'Her Majesty's Scoundrels' is a box set with 5 Novella! This box set has a few of my favorite authors along with a few authors I have not had the chance to read their books...until now. That is one of the reason I love box sets. It gives you a chance to find new authors and to get a quick read of a favorite author. Box set of Novella's are also nice when you need quick story while you are waiting and for night reading. This also is for the person that loves a spy/mystery story with their romance!
Here are the story titles:
1. To Lure a Lost Duke by Christy Carlyle:
Killian Graves, Duke of Strathmoor, doesn’t wish to be found. An unforgivable act in London and haunting memories of war have turned him into a recluse. Not even Octavia Fowler, the fetching lady detective Queen Victoria set on his trail can lure him back from seclusion. Though she may prove a danger to his heart.
*Octavia "Tavia" is running her own detective agency and is asked by the Queen to bring in Killian who is the new Duke but he refuses to come forward. Tavia tracks down Killian and he is a harden recluse who is very slow to even acknowledge the title after his brother's death. But Tavia will be hard to resist.
2. Cast in Scandal by Laura Landon
Edward Waverley, Duke of Townsend, has put his undercover work for Her Majesty far behind him. But when she calls on him to find a missing agent, every clue leads him to the same woman—a woman accused of murdering her husband.
Everyone in Society assumes Lady Alyssa Lindleigh is guilty of her husband’s death. Now, if she wants to make her way back into their favor, she must prove her innocence. If she can only find the real murderers without losing her life. And the man she has come to love.
*This was a nice surprise as Edward and Alyssa were older. Edward has grown children who are married and he is trying to protect their name. Alyssa is being accused of murdering her husband but she has come forward to try and find the killer...and putting her life in danger.
3. The Viscount's Secret by Anthea Lawson
Anthony Blake, Viscount Percival, is renowned throughout the ton for his handsome face and his foppish ways. Only a select few know that beneath Lord Percival's foolish exterior is a keen intelligence able to ferret out diplomatic secrets for the Crown. Nobody suspects his secret until Lord Percival meets a quiet, unassuming young woman who sees far more than she should.
* Anthony is trying to find out information and is looking to get that from Irenna's aunt. Anthony goes about acting the 'dandy' and just a 'pretty face' to disguise his true action and self. Irenna has been hurt by a 'pretty face' before and wont' be doing that again. So at first she is believing what Anthony is dishing out..but that doesn't take long for Irenna to realize he isn't what he seems.
4. A Spy To Call My Own by Rebecca Paula
When her brother dies mysteriously, suffragette Vera Attwater travels to Africa to track down her brother's best friend, Owen MacKenna for help. But the Scottish adventurer is more than her brother's friend, he's also the man she's been secretly in love with since childhood. They might fight their attraction, but there's no denying the dangerous secrets they discover as they travel through the jungle. Will love win out or will Owen lose the real mission of keeping Vera safe?
* Vera goes looking for what happened to her brother and what might be happening to her. Vera looks to Owen for help and answers. But Owen means more to Vera than just answers to her questions but can Owen return those feelings?
5. Tempting the Scoundrel by Lana Williams
Elliott Walker, the Earl of Aberland, leads a double life, working for British Intelligence while playing the scoundrel. His grandmother’s new companion, Sophia Markham, is observant and tempting, threatening his secrets. Sophia knows all too well rogues should be avoided, but dare she trust this one as her heart longs to do?
* Elliott was shocked that his Grandmother had a companion when he returned home. Elliott with his spying needs to keep things to himself and doesn't like allot of people in his house it seems. But when he tries to dismiss Sophia he learns that his Grandmother has grown attached to her. This was a cute read with Elliott trying to be distant and first. Sophia too was a sweet and smart main character who was of a 'strong' mind.
Totally enjoyed this box set!

*I am voluntarily leaving a review for an eARC that was provided to me by the author*

A very good collection of Victorian Era novellas.

