For years, Kathie Cassidy suffered in silence, determined that no one would ever find out she'd fallen in love with her beloved sister's fiance! And then the unthinkable happened. Her sister's longtime engagement was over --- and she, unbelievably, was marrying someone else. Joe was a free man. But what kind of girl would go after her sister's ex-fiance?
Joe Reed was a man with a plan. For years, he was engaged to one woman. Now he'd been dumped, but he couldn't even bring himself to care. Because inexplicably, he was falling for Kathie --- his ex-fiancee's sister. Which was not in the plan. But then he kissed her ...
And his safe, predictable existence shattered on a dime.
This book seemed like a continuation of a series, but you didn't need to know what had gone on previously in order to follow what was happening. It was a decent quick read.
Typical harlequin romance, but it did have some enjoyable moments.
My biggest issues were that the story seemed rushed and I felt like we came into the story late. Major events have already occurred that are discussed in the past that we, as the reader, we're not involved in. Because we had no idea what was going on with the characters during those prior events, the story seems to rush it's way through the romance.
That isn't to say there weren't moments I didn't laugh, cause there were, but I if you are looking for something with more depth or conflict, this isn't it. There is some conflict, but it is mostly easily resolved and the only reason it is dragged out is the characters don't talk to each other about the issues. That can be annoying.
Overall, it was okay. I might pick it up again in a few years, but I'm not in a rush to read it again. If you are looking for something quick with a happy ending and a couple of laughs then this is the book you could enjoy for that.
3.5 stars. This book is the third in a series of 4 books, but unfortunately this is not anywhere on the cover to tell you, nor does it tell you in the authors book list at the front of the book. This lead to a lot of mentions about previous actions/incidences that could have maybe used a flashback for the important ones.
Now to the story itself.... I liked it, it was interesting and had lots happening. I found myself feeling really sorry for Joe, and if I was him, I would have left that judgemental unpleasant town or gotten an a lawyer due to the police harassment. There were some very funny parts in the book, yet others that I know were supposed to be funny, just had me feeling bad for the poor guy. Now the h, Kathie, was very cardboard and really weepy. This left me wondering why her? So, for me the humour that was in the book saved this from being a disappointing read.
