Jason Carver thought he had life figured out, but after his divorce, he felt lost. When he accepted a job offer in New York, he had no idea that Kira Clark, his new office manager, was exactly what he’d been looking for. Now, he just has to convince her that even though he’s her boss, they’re perfect for each other. Kira hadn’t been looking for a fairytale love story because she learned early on that life doesn't always have a happy ending. Now she’s on the wrong side of thirty, a widow, and raising her teenage daughter alone. At this point in her life, romance and love were the last things on her mind. But despite her trying to keep things strictly professional with her new boss, Jason managed to sneak past her defenses one sweet, disarming gesture at a time. Could this be the Happily Ever After she’d given up on, or just another empty promise?
I am so tired of the "she woke up not able to remember who she slept with last night" trope.
If your heroine was too drunk to remember she had sex, she was probably too drunk to consent. I am 100% over dub-con in my romance novels. Automatic DNF, I don't care how good the rest of the book is.

The Modern Girl’s Guide to Office Romance is a fun and enjoyable addition to Gina Drayer’s MGG series. What happens when your one-night stand turns out to be your new boss? Yup, you guessed it---chaos and confusion reign as Kira comes face-to-face with Jason who has just taken over as managing partner of her new office. The sexual tension between the two is off-the-charts as they fight their attraction to one another. Both have been hurt before and have their walls up but nothing can stop these two from falling for each other as they spend more and more time together both in and out of the office. Jason forms a great bond with Kira’s teenage daughter, Riley and I really enjoyed how natural their relationship was. It was obvious how much he cared for her---not because he had to since she was Kira’s daughter, but because he genuinely liked her and wanted to foster a relationship with her. Kira and Jason were perfect for each other and as their relationship blossomed, Drayer perfectly conveyed to the reader just how well they fit together. In the bedroom, these two were burning up the sheets and their scenes were super hot and sexy. I loved their attraction to one another!
This story is funny, sexy, sweet and emotional. It is a story that truly begs the question of “what would you do?”. It is a complete standalone story within a series and reading the prior books is not necessary. Characters from the other books do make appearances however, Drayer does a great job of explaining to the reader who they are and how they fit into the storyline.
I absolutely love these books! Kira and Jason are fantastic together and Kira's daughter just makes me want to die laughing! Kira's daughter is, surprisingly, integral to the love story, but not in a creepy way.
Without giving much away, but with a slight spoiler alert:
I'm so in love with this entire series and it only gets better! I'm lucky enough to be a beta reader and received an advanced copy of the book in exchange for a review, but Gina Drayer is on my auto-buy list for life! And any time I meet someone who says they're interested in happily-ever-after, lighthearted romance, I point them straight to these books! (Now I just need print copies available for those luddites that won't use an ereader!)
I thought this was a well written book. If I give the book away, you won't want to read it so I will give you a few snippets. I really liked the character Kira. She is a woman that isn't afraid to give that little extra to get the work done but also nobody gives her any credit for. It's almost as if she's invisible. Kira has a teenage daughter with disabilities. Her mom helps take care of her while Kira is at work. When Jason came into the picture, he seemed like a great guy. Was reall good with Riley (her daughter) and the chemistry between Kira and Jason is fun, flirty and at times exactly what a real life relationship is all about. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book.
I enjoyed this so much. It's a witty, sassy, funny read that feels like a great big in-joke. And because you're on the inside, you get it. For something that seems so light and fluffy on the surface, there's a lot of meat to the story. It's not a quick read but you really don't notice it until you put the book down and look up at the clock and realize how much time has elapsed while you were in another world entirely. Everyone who's ever worked in an office has either had one who tempted them, watched an office romance implode, or just maybe been lucky enough to watch one blossom into something amazing. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book.
I'll start by saying I didn't finish this book and I'll tell you why. It was so boring usually when I read I'm always trying to find time to get back in the story. However with this book I completely and totally forgot I was still reading this. I didn't like the guy in this book he was SO perfect the whole time I read it didn't seem real you can actually predict exactly what he'll do and when he would do it. I just couldn't finish it.
Gina's a great story teller. Kira and Jason, butting heads, loving one day, confused ehere it's going the next. Underated, unapriciated, misscommunications. A teenager smarter than the adults. Eventually everyone gets it together!
Cute story overall but the typos were really distracting. I did enjoy reading about a guy that wasn't wishy washy for a change and woman who put her job and child first
I love a good office romance and Gina Drayer's Modern Girl's Guide to Office Romance is sexy and sweet everything needed.
Kira is the backbone of Millenial Advertising, so when they needed a new partner to run the New York office she thought for sure it was her job, but when it was given to the founding partners younger brother Kira knew that she was under appreciated. Then when she meets Jason Cramer her world is shattered again when she sees the man she spent a night in a hotel room with, a night she doesn't remember as her new boss, her under qualified new boss. Now she has to work with him all the while keeping get her growing feelings at bay. Jason needs a fresh break from Chicago and his ex wife and taking a job in New York is just the new start he is looking for, even if it is working for his older brother. Meeting Kira in a hotel bar and spending the night with her just talking was amazing and he is looking forward to seeing her again, but when the first meeting doesnt go as planned he starts to step back. Then when he spends more time with her Jason knows he just found the girl of his dreams. Now he just needs to convince her. This being the first book of Ms Drayer's I read it was surprised to find that this is book 5 in this series. I didn't feel like I missed anything and could easily step into this world she created. Told in 3rd person POV I really enjoyed the narrative and dialog between the 2 main characters. There where a few loose ends that I wanted more clarity around but all in all I really enjoyed this story and will go back and read the other books in the series.