To Lure a Lost Duke - Christy Carlyle - 5 stars: This was my favorite in the collection, it was also the longest of the five and the steamiest. This is the story of Octavia aka Tavia and Killian Graves, the Duke of Strathmoor. Octavia is an investigator hired by the Queen to track down Killian and bring him back to London. Killian was a soilder and never expected to inherit, he doesn't feel worthy and couple that with an accusation of murder - he has decided to walk away from his life. Tavia finds Killian and worms her way into his life. After a confrontation with the murdered man's brother, Killian agrees to return to London, where he hope Tavia will agree to marry him. But upon his return he is promptly arrested for the murder and believes the woman he loves betrayed him. Can Tavia clear his name and convince Killian that she was not party to his arrest? Great story!

Cast In Scandal - Laura Landon - 4 stars: This is the story of Edward, Duke of Townsend and Alyssa, Countess of Lindleigh. Edward has been tasked with finding a missing agent of the crown and finding out the truth of Lord Lindleigh's death. Alyssa has lived under a cloud of suspicion for the past year - the ton believes that she killed her husband. Alyssa would be more than happy to live the rest of her life out of society - but for the sake of her daughter, she has re-entered society and is trying to put the scandal behind her - without much success. Edward is drawn to Alyssa and after a rocky start, they form a friendship. Edward manages to find the missing link between the missing agent and the death of Alyssa's husband - but will he be able to save the woman he loves? I liked this story - both Alyssa and Edward are older and have been in love before and been hurt by those loves.

The Viscount's Secret - Anthea Lawson - 3 stars: Anthony, Viscount Percival is a spy, he has honed an image of a frivolous flirt to glean secrets. Irenna is the niece of Anthony's latest target - but somehow she sees past his disguise. Anthony is intrigued by Irenna and hopes that she can be the one woman that can love the real Anthony. But the path to their HEA will be difficult, Irenna has been hurt before and war is brewing. I felt like this novella was a little too short and therefore it made the love story feel rushed and unbelievable.

A Spy to Call My Own - Rebecca Paul - 3 1/2 stars: This story started out so good, but it wrapped up too quickly. Vera is a suffragette and attending college when she learns that her brother has died. Desperate for answers, she travels to Africa to find her brother's partner, Owen. Owen is an agent for the home office - he fell in love with Vera years ago - but his duty has made walk away from her. When she shows up with a map that she found hidden in her brother's belongings - he wants nothing more than to ship her back to England where she will be safe. Vera is having none of that and manages to save herself and Owen from certain death when the villain tries to take the treasure that cost her brother his life. This was well written and interesting - but it wraps up way too fast and felt incomplete.

Tempting the Scoundrel - Lana Williams - 4 1/2 stars: Elliott, Earl of Aberland is a spy, he has cultivated the image of a rake and a wastrel to explain his many absences from society. Sophia Markham is his grandmother's new companion and far to lovely and clever for Elliott's peace of mind. Elliott tries to send Sophia away - because he knows it will be impossible to maintain his cover with this woman, but his grandmother adores her and he doesn't have the heart to hurt her. They grow close and Sophia is sure that Elliott is not the scoundrel he wants the world to believe. However when she spies on him and is caught - he makes it clear that he is not interested in her and that he is exactly what his reputation implies. But when danger threatens and Sophia is dragged into an assassination attempt on the Queen - Elliott will move heaven and earth to save the woman he loves. Great addition to the Seven Curses series with cameos from the previous characters.

I really enjoyed this collection and would be happy to recommend it.

Usually I refrain from reading anthologies as the differing stories and writing styles drive me batty. However the c'mon three for these stories allowed for them to be perceived as happening simaltaniously. Living a double life is hard, but must be done for the good of the crown and the country. Will falling in love blow a spys cover?

I wish I could rate this higher. 5 novellas makes it nice and long, something I could stretch to 5 lovely days of reading pleasure. Unfortunately, novellas 2-5 suffer from a lack of editing. Note to authors: often spell-check releases the WRONG word. If I type too fast , I sometimes leave a word out--you did that also. Getting someone (not yourself) to read through your product and spot those wrong and missing words would greatly reduce reader displeasure. At one point, novella 5 referred to an unmade bed, which was perfectly made up in the next paragraph. Really? Your Grandmother would have spotted that error.
Professionalism matters, authors. Try better next time.

