Sex and Sweet Tea #1

Ain't He Precious?

Rate this book
Welcome to Whynot, North Carolina, population 3,872. It has one stoplight, one bar, and the one-and-only Trixie Mancinkus.

Eleven years ago, Trixie graduated Harvard Law, turned down a job offer from one of the most prestigious law firms in Boston, and headed home to Whynot to open her own firm. Not only did she leave behind the big city, but she also left her boyfriend of three years. And just so we’re clear… that would be me.

So what am I doing in Whynot at this very moment? It seems Trixie needs help with a legal case and for some insane reason, she called on me for assistance. I’ve been in town for five minutes, and I’m every bit as out of place as I feel. Trixie is all sweet, southern curves to my tailored suits and high-priced haircuts. It’s a culture clash of north versus south and about the only thing we have in common is our physical attraction to each other.

But I have a new motto since coming to Whynot: When life hands you lemons, all you need is a little sex and sweet tea to make things better.

Ry has always been my biggest regret, but it’s not a fixable one. I have my life here, he has his back in Boston, and those lives are firmly entrenched.

AIN’T HE PRECIOUS is a slow building sweet and light-hearted tale of a once in a lifetime love and second chances. Get ready to be charmed by the quirky inhabitants of the small town of WhyNot, North Carolina. This book is definitely a change from the steamy stories that Sawyer Bennett normally writes but I found it to be quite enjoyable. It would be a perfect book to sit out on your porch with on a warm Spring day with a pitcher of Sweet Tea by your side!

Trixie Mancinkus and Ry Powers met and fell madly in love during their three years at Harvard Law School. They had both applied and were hired as lawyers for a prestigious law firm in Boston, but at the last minute, Trixie decides to move back home to Whynot, North Carolina. Neither she nor Ry were willing to compromise or to find a way to make things work between them, so they ended up going their separate ways. Now, eleven years later, Trixie has reached out to Ry and asked him to come down to Whynot to help her with a high profile lawsuit, but maybe she also has an ulterior motive for connecting back up with Ry. She has never been able to move on from the relationship she once had with Ry.

 photo CityBoy_zpsa5mhj9mn.jpg

Ry doesn’t hesitate at the chance to help out Trixie. He recently broke up with his girlfriend of two years and if he were to be completely honest, no other woman has ever come close to capturing his heart as Trixie had so long ago. The moment these two are in each other’s presence again, the sparks are fiercely ignited between them. So now that they realize that the love they shared is still as strong as ever, how will their relationship be able to survive this time when their lives are still in two different States? Have they matured enough to see what truly matters in life or will they continue to be stubborn and put their own selfish needs first before their relationship?

Ain't He Precious is Sawyer Bennett's first novella written as Juliette Poe and her first in a sweet contemporary series. I'll read anything SB writes, no matter what name it's under, and I've yet to read one of her stories and not liked it. This book may have been a lot different than her others, hence the name change, but it was still just as captivating and enjoyable.

The relationship between Ry and Trixie was very slow moving but it was still full of sexual tension that will have you yanking at your shirt collar. Even after not seeing each other for years their love for one another was still there and it was amazing to see them discover that for themselves. I really liked these two characters together and getting to watch them fall for each other again put a smile on my face.

Overall, this book was super easy and fast read and something I'd recommend for anyone looking to sink their teeth into some sugary sweetness. Full of swoon worthy moments, this is not a story you should pass up.

4 A Second Chance For The Only Love Stars
* * * * Spoiler Free-It's Now Free!!!
First loves can be so wonderful...and they can also be so frustrating, too. Especially when they aren't just an intense infatuation or lustful experience. When it is those kinds of "firsts," yes it can be difficult when they end... but you are able to learn from it, live through it and move on.

No, truly first loves that have all the makings of forever....those that do not have the HEA each person thinks is going to happen...Those are the ones which leave their mark. Those are the ones we think about in the dead of night...wondering if the right decision was made when you walked away...

This is the theme of Ain't He Precious by Juliette Poe.
Now to understand the making of this novella, it is important to know Juliette Poe is Sawyer Bennett. This is a project where the books have all the meat and grit of a Bennett but not the explicit sexuality. The key is explicit. You will have the sensual flavor but done in a sweeter softer way. After reading this book, all of it felt exactly right...just the right amount of humanity, folksy, caring and charm.

One of the main features is the way the author packs in all of the atmosphere, community, main characters and their family ties and the town of Whynot, North Carolina. From the start you are immersed in Southern ways, Family ways and Small Town Ways.

The main focus is Trixie Mancinkus. This woman is unique in so many ways. She comes from a family who has ties to Whynot going back to 1742. Her mother, a nurse, grew up on this farm and she fell for a man, a Marine with roots in Pittsburgh, who was of Polish and Lithuanian decent. These two fell hard for each other and when the time was finally right...The Husband gave in and went to live in the home town of the wife.

This was how the Mancinkus family united with the long standing Mainer family and how Trixie was one of their five children. Now here is where the unique comes in...Trixie, a product of this combination of genes, had the spirit to venture out of Whynot and study the law. She was always curious and her Pap, Grandfather on her Dad's side, encouraged her at every turn. Pap was someone she was extremely close with and they had a very special bond. He wasn't surprised when she studied hard and got into Harvard... he, like the rest of her family was proud.

It was at Harvard where she met Ry Powers. There they were, perfect for each other...they had the same goals..to be the best in their classes and become the top of the legal field. They worked hard together and it made falling hard for everything about the other easy. Trixie was nothing like anyone Ry had met and Ry was everything for Trixie.

