My all time favorite Amar Chitra Katha, and one I keep close by in my bedroom. Savitri is drawn so bewitchingly gorgeous; only an early 80's Rekha comes close. She has been my primer on classic Indian beauty since I was 7! Possibly the most feminist character we have in all of our great mythology.

I liked to read the story. It is of ancient India that ladies and gents of those times had respect love and true undetstanding of each others feelings and relationships.

Savitri does what as a loyal and a very dignified wife! I had read this one among the many ACK books given by my cousin (I considered her as my half sister) when young and that brings nostalgia. And also putting block acchu mehendi to our small hands at the market just outside the bookshop after getting ACK books!

'Savitri' is a superb comic. Let me give you a brief synopsis of the comic. King Asvapati of Madra had various wives but was childless. During his visit to the temple of God Savitr , his wish of becoming a father was fulfilled by the God . The king had named his daughter Savitri after the god. Savitri's mother was Malavi. As the daughter grew up, she started learning music, philosophy and astronomy passionately. She was granted the freedom to choose the man she wanted to marry . She fell in love with Satyavan , who used to reside in the forest with his family. Satyavan was the son of an exiled ruler of Salwa kingdom. The name of the ruler was Dyumatsena who was blind. A wife being faithful to her husband, fighting alone for getting her husband 's life back and being selfless are all the qualities found in this comic.
