Sydney West #2

Breaking Down Sydney

Rate this book
Sydney West’s new relationship might have survived Malibu, but her transformation from party girl to girlfriend isn’t complete…

Sydney is back in Arizona, and with the fall semester at her doorstep, doubts about her so-called summer love start to plague her. A bad girl can only stay good for so long. Jason King changed her and made her wonder if love was real. But now, far from his charm, and with the party scene on campus in full swing, the magic is fading…

Jason isn’t willing to let distance drive a wedge between them…

A surprise reunion and a romantic cabin getaway is enough to reignite their summertime spark, but Sydney isn’t convinced this whole monogamous, meet-your-parents thing Jason wants is possible. No boy has ever met her mother. Then, when a sudden family tragedy strikes, it sends her spiraling into her old habits of booze and boys.

Sydney can only hide from her past for so long…

In the fog of drowning her sorrows, Sydney realizes her former party lifestyle won’t make her happy. Her one-night stands ended with Jason. As much as she wants to believe in that far-fetched fairy tale ending, she’s afraid if Jason finds out about all her summer boys, he will abandon her just like her father did.

Jason refuses to settle for the superficial shell Sydney keeps between them, though, and is determined to…

Break Down Sydney once and for all.

I had the pleasure of beta reading this book. Another home run!

I absolutely loved the first book in Sydney’s series and this was a worthy second installment. There was romance, lots of sex, drama, and emotional push and pull that kept me riveted all the way through to the end. Jason melted my heart by joining Sydney in Arizona and being her rock throughout all the difficult times they encountered throughout the story. At some points I was on the edge of my seat because of events that were happening on campus.

If you love NA romance and especially college romance, this series is for you. It’s a twist on the manwhore stories everybody loves to read: in this book, the girl is the one being reformed. The way her love for Jason evolves in this installment was beautiful to watch. I can’t wait until book 3 comes out!

Sydney is back in Arizona with her friend Amelia and she is in love but hardly dares to admit it to herself, because long distance relationships don’t work right? Jason has other ideas and doesn’t want to let Sydney slip through his fingers but then something from Sydney’s past returns and the aftermath makes a return of the old Sydney inevitable, or does it.
This is an emotional story, told from a first person point of view. Sydney’s new relationship makes her question her former ‘love them and leave them’ lifestyle. Jason is a complex character but his love for Sydney is self evident and he gives her the strength she needs, to ride their emotional rollercoaster.
An unexpected plot twist makes you wonder if fate will rob Sydney of her happiness and sets the scene nicely for the third book in the series.
Aimed at lovers of young adult and college romance this story provides, angst, realistic life situations and lots of hot loving. It’s well written and definitely worth reading.
I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

•School vs Vacation
Breaking Down Sydney is Book Two of Brittney Coon's trilogy. It picks up where Shades of Sydney (Book One) left off, with Sydney and Amelia heading back to campus after their summer vacation in Malibu. Where they met and hooked up with Hunter and jason. Sydney tells her gay guy friends about their summer romance but then has the guys leave because she can't look at the love her friends have while missing Jason so much.
Even though Sydney didn't want to, she missed jason like missing a piece of herself. She never thought she'd be the type that'd not only be in a relationship but missing someone. She was the love 'em & leave 'em before the sun is up type after all... But of course, that was BEFORE Jason. He was the first guy she'd EVER said "I love you" to, but she meant it. However she still wasn't sure if their relationship could last the distance & they wouldn't see each other for another 4 months!!
Sydney also still refuses to see her dying father. She cannot understand why people don't understand he's already been dead to her for years because of everything he put her and her mother thru, why don't they get it? He hurt her enough when she was a child, she's not going to allow it when she's an adult and can prevent it. Sydney still lives by her sayings... "Be careful what you wish for because it might come true." Does she finally break down and go see him? BIG surprises are in store inside the pages of this book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the changes within Sydney! Each story gets better and better. I do not know how Brittney continues to pull me in and glue me to the story page after page, but she has. I rate this story with 5 stars and I cannot wait to read book 3 to read what is next within Sydney & Jason's lives, as well as Amelia & Hunter's. It has been an amazing love, yet growing up story. I'm off to read Piecing Together Sydney- A Sydney West Novel, Book 3.

