their circumstances. Will the peace she has found here start to fall apart with each murder? Each clue she finds, leads her back to one place she never thought she would go again. Will she have to return home for figure out this mystery?

Dahlia is a strong character that is a little feisty but strong and I don't think I would cross her. She has lived a complicated life where most don't live as long as she has in this world. The secondary characters seem to bring out the best qualities in her. You will find yourself wanting to succeed on her quest. The secondary characters are just as strong as they complement her. They have hidden depth that you will need to see throughout the book. There are many characters in this book that will keep you sitting on the edge of your seat. The story wouldn't be as strong without all of them, they just make it flow together easily. Find out what will happen to Dahlia as she investigates the murders and where it will take her. The question is where will the investigation take her? Will she be able to save the humans before more are lost?

I enjoyed this book and I would say it is my favorite of all of CL Schneider's books. I enjoy her imagination in her books. I can't wait to see if she continues this series! CL grew up in Missiori on the river and has been an avid reader ever since with overflowing bookshelves. This is her first published series which is almost finished. She is sad to see it end but is excited to see what the future brings for her. You will totally lose yourself in this book and you will find it hard to put down. You will need to see if Dahlia saves the humans and where things lead her. This book pulled me in from the the first chapter and I believe it will pull you in too. I highly recommend this story as you will want to see what happens in this new series by this author!

Dahlia Nite is a woman who moves around a lot ever since she escaped from her home and her execution, all because she paused while carrying out her duty when she was startled by something she couldn't easily explain, so she ran in the middle of the night leaving everything and everyone she knew behind and escaped to the human realm, but her past has caught up with her now she has moved back to Sentinel City and not just when she is reliving her pain and fear in her dreams whenever she goes to sleep. When she uncovers a nest of otherworldly creatures who have been killing the humans in the city she currently calls home, she has no choice but to exterminate them, although it isn’t easy and she has to hide her true form while doing it, she completes her mission, but while working out how the creatures made it there, it is what they say which troubles her more, this and the fact that these particular creatures normally live alone, but here there were five of them, just another thing to add onto her list of strange things happening in Sentinel City.

The next day she is contacted by her contractor saying that there has been a murder, but that it is so unusual in the way it was commited that she is being called in to help and so keep the humans from finding out what truly happened there, but when she arrives at the scene, she is shown in by a police officer who looks like he doubts what he is seeing as she doesn’t look old enough to have experience of dealing with these types of investigations. The brutality of the murders is the first thing she notices and the manner in which they were killed is devastatingly familiar and that is before she has even properly looked at the bodies, but she knows exactly what did this, the thing she needs to find out now is why this family is dead. When she meets the captain of the police force there, she learns that she is being assigned a partner to investigate with, but after she requests to be alone with the scene, she confirms her original suspicions, even though she doesn’t want to. Later on in the day, she goes to a favourite haunt to have a drink and think about what she had found out that day, however, she senses someone nearby who could be involved and gives chase, however, when she gets close to them, they attack and this leads to more bodies like the ones at the house, but she loses sight of the person when they escape out of the back of the building.

Things start to get more complicated after she meets her new partner and that is when she realises that this one is going to become a thorn in her side, especially when the bodies start to pile up and any leads she has are either dead ends or things she can’t explain to the other officers on the team, she knows she is running out of time to figure it all out, but that doesn’t make it any easier on her. Will Dahlia be able to figure out who is killing these people and why while also covering it all up at the same time, or will the cat get out of the bag and reveal everything she has been trying to hide? This action packed urban fantasy will leave you wanting more as you are pulled in all the same directions as Dahlia as you try to figure things out with her.

Dahlia Nite wanted nothing more but to make her queen happy and serve her people but when she was cast out for being herself she loses faith in her people, the dragons. Instead Dahlia has made a life the last 100 years living among the humans, living many different lonely lives. When she is hired as a consultant on an unusual fire death, Dahlia realizes that her two worlds are about to clash.

I am such a fan of urban fantasy and am always on the lookout for something new and different and Nite Fire was certainly something different. This was such a detailed, cool version of the world, where dragons exist in secret right next to man in their own world easily accessed with portals, where hybrids are born to be the soldiers the dragons need. I have never read anything like this before, equal parts dangerous and magical (as well as dark with a crazy convoluted plot)while at the same time a police murder investigation runs through the pages. Can we just take a minute to mention how deadly dragon punishment is? Yikes. I can gladly say that I am happy I am not a dragon.

