UPDATE:

"Did you know cardinals connected to the Curia take a dim view of the laity killing members of the Inquisition,” quips Ronan to his father when asked why that strange Italian knight rode all the way to Islay just to kill him. I had forgotten what a wit Ronan can be after not having any new Galloglass adventures to read for eighteen months. I re-read this volume to refresh my memory on McDonald lore for the dive into Galloglass Book V : Every Deed Into Judgement, but I enjoyed this read just as much today as I did a year and a half ago.

In fact I did not fully appreciate after the first reading what an international celebrity Ronan Mac Alasdair had become after his successful service with the Templars in the Outremer. He actually turned down two lucrative job offers - one from Doge of Venice (“What I want is Caffa. And I want you to lead the expedition to seize it.”) and the other from King Edward I of England. Ronan has many powerful friends and powerful enemies.

Towards the end of this volume Ronan and his men are recalled from supporting Turlough O'Donnell in Ireland and shipped back to Islay to meet the threat posed by his family nemesis - the treacherous MacDougalls. However Ronan left his cousin and lieutenant Eoughan behind to help Turlough hold his throne against his half -brother Aodh and my kinsmen the Clann Suibhne galloglasses. Will Ronan get back to Tír Chonaill in time to save his good friend from the howling mad McSweeneys?

Check out Book V and find out.

Always Leave Them Begging For More

And that's just what Seamus O'Griffin continues to do as he spins the tale of Ronan MacAlaisdar. Ronan released from his service to the Templars returns from the Holy Land to serve his father in the Western Isles and Ireland. He outfits his own "corrughadh" of galloglass and leads them to defeat the enemies of the MacDonald clan's puppet king in Donegal. While there he finds and wins the love of the witch, Sorcha, his first wife.

Ronan and his men are recalled to Islay to meet the threat of the faithless and treacherous MacDougall's. Thus many a skirmish and raid ensue and the stage is set for the role Ronan and the Clan MacDonald will play in the Wars of Scottish Independence and the Bruce campaign in Ireland.

Worth the wait! Ronan is a medieval Clint Eastwood. Can't wait for the next book. Seamus is one of the best authors in this genre.

Exciting Story

Great insight to the raw politics of Scotland and Ireland at the post-crusades period. Action packed battle scenes, good settings, and realistic dialogue. Well thought out plot.

Exactly what I look for in a Historical Fiction Novel

Great writing and story. Always appreciate attention to detail regarding military strategy, equipment and action. As a new author in this genre I was very impressed with this series so far. For those who love Christian Cameron's works (probably my favorite author at this point) you should definitely check out the Galloglass series!!
