This cookbook goes beyond the simplicity of just providing recipes. It is full of information related to IBS, including what IBS is, symptoms, triggers, and identifying other conditions that may be related to IBS. The book outlines the FODMAP diet in great detail, providing you lists of both foods you should eat as well as foods you should avoid if you suffer from IBS. They have even gone to such detail as to outline which spices should be ok to eat and which ones to avoid.
What I found really useful was the section highlighting lifestyle guidance, dining out, and traveling. The author also thoughtfully tells you which cooking methods and kitchen tools will help you to maintain a healthy IBS-friendly diet. I don't feel like the information is preachy either. The author commonly says throughout the book to always consult your physician in addition to any dietary or lifestyle regimens.
The recipes in this book sound delicious. Some of the ones at the top of my list are the banana and cocoa oatmeal pancakes, the blueberry breakfast coffee cake, and the Mediterranean grilled flatbread. The clam chowder and the shrimp kabobs are also on my list. So many great ideas for meals in this book that I wouldn't have thought of on my own. I feel like some doors have been opened for me when it comes to food options. Some things I thought I wouldn't be able to eat are actually in here.
I'm usually the one sitting at the table wishing I could be enjoying what everyone else was eating. I think the recipes in this book are going to turn the tables on that for sure. Thumbs up to the author.
Apart from a few typos and one recipe that had ingredients listed odd (I think it was a raspberry dessert that had the flour mislisted), I really enjoyed the read. Also, a bit confusing is that they have "artificial sweeteners" in the avoid list - but then have Sucralose and Nutrasweet in the approved list. Both of the those are artificial sweeteners - and sucralose is a serious trigger for some people (including my husband)
I did contact the publisher about this and they said they would look into it immediately. The recipes are simple, but not plain. I do plan on trying them slowly. Since I live with someone with IBS, it's helpful to have this book to help me avoid trigger foods. I'm also going to print off the encloses trigger lists for the restaurants we frequent. That was a nice addition.
This is a great book on IBS and what food triggers and have to avoid it. It gives great tips on how to change your lifestyle to make symptoms less in your life. It has yummy recipes that do not upset my stomach. Teaches me how to mange what I eat.
I have suffered with the debilitating and embarrassing affects of IBS nearly my whole life. I am always looking for ways to manage my symptoms. This book, "Essential IBS Cookbook: 200 Delicious IBS Meals To Manage Symptoms Of IBS", includes as it says...a whopping 200 recipes that are IBS friendly! The book starts out by describing IBS, its symptoms and its triggers that can cause a flair. It also goes on to suggest similar conditions that could be confused with IBS or contributing to the IBS...one of them being (SIBO) "small intestine bacterial overgrowth". As I said, IBS has tortured me for a long time and I only recently have heard about SIBO. It was nice to see this mention in the book for those seeking other possible causes for their symptoms. I wish I had known about it sooner!
This book's recipes focus around the growing theory of FODMAPs (Fermentable, Oligio-, Di-, Mono-saccharides And Polyols) and their role in significantly exacerbating IBS symptoms. The book gives an extensive list of high (bad) and low (good) foods under the FODMAP umbrella. From fruits and vegetables, to flavorings, herb, spices, dairy, wheat (including alternatives), and protein, this book provides a large selection of foods to help reduce or eliminate your IBS. The book also goes into lifestyle suggestions for cooking at home, eating out and traveling.
All 200 recipes are FODMAP friendly and include the title of the dish, number of servings, prep time, and cook time.
The ingredients required, preparation and cooking procedure is laid out in an easy to follow format. There are even conversion tables at the end of the book in Imperial and Metric units that help you convert volume, weight, cups, and oven temperatures. I also was impressed that some basic nutritional facts are also given such as calorie count, protein, carbs, fat and sugars. A nice touch. The biggest missing item that I am quite disappointed not to see is that there are no photographs at all of the completed dishes so that one knows what to expect as well as making it easier to choose what to cook in the first place. I am a very visual person.
The recipes cover all aspects of meals including breakfast, seafood, poultry, vegetarian dishes, stocks, soups, and stews as well as sides, salads, snacks, and sauces. Last but not least, my personal favorite, drinks and desserts.
I am extremely satisfied with this book and it's extensive collection of recipes. No more guessing and hoping that what you are cooking could be hurting you rather than helping. I will definitely slowly try each recipe and hopefully I'll see some improvement in my symptoms. I highly recommend this book for anyone suffering with IBS and looking for an easier way to not only cook IBS friendly meals, but to cook healthy, delicious dishes as well.
IBS Slow Cooker Cookbook and IBS Cookbook, intros and overviews are very much repeated. It repeats the symptoms and how it IBS is triggered. Recipes on location 944 Italian Turkey Patties , location 1719 Loaded Potato Skins , location 2574 Spinach and Feta Fusilli - has no list of ingredients. Although this book has many more recipes, it would be beneficial to have more than 4 photos of finished recipes. Perhaps some reviewer photos could be featured in the updated ebook. If I were the author I would have combined all the recipes from the 2 IBS books, into one. Since the topic intro and information is pretty much the same.
