2.5 stars & 3/10 hearts. Well, it was a cute little story. I enjoyed seeing a little more of Martine’s father and mother! I could have done without the Santa Claus addition… it would have been way sweeter if the parents had been recognized for giving the gifts.

Gilbert Delahaye was the creative mind behind many of amazing children books, and this particular one is a timeless story for children and adults of all ages. The plot is enfolded in friendship, respect for the next, responsibility and the belief in something better. However, the final touch that made this work achieve the perfection is the very artsy illustrations by the remarkable master Marcel Marlier.
Attention Spoilers:
In the cold magical winter Anita and Pedro have fun outside. This season can be rough and uncomfortable, but has a unique beauty. The branches of the trees covered with small snowflakes, the frozen lakes where you can skate.
In this regard Anita was fascinated to saw some photographs of her mother skating in a lake. All her gracefulness motivated her to want ice skates as a gift on Christmas Eve.
Suddenly, Francisco shouts for help to his friends Anita and Pedro - Pantufa accidentally fell into a lake whose ice gave in, and is about to drown. The three children rush to help Pantufa with a net, but the puppy is very weak.
They quickly spot a Manor with a sleigh at the door and head down there with the small, weakened Pantufa, to ask for help. Strangely the door is open and the four of them go to the stables to dry and, above all, warm the furry with the straw. But notice that they are not alone and that they have a reindeer to keep them company. They are adorable animals and everyone interacts with them.
Then the four enter into another room, very different from the previous one. A large and majestic room full of toys, namely puppets, dolls, robots, stuffed animals, ships. Until they find a shelf with toys labeled with names and addresses. Anita immediately realized that they are at Santa's house and being too elusive in their exploration of the property.
Anita, Pedro and Pantufa thanked and said goodbye to Francisco, and went home.
It's Christmas night and the brothers and their faithful companion are waiting for Santa in the stairwell. However, they fall asleep due to exhaustion, Pantufa sees the bearded man entering. The furry friend woke the kids and said that their gifts were already there, including Anita's long-awaited ice skates.
The very next day, excited, Anita went to experience her skills with the help of Peter, while the little dog stood on the shores of the lake as he had learned his lesson.

I start every New Year reading children's books, not only to remember my own childhood, but mostly because I miss my Granddaughters an love reading out to them.

Every year I start by reading children's book, remembering the happiness I felt when I read my Children stories, and now missing my two Granddaughters... Martine's stories are wonderful, as they help build, in the reader, a whole universe of beauty and harmony, creating a very special atmosphere.

I totally recommend these children's books to establish peace and beauty in one's mind, in the midst of these times of trouble!

I always start the new year by reading a lot of children's books, not only to remind me of my infancy and return to the stories that made me happy and turned me into a READER, but also now to celebrate my Grand Daughters and that soon they will enjoy me reading to them. The eldest one already does, in fact!

Happy New Year to all!

This book was recommended to me to read as a French learner, and I really did enjoy it very much even if it’s meant to be for children. It was beautiful, touching, and magical; like any children’s book should be.
