Not anymore.

As the fall days tick away, the life she has worked so hard for is steadily slipping through her fingers, a happy life exchanged for excruciating chaos.

*****

Detective Gabriel Ryder was on thin ice. His last case had been a disaster. A child was dead, another would never wake up, and it was his fault. He couldn't sleep. His partner of four years had all but submitted his transfer papers. The position he had worked so hard for was disappearing before his eyes, and there wasn’t a thing he could do to stop it.

But now, an early-morning call out to a local seminary holds his career in the balance. If only he'd known just how much of his life would change with a single chance meeting....

I loved this book, and I hated this book. First, the bad—instead of saying “The End”, it should have said “To Be Continued”. It is Part 1 of a trilogy so this shouldn’t be so surprising. I just hope the author writes really fast because I am dying to continue the story. I almost didn’t read this book. The cover and the title made it sound like it involved the paranormal but this is not the case. This book is a very realistic medical drama. It is a murder mystery, and it is a love story. Grayson Carter is the Chief orthopedic resident at St Joseph’s Hospital. Gabriel Ryder is a detective with the Major Crimes Unit of the Denver police. People connected to the hospital are being murdered and left in churches on Sunday mornings. I loved the characters. Grayson is a strong female character in a man’s world. Her relationship with her roommate and best friend is like reminded me of Gray’s Anatomy. Gabriel is a good detective and a very mysterious man. We are not told much about his background. His relationship with his partners is well developed and reminiscent of the best detective partnerships on TV. The sexual tension between Grayson and Gabriel is palpable. I could not put this book down and I cannot wait to read the rest of the story. I am so thankful that I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Could not put this thriller down. Descriptions and developing characters is outstanding . A medical location and enviorment is a compelling background for this intriging novel! I cant wait for the next installment to be released

I am so disappointed in the end of this book. That is the reason for the low rating. Otherwise i would have rated it a 5 star.

Great start to what I'm sure will be a great ride.

I received a free ARC for my honest review.

Well written with twists and turns that will keep you guessing.

The ending will leave you on the edge of your seat for the next installment of this series.

Grayson is a Chief Orthopedic Resident at a trauma center. The accurate descriptions of medical procedures shows the author's medical training in her real life. The character seems to have it all but is human. She's strong and confident in her professional life but hesitant and self-deprecating about her life outside of work. Hints are dropped that will surely lead to exposing what happened to her before the book started.

Gabriel Ryder is a brilliant detective on the edge after his last case where he feels responsible so pushes himself in his current case. Sparks fly between Gray and Gabriel. Gabriel reminds me, very much, of Bobby Goren in Law and Order-Criminal Intent with his insights and picking at clues to try to find what's going on.

Hold on to your hats, this series is going to be a bumpy ride in a good way.
