This is an excellent collection of stories that really won me over.

I'll start by saying I didn't like the first story. In fact it took me twenty pages to get used to the writing style, which I would say is deliberately anti-trend: where flash is becoming more and more popular, this is the opposite, languorous and obsessed with minutiae; where masculine writing is eschewed in literary circles as anachronistic, this is certainly that. I might go so far as to say this may be more aimed at a male audience. Readers should steel themselves for a lot of grubby detail. I really enjoyed the grubby detail.

It's brave writing and honest writing, and it was an easy and highly-enjoyable read, after that slightly dull first story. The collection gets stronger and stronger, and the last couple of stories are excellent.

Buy it. Read it. Support your local ex-pat Argentinian writer. It's great.

ps. UK audience, be aware that some of the vernacular is adapted for a US audience, and get the fuck over it.