I really enjoyed this second instalment of Sydney and Jason’s story.

The book starts with Sydney and Amelia back at college in Arizona, with both girls hugely missing Jason and Hunter. Sydney is really struggling and feels a little lost - even her old partying ways don’t seem all that appealing any more.

“I needed to be distracted. My heart, soul, and body ached at the absence of Jason. How could someone make you wish you were broken in two? If I were in two, a part of me could’ve stayed in California. Such crazy talk. That was a foolish girl speaking. Focus, I needed to focus.”

I felt like the story line really developed and there was a lot more content in this book. Sydney is starting to grow up a little more and is realising that Jason is actually really good for her, loves her and she realises how much she loves him too.
When Jason and Sydney are able to be together again, he has the task of convincing Sydney that she is worthy of his love. Obstacles get in the way though, partly due to Sydney’s history and self-doubt.

There is also a family loss which has the potential to send Sydney back to her old ways, and further away from Jason. Jason is determined to fight for Sydney, but will she let him?

“Don’t you remember that I love you? When you love someone, you’d walk through fire, through the Valley of Death, for them."

Some of the text speak confused me with the abbreviations (that could be my age!!), but as this is aimed at YA, then the younger (cooler!) readers would probably know what they mean!
There was a bit of drama in this book, more so than the previous one which I liked! I enjoyed the fact that there was far more about Sydney and Jason as a couple in this, and Sydney is finally growing up a bit. I also enjoyed the snippets throughout the book of how Amelia and Hunter’s relationship was developing too. Overall, a really good second book, and I see there is to be a 3rd, so I look forward to that too.

**** 4 stars! ****

Breaking Down Sydney is the second book in the Sydney West series by Brittney Coon. For a second book in a series to be even better than the first, that’s no small feat. Breaking Down Sydney certainly eased my angst and spurred my interest even more in this author and her next books.

In this second installment, Jason goes on a mission to prove his love to Sydney by being more than just another Malibu summer boy. Nope, Jason is the boy she gives the L word to after long denying the words to ever past her lips. However, Sydney internally struggles with the idea of love and the idea of someone truly loving her for all time. Jason is not deterred but opens Sydney's heart completely. Jason buries himself deep inside Sydney’s heart and finally opens her up to his love and to their future. We also see the dynamic between Sydney, Sydney’s mom and dad. I can safely say those parts of the book made me dig deep.

In Shades of Sydney, I saw Sydney’s misguided and rather jaded heart find something she never thought would happen: love. In Breaking Down Sydney, I got a treat in seeing Jason literally breaking down the walls that held Sydney prisoner. Breaking down Sydney’s walls over the span of these two books allowed for Sydney to grow not only in character but also in depth. I couldn’t help but love Jason’s simplistic ways and to some extent love Sydney’s feisty character even though her self analyzation drove me crazy at certain points.

This book kept me completely gripped with its many twists and turns. Sometimes I felt like whacking Sydney for pushing Jason away in certain situations. But hey which young couple doesn’t have angsty moments?! And let me tell you there is one twist I did not see coming. I’m looking forward to reading more from this author because Amelia’s story just needs to be written like yesterday.

This is the second book in the Sydney novels by Brittney Coon and I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed this story just as much as the first one .Brittney Coon's has given another touching story about Sydney that will suck us in and keeps us there until the very end ,and will still leave us wanting more from this author. This story has drama, lots of hot and steamy sex,and even some emotional pushes and some amazing pulls that will keep you on the edge of your chair waiting to see what is going to happen next to this amazing couple. I was so happy to see that Jason joined Sydney in Arizona ,and the way that he became her rock throughout the hard times that their encountered .I think what got me biting my nails is all that stuff that was happening on the campus. My hero Jason goes on a real journey too prove his love for Sydney by becoming more then a hot and sexy surfer guy. Finally Jason is the guy that she swears her love to,after denying for so long that she would never say that word to any body. But the struggles that she goes through because of the idea that and the believe she had that no one could ever love her. But now she has someone that loves her for her. I loved the way Jason was so deterred to open Sydney 's heart to love and the way that he buried himself into her warm heart, and the way that he finally got her to say that little word love to him. I could go on and tell you more about this touching story ,but that would spoil it for you. I highly recommend that you read this touching story ,because you won't be disappointed.