Ry came from Chicago. His family was fine... nothing untoward...they were close in a distant way. Ry loved Trixie with all of his might and through the 3 years of their schooling and pathway to their legal careers, they talked about them both going for it...applying and making the cut at the most prodigious law firm in Boston.

The Dye was cast...they were going to live in Boston, work at this firm, become successful attorneys and be happy together....

But that didn't happen...Trixie and Ry had a "Failure to Communicate" and Trixie came back to Whynot and Ry went on to become a valuable partner at the firm.

We are introduced to all of this 11 years later... first by Pap Mancinkus. He gives us a necessary overview of all things Mancinkus, Mainer and Whynot. He also is the "voice of reason" throughout this tale.

Trixie has called upon Ry to assist her with a case that needs his expertise. These two have not talked in 11 years and neither of them have had any serious relationships since the time they spent together.

In other words... those still waters run deep...and we are there to see how deep and whether they will be able to ride the undisputed current between them... or will they still have the roadblocks that kept them apart...

These two together are a hoot. They still have hot chemistry, fun and respect for each other. Each give their POV's to the situation and we benefit.

This novella was a delight. You were immediately swept into the mind frame of Whynot and the Mancinkus family. Trixie has a brother who broods over family heritage and there are twin sisters that are difficult to tell apart. We have lots of hints of things to come in other books and with the crafting we have experienced in this one... I cannot think of a reason not to jump in and become a fan of Whynot and Juliette Poe.

Absolutely delightful. Ain’t He Precious? is a charming story about sweet friendship and sexy love.
When life hands you lemons, all you need is a little sex and sweet tea to make things better.

When Trixie Mancinkus went back home to Whynot eleven years ago after finishing law school from Harvard, she didn’t just reject a job offer from one of the most respected law firms in Boston, she also ended her three year relationship with the love of her life. But after all these years when a legal case is giving her trouble, she doesn’t hesitate to call Rylan Powers. Will she rethink her long ago decision when the smart and sexy lawyer in shining tailored suit shows up to help her?
“Despite having a really good life the last eleven years… it could have been better with Ry. I let something amazing get away.”

Rylan Powers never understood why Trixie would not only turn down a job he thought was part of dream but also their relationship and their plans for a future together to go back to her small town barely enough people to warrant a single lawyer. But one look at his old flame and her relationship with her family and the townspeople is enough for him to want to give them another try. Can the big city man from the north find a way to be with the small town girl from the south who got away?

I love reading novellas. When well written their long enough to include and balance everything you need for a good read and their short enough to be quickly enjoyed. I’ll also love Sawyer Bennett books under any penname she uses. So Ain’t He Precious? is a great combination of both with is loveable characters, great plot, fast pace and the wonderful southern charm and hospitality of the little town it takes place in.

There were other things to appreciate about this story like Trixie’s meddling grandpa, her somber father, her warm and welcoming mother and amusing siblings. But what I liked most of all was the balance between all these elements and the easy, fun, sexy and deep relationship between Ry and Trixie.
“You two may have only been back together two days, but you both had eleven years neither one of you let go. That’s a long time to love someone.”

She’s a patient, smart, headstrong and confident southern woman who can curse and drink like sailor who values family above all. He’s gorgeous, charming, equally smart and witty. I enjoyed getting to know these two characters and being there with them as sparks fly as they rekindle their love for each other while facing their past in order to have a future.

This book make me wish I wasn’t a city slicker and had a front wraparound porch with a swing so I could sip sweet tea spiked with moonshine while reading it. I can’t wait to read more about this family and town.

Ain’t He Precious? is the first installment in the Sex and Sweet Tea series by Juliette Poe. It’s a feel good standalone contemporary romance, a cheerful novella that has everything you need to make you smile, swoon and get all the warm fuzzies. Told from both points of view and a happy ending and a prelude to the next story in the series.

Ain’t Sawyer Bennett precious? Well, her alter ego Juliette Poe surely is as she delivers one charming second chance love story in Ain’t He Precious? This novella was a sweet sticky molasses of love, family charm, second chances, and good old Southern hospitality.

photo bacb9b465225c18d38b506c830ff79_zps5h0jk5gi.gif My knees are pressed in tight against his hips, my fingertips digging down into his shoulders, and my heart skittering out of control. Not just because of the amazing physical sensations that are completely overwhelming me, but because I am connected to Ry Powers. My first love. My truest love.”

It’s no secret that I am huge Sawyer Bennett fan and so when I found out that she was writing as Juliette Poe, I knew regardless of whatever genre it is that I had to read it. And let me tell you ladies and gentlemen, this book is a good one. If you like your romance sweet, sentimental, and emotional then this book is definitely for you. Who wouldn’t want to read a feel good second chance love story?

#aintHeprecious

After graduating from Harvard Law School, Trixie Mancinkus gave up her chance to be a big time city lawyer and instead decided to move back home to Whynot, North Carolina to open up her small town practice. She loves her family and Southern roots so it was something she couldn’t bear to part with. While her career was something that she was deeply proud of, a part of her was missing.

Ryland Powers was the only man that Trixie loved. He was her everything but they had to go on their separate ways since they both wanted different things. He wanted to be a big city lawyer in Boston and Trixie wanted to be home with her family. So fast forward to eleven years later, Trixie needs Ryland to help her with a client and so she invites him to Whynot, North Carolina.

