A Mind Sweeper Flashback Short Story (A companion story to the Mind Sweeper series)

This story is a prequel. Reading Mind Sweeper, the first book in the series, will greatly enhance your reading experience of this book.

Find out where it all began…

Nineteen-year-old Kyle McKinley is having a really bad day. She gets caught stealing, her boyfriend abandons her, and—oh yeah—apparently, vampires, demons, and other beasties actually exist. What’s a girl to do?

Accept a job offer with a paranormal shadow-type agency…

This is the story of how Kyle’s world is turned upside down and she meets her teammates, vampire Jean Luc and demon Misha, for the first time. And as usual, there’s a mystery with a paranormal twist to solve, and Kyle learns about herself in the process.

About the author

A.E. Jones

Growing up a TV junkie, award winning author AE Jones oftentimes rewrote endings of episodes in her head when she didn’t like the outcome. She immersed herself in sci-fi and soap operas. But when Buffy hit the little screen she knew her true love was paranormal. Now she spends her nights weaving stories about all variation of supernatural—their angst and their humor. After all life is about both…whether you sport fangs or not.

AE won RWA’s Golden Heart® Award for her paranormal manuscript, Mind Sweeper, which also was a RWA RITA® finalist for both First Book and Paranormal Romance. AE was also a recipient of the Booksellers Best Award for her book, Sentinel Lost.

AE lives in Ohio surrounded by her eclectic family and friends who in no way resemble any characters in her books. Honest. Now her two cats are another story altogether.

Perfect bite sized walk down memory lane

The synopsis is already posted so I will not repeat that here. This prequel is perfect for fans of the Mind Sweeper series who have been missing their adventures with Kyle, Jean-Luc said Misha but be warned, if you have not yet read the series this is NOT the book to start with as Jones is just giving her fans some much appreciated fill in. There is no character development or world building that will make sense to a newbie so PLEASE, do NOT start with the any prequel and then give a one or two star rating because you felt As though you were coming in at the end of a series. That is pretty much what you would be doing. As for the rest of us with this short story Jones takes us back to the very beginning and gives us a closer look at how and why Kyle became a member of the team as well as another glimpse into her first interactions with the team members.

Is this the perfect prequel well, for me it was because I love all things Mind Sweeper and have been checking for a new book in the series almost weekly. There ARE gaps but that is because this was Kyle's first story and there are two other prequels which provide additional peeks into what was going on with Kyle during that first year. And yes I already read all three, it was like trying to just eat one potato chip at a picnic. Call me greedy but I would still enjoy reading so many more adventures of the BSR. I don't know about anybody else but for me Nicholas is still pretty much a mystery as is Jean-Luc, French vampire of mystery and who doesn't love Misha, the demon equivalent of an teddy bear (with a bottomless pit for a stomach)? I would much rather prefer Jones concentrate on writing this series than the Paranormal Wedding Planners.

So if you are hungry for more Mind Sweeper, just a taste mind you, and you want to learn the low down surrounding Kyle, Jack, Stanley and where it all began this is the first of three (currently) short stories/novellas available and ready for you to download. Go ahead, you know you want to. Currently .99 it's a perfect length for a quick lunch time read or maybe you need something to help you unwind before bedtime 🌙. Then I hope you will all join me and help convince the author that this is definitively a series which needs to continue. Happy reading 📚.

Flashback 10 years . . . Kyle felt like she was just chasing her tail with no plan or direction. Her boyfriend, Jack, walked into the diner to tell her she would have to go to the casino again. They needed more money and, although she was underage, her ability to alter memories allowed her to win easily. She didn’t want to do it, but he promised it would be the last time. Needless to say, Kyle gets caught cheating and Jack abandons her! What will happen to her now? Is it jail for her? Or will her “talents” be recognized and used another way?

This is a prequel that gives a wonderful introduction to Kyle and how she had a major change in her life. She needed purpose; she needed family. This prequel is definitely enough to interest the reader in the rest of the series! And this fills in the gaps in the stories very nicely indeed!

This is a great treat for those who love the series and want to learn more about the characters. In this short prequel, you learn more about Kyle and how she ended up working with her crew. It is a great story and I look forward to reading the others.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

I loved this short story, i read mind sweeper before this one so i loved seeing an insight to the time when all met for the first time. Kyle is so very different in this book as she is younger and very jaded with very little trust for anyone and feeling like she doesn't fit in with anyone. I loved how they initially met and you experience everything that Kyle is feeling throughout this encounter. This book gives you a window into Kyle’s life up to the point of her become part of this organisation that protects supernaturals, you see why she acts a certain way and her emotions are more raw as she is still very young and a lot has happened to her.I love how she takes to using her gift to help people for good but it's not just her gift, she has a personality that some may see as confrontational but i love her for it, she says what needs to be said and when people take her side it is unmovable.

I loved loved loved this and my view on how amazing this authors writing is has just soared higher than it was and i didn't think that was possible after reading Mindsweeper. I highly recommend this book but i would read Mindsweeper before reading this book. I am dying to read more of this world and i am a huge follower of this author's work now!!!

I really enjoyed reading this book. It involves how Kyle got her start in the supernatural bureau, and how she came to know her co-workers there and found her place in life. From running cons to becoming an asset with a paid position...it's a rags to riches type of story with quite the supernatural twist.

I received a copy of this ebook from the author in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.