Sydney West has always lived her life by summers. She loves everything about it, but nothing more so than her summer boys. So what happens when one summer she meets her match?

Jason is Sydney's latest summer boy... But he's so much more than that, if only he can convince her of that. When Sydney returns to Arizona after of summer of sunshine and love she doesn't quite know how to act or who she is after she left her heart back at the beach. Before she's had a chance to figure it out, Jason surprises her by following her home.

While Sydney struggles to figure out her place in the world, Jason stands resolutely by her side helping her in anyway he can. He picks her up when she falls, hold her as she cries and loves her when she believes she doesn't deserve it.

Brittney does a fabulous job of exploring the struggles of true love and the obstacles life throws at us. You can't help but to fall in love with Sydney's idiosyncrasies as she tries to hold it together and Jason, I don't think he could be more perfect if he tried... He's strong, loyal, loving and filled with patience and compassion.

Can't wait for book 3!

Jason, the true hero of this story, doesn't let Sydney doubt anything. He is there for her, in more ways than one, and keeps reminding her what they have to fight for. But will it be enough for Sydney? What happens when the party gods start calling her? Will she answer or will she turn to Jason when tragedy strikes?

Sydney is one of those characters that makes it hard to love her. You want to scream and yell at the book because you become so invested in the relationship that you NEED Sydney to make the right choices. Jason touches your heart so much and you just want him to be happy with Sydney.

Happy surprise, Hunter and Amelia, the best friends of Jason and Sydney are back and I'm thrilled. They provide a beautiful foil and I think that Coon was very clever to set her story up this way.

As for the sex scenes, again, Coon doesn't disappoint! But remember, Coon's scenes are not for the faint of heart. You need to be prepared for a Sydney Sex Scene which is different from ones that you've red before. Remember, she is a player and knows her way around the bedroom.

Breaking Down Sydney is Book 2 of the Sydney West Novel series. We continue to follow, not only Sydney and Jason but also Amelia and Hunter.
I rate this book at a 4 star because the story is well written and the characters and events are both heart wrenching and believable. There are some terrifying events and some that crush her heart and soul. But she has to learn how to lean on those that love her and decide if she wants to believe in love or continue to push everyone away.
I did not like how weak willed and defeated Sydney was in this book. She was such a take charge, live life by the seat of your pants, take nothing off of nobody, force to be reckoned with in book one but is so depressed and defeated and needy in this one. Once you read the events that take place, it is understandable. I just hope that book 3 portrays her as both independent with the ability to depend on others also.

After coming back from summer break in California Sydney West is a changed person who has left her heart with Jason King. She asks herself "No sane person can fall in love during a season can they?". But I think fate is about to prove Sydney wrong!!! Not sure what to do Sydney gets her head down and gets stuck into her classes. A surprise reunion catches Sydney off guard and we see the loving the relationship bloom between Jason and Sydney. Their relationship has it's ups and downs and Sydney tries her best to push Jason away but he shows her what loving someone really means. This book had heartbreak, love and some very sexy scenes. There was also plenty of anticipation as to what direction Ms Coon was going to take this loving strong couple and I totally enjoyed the ending, it left us wanting more. I can't wait to see what curve ball Brittney Coon throws this couple in the next instalment and find out how Sydney deals with the new changes

After leaving Jason in California, Sydney finally starts to admit to herself that she misses him.. that maybe he's worked his way in to her heart after all. Jason misses her too, and surprises Syd by uprooting his life and transferring to her school. She's beyond happy, but she isn't the best at expressing how she feels, especially about love and ESPECIALLY not to her first real boyfriend in her entire life. Jason knows how Syd felt about love and is working slowly but persistently at breaking down her walls. After a few instances remind Syd just how much she loves Jason and wants him in her life, she tries to show him how she feels more clearly. Will it be too late or are Jason and Sydney strong enough to conquer the obstacles?
I recommend this book to everyone who read Shades of Sydney because this is the much needed continuation of their story and we get another dose of the characters we fell in love with!!