The feelings that Trixie and Ryland had for each other are still there. Eleven years couldn’t erase their feelings and love for each other but with Ryland living in Boston, will Trixie be able to leave her family, her hometown, and her practice behind in order to be Ryland? And will Ryland will be able to leave his city life for small town farm life?

photo bacb9b465225c18d38b506c830ff79_zps5h0jk5gi.gif But after eleven years of living what I felt was a magnificent existence, one magical moment with Ry has me questioning everything I thought I knew about myself.”

Ain’t He Precious? was indeed precious. This book was a sugary goodness of sweet tea. Once you had a taste of this book, you can’t help but want more or in this case drink more of Juliette Poe’s swoonworthy Southern love story. Ryland and Trixie’s second chance at love made my heart burst with so much love. I absolutely adored this book because not only did Juliette Poe allowed readers to feel the growth of her characters but she allowed readers to fall in love with a precious love, bond, and connection. So if you are looking for a story where the love is sticky as molasses and the characters are charming as hell then I suggest you better be clicking Ain’t He Precious?

I came home yesterday absolutely EXHAUSTED—drained, tired, and just craving some comfort. All I wanted was to put on my comfiest clothes, curl up with my Kindle, and escape into a good book.

And I couldn’t have picked a better one.

Ain’t He Precious? (Sex and Sweet Tea) by Juliette Poe was exactly what I needed.

First off, I’m a HUGE fan of novellas! They’re perfect when you want to finish a book in one sitting without worrying about staying up too late. From start to finish, this one was just PERFECT.

On top of that, Ain’t He Precious? was absolutely ADORABLE and PRECIOUS! It had the perfect mix of sweetness and sass. The characters were wonderful, the plot was well-developed, and the charming little Southern town setting had me completely hooked. I already know there’s so much more to come, and I can't wait!

Trixie Mancinkus and Ryland Powers were once in love in law school, their future all planned out—until Trixie had second thoughts. She moved back to her hometown to become the town’s only lawyer and be closer to her family, while Ry moved to Boston to work at the firm they’d both dreamed of.

Eleven years later, when Trixie reaches out for help on a tricky case, Ry drops everything and heads to North Carolina.

Reuniting after all these years felt like a homecoming for both of them. They quickly realized what they had back then, what was lost, and what truly mattered in life. The chemistry, banter, and feelings between Ry and Trixie were as strong as ever.

I absolutely loved Grandpa Mancinkus and his meddling ways—they’re far from over, and I can’t wait to see what he gets up to next.

I adored the entire Mancinkus family. From their Southern hospitality to fishing at night, shooting snakes, and sipping moonshine, I had an absolute blast reading this book. And I’m thrilled to know there’s so much more to discover about this wonderful family.

Ain’t He Precious? was a light-hearted, feel-good read. It was fast-paced without sacrificing plot depth or character development. The bond between the main characters felt real and genuine.

This book was beautiful, emotional, and sweet—it truly couldn’t have been any better!

It’s the kind of romance that leaves you feeling all warm and gooey inside.

Well done, Juliette Poe! I’ll definitely be reading more of your books in the future!

Juliette Poe aka Sawyer Bennett brings readers a new series Sex and Sweet Tea; set in and around the town of Whynot, Carolina, population 3,872.

First up is Trixie Mancinkus; town lawyer, and general all round good egg. Her story is very much a second-chance reconnection, when she summons her first love and high powered big city Lawyer, Ryland Powers to town to help her with her current case, the eleven years they have been apart melt away in an instant as soon as they set eyes on each other again.

"Ain’t you a sight for sore eyes..?"

To be honest there isn’t a huge amount I have to say about Aint’ He Precious?, it very much falls into the 'didn’t love it, didn’t hate it' category, this is a couple with history which meant we got to the love and sex pretty quickly, it was very much low-drama and we were introduced to the rest of the Mancinkus family in the telling of their getting back together.

I missed having him around more than I realized…

Dual POV gives you the progression from both sides, and we even get a few side chapters where family matriarch Pap Mancinkus gives his octogenarian take on things…

"You were born to live here. This is where you’re supposed to be."

Being novella length there wasn’t a huge amount of depth to their story, but then their pasts were already there so it wasn’t hugely needed, the rest of the Mancinkus siblings were also bought into the tale, and I am sure they will all get their own books at some point in the future. The authors writing was its usual easy to get along with style, I just missed the spark of continued interested that I usually feel when reading her books.

The only man I’ve ever given my entire self to-heart, body and soul…

It you have a couple of hours free and you are looking for a stress-free easy to get along with read, then this one fits that bill perfectly.

4,5 stars! Lovely small town second chance romance! It's not long but very great new side of Sawyer Bennett as Juliette Poe. What is the difference? I think it is more cute and less erotic.

About the plot: Trixie is a Harvard educated layer, but instead of a brilliant career, she chose to return to her hometown, where she can represent Whynot's people. It surprised her then-boyfriend and the only great love, Ryland Powers. They wanted different things from life and decided to go different ways. Not without broken hearts.

“There was something off in the timing of it all, and we both had things that were just a bit more important to us than the relationship.”

Eleven years later when she needs help in a case, decides to reach to him. The big-city boy comes to her little town to help and perhaps get a closure, but none of them expect their feelings to be as vivid as ever.

“Trixie was born to be a shooting star that would sizzle, pop, and burn brightly on any given day, and that’s what I remember best about her.”

Final thoughts: It's a lawyers in love, second chance, southern small town romance. I liked it alot and had a smile on my face throughout the reading. Trixie is a funny and feisty heroine. There are also great scenes when the city boy learns how life looks at the south. Lot of laugh!

“You are absolutely freakin’ precious, Ryland Powers.”

