Last Dance is the first in a sexy romance series by Jeffe Kennedy about five young women who have a set of rules that decides whether the guy they meet gets to advance with them to more intimate encounters. When stage actress Charley meets a mystery man who sweeps her off her feet at the last dance at a bar and then disappears, she can’t get him out of her mind. Her friend suggests placing an ad in ‘Missed Connections’ and it works – sort of. It gets her another meeting with him, but he insists on playing up the intrigue around their encounters by approaching a relationship one fanciful (and steamy!) meeting at a time. It’s a far cry from what Charley is used to, but that makes it all the more fun. But he’s got a secret that could damage what they are building between them.
I like the concept of this series. The rules are agreed to by all five female friends as a way to prevent bad hookups and they work, so long as they are strictly followed. There are several scenes with just the friends that show their closeness and camaraderie. Charley’s a bit of diva and she likes attention, which works perfectly for her chosen profession as an actress. But she’s also fun and friendly. Her meetings with the mystery man keep her on her toes as she never knows what to expect from him. He pushes her sexual envelope, recognizing her need for attention as a gateway to exhibitionism and in public or private, he’s got the control. They share some very steamy scenes as a result, but when she finds out who he really is, Charley has to acknowledge that her feelings for him are not just sexually motivated. There are a few ups and downs as they make their way to a happy ending. Likable characters, sexy scenes and a modern approach to dating and romance – I’m looking forward to reading more of this series.

This book made me break out the Sex and the City dvds.
As a romance, this novella is probably 3 stars-ish. Our hero is pretty one dimensional and not really developed, TBH. (We seriously don't even learn his name until the 50% mark or so.) It's the ladies that make this little novella funny and charming as hell.
Why is everyone in Charley’s bed?” Amy peered into the dim room.
Julie pushed past her and wedged onto my other side, grabbing the half empty container of candy. “Because that’s where half the population of Chicago has either been or wants to be?” she suggested.
Our heroine, Charlie, is vain, a little shallow, and unapologetic about the fact that she enjoys sex.
I pointed at her. “If I’d been able to fuck him as God intended, then I wouldn’t be all torn up about this. Now I’ll never know and the curiosity and suspense are going to kill me.
I adored Charlie. I could read a full length novel about her daily life, that's how much I loved her. Maybe it's just because this is a novella, but I appreciated the fact that the author avoids making Charlie out to be a bad person. There are a lot of male protagonists out there in Romance-landia who love 'em and leave 'em like Charlie, but not many female ones. And the ones that do are usually shown the "error" of their ways by the end of the book.
"Was he mean to you?” Ice continued, working up her ire. “Fuck you and kick you out? Did he hurt you? He better not have hurt you, because you know we’ll all help you kill him and dispose of the body."
The friendship these girls have is spectacular. They give each other shit, but don't hesitate to take care of each other.
We kept talking about getting those coasters or maybe the nail polish that changes colors in the presence of roofies, but in the meantime we employed the tried and true designated table-sitter system. Someone had to stay and guard the drinks and valuables.
Seriously, HOW MANY authors do you know that would think to include this? These girls have each other's backs.
Now I'm off to rewatch SATC.

Charlotte follows a few dating rules, and I must say, they do make it harder to meet guys cos she seems to diss them fast.
This story is about her meeting Mr Mystery, and frankly, he did push a few of my buttons. He was a bit stalkerish (but there is a reason). He played by his own rules to show her her rules were nothing. I got how he was how he was then. Her rules made it near impossible to win so he had to do what he could. Still, he was weird, even if I forgave it in the end.
Lots of smexy times, and as you know me skimming those. But yes loooots for a novella. So you guys will love that.

ta książka ma ledwo ponad sto stron a czytało mi się ją chyba najciężej z wszystkich które czytałam po angielsku chociaż może to wina tego że niezbyt podpasował mi styl pisania autorki. w pewnych momentach opisy były strasznie chaotyczne i ciężko było się połapać o co chodzi i co się dzieje. ale poza tym fabuła całkiem spoko i bohaterzy tez nie byli źli 👍🏻