Five stories for than price!

I got this book because of Christy Carlyle and Laura Landon I really like their books. I was not disappointed, they were witty hot and a good read the other three I enjoyed and would probably read them if I saw their books. They weren't interconnecting they were separate stories and they were short but I kind of like that 11 chapters Maybe. I would recommend them.

More accurately it's a 3.6, but whatever I enjoyed this collection quite well. I'll update this review with my individual thoughts on each shortly. As a collection it fulfilled it's purpose - 5 loyal British officers living double lives in name of the Queen, find love with their significant others.

5 amazing stories! 2 authors were new to me and the others well it was awesome to see characters connect from their other series. Each story had a similar theme yet all very unique. I fell in love with each hero and all the heroines were just as I hoped they would be.

I received a review copy of this book.

So far I've read one of the stories in the box set and will update the review as I finish reading the others.

Christy Carlyle's novella, To Lure a Lost Duke features a unique heroine, Octavia, who is independent and is making her own way in the world. She takes the unexpected situations that come her way in stride. Killian is an excellent match for her. She gives him the strength and hope to look forward to the future—and face his past. I found the characters to be interesting and enjoyed reading this novella.

To Lure a Lost Duke by Christy Carlyle

A mix of some of my favorite things a heroine that is doing a man’s job, a hero that is haunted by his past and the queen! This is a bit of a love at first sight story that leaps off the pages. I loved how quickly everything happened and the twist once they got back to London. The ending was perfect.

Octavia is very much independent and out to do her job. I loved everything about her because she was serious about her job, but also very caring and bold.

Killian has hidden for different reasons than most think. I loved how took care of others and when he realized what he needed to do.

Cast in Scandal by Laura Landon

Scandal runs wild in London some known and some not. This one was great because I somewhat knew was behind everything, but there was still a small twist in it. I loved all of the scenes at the balls since there was always some kind of action good and bad. They were meant to find each other and it just took a crime to do it.

Alyssa is a very strong and innocent woman. She keeps her head high no matter what people say and is determined to take her place in society again. I loved her as soon as she walked into the ballroom and how she acted.

Edward has a very shocking secret that has kept him and his family mostly out of sight. But he is also a strong and smart man even if he comes off as cold at first. I loved how he was with his family.

The Viscount’s Secret by Anthea Lawson

This one provided some giggles and some different things and I loved that. The beginning was awesome and hooked me right away. I loved their meeting and her aunt even though she could be a little out there in what she said and did, but she cared about her niece. I thought things would happen one way, but they happened another way.

Irenna doesn’t trust many men because of something that happened, but she also has an eye for seeing the truth. I loved how she could fight if she had to and was brave in what she did.

Anthony definitely could be a peacock and make you smile. I loved him from the start and the show he put on. I also loved his fighting skills and how quick he was to react to things.

A Spy To Call My Own by Rebecca Paula

I loved that this one is set in Africa and that the heroine is a suffragette! It was definitely a scary adventure in Africa for both while trying to uncover the answers for her brother’s death. There were a couple of sneaky twists in this one that I couldn’t figure who was behind anything or if they were even connected until the end. I also loved that they actually knew each other already.

Vera was definitely a suffragette and I loved that. When she set her mind to something to meant to do it no matter what. She didn’t seem to ever second guess herself or really jump to conclusions.

Owen knew that his friend’s death wasn’t as it seemed. He did his job and he did it very well. I loved how he just said what he was thinking when it came to everything and tried to get her back home.

Tempting the Scoundrel by Lana Williams

I loved this one from the start. As soon as they met I knew sparks were going to fly both good and bad. His grandmother was so much fun with how she had a plan and you didn’t argue with her. I loved the back and forth between them and when everything happened at the concert hall. The ending was great too.

Sophia was a determined girl. She could see there was something in him that didn’t match his reputation. I loved how she fought with herself because of what her aunt had drilled into her.

Elliott will have your heart from the start because of how he is with his grandmother. He hates to lie but has to so he can protect those around him. I loved how he was with everyone he talked to because he was kind.
