Rosie Gilmour is hot on the trail of a ring of baby-sellers and people-traffickers. The problem is, her main suspect is a dead man. Or is he? The ninth nail-biting Rosie Gilmour thriller, for fans of Kimberley Chambers and Jessie Keane.

'CHILLING AND COMPELLING' KIMBERLEY CHAMBERS

When respectable accountant Alan Lewis disappears in Romania, Rosie Gilmour, like most others, thinks little of it. He's done a runner, or committed suicide. But when a known gangster turns up dead in the flat of his grieving widow Helen, Rosie's attention is grabbed completely.

Soon she is sucked into the world of Lewis's shady adoption charity - offering Romanian orphans for sale to the highest bidder, and trafficking slave workers into Glasgow through empty aid lorries. Bringing those involved to justice will take all her cunning and all her grit, and a good dose of luck to make sure they don't catch her first.

But there is also danger at home for Rosie - just how did that body end up in Helen Lewis's flat? How much did she know about her husband's disappearance? And how far would she go to protect her secrets?

A must buy-must read. A gripping, gritty thriller that will have you hooked from the first page! If you like reading Martina Cole books you will love the tension in The Hit by Anna Smith. Helen came from a poverty background. When Helen met accountant Alan Lewis and she found out that he was loaded of course Helen liked loaded. Alan treated his wife Helen to the good life, travelling with dinning at the best restaurants.  I'm not rich but I certainly would miss a few pennies more being taken out of my account. But Alan had so much money that he didn't miss a few grand or so missing from his bank account. Watch out Helen is moving his money around into her account, but why? Then out of the blue she bumps into an old friend Frankie Mallon who dare I say that they both hatched a plan to get rid of her husband Alan.  I couldn't believe that Helen could be so cruel. Had Frankie ever killed before? With Helen Lewis's husband now missing, she kills Frankie Mallon in her flat. It appears that after all Helen Lewis is a very dangerous woman. I engaged in so much depth with all the characters and thrilling twists that I found myself speeding along with this story. I can't wait to read another novel by Anne Smith. With never knowing what is going to happen next I strongly recommend The Hit.

It looks like this might be the end of a great series. There’s been so many ups and downs, twists and turns, but it’s been one heck of a ride. The Hit was true to form as Rosie was chasing and trying to expose a criminal organisation selling babies. It’s a chase across Europe and as usual a dangerous one. There has been quite a few close calls for Rosie and her friends in the last few books, and not all of them have made it out alive, which makes for a thrilling read to say the least.

I’m not sure if this will be the last book or not, going by the ending I think it very well could be. In a way I’m sad to leave these characters, but on the other hand, it is better go out with a bang while on top rather than dragging things out indefinitely. Besides, Rosie and her friends do need a break, deserves to truly recover and be for a while. Be happy. Live.

Maybe a while till the next Rosie, as Anna Smith is starting a new crime series due out soon - but what a cracker to leave us waiting for more - page-turning drama right through and incredible climax.

Go Rosie Gilmour!!! Hope you're thinking of writing the 10th book in this series Anna, why stop something that works so well? Could read your sort of books like this all day every day and love the way you write about the things that are actually happening in our world right now that we hear on the news more and more and even the things that are happening out there that maybe we don't hear about so much, well done

Just brilliant!!! Enjoyed every one of the books in this series so much that half way through each one I would buy and download the next one so that as soon as I had finished the one I was reading I you liter

This is book 9 in the Rosie Gilmour series and it just keeps getting better with each book. Just when you think a series has delivered everything.....then Anna Smith packs a punch with this one. Compelling and well written from the first page, fans will not be disappointed by this book. I started reading this book with my breakfast and suffice to say, I was still engrossed by lunchtime! Rosie Gilmour is one of my all time favourite characters and Anna Smith is one of the best crime writers in Scotland. This episode sees Rosie involved with dodgy charities, murder, Romanian orphans and people trafficking. Start with book one in the series and you will not be disappointed. Thank you very much to Net Galley for my copy.

this is the first book i've read by this author and i'd like to thank Netgalley and the publishers for the opportunity of reading an advanced copy of The Hit in exchange for an honest review.

well what can i say this book has everything! it gripped me from the first page and i couldn't wait to find out the ending! the story covers murder, prostitution, baby-selling and people smuggling! Rosie Gilmour is an investigation editor for a scottish newspaper always on the look out for a new, big story! i believe this is the 9th book in the series and there is enough references to the past to make you want to read the back catalogue but not enough to stop you understanding the present storyline.

i would highly recommend this book.

Rosie Gilmour, an investigative journalist from Scotland becomes intrigued when a body turns up in the apartment of a wealthy widow, whose husband disappeared in Romania a few months earlier. Nothing much is reported about this disappearance in the local press, but the dead body brings it all into the open.
Rosie and her good friend Adrienne from Bosnia, get involved in a convoluted scheme to steal babies from Romanian orphanages , when they also discover that newborns are being stolen from Mothers (who are told their babies were stillborn) and sold to wealthy couples.
Once again Rosie puts herself in the firing line and risks her life and that of her friends to get to the bottom of the story.
This time things do not go well for them all.

And breathe

Wow, I have loved all 9 of these books in the Rosie Gilmour series and can't believe they are finished, I mean what do I read now? Anna Smith has spoiled me with all that has gone on in her exceptional books. Rosie Gilmour, journalist for the Post, resides in Glasgow and has at least 12 lives, her exploits, her determination to do right for the poor unfortunate people who cross her path while doing a job that she loves, will leave you sitting on the edge of your seat and cheering her on. I just loved these books and can't recommend them enough for anyone to read. The topics are current and hard hitting, but this talented author is so good at her craft , she has you cheering for Rosie and all the people she helps along the way.

This is the first book I've read by Anna Smith and I'm completely hooked in fact I've I've downloaded the whole series. There are plenty of references to the previous storylines so I didn't feel at a disadvantage starting late in the series.
I devoured it in one sitting, a fast paced, gritty thriller with lots of twists. An excellent read that I thoroughly recommend.
Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for my advance copy in return for an honest review.

The Hit is sadly the last in the Rosie Gilmour series. After reading Rough Cut, I bought all nine of Anna Smith's excellent crime thrillers.
Crime reporter Rosie puts herself in danger once again in an effort to expose a Romanian babies for sale scandal, disguised as a bonafide charity. The author has consistently kept readers on the edge of their seats, and the final book does not disappoint.
I look forward to reading more of her work. Highly recommended.

Another enthralling read where Rosie's life potentially hangs in the balance. I really do enjoy Anna's books - so easy to read and get you hooked from the beginning. I'm not sure how believable the plot lines are when Rosie's life is threatened in every single novel but hey, that doesn't detract from the enjoyment.

Having read all of the Rosie Gilmour series this year I've been eagerly awaiting this instalment. It was another action-packed novel and I did enjoy it but felt the plot lacked originality. Lots of threads got tied up at the end so wondering if this is the last in the series....

A great read for fans of novels by Martina Cole and others similar.
I read this over a weekend and it's an easy read but none the less enjoyable for it.
Some dark, disturbing moments but no worse than many others I've read.