As far as I know I do not suffer from IBS or any other stomach issues. I got to review this cookbook and it had a ton of awesome recipes that are healthy and doable. It is also a great resource for those who need to know what to eat or what not to eat. For example, apples. Those are on the no-no list. That surprises me because I thought that the fiber they have is a great benefit - and it is, just not recommended for those who suffer with IBS.
This Essential Cookbook for IBS is amazing. Light hardy meals that will greatly benefit a sufferer of IBS! Unlike most meals that people make for this issue, these are actually really beneficial and quite frankly, tasty! I personally like the salads--many variations which easy call for alterations have you a spark of inspiration! I highly recommend and approve! 5/5
Overall, I was impressed by the variety of recipes included in this cookbook. Many were extremely easy to follow and did not take long to make. There are so many recipes, you'll definitely find a dish you'll love! The Fresh Ginger Chicken Salad and Chicken Meatballs & Rice have been two of my favourite dishes thus far.
There were a few ingredients on the ok list that I've been advised to avoid, such as barley and buckwheat. I was also a little disappointed how many of the breakfast recipes had seeds (chia, pumpkin, etc) in them as this has been another food I've been advised to stay away from. However, the recipes still tasted great when omitting those ingredients.
There were a couple dishes that did not have an ingredients list which was disappointing because they were dishes I cannot wait to try. Other than a few grammatical errors, the cookbook is definitely worth reading. The recipes differed from most IBS cookbooks I've read which were a welcome relief.
I was intrigued by this book as being an IBS sufferer I was not sure how this would be of any help. I suffer from food intolerance as well and often struggle to find a healthy diet. Upon further investigation this is quite unlike any other book I have come across.
The book itself is a cook book with several very tasty choices. There are various sections to choose from as you would expect. However, this book starts firstly with an introduction to IBS and just what it means to suffer from this condition. People may have these symptoms and never realise they have this condition and go on suffering needlessly. There are several great tips on what foods to avoid and good advise like if going to a restaurant why not do some research on their menu. Ask staff when you get there to assist you so they can look after your dietary needs. Some people are scared to do this and don't want to make a fuss, preferring to take the easy option and suffer the consequences later. I myself have been that person and after taking that first step to overcome this shyness you would be amazed how many people will go out of their way to help you. I have found my food palate very limited and have in general got bored with food. I have taken a liking to the more unusual things in this book like zucchini but have never really known how to cook it. This book has tons of ideas. I also like blueberries and various rice dishes and it has a recipe for blueberry vanilla milkshake and one for tropical rice. I would never have thought of putting blueberries and vanilla together. There is quite a lot of choice and something for everyone.
At the back of the book there is a conversion table for the measurements and the oven temperatures. This is great as it wont matter where you are as you should be able to convert the measurements and make the best dishes possible. Bon appétit.
I received this item for free and am under no obligation to write this review.
This is a good book about IBS. It gives information on what to eat and avoid as well as cooking tips. It includes many yummy recipes to help with IBS. There are some typos, but it's readable.
I always enjoy trying new recipes, and was happy to try this Essential IBS Cookbook. If you have IBS or a similar medical condition, you should check out this book for a good variety of recipes that could help you manage your symptoms. The book includes 200 recipes, as well as explanations of the low-FODMAP diet. This is a good starter book for those looking to improve their health and manage their condition.
This is a very informative book on ibs and what you shouldn't eat if you have this problem. I was distracted by the errors sometimes and wondered about the use of artificial sweeteners. This is why I gave the book a four instead of a five.
“The Essential IBS Cookbook” is a good starting point for anyone starting out on the low-FODMAP diet. The book explains how to limit your FODMAP intake, then goes on to include 200 delicious low-FODMAP recipes for breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner. Included is an explanation of FODMAPs and how they harm your digestive system. Also included is helpful advice on how to eat out at restaurants whilst avoiding all high-FODMAP containing ingredients. The recipes are simple, but not plain. I tried a couple of them and plan on trying more of them in the future. The book also talked about how to avoid trigger foods. The only thing I would have like is a more detailed explanation at the beginning of the book about IBS. The low price of the book is another great incentive to read the book. As a person dealing with IBS, I have been struggling with finding foods and recipes that will be tasty and keep my stomach from being upset. The recipes in this book are plentiful. I'm looking forward to trying more recipes and look forward to sharing recipes on my blog.
I found this to not only be a cookbook but an introduction to IBS causes and effects. I also found the list of foods to avoid helpful, however was disappointed to find it included most of my favorites.
Recipes looked good, I was surprised to see some breakfast items were extremely high in fiber, 9 grams! It might take my system some time to adjust to that much fiber.
I have yet to try recipes, some seemed to have longer preparation and cook times than I would normally spend on a meal - however eating healthier would be worth the effort.
A good book, and I plan on trying the recipes and see how effective they are at controlling my symptoms.