Trixie and Ry have a great chemistry but they have only brief erotic moments. It's still sexy just less descriptive but I'm sure that it doesn't make such a big difference. Because it is very well written and you can easily fall in love with this southern Mancinkus family. I can not wait for her brother Lowe story. Some seeds of his history were planted and it promises to be hilarious.

Incredible was the idea of eighty-one grandfather pov. For that he has Lithuanian and Polish roots (I'm Polish) and it was fun to read about Polish food and read Polish words in the book. Thanks for this Sawyer! He also had some wise words to say to our heroes in this story.

“You two may have only been back together two days, but you both had eleven years neither one of you let go. That’s a long time to love someone.”

I don't know what the phenomenon of Sawyer Bennett is, but she never disappoint me. For which her book I wouldn't reach, I always have a fantastic time. This time it was no different.

3.25 -Not enough D in the V for this pervert- Stars

Yes, I had to read every detail about the charm and definition of southern American lifestyle including the people, food, atmosphere, buildings, drinks, town politics, family life etc. I didn't even skim any of those parts because: 1) it was written engagingly, and 2) I believed that the payoff for my patience would come in steaming, hot nookie... but instead; I got washed-over snippets and teases that practically screamed: "use your own imagination" *insert Veruca Salt pout*.... no orgasmic climaxes, no quivering loins, no elicit deets... just enough hints and droplets to keep a pervert like me from screaming bloody murder.

Aside from what I consider to be tame steam; this was a very cute and pleasant book that had me feeling like I was reading an enjoyable chick-lit. I didn't feel the sizzle and heat coming from the MC's, however, they were both likeable and as inoffensive as regular apple pie. Honestly, if I wasn't such a depraved, dirty perv; I probably would have enjoyed this sweet story much more!

I am curious to read about the h's brother's story, so I'll be checking out book #2 in this series when it's released. Fingers crossed, Jewelsy actually gets some Ds in that one! (please Ms Author, give Jewelsy the D). Told in dual POV, with snippets of the h's grandpa's POV at the beginning, middle and end. Ended in a quickie HFN but readers will definitely see more of this couple as the series continues. Highly recommended to lovers of sweet, novella type, chick lit with some luke warm steam.

Sweet southern second chance…

I love it when two lovers who have parted ways are able to reconnect and work through their unresolved baggage. It’s like spring-cleaning for the heart! Trixie and Ry loved and planned until everything changed almost overnight. Not sure how, not sure why, but they did. Years later, they are reunited over a case, this time litigating in a small hometown that speaks of old-fashioned charm and family. Reconciling the past, navigating the present and maybe (maybe?) plotting a future, this novella packs all the good things in one irresistible package!

“I feel like I’ve stepped back into an old re-run of Andy Griffith or something.”

Roots, family, love. So many stories (thankfully) have them but perhaps not as eloquently, or down home poetically, as articulated in this much too short novella. Trixie and Ry used to be friends and lovers and you can see that as they are reunited. What they loved about each other is easy to see and seeing them rediscover it is a treat! I wanted the conversations and the trysts to go on a lot longer as they tussled, talked and sizzled together. And they’re not alone…

“The people in this town are nuttier than squirrel shit.”

Oh yes, they are! They are also funny, all kinds of quirky and totally loveable! From crusty judges to even more cranky (and crazy) relatives, Trixie’s family and friends had me laughing hard. SO hard!

They all came together in a story that crackled and popped from the first page to the last. This series starter made my heart beat faster and now it yearns for more Sex and Sweet Tea! -Diane, 5 stars

How is it, that in just under 100 pages, this author can completely BLOW ME AWAY?! I went into this not knowing what to expect. Well, that's not really true because HELLO! It's Sawyer Bennett for crying out loud. Just because she is writing under a pen name doesn't take away how INCREDIBLE her writing is. Yes, it's VERY different from what we are used to with Bennett's writing, but it's no less special at all! I call it, the sweeter side of SEXY! I know, classy right? But it's true. EVERYTHING about this book had me hooked - the brilliantly colored book cover, the intriguing book title, that enticing synopsis. From the moment this landed on my kindle, there was no going back!

Trixie Mancinkus, what a name right? She is our heroine in this love story. And boy is she quite a handful. I ADORED her right away. Her vibe was beautiful and sweet and I just knew the hero of this story had absolutely NO chance! That brings me to Ryland, our city boy hero. LOVED HIM to pieces! The moment these two reconnected, sparks flew off of the pages. It's the perfect love story...small town southern beauty and the city boy who got away. Together again, and nothing will stop the pull that these two have in spades. Trixie and Ryland couldn't make it work in law school. They wanted different things. Years later, and what's really changed? They can try to fight it, but in the end, it was always meant to be. Time is on their side, even though the miles between them is not. Is the love that they reignited, strong enough to keep them together this time?

The only thing I could say after finishing AIN'T HE PRECIOUS? was I WANT MORE! I'm loving the Juliette Poe side of Sawyer Bennett. It's different. It's beautiful. It's emotional. It's EVERYTHING. This is how ROMANCE IS DONE! This is what will keep me coming back for MORE!

MY MY MY! I got to say I love the alter ego of Sawyer Bennett – I always love her writing style and her stories so there is no surprise that I would fall in love with this book. Juliette Poe writes sweeter but still hot and sexy contemporary romance. There is something about love in a small town and in this case with a hard dose of southern charm that just makes me go weak at the knees.
Trixie and Ryland were college sweethearts. They have plans of working for a big law firm after Harvard and building a life together in the big city. Right before they graduate Trixie has a change of heart - she tells Ryland she wants to move back to her home town of Whynot, population 3,872. Ryland is not a small town boy and is heart-broken as they part ways. At the time he doesn’t understand the real reason Trixie moves home.