I think I would have enjoyed the story a little bit more if I had read the book instead of listening to it. The narrator was fantastic at giving all the characters voices but I feel like her overall narration for Dahlia was a little unemotional. I had a hard time connecting to her as a character and keeping my focus since at times her voice was a little monotone- great for delivering information, not so good for establishing a relationship with a character. Her enunciation was clear and concise which I appreciated, but I was definitely distanced from the character overall.

I am for sure interested in this world and I would love to pick up the next book to read. There were plenty of things explained and resolved, but also so many mysteries and complicated world building that were left unsolved I am desperate to get answers to. And it wouldn't hurt to get to see the strange dragon Cohen again, just saying. This is the perfect read for anyone who loved dragons, fantasies, dark urban fantasy and police investigations with a paranormal flair.

Nite Fire: Flash Point
By: C.L. Schneider
5 out of 5 stars

The story Nite Fire: Flash Point by C.L. Schneider is a thrilling supernatural shifter book. This is a story that will capture your imagination and you will not want to put it down until you have finished. It has action, mysteries that must be solved, and plenty of awesome characters. Dalia Nite has fled her homeworld to live in the human realm because she was going to be executed. There she protects humans from what they don’t know exist. She hunts down the creatures that would do them harm. Now there has been a series of murders in Sentinal City which are a complete mystery and she has been given the task of investigating them. Will Dalia find out who is committing these murders and why they are taking place?

This book is awesome! This author knows how to weave a story that will mesmerize and leave you wanting to read more. I have read the other series that she has written and was blown away by that one as well. I love how she gives so much detail to the story and the characters. There are many characters in this book but the one that I love the most is Dalia. She is a shapeshifter that has had to leave her home as her actions one night caused her to be slated for execution. Alone she lives among humans vowing to protect them. Dalia is an excellent fighter and she takes any problem head on. I felt for Dalia and that she was forced to leave her home. She takes jobs hunting down creatures who find their way to the human realm. Dalia has a mentor that has taken her under his wing however he doesn't always reveal the whole truth to her. Dalia has two problems when she starts to investigate this series of murders. The first is who is committing them and why the second is make sure that information about things that shouldn’t be known is not revealed. Where will this investigation lead Dalia? Can she solve the case before more lives are lost?

Dalia begins to uncover secrets about her home world and those that live there. She is constantly running into acquaintances from the past. Dalia has special abilities the guide her, she also has dreams at night that haunt her. This is a story that is action packed and had me reminding myself to breathe. It is one that you don’t want to miss. Read this story and follow Dalia through her investigation and what she finds. This is the first book in the Nite Fire Series and I can’t wait to read the next one.

If you had abilities to do certain things, like yield fire or water, would you use that to your advantage? What if you had the ability to shift into a dragon? Wouldn’t that be pretty cool?! Schneider is an author that we’ve read before and her books are never short of magical. With fantastical beings and adventure waiting around every corner, readers will find at least one character that they want to know more about.

It is inevitable–you let your queen down and you become the hunted. For Dahlia, execution is not an option that she is willing to accept. As a dragon-shifting assassin, Dahlia finds an exit that leads to another world, one where she can hide from her own kind. Surviving among humans is comforting and becomes the norm for her after ninety or so years, until one dreadful night when a family is incinerated in their own home. Dahlia is called in as a consultant because she deals with the freaky cases. She is forced to work with the human police department against what may very well be a crime committed by another shifter from her world. How will she be able to work the case and cover up her secrets at the same time?! Well, for starters, trusting someone may come in handy but in a world full of humans who attack first and ask questions later, who can Dahlia trust?

Schneider is very creative and this story has a lot of originality. This installment is first in the series, which means that readers can fall into the pages without needing previous knowledge or back-stories. With nearly all world-building, fantastical creations, there is always a bit of confusion in the beginning. Everything is being explained, certain aspects are foreign and characters are difficult to empathize with. Further in the story, readers should find themselves gaining a clear–if not precise–understanding of the main focal point of the story. Character development is superb and the work is well written. If you are a reader of dark fantasy and science fiction, you may find that this story is something that will interest you.

A copy of this book was provided to Turning Another Page by Audiobookworm Promotions, but this in no way affects our honest opinion of the book or the review that has been written. We provide a four-star rating for Flash Point by C.L. Schneider.