The Missed Connections series is about a group of 5 single friends and the rules they've created to stop themselves making drunken dating mistakes. There are strict rules about how much intimacy is allowed on each encounter with a guy and the friends all keep an eye on each other to make sure the rules aren't broken. I really enjoyed the friendship between these women and the way they always looked out for each other, in too many romance novels other women are only included as potential love rivals so anything stories with strong female bonds automatically make me happy. The way they banter and have fun together reminded me a lot of the TV series Sex in the City and that's definitely not a negative.
Charley is an aspiring actress who loves to be the centre of attention, she loves the thrill of the chase and enjoys sex but once she's caught a guy's attention she looses interest quickly. I actually found her a little selfish but I liked that she owned her sexuality and wasn't ashamed of her desires. Mr Mystery catches her attention when they share a dance at a club but then he vanishes in the crowd leaving her wanting more. Charley isn't used to being the one who does the pursuing, it's normally the other way around, so that immediately captures her attention. Her mystery guy never does what she expects him to but that's the best way to keep her interested so it works in his favour.
If I'm honest I didn't manage to fall for Mr Mystery, it took far too long for us to get to know much about him so it was hard to connect to him as a person. Then his secret was revealed and I was irritated by the way he had been playing with Charley. I'd probably have forgiven him eventually (and to be fair, if he hadn't played the games he had then Charley would have lost interest the moment they'd had sex so I understood why he did it) but things happened a bit too fast and it stopped me becoming fully invested in them as a couple.
I'm still curious about the other girls though so I'm looking forward to reading their stories and hopefully I'll enjoy them even more than this one.

Pure deliciousness. That is what comes to mind when I think about Last Dance by Jeffe Kennedy. Her very hot contemporary romance story is sure to set your heart and body on fire. This is the first in a series titled Missed Connections about five girls/friends. In Last Dance it’s Charley that is out to just scratch an itch only to wind up finding so much more.
Kennedy knows how to write a story that is sure to scorch the pages, while developing amazing characters with real flaws that make you want to shake them or be them. Mr. Mystery in Last Dance is dreamy and sexy and makes me look at carousels in a whole new way. I was just as intrigued by the hero as Charley was. It was quite fun reading this story.
In addition to the romance building between Charley and Mr. Mystery, we are introduced to a very fun group of friends who already appear to be very different from one another. I seriously can’t wait to read each of their stories. Last Dance is a fantastic way to start off the series to keep readers wanting more.
Kennedy delivers an incredibly romantic and sexy story told from the point of view of someone a little jaded when it comes to love and a lot sassy. I really enjoyed the first person point of view in this story. Sometimes I find love scenes written in first person are hard to get into or feel, but Kennedy nails it (no pun intended) in Last Dance. It’s just as sensual and hot as it would be in third person.
If you are looking for an erotic tale that will grab you from the beginning and keep you flipping pages, give Last Dance a read.

A highly enjoyable quick read. It's been a while since I've read an m/f romance where I identified with the heroine just as much as I did the hero. Charley is far from perfect, but I *get* her. She's real. Strong. Able to take care of her self. And determined to be in control.
And yeah, her heart and mind aren't always in sync. I get that. Sometimes getting what you want means letting yourself be vulnerable.
The sex was hot and a little kinky and the book moved well. I'm now curious to see what happens with the other women in the series.

Short, but tightly written, this reminds me of the girls from Sex In the City. I don't know if I could have the courage that these ladies do, putting themselves out there in the dating scene, but Jeffe Kennedy shows the reader the possibilities of living on the edge. I adored the way this story ended and how the heroine learns to see herself through the hero's eyes. Loved it.

The Rules guide, instruct, and keep the girls from making poor choices. The Rules are in place for a reason and are not to be violated as violation of the Rules means consequences and one more bad decision to live with.
Charley Emory created the Rules to keep she and her best friends from making bad decisions where men are concerned. Oh, she has faced the consequences a time or two, but by and large, they have served her well. Of course, it’s easy to abide by the Rules when you generally view men as nothing more than a means to a sexual end; a tissue to be used once and then discarded. Charley never conceived of a time when her very own Rules would come back to bite her on the ass. To be fair, Charley is too arrogant to conceive of any man being worth her time and attention beyond a night or two.
Daniel Holt has adored Charley Emory from afar for months and months. He’s seen her perform on stage every chance he’s gotten and wanted, almost desperately to meet her. When the chance finally comes, Daniel plays it beyond cool and leaves Charley wanting more. In fact, Daniel doesn’t even leave Charley with his name or phone number, but he does leave her a message in Missed Connections, a way to meet him again, if she’s interested. For several weeks, Charley and Daniel rely on Missed Connections to meet one another and tease one another relentlessly, driving the considerable sexual tension between them higher and higher. While the games are fun, titillating even, Charley soon tires of them and wants to know more, something substantive about her missed connection. What she finds out rocks her world to its very core and alters every perception she has ever had about men and relationships. The only question is, will the new information help Charley or hurt her?
The Bottom Line: Truth time! I knew I would enjoy this book as I am a long-time fan of Jeffe Kennedy’s writing, and I did like most of it. Then, there’s Charley, whom I did not care for at all, not even a tiny little bit. So, how does that get me to a 4-star rating?? Here’s the skinny. I love the concept of this book, a group of women trying to help one another make better decisions and choices in their personal encounters, supporting one another rather than tearing one another down. I love the concept of the fictional Missed Connections encounters (not in real life, that shit’s just sketchy!), two people having to cleverly word ads in order to meet again. I loved Daniel Holt. Even though Daniel goes about meeting Charley in a somewhat devious way, his intentions are good and he wants nothing but the best for her. In this way, I was able to forgive Daniel his sins 😊 As always, with Jeffe Kennedy’s books, the naughty bits are delicious and the writing and plot are top notch. In all, Last Dance (with the exception of Charley!) is a fine start to a new series!