Fast forward 10 years, Trixie finds herself in a high profile case. She believes with Ryland’s big name and experience she will have a better chance of winning. Trixie asks Ryland to come to Whynot and he agrees. Trixie and Ryland always love each other. The feelings never change and seeing Ryland brings back all the love and affection they have for each other at full force. How will Trixie choose this time? Will she choose love over staying near family in the town she grew up in? Or will Trixie give it all up this time for the only man who has her heart? Will Ryland be able to move to a small town knowing Trixie’s deep love for her town and family?

I love everything about this book. Trixie is headstrong, confident, vibrant, and honest – what you see is what you get. Ryland – oh swoony Ryland is all sexy, intelligent, kind, and a total package. The story is set in a charming small town and the people in it are full of kindness and heart. I love the banters and interactions between all characters – witty and hilarious. Ain’t He Precious is truly charming, sweet and heart-warming. This book is not just about romance between lovers but also about the deep love for friends and family in a close-knit small town, which is quite rare these days. I find the story very refreshing, light hearted, fun, genuine and just gorgeous. I just wish it was longer because I was totally addicted to it - You will too . I cannot wait for the story on Lowe. BRAVO Juliette Poe! I adore the sweet and romantic side of you.

I really was pleasantly surprised. I was expecting some sweet - slightly lame - romance. No idea why. But that's what I was thinking going in.
And it was a sweet romance. But it was so not lame. It was adorable!
Such a sweet and cute and perfect second chance love story!
Those two never fell out of love during those eleven years!!!!
Even though ... if it was me, I would've come knocking ages ago. How can you love someone for 14 years and just go on living without ever trying to win them back???
Anyway - the way Ry and Trixie finally got back together was really sweet.
Everything is sweet in that town!
Trixie's grandpa is this adorable ex marine who gets his own POV every once in a while - he finally wants his granddaughter settled with the love of her life!
And Trixie's whole family is awesome. There are lots of siblings with interesting stories to tell - for future books in the series. Lowe will be next! He'll be falling for the b**ch who bought the old family house in town! ☺☺

This was a great & precious & moving & perfect southern romance, about the cutest town and its people! I loved it! I just wished it would've been a bit longer!

I had some tiny problems with the writing...as with every Sawyer book. It's Sawyer's and my thing ☺ It's only me who has those problems with her writing. So please don't be worried or just scroll down and don't read the following...
I have a HUGE AS problem! Sawyer always uses too much of those ☺ You know the AS's I'm talking about? The AS that could be and should be exchanged for a SINCE or BECAUSE - or even a ;☺ It's a British thing (if it's a thing at all!) and it doesn't have anything to do in an american book by an american author!
I really don't want to insult Sawyer. I love all her books, and maybe nobody ever told her she does that.... Sawyer....please stop doing it. But pfff who am I to tell her what to do, so just forget I said anything! It doesn't stop her books from being great!

Also - even though I knew going in that it was a sweet little romance...I missed the sexiness. It's done like that on purpose of course, but I don't like that fading-to-black thing once we get naked! ☺ ... BUT ...
AIN'T HE PRECIOUS was such an adorable & sweet second-chance love stoy! Run to your nearest amazon for your own Ry - this one is MINE - and the whole town btw. is MINE too!!!! ☺

Well, I declare!  NYTimes best-selling author, Sawyer Bennett has gone down south and gotten herself an alter ego!  She’s writing as Juliette Poe, in a new series that’s sweeter than pee-can pie.  Set in a Mayberry-esque setting, this novella casts Ryland Powers, one of those highfalutin’ Harvard-trained big city attorneys,  and Trixie Mancinkus, homegrown small town southern lawyer (and Harvard Law grad, herself), in a second chance romance trope.  Told in first person point of view by three different characters, it’s a southern charmer that’s sure to have you swooning.

She’s small town Whynot, North Carolina, and he’s big city Boston, Massachussetts.  She went her way and he went his.  Now she wears cut-off jean-shorts, tees and flip-flops to work, while he’s dressed to the nines in designer suits and ties.  Sounds simple enough, right?  But there’s a whole lot more to Trixie and Ry’s story.

They met at Harvard Law School, dated for three years, and even made plans for a future together.  But after being in the east for several years, Trixie missed her small southern town, and the family and friends who live there.  Ry scooped up a high-profile job with a prestigious firm right out of law school, and couldn’t see himself giving it up to live in a one-stoplight podunk town. After they parted ways, they licked their wounds and moved on with their separate lives.  Eleven years have passed without any contact with the other — until Trixie sends out a SOS call for his help.

She needs a high-profile legal eagle for help on a personal injury legal case, and Ry fits that bill.  Even after learning her noble reasons, my only nitpick is that I found the timing a little far-fetched — seems like a very long time apart without ever talking, and then suddenly placing a call to your old lover.  Ryland is surprised – no doubt – but he is soon on a plane headed south to Whynot.  Waiting for him on the other end is a face-to-face with the girl who broke his heart, along with a huge dose of southern hospitality done up close and crazy.  It’s nothing like he’s ever experienced before.

In his POV, Paps Mancinkus introduces readers to the Mancinkus/Mainer family.  He and his granddaughter, Trixie, have always been particularly close and shared a special relationship — even as best friends.  Paps is worth the price of the book.  An ex-Marine, full of spit and vinegar, he owns the town’s only bar that sits right next door to Trixie’s law practice.  Paps is a Yankee transplant from Pennsylvania, who moved to Whynot to be near his son and family.  A little on the sly side, he may have a few tricks up his sleeve for members of the family, too.  Right now he’s working on a way to put the sparkle back in his oldest grandchild’s eyes. It’s been missing far too long – but he’s hoping that might change soon with the arrival of Trixie’s ex-boyfriend.