I have never come across this author until I was given the opportunity of an ARC and I wasn't too sure if it was my kind of romance, especially having never read the others in the series but, Gina Drayer does an amazing job with this book. It had me laughing out loud, having 'ahhhhh' moments with the sweetness of the relationships that develop and having times when I needed to be left alone so I could read a few sexy scenes between the sheets!
Jason is a sexy and sweet man who knows what he wants. Kira is a widow trying to raise a teenager and build a successful career. Both characters are hurt from past relationships and are understandable gun-shy but of course the fun begins when after a one night stand at a friend's wedding, both meet at the office and what was originally meant to be a release turns into something much deeper. I loved how Gina develops the story and how it plays out so that they struggle professionally and personally and not just leap into a relationship. There are lots of moments when you are unsure whether this second chance romance truly will work out but the HEA is beautifully written.
Yes this seems to be part of a 'Modern Girls Guide to...' series but having only read this one, I don't think you need to have read any of the others to enjoy this one! If you like a sweet and at times funny second chance romance story, this one is certainly worth adding to your TBR pile!
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reading Copy of this book.
Kira met a man at a wedding for a work friend and spent the night with him just talking, but she drank too much and can't remember much about the evening. She is on her way back home and thought she would never see him again, but instead he becomes her new boss. She is scared to get into a relationship and he just got out of a marriage. Fun office romance storyline. The story also shows how women are overlooked in the workplace for promotions. I voluntarily reviewed this book.
Another great addition to this series. I love that you can relate to all of these women. They are real and you can't always find that in romance novels.
This fun office romance was witty and amusing. I wasn't sure about Kira's character at first, but having been a single mom, I came to understand her attitude toward dating. The story was interesting, if a bit drawn out at times, and I didn't have any trouble following the storyline. Overall, this was an enjoyable read and I will check out other works from this author.
Modern Girl's Guide to Office Romance by Gina Drayer This is Jason Carver and Kira Clark's story.
Jason and Kira end up working together. The chemistry between them is really intense. Problem number one is that Jason is her boss. Problem number two is that Kira is a widow raising her teenage daughter and needs her job.
I loved the banter between Kira and Jason's characters. They were funny, flirty, and even aggravated each other at times. As you get to know Jason you can't help but fall in love with him. He knows what he wants but can he convince Kira to take a chance on love?
FYI, contains mature content. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Gina is a new author to me and i will be looking out for more of her books. I enjoyed the storyline and the characters. Sweet romance that had me giggling and swooning. Well written story - I would recommend.
I love this series. Absolutely love it and all of Gina Drayer’s other books are in my TBR list – minus the Paranormal romance genre. This book is the 5th in the series, and even though it probably could be read as a standalone, I would not recommend it. Nonetheless, I highly recommend you read the first 4 books in the series anyways. This series is listed in my top favorite books/authors review! (Psst… here’s the link to that) and I even listed her first book Modern Girls Guide to Vacation Flings in my top 15 favorite fake relationship blog. (Which can be viewed here)
Jason Carver and Kira Clark meet at a wedding, except the night is a blur for both. Well mostly for Kira. So the last thing she expects is to see Jason at her work. Let alone taking the job that she feels like she overly deserved. Jason is ready to do everything within his power to win Kira over. He has yet to met a women like her, especially after having a horrible marriage with his ex-wife. Kira guards not only her heart but her life as well. In her defense she has a teenager that isn’t a normal average girl. Plus her last marriage to her late husband wasn’t the best either. But Jason is determined, and Kira is the only one in his sights. With a little help with her daughter, Jason will win Kira over… no matter what.
Although this book may not have been my favorite in the whole series, I did enjoy it. It was very down to earth and partial which you don’t see in romance books often. Everything that happened in this novel are things that could possibly come up in real life.

Second chance at love for both the H and h. I liked the author's writing style. A truly lovely story with interesting characters and some good life lessons. If you are thinking about dipping your pen in the company's ink you should read this. Even if you are not, it's a great story.
I'm going with 4 stars but that's a little bit generous. While there were some moments that were sweet and/or sexy, I didn't particularly care for Kira or Jason. She was way too wishy-washy and his initial behavior seemed completely like workplace sexual harassment.
Kira is all business all the time yet when she goes to a Wedding for someone she works for she ends up waking up in a weird hotel room the next morning with a strange Man with no memory of what went on in said hotel room. Jason finds a woman worth spending time with at a Wedding and they spend all night getting to know each other yet the next morning she walks out without saying the right name thinking he will never see her again but when he takes over his new position she walks in and its a start to a new romance.
What I enjoyed most about Modern Girls Guide to Office Romance is watching how Kira living through so much in her life with a daughter and is used to taking care of her and not really having a happy ever after life for herself, Seeing Jason come in the picture and how they have this instant attraction and connection and how at every time it gets scary she tries to push him away yet Jason not letting her. While they go back in forth its Kira's daughter that sets them straight and became the young adult that Kira didnt see happen but made her change her ways.
This book is amazing I loved every minute of it. This book has Kira a woman all about doing her job well and raising her teenage daughter and that is about as interesting as her life gets until she meets Jason at a Wedding, Jason a man who has been through a bad Divorce and not looking to settle down with any woman until he meets Kira and then things change as she is a woman worth settling down for. If you like stories like this, then Modern Girls Guide to Office Romance is a must!