I was provided with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Breaking Down Sydney (A Sydney West Novel Book 2) by Brittney Coon is a wonderfully emotionally charged romance that will keep the reader engaged. Brittney Coon created a delightful story with complex characters.

Sydney West and Jason King provide sizzling sex scenes. There are a great deal of angst and it is a good thing Jason is steadfast in his feelings and resilience in gaining ownership of Sydney’s heart. The troubles Sydney experiences is easily relatable and the reader will find themselves hoping and wishing for her to find true happiness and not only in her relationship with Jason.

I am rating Breaking Down Sydney (A Sydney West Novel Book 2) by Brittney Coon 4.5 stars. The series is a read again and definitely a recommend to book friends. I will be looking forward to her next book!

This series just keeps improving. I love who Sydney is becoming. I wasn't exactly her biggest fan in book 1 but she is maturing as the series progresses. Jason and she are now in an official relationship. Sydney has to learn to accept all that includes like meeting families and opening up about her feelings and issues. I also like that Brittney shows that Sydney can't ignore her past. She has to learn to live with her history and move forward into the future with Jason. Jason is still the great guy we met in Shades of Sydney. He continues to pull out tons more romantic gestures. The book ends on a very happy note but there is still more to come in the series.

This book was the second book of the series, much like the first one we get a look at how love can overcome many obstacles when it’s truly worth it.

The characters grew up since the first book. Not in age wise but in how the view love and life. Things happen in this book that made me swoon, I loved Jason! And things happened that made your heart break, I felt for Sydney thru the whole book. I was frustrated at times, and amused. This book brings out all the emotions that you can feel in a book.

Overall this was a great addition to this series! I can’t wait to see what the author writes next! I will keep this author in my must stalk list! 4stars!

I'm so glad that Sydney got a second book! She came so far in her journey in book 1 that I had to see how it played out once she got back to Arizona. And how her relationship with Jason will survive.

Just like in book 1, Jason won't let Sydney push him and their relationship away and go back to her party girl ways. They might be in two different states but he won't let that stop him.

This book was a great sequel/continuance of Shades of Sydney and very much needed.

I received an arc from the author

I was waiting for this book since i really liked the first part of this series. This book is a quick read.

Sydney not believing in long distance relationships is trying to figure out what she thinks of Jason and what can she do about her feelings. On the other hand Jason is not ready to give up on Sydney and gives her a big surprise. The story has a nice cheerful outline which gives it a refreshing feeling.

This story starts with Sydney back in college after her summer in Malibu. She's missing Jason and then he surprises her by transferring. Sydney is still insecure and doubts her ability to love and be loved. She still puts up barriers, but Jason slowly helps her break them down. She still has moments when she wants to revert to her old ways, but Jason is always there for her. This is a sweet story about a guy who won't give up on the girl he loves.

Unfortunately I still couldn't relate to Sydney and disliking the leading lady soured this book for me. Jason was great, Amelia was a bit over the top but still tolerable. But Sydney? I don't know what Jason sees in her other than shared personal tragedy where their fathers are concerned. She has no likeable qualities I could find. I really wanted to like her since the story premise is good but I just couldn't.

Brittney Coon does it again. I love Sydney! In the 1st book Sydney met Jason and he was determined to win her heart. Even though she made it very difficult for him. This book sees Sydney and Jason managing a long-distance relationship. There were so many twists and turns in this book that kept me turning the page. Every girl should have a Jason.

This book was just as good if not better than the first. We get to learn more about Sydney and watch her love for Jason grow.

There a quite a few plot twists in this book which just make it even better as you see Sydney work her way through them in order to be with Jason.

Well worth a read and cannot wait for the 3rd book

I enjoyed this book better than the first one. This book is the continuation of Shades of Sydney. Here you learn more about Sydney and how she heads back to college and her one summer boy that you meet in Shades of Sydney transfers to her college in Arizona. The relationship has it ups and downs as Sydney has a hard time dealing with being in love. She finally learns that love is better than pushing people away.

I enjoyed the unexpected twist in the book. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.