Pretty as a peach and sassy as all get-out, Patricia “Trixie” Mancinkus is headstrong and vibrant.  She doesn’t take crap from anybody, but she’s got a heart as big as they come.  She loves her hometown and its residents.  She’s devoted to her family.  Trixie’s smart as a whip and has her own law firm.  But Trixie’s heart has a crack right down the middle — one she’s hoping to mend.  She’s gonna make that boy hers again.  The girl’s got gumption in spades!

A typical city boy, Ryland Powers feels like a fish out of water around the Mancinkus clan.  Ry graduated in the top 1% of his law school class.  Got a job offer with a top Boston firm when he graduated, and now he’s making millions.  He’s a workaholic, but kind and loyal, well-mannered — and did I mention that he’s also a perfect package with dark hair and piercing blue eyes? And Heavens to Betsy, he’s falling for Trixie all over again!

There’s not one single “f-bomb” used by any of these characters, and I found the change, from what in my opinion has become an overuse, quite refreshing.  The chemistry is sizzling, yet sweet and loving.  The sex scenes are hot, but done tastefully, and in a rather “fade to private” sense.  From the moment they lay eyes on one another again, there’s no doubt that time did nothing to diminish the deep feelings and connection these two have for each other.  No blame games – no childish behavior – just calm and adult-like conduct – as these two come to the realization that what they share is real and powerful — and worth the effort on both their parts to make their lives full, happy and worthwhile together.  The past is just that: she’d done it her way and he’d done it his way, but now it’s their time.

With its large cast of colorful secondary characters and a lighthearted sugary story of family, romance, and second chances (including sweet tea with moonshine on the side), I loved each minute of this playful and high-spirited story.  A fishing trip with Paps where Ol’ Mud makes an appearance.  A little courtroom action to show off legal skills.  An encounter between a poisonous snake and a loaded pistol.  Great southern comfort food and lots of family & friends interaction.  And plenty of time for sweet lovin’ with office trysts, hotel hideaways, and even underneath mom and dad’s roof — all combined makes for some terrific entertainment.  Sometimes it’s a really good thing to take a little break from all those books filled with sex, angst and drama — and I reckon I found solace here.

I’m definitely onboard with the new alter ego named Juliette Poe.  And from the storm he’s blowin’ up, looks like bad boy, Lowe Mancinkus is up next telling his own tale.  Hope he can keep up with the great fun and lovin’ found on the 117 pages started here.  I smiled and laughed out-loud from start to finish.  You won’t stop hootin-n-hollerin for a happy ending for our southern miss and her citified prince.  Hell yeah – the whole darn shebang is just precious!

Ain't He Precious? was a sweet, fun and heartwarming second chance love story, I really enjoyed it.

The writing was well done, the storyline was entertaining, the characters Ry and Trixie were likable, funny and I enjoyed watching them reconnect after being apart for eleven years.
It was obvious from the first meeting these two still have deep feelings for each other.
They once walked away from the love they shared thinking at the time they couldn't make things work, but now they both know life without the other is not a life they want.
Question is can the city loving Ry and the family loving Trixie find a middle ground and make it work?
You'll have to pick this sweet romance up and find out for yourself ;)

So Sawyer Bennett took off her steamy, erotic hat and put on her sweet, adorable hat as Juliette Poe in Ain’t He Precious; a small town, second chance love story that was fun, sassy, and heart-warming. Eleven years after law school graduation and parting ways, ex-lovers are reunited when one needs help and a “big name” attorney to win the best settlement for her client. Written in first person and told from the perspective of the two main characters as well as the grandfather of the heroine (who she freely admits is her best friend), it was fascinating seeing their insight and thoughts as this story unfolded. A love story fourteen years in the making, Ain’t He Precious is a fantastic beginning to what promises to me an exciting and swoon worthy series.

Something readers need to understand about this series, it is set in North Carolina and it is southern to its roots. Whynot, North Carolina reminds me very much of Mount Airy, North Carolina where the Andy Griffith museum is located because that was his hometown and he said often that Mayberry reminded him of his hometown. In towns like these everyone knows your business, people look after one another, families go back for generations, many have worked the land or passed down businesses for decades and more, life is a bit laid back, and it is definitely slower paced. And even while delivering platitudes such as “bless your heart” and “ain’t he precious you’d never know those aren’t compliments because they are said so sweetly. There really is nothing like southern hospitality, but don’t think that makes southerners pushovers because nothing could be further from the truth and they have the shotgun to prove it. As Julia Sugarbaker, one of my favorite fictional southern women said, “No one in the south asks if you have crazy people in your family, they just ask which side of the family they are on.” In Trixie Mancinkus family only half of her family may be southern, but I’m pretty sure there’s crazy on both sides and her ex-lover, Ryland Powers, is about to find out all about the crazy!

Eleven years have passed since Trixie scrapped her plans of staying in Boston with Ry and working at a big prestigious law firm something Ryland still doesn’t understand and Trixie had a hard time explaining. She returned to Wynot to open her practice and help the people in her hometown, he went on to Boston and they both tried to repair their hearts which were torn in two and the minute they see one another again, it is evident the reason neither one has been able to move totally on is that even 11 years with no contact they still have deep feelings for one another.