I loved this book. I mainly like mysteries but if a blurb catches my eye then I will try something new and boy am I glad I did. This starts as a murder mystery, with the main character trying to track down the killer but at the same time protect the police assigned to the case from finding out the truth that she isn't human and neither is the killer. The story develops quickly and before you know it you are looking up the blurb for book two to see who makes it to the next book, well okay I did. You are also drawn into a world where Dragons shift and take on human form and a whole new world is created in front of your eyes. I love the way the author straddles both worlds and genres beautifully but at the same time makes it believe able or at least possible.. I really liked the characters and at points I was sat on the edge of my seat as each new twist came. There was a lot of mutilated bodies, fights scenes and action but I am off to start book two.
Shape-shifting assassin Dahlia Nite, cast out by her kind for being weak and damaged is doing her part to keep the humans of her adopted world safe from monsters, by hiding in the shadows. She has connections so when a friend gets a call asking for help on a strange and brutal case, he turns to Dahlia. Posing as a fire inspector Dahlia turns up to the crime scene and the first thing she smells is not burnt flesh but dragon. Can she track down who or what is responsible and at the same time stop the police from discovering something that could rock the world, the existence of monsters. The more the bodies pile up the hard it becomes to keep her secret. Just what do all the victims have in common? As the connection become more obvious the case becomes a lot more personal for Dahlia. So much so that she might just have to return to the world she ran away from a life time ago. To stop the killer she might just have to confront her past.
I liked the narrator and thought she really helped bring the story to life with all the different voices she used.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Imagine Buffy the Vampire Slayer as half dragon and her scooby gang sidekicks a lot more grittier doing a crossover with Sam and Dean Winchester of Supernatural and you have a slight idea of the devilish evil fun that is Nite Fire: Flash Point Book One by.C.L. Schneider.

Dahlia Nite has been in the human world about 100 years after escaping death as a kick ass assassin in her underworld of various demons. She has led a nomadic life so that no one will suspect her supernatural abilities such as super strength, forever young, oh yeah, and shape shifting into a fierce fire breathing dragon!

Now she has made her way back to the one city where she feels a sense of home and where a string of brutal unsolved murders lead her to the realization that her two worlds are colliding and she will need help and all her strength to fight the walking evil on human soil.

What I really enjoyed in this story was the very real murder thriller that was a part of the urban fantasy world building that the author created so effortlessly. I was hooked by the murder thriller aspect and than fell in love with Dahlia and her makeshift crew. This book is gritty, violent, heart stopping but also exciting, thrilling and filled with humor. Seeing the tough show off guys at the gym floored by Dahlia's workout skills was pure delight.

I am a huge DC and Marvel comic book fan and this human saving female superheroine dragon would fit right in with The Justice League or The Avengers. Disney needs to option this series ASAP!

Though this fantasy is not for everyone it is for anyone who loves dragons, supernatural worlds, beautiful super power heroines and a motley crew trying to save the world. It can be read as a stand alone but does not have to be because there are more books already done.

I received a free copy of this book from the Blackthorn Book Tours for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

I felt like it was destiny for me to pick this book up to read because it's about a half dragon, half human, red-headed woman... and I just so happen to be a red headed woman with the maiden name of "Dragon"! :)

Dahlia, the dragon half-breed, has to leave her world when she is slated for execution after hesitating to kill a child witnessing her assassinate a mark. That hesitation sets her on a course to the human realm, running from retrievers and keeping humans safe from creatures of other realms for almost a hundred years. She goes back to the city of Sentinel, where she first came out of her realm, and tries to start over, again. While she is there a string of hideous murders happen and don't show signs of stopping anytime soon. Dahlia teams up with the police to steer their investigation away from what she knows is attacks by her own. As she battles within herself with what she was raised to know, to what she now knows, she is torn. Can she come to terms with the two halves of herself in time to protect dragons and humans? Can she learn to trust others, even as she finds out the truth behind her escape and exile?

I really enjoyed this read! It kept me turning the pages to find out what happened next. I rooted for Dahlia to figure out what was happening as I suspected that some of her friends were not truly her friends. All the characters were likable and well developed, in my opinion. I loved the ones I was supposed to and highly disliked the bad guys. The world building was fantastic! I felt like I was experiencing other realms in my mind.

As a first book goes, it was intriguing and gut-wrenching at times. It set up a world that I want to know more about and can't wait to continue reading the series. My hope is that as it continues, more information is given about the dragon world, the Guild, and their "exits" to other worlds! Looking forward to reading more!
