Tonya Heart was born with two strikes against her; one being a drug addicted mother who would rather coddle a crack-pipe than nurture her own child and two, an absentee father whom she wouldn’t recognize if she passed him on the streets. A victim of circumstance and deemed to be another poverty-stricken statistic, the odds were stacked against her and the hand Tonya was dealt since birth- displayed little to no hope. However, despite the forces against her and her lack of resources, Tonya managed to shuffle the deck and flip the cards in her favor. She learned to survive in the grimy streets of Chicago and gave herself a life her parents never could. Although she was the product of two beautiful disasters, there was a silver lining amongst the dark clouds; her grandmother and when she sees Tonya swaying in the wrong direction, she decides to step in. Determined not to lose her granddaughter to the streets, she ships her off to Atlanta with the hope of Tonya staying on the “straight and narrow”. But like a moth to a flame, Tonya seems to attract trouble and before long she’s caught in a twisted and deadly web that sends her running for comfort, in the only city she’s ever truly called home.
Back in Chicago things are finally looking up as Tonya learns the truth about the man whom help conceive her and discovers he left her a small fortune. After all her pain and trials, Tonya finally feels she’s living the life she deserves. But when a new man forces his way into her world, will Tonya lose everything she’s gained, including her sanity? Or will the stranger help her become an even better woman? In Black Tonya, discover what happens when one woman’s dirty-little-secrets and family affairs catch up with her; and witness how that same woman’s determination to survive, led her down a path of pain, love, deceit and so much more. This African American, urban-romance by Patrice Balark and presented by Cole Hart, will keep you flipping pages from start to finish and leave you in shock.
That ending tho! I can't believe that it ended like that. I did not see that coming. Poor Tonya just couldn't catch a break. She has gone through so much on her young life. Every time she overcomes one obstacle, and things seem to be back on track, something else is thrown in her path. I hope that things get better for her in part 2, and that Tone gets what he deserves. He made me wanted to choke him until his eyes popped out for the way that he treated her.
Wow! 1st read by Patrice Balark. This was an exciting story as Tonya's life seemed to change overnight. Characters interesting & full of drama! Jazz was a great role model to Tonya, much better than her mother...Tone was evil. I was hoping Tonya would hang in there with Chris. Ending was surprising & totally unexpected! Looking forward to next part
1st time reading this author. I enjoyed the storyline and the characters. The story kept my attention. I had to know what would happen next. That ending surprised me. The only bad thing about the book was errors. That takes away from the story. I will read the next book though.
She has a crack head mom and never really had her father in her life, and had an aunt that took her in but really didn't like her. She has an affair with her aunts boyfriend and gets pregnant and has a miscarriage, she goes home when she finds out her dad died, her life gets better from that time on until she runs into her ex lover and finds out that he has aids, does she have it also, have to read part 2
Tonya done been to the hospital a few times so I don't this is going to be her next part of life for her. I want to see the old Tonya come back though surviving by any means necessary cause Tone has to go. Let's see how things turn out for her and Chris. I love that her dad never forgot her or left her out. Him and Jas put her on. This was so good can't wait for part 2
Black Tonya was dealt messed up had, but she played it to the fullest. Tone needs mental help. Chris is nice fit for Tonya. I hope Dre didn't mess up her young life. I feel that Dre is a pedophile and preyed on Tonya because 17 is not an adult. Part 2 needs to drop soon. Great work Patrice Balark
Great page turner.. Tonya endured alot from the different men in her life. I think maybe her and Monte could have had a decent relationship if she hadn't ran off. But Chris was a real gentlemen. I hope that he doesn't get caught up in any mess with Tonya. Tone was just abusive and crazy. Then that ending honey, l hope she doesn't have Aids.
Great read from start to finish . all the men in her life seems to have hurt this young girl some way shape or form even her mom wasn't about nothing. That paved the way for this girl troubled life. Then grimy dre and his mess . real life situations
This is my first read from this author and I was impressed! Seeing the journey and transformation Tonya had from the beginning of the story through to the cliffhanger ending, I was engulfed in her story the entire time. The character development was well executed.
This book was good it held my attention from the very first page. My heart goes out to Tonya it seem like she could never catch a break. The ending was crazy. I'm definitely reading part 2.
This book makes you want to reach out and shake sime sence into them. Some people just dont think. Great read about to read book 2. I highly recommend rhis series. Enjoy
The book was dragging at first but it was truly good. Tonya going though a lot at a young age. Tonya has a good Grannie right along side her father's wife. Her own fashion line. Can't wait to read pt 2
Baby naw now I know it ain’t so. This is my first book by her and she she gained a fan. I read this book in a day. I’m truly amazed at the way this story flowed. But that ending got me mad as ever!!!
Omg!! Dre dropped a real bomb, I hope Tanya is safe. I also hope Tone gets what he deserves, with his double standards. Chris seems to be the one I hope he’s not on any bs.
Yess this series was excellent...Tonya bossed up on and any everybody that was hating on her...she went for the bottom and made it to the top...Great series
I really like this book!! It read like a movie script because you could see every scene and every character so clear!!! I can't wait to read the second one!!!
While reading this I kept thinking about how stupid Tonya is but then I have to remember how old she is. I hope she is good. Don't need nothing pulling her back down.