I loved watching these two reconnect and the fact that they didn’t play the blame game about their break-up; they discussed it, the mulled it over, they realized at the time they did what was right for their own self and their careers, but the more time they spend in each other’s company they also realize that they need each other almost as much as they need air to breathe. These are mature adults and for the most part they act like it except when they realize they are ready to reconnect on a physical level and then it is almost comical.

This book set the series up nicely; we meet Trixie’s brothers and sisters, a few of the local town people and get a feel for the town and life in Whynot. I sincerely appreciated that while this couple had history the story wasn’t filled with drama and angst.

A feel good, sweet romance that will have you craving sweet tea, southern fried food and a shot of moonshine or two, I loved Ain’t He Precious!

I am a big fan of Sawyer Bennett and she tends to write various genres and I usually just blindly follow along. I am still not totally sure why she felt she wanted to write this series under a pen name since I think it does fall into her normal writing realm, but with that being said, this is definitely falls under her lighter, sweet, funny, and swoony side.

Trixie Mancinkus is the only lawyer in her tiny small Southern town of Whynot, NC. She is a bit unconventional, but she fits right into her quirky home town. She is smart, sassy, sweet, and patient, but can drink, curse, and fish as well as her brothers. She went to law school in Boston and was planning on staying there with her boyfriend, but she really felt the need to return to her roots and help people who needed it. So she left him in Boston, came home, broke both of their hearts, and never looked back.

Eleven years later, she is asking her old love, Ryland Powers, to come to Whynot to help on a case. He is now everything they planned on being in Boston...a successful, high-powered attorney with a tough reputation and a big income. And he is still handsome, charming, witty, and sexy.

It's North meets South again...Big city man vs. small town girl...and just like when they were in school, sparks are flying. There are also a lot of unresolved feelings under the surface. Their professional pairing leads pretty quickly to other kinds of pairing off. These two still have strong chemistry and a connection. They reopen all of the feelings and issues after all this time. But bottom line, they never really got over each other. Their feelings are strong, but their problems are still the same--he's a city boy thriving in Boston and she's a small town girl surrounded by love and support in NC. They are inherently different people with different lives. And they are both entrenched in their careers and locations. So really everything has changed, and nothing at all.

This is about both of them facing their pasts, but it is also an eye-opening experience for the work-a-holic, Ry. His explorations of Whynot are humorous and the vivid descriptions truly paint a picture of the small town and community. The town is full of quirky, strong-willed, and interesting characters with southern drawls and hospitality...well, if they are not wielding shotguns to protect their own. Whynot felt real. The characters made me smile. It made me want to sit out on the porch and drink sweet tea laced with moonshine with them.

This was a short, witty, sweet, and charming second-chance love story about family, home, and true love. It is low on angst and full of flirty banter, but not bogged down by lots of sex scenes. It is told in the points of view of Ryland, Trixie, and Pap. Her grandfather, Pap, is her best friend and he adds some comic relief and tough love. Trixie has a brood of brothers and sisters--Colt, Lowe, and twins, Laken and Larkin. Lowe's story has been teased a bit so I am looking forward to reading more about him and the other siblings. This is a delightful start to a new series oozing Southern charm, humor, romance, and a strong sense of community.

Cute short second chance read.

Trixie and Ry were fun to read about. Their storyline was interesting and I was definitely rooting for them from the beginning. The both characters were great but a bit annoying at times.

It was a good story but was lacking in something for me, I can't quite say what it was maybe it was me not being able to fully commit to the story, some parts just turned me off and I felt were unnecessary in a certain parts but other than that it was good.

I'd definitely attempt reading another book by this author.

A new series from Sawyer Bennett/Juliette Poe - let me at it!

Settle in with your ereader and a cup of sweet tea for this cute and sweet second chance romance.

Ain't He Precious kind of reminded me a little of that TV show Hart Of Dixie - I think it is just the small town southern thing there.

Trixie and Ry's story is full of sweet moments - though I had to shake my head at the pair of the, neither of them made a move to contact the other in over a decade? Pish! I wanted to slam their foreheads together to knock some sense into them!! But it does give us that will they won't they throughout the book.

I adore Trixie's family, particularly her grandpa Pap. He plays quite a big part in the story, with his POV occasionally thrown in. She also has lots of siblings whose stories we will get as the series grows. I have a feeling that her brother Lowe's story is going to be an interesting one.

This is a sweet, cute, sexy story about a beautiful southern town and the characters that make those towns so adorable. It is a quick read, and I wish I had more of it, but I am looking forward to the rest of the series.

This is the beginning of a series that I will definitely keep reading. The characters are fun and the town sounds like just the kind of place I want to visit from time to time.
Our story begins with our heroine. She is a great lawyer who decided to set up office in her hometown. When she needs some help with a case she calls her old boyfriend to bring in his own expertise with the law.
Years ago the two were very much in love. But when it came time to leave law school and set up their practices, he wanted the prestigious job in the city and she didn't. So she broke things off. When they meet again they both realize they are still in love, but how will they take care of the distance problem?
Good story with excellent characters.

This is such a fun, lighthearted read, which is totally a welcome change of pace! Sometimes you just need an honest-to-goodness, drama-free love story. Add in a little sassy southern humor, and you've got a winning combination!

Trixie and Ryland were a couple for all three laws they attended Harvard Law School, and had grand plans to accept matching job offers at a prestigious firm in Boston, get married, have babies, the whole shebang. But, then Trixie bailed on Ry and hightailed it back to her tiny hometown in North Carolina, leaving them *both* brokenhearted.