LAST DANCE is the first book in a new series, Missed Connections, by Jeffe Kennedy. It is a contemporary romance, and the series features a group of five young women sharing a house in Chicago as they begin their careers. I know and love Kennedy best for her paranormal and fantasy books. She also writes contemporary erotica, and LAST DANCE is firmly in that category. This is a quick and steamy read.
Charlotte Emory and her four best friends call themselves the Fabulous Five. Charley and her girlfriends have been living by a list of Dating Rules. A potential romantic interest must meet the progressing (not progressive!) criteria of the rules before he can advance to the next “round” of interaction with one of the Five in a their dating game of elimination. I’m not a fan of Sex in the City or things of that ilk, so I struggle to connect with these shallow young women and their frivolous rules. I do like the Girl Power vibe that underlies their friendships, though, and heartily endorse their sisterhood.
Charley has a brief encounter with a mystery man and a club. Mr. Mystery invites her for a slow dance and they share a single melting kiss on the dance floor. She is separated from him when the club shuts down for the night, however, and he disappears. Charley is reduced to trying to track him down using a Missed Connections ad. Egged on by her friends and their rules, she manages to connect with Mr. Mystery and yet keep him at arm’s length.
There’s a fun underlying puzzle to Mr. Mystery that is teased out just so, and provides a lovely fillip to the story. As usual for Kennedy’s writing, the erotica portions are well done but not overpowering. I appreciate authors who provide solid underpinnings of a real storyline to support the sex scenes. Mr. Mystery slowly teases Charley into following him along the path toward a true relationship, and because I like him, I cheer for their HEA. Kennedy’s LAST DANCE is a quick bite of delicious eroticism.

Full Review at: What's Beyond Forks?
The blurb really got my attention. You can already feel the chemistry before officially starting to read the book. Charlotte was a fun character. Her dating rules were great, and not too bad of an idea in many ways. (Even if I did want her to break a few) Mr Mystery knew just how to play her game too, which is just what she needed. I loved the sides to him. The mystery side was full of excitement and the unknown. Then as you get to know bits of the real him, he's all the more endearing. The supporting characters are friends you'd want in real life, and I'm so glad they'll be getting their own books within this series as well. Plus, the whole Missed Connections on Craigslist aspect of the story was just plain fun too. Who hasn't entertained themselves and wondered about some of those people on that site? Last Dance was such a fun, naughty little romance that kept me wondering about Mr. Mystery in the most thrilling ways.

The supporting characters are friends you'd want in real life, and I'm so glad they'll be getting their own books within this series as well. Plus, the whole Missed Connections on Craigslist aspect of the story was just plain fun too. Who hasn't entertained themselves and wondered about some of those people on that site? Last Dance was such a fun, naughty little romance that kept me wondering about Mr. Mystery in the most thrilling ways.

I’ve read several of Jeffe Kennedy’s works before and I’ve yet to come across one that I haven’t enjoyed. Last Dance is book one in the Missed Connections series. It kept me turning the pages, I just needed to find out who this mystery man was.
Charley and her group of friends have a set of Rules that they have to follow when it comes to men. The Rules are set in place for the good of the group. I found this a fun little addition to the storyline. Charley realizes that she doesn’t want to follow the Rules when it comes to her Mystery Man. She had to place a missed connections ad in order to find him and ends up going on several dates with him. He makes her feel something, something serious and it terrifies her. Although she’s not ready to admit her growing feelings, she keeps playing his games, for now.
This was a fun and entertaining book to read. I loved how there was so much that you didn’t know about the hero of the story. That aspect of the novel really gets you involved in the story, continuing to read just to get answers. This book is a wonderful combination of secrets, curiosity and lust. I can’t wait for more from the Missed Connections series!

4.0 stars - we meet the ladies out on the town, they are out to meet men but they have rules. If the rules get broken, the woman pays in household duties. Charlotte, a dancer/ actress has paid for what she calls her bad math skills in the past so is trying to be good. But one man outscores the others and makes her pursue him. --- I enjoyed watching Charlotte grow enough to share control with someone else.

Charly and her four friends have dating standard rules that made up and follow when they meet men. Charly meets someone who catches her eye. They dance but then he disappears in the crowd. She puts an ad in the paper and things go back and forth between them. Sexy and funny. Ms. Kennedy has a way of writing friendships and arguments.

I really dislike the heroine, I find the hero creepy, it wasn’t instant lust, it was pure creep.
