Isadora Moon #1

Isadora Moon. Primo giorno di scuola

Rate this book

A bedtime read with my 3 year old, that she enjoyed to the point of acting it out all through our family holiday!

What a breath of fresh air Isadora Moon is to the 5-8 category. A great representation of the ability to be different while not compromising on 'girly-ness'. Isadora's stories are funny and charming, and the artwork inside is just beautiful.

Can't wait to check out the rest of the series!

Poželjela sam čitati nešto lepršavo i odlučila upoznati Izadoru Moon. Preslatka ideja i divni crteži su me osvojili odmah. Njezina različitost, kombinacija vile i vampira je savršeno nesavršen spoj. Svoja i posebna mora pronaći put kojim će ići, školu koju će pohađati.

4.5 STARS I adore these Isadora Moon books! They are so charming and fun. The illustrations are full of the most darling details that always make me smile. The stories are well-written, the characters all feel well-drawn.

This first book introduces us to Isadora's family and she receives the surprising news that she must start attending school. Her vampire father naturally thinks she will thrive in vampire school, while her fairy mother thinks she will adore fairy school. Isadora feels torn between the two, because she is both vampire and fairy. She loves some things that vampires do, and dislikes some. She likes some things fairies do, and dislikes some. She tries vampire school and fairy school for one day and doesn't feel like she fits in either place. Perhaps the human children, whom she's seen pass by their house on the way to human school, might help her find a place where she belongs.

Told with sweetness and humor, as well as touching earnestness, this book will likely resonate for many children who feel "different" or might help develop empathy in the child who needs to welcome someone who perhaps feels that he or she doesn't quite fit in.

Not what I usually pick up, but I want to read loads more books aimed at children.

Half fairy, half vampire, Isadora Moon is given the choice by her fairy mother and vampire father to go either to fairy school or vampire school. She can't decide if she's one or the other. But whatever she is, Pink Rabbit, her best friend, is going with her.

Here's the story:

She tries both schools, first learning wand waving, dancing and making wreaths at fairy school. It doesn't go so well. She bungles her attempt to magic up a cake by making a carrot that grows bat wings and gets bigger and bigger; she's made to wear a tutu in dance class that isn't her favourite black one but instead is fairy-approved pink (which she hates) and makes her dance badly; and while out collecting plants for flower garlands she mistakenly forages a sacred mushroom that makes her skin turn red. Thinking she's really more of a vampire than a fairy, she sleepily goes to vampire school, which takes place at nighttime. She learns to fly, to train bats and groom herself. It doesn't go so well either. Unlike the other vampires, she has wings, but when they all go flying together, everyone else is really fast except Isadora, who just flaps about and crashes into the others; after a break for tomato juice (which she hates), Pink Rabbit wants to play and Isadora's bat, which she's failing to train, gets bored and flies out of an open window with all the other pupil's bats, angering the teacher; and finally, during grooming class, Isadora's wild fairy hair won't be tamed into a slick straight shiny perm like all her peers. She decides she's not a proper vampire or fairy, and is left with the same problem of working out who or what she is.

Then one day she see's the regular school children who pass her house everyday beckon her over to talk to her. They really like her. She decides she wants to go to human school, where her differences are very much admired and appreciated. I love this positive message it ends on. It's a really sweet, funny story.

So adorable! A really fun little chapter book with cute/spooky pink and black illustrations. I could totally relate to Isadora as someone who also loves both cute things and spooky things... I'd definitely like to collect the rest of this series.

So cute! Lucia enjoyed this *almost* as much as Franny k. Stein. Isadora's dad is a vampire and her mom is a fairy, which makes her half of both. She tries out vampire school and Fairy school but doesn't fit in either place. Where does she belong?!

A Gabriela deu cinco estrelas.

For a children's book, this unexpectedly ended up quite entertaining.

I liked Isadora's childishness and the way she discovers her own identity. When she didn't fit in either fairy or vampire school, I was eager to find out which one she would choose but she made her own path and went for an all humans school.

It gave me hope and this was a feel good book with adorable illustrations.

This is such a sweet, funny, quirky chapterbook about the value of being different - as shown through the story of a vampire fairy with an animated stuffed bunny, a vampire dad and a fairy mum. I checked out the (wonderfully narrated) audiobook from the library for my 7-year-old, and by the end of the first chapter, he'd already begged me to buy the first full audio collection for him from Audible, to keep. I wouldn't be surprised if we end up buying the paperback editions too, because the art we've seen (in online previews) is so adorable! A really great find for our family.

Isadora Moon isn't like other children, she's half vampire, half fairy. Her dad is a vampire and Isadora loves flying at night and she likes bats. Her mother is a fairy and therefore Isadora also likes the day, spending time outside in the sunshine. She loves her pink rabbit and cute baby sister. It's time for Isadora to go to school, which school should she choose, a school for vampires or a school for fairies? Isadora goes to both vampire and fairy school to see which of the two she likes best. Where will she feel most at home?

Isadora loves pink and black, she has a pink bunny that accompanies her everywhere, Pink Rabbit, she likes bats, she has unruly black hair and everything about her is a mix of vampire and fairy. That makes her special and like nobody else. She's cute with her fangs, and pink and black and white clothes. She's friendly and sweet and unique, so the question is where she'll fit it. Every child that goes to school has to deal with making new friends and being part of a group and Harriet Muncaster smartly uses this as a theme for her first Isadora Moon story, which makes the story both fun and easy to relate to.

Harriet Muncaster's artwork is stunning. I loved every drawing in this beautiful Isadora Moon book. The combination of pink and black works very well and it makes the story come to life in a fantastic vibrant way. Each drawing perfectly suits the writing. Harriet Muncaster is talented in many different ways and her stories are bursting with creativity. Isadora Moon Goes to School put a big smile on my face, it's a wonderful story and I highly recommend it.