Fast forward eleven years, when Trixie calls Ry out of the blue for help on a legal case. Well, what's any good gentleman to do? Drop everything and fly down to North Carolina to help his ex-girlfriend he hasn't seen or spoken to in eleven years but not ever really stopped loving though he would never admit that to himself much less Trixie because he wouldn't want to put himself out there like that after she up and left him all those years ago. *DEEP BREATH*

Anywho, what unfolds when Ry heads on down to Whynot is a trip. Think Pap's who own the only bar in town, shotgun wielding townies, fishing for catfish, shotgun wielding brothers, lots of peach moonshine, and pistol wielding dads. Are you sensing a theme here? Let's just hope Ry survives his trip to Whynot, NC, with both his heart and his body intact.

Ryland Powers and Trixie Mancinkus had spent an inseparable 3 years, whilst at Harvard Law School. With big plans for the future together, they were both offered positions at a reputable Law firm in Boston. Their life was fully on course, until it wasn’t.

Eleven years later, Trixie is the main port of call for anything legal in the town of Whynot, North Carolina - population 3,872. Back in the bosom of her family, and far away from Boston…and Ry.

Ry receives a request for help from Trixie, which takes him from his big city Law Firm in Boston. He’s intrigued to know what she would require his assistance with, and equally hungry to learn what happened to their relationships sudden demise all those years ago.

This is a sweet, second chance romance from the alter ego of Sawyer Bennett. I was thoroughly entertained by the engaging Trixie and Ry, and gained a good grounding of the supporting network for the future shenanigans.

A great start to a new series, and a new author *thumbs up*

If you have read some of my reviews you'll know that I am a huge fan of Sawyer Bennett's so when I heard that she would be writing a book as Juliette Poe I couldn't wait to see what she had in store for us. I was totally ecstatic when I had the opportunity to get my hands on an advanced readers copy.

I really don't want to get into the comparisons of one book against another so I wont, but what I will tell you is that the story was sooooooo worth the read. It was lighthearted, there was very little angst, and the sexy times were there but were more sweet than steamy.

City meets countryside!

Ain't he precious was a sweet and charming fast read. It's always enjoyable when you get to meet new characters, new town and new way of living.

Trixie & Ryland were lovers for 3 years before life came in the way. Trixie went back to her little town of Whynot and Ryland keep living in New York City. But when she needs him on a special case, he doesn't hesitate and comes to her rescue. What started as help quickly becomes more? But what changed in 11 years?

Trixie has a sparkling tough personality! She loves her town something fierce and her only regret has always been letting Ryland on the side.
Ryland was a perfect gentleman through and through. He's sweet, funny and compassionate.
These two together spend their time laughing, challenging each other and the chemistry is definitely there.

I wish I could have more of them. This being a novella was too short for me but you'll find everything you need to have a sweet and beautiful romance as always. Add the facts, law is in the mix, and you have Sawyer Bennett at her best!

If you need a quick novella to get your reading mojo back, this is the one for you! It is a sweet second chance rom-com that you won't want to put down. And knowing that there will be more in this series is just a bonus.

This series will be centred around the Maine/Mancinkus clan. This novella is Trixie and Ryland's story, how they met in Law school and dated. They even made plans for their future, but Trixie couldn't live in the big city, and Ry was all set for his high profile position and couldn't see himself in a country town. So they parted ways......for eleven years.....until Trixie need help on a case.

These characters are all a hoot. Trix and Ry have such chemistry, you will be fanning yourself. And Yep! He is precious, just divine. This edition will also enlighten you on the family background and sets up for number two in the series. You will adore Pap, the patriarch Yankee who moved south to be with his son and family. I think he is recruiting more northerners to join the brood. Trixie has four siblings that I feel each has a story to tell and I personally can not wait!

I love it when an author decides to write under a pen name because they want to write a slightly different story...at least, that is what looks like happened here.

And, this classic Sawyer Bennett...but it is also Juliette Poe. And, I really, really enjoyed it. The writing style that you love is there, but it is different. The edges are softer, the characters maybe a little smoother. And not in a bad way. This takes place in Whynot, of all places...there is humor, and there is heart. But this one you relax your way into instead of the intensity that is in Sawyer Bennet's usual books. And, I loved it.

Have I mentioned I loved it? Some books are just a joy to read, to curl up with and just enjoy. This absolutely was. And, without a spoiler I absolutely LOVED the way they handled the resolution of the second chance, the reason they split before and how they could make it work now.

Trixie and Ry are definitely one of my new favorite couples and I can't wait to see what Juliette writes next, as I can absolutely promise you, I will be reading it.

I recommend this book.

Ain't He Precious? was such a fun, entertaining, and lighthearted read! It's on the shorter side, but this second chance romance was just what I was looking for after reading some heavier books.

Trixie and Ryland have been apart for eleven years, after dating for 3 years through law school. They had made plans to spend the rest of their lives together, when suddenly those plans changed, leaving Ryland in Boston, Massachusetts and Trixie in Whynot, North Carolina. They've moved on with their lives, but when a legal case brings the two of them together again in Whynot, it's clear that their chemistry is just as scorching and powerful as it was all those years ago. I loved how these two reconnected and Ry got some good old southern hospitality from the town and Trixie's family. The story is told from both character's points of view, and I especially enjoyed Ry's fish out of water monologue. Both Ry and Trixie are such strong, intelligent, and caring people, and the low angst of this romance was perfect. The secondary characters in the story were just as fun, especially Pap. I love that he's a straight shooter and I imagine it would be very fun to shoot the breeze with him.

I enjoyed this quick and amusing romance and can't wait for more from Juliette Poe! What a wonderful start to the series!
