This was first published on my blog " Lecture toute une Aventure"

A very good surprise! Somehow i wasn't expecting this story to be so good so, discovering how much i enjoyed, it was great.

The beginning isn't the best as we jump from a place to another without really knowing who to follow but once we meet with the team and with the hero: Fenix -passing for boy but in reality a young woman- we can't stop. The intrigue is well written with some information given sometimes clearly sometimes more subtly but we really get all we could wish for to understand the characters and let grow on us. Of course it's the first in a series so there are more to discover but the main plot of the book is solved so no big cliffhanger to make us despair but just an ending making us want for more without anguish.
I loved Fenix, she is quite loyal and has deep sense of justice, she may not know what she is at first but certainly act as it and i can only it will continue to show later in the series. She suffered but still can put others first, she isn't just a damsel in distress jumping in the rm of the first male playing the knight in shining armor. She may be attracted but she still thinks and put trust before attraction so for me she was simply perfect and so courageous.
Her little gang isn't bad either i particularly love java the falcon shifter and the healing witch for whom money isn't a priority.

Micha is an intriguing vampire....though his age didn't make him less naive. He is one wanting to protect the supernaturals and playing judge and enforcer but if a special class existed to do that before there must have been a good reason and from what we discover how important they were and how needed they still are despite what some thought at a time. Vampire master he may be but he would prefer to be human and have peace between human and supernatural world. Discovering Fenix 's secret but keeping it while being attracted and going against protocol to try to be with her he is a little too arrogant and speak without thinking...but even with his pride wounded he does keep his promise which show how loyal he can be as well.

So far we learned the name of the big bad vilain and what he did (and why) but he is still quite mysterious so the series could be very promising if the quality stay the same, the main idea magic/ psychic peacemaker/peacesmith is interesting and i would gladly follow it as Fenix, like us has still a lot to learn and allies to make.

In a world were there are hundreds of thousands of different books at our fingertips, it's difficult to write something truly original- often it's in the way a story is told rather than the plot points that make it special. And so it is with Magic Reborn- individually none of the elements seem impressive, but as a whole the writing sparkles. It's enjoyable, emotional, like a friend you adore despite or maybe because of them not having anything outstandingly interesting about them but because you like them and can relate to them.

The strongest point in this novel is the main character Fenix- I only realised halfway through her name was likely pronounced like Phoenix not fen-icks like my brain had read, but really that just improved the character in my eyes. She's a sassy little bad ass who doesn't give up and to whom courage and loyalty are everything. She's had shit go down in her life, she's not afraid to feel sad and mad and bad, but she's still going to dust herself off and keep trying whenever shit hits the fan.

Micha the vampire is a bit of a cliché- the handsome powerful bad ass vampire with a heart of gold? Eric Northman is a much more palatable name than Micha Angelo- but that doesn't make him any less enjoyable to read about. (For what it's worth, Fenix is likely a lot tougher than Sookie too, despite the lack of telepathy).

A really solid debut novel; I am looking forward to reading more from Carly Hansen.
I received a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

rcvd an advanced reader copy for giving my two cents. i wasnt too sure what to make of this book at the beginning but i got hooked! we meet Fenix, a young woman disguised as a boy, working for a witch and hiding from her past. a very handsome man comes knocking at Alda's shop asking for help and that man is a vampire who needs helps solving 3 murders. fenix and her fellow comrades head out to investigate and get blood samples from each victim. the funny thing is that when fenix gets her sample, she is immediately thrown into a vision of the young girls death...by vampire, not by werewolf as Micha thought. when fenix is back with the gang, she touches each vial and has the same visions. the next thing fenix knows is that she is chasing a group of men who are after a girl and she must find the girl before its too late. a man in a purple cloak saw what happened and when he is found, a 3 headed beast is after her and Micha. Drama drama drama. the man, Gaius, is an apprentice of sorts in the Order and informs Fenix of who and what she really is.. a peacesmith and the last one. he also tells her about her family and she cant comprehend what she has been told. Fenix learns that the vampires are holding the girl hostage but not just any girl...her sister who she thought died in the fire so long ago. Micha tells fenix he will help along with his second in command...who has gone MIA. at Micha's work, fenix uses her "essence" as Gaius calls it and finds out who took her sister...but its someone who should be a part of the good guys, not the bad guys. Will fenix find her sister? will she make is out alive and finally be able to use her powers? will micha figure out what she is? cant wait for the next book!

The story opened up with a bit of a mystery and I was hooked. I just had to see who the mysterious men were and what was going on. This is the story of Fenix, who we meet in the beginning who left home early to escape her abusive father and learned from living on the street as a young teen to dress and act like a boy. She ends up working for a "good" witch Alda with a group of other young men and running errands for Alda (who I thought was a blast). Then Alda, and therefore Fenix, ends up blackmailed (ok find of) into looking into the mysterious deaths of 3 young women in a different town then the one they live in. And by some strange coincidence the deaths take place in Fenix's home town and we learn more about her background that plays a part in the rest of the story. Well written, it was full of action, a couple mysteries, and funny scenes here and there. The book had vampires, witches , and a shape-shifting blade that made the story better. I just really liked the story and cannot wait to see what happens next. It was a bit different then the usual urban fantasy so I was hooked. Should be a blast.I received a copy of this book from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honest review.

I'm always looking for new fantasy books to read, so when I came across this one and when it sounded like it had a very unique premise , I was excited to read it!
Fenix was a great main character! She has faced a lot in life and has now disguised herself like a boy and runs errands for a witch with her gang. But there's something very unusual about her and it doesn't help that she has unique powers which come closer to the surface everyday. When a vampire overlord seeks out the witch's assistance in solving few murders, Fenix is thrust into an entirely new world where her life may change.

The book was fastpaced and beautiful just as the blurb promises.I have a weakness for kickass female MCs, so i wasn't a surprise that I really enjoyed this one!Micah Angelo was an intriguing character who plays such an important role and I loved how the relationship between him and Fenix developed! The cast of supporting characters were well fleshed out and the world building was beautiful and completely original!
I look forward to reading the next in the series!

Fenix is a girl trying to pass as a boy in a harsh world. She knows that she is not normal and tries to hide that she can start fires with her hands. She discovers that she can also heal on a mission that went a little wrong. She works for a licensed witch (they are allowed to have 4 normal people as helpers). Most of the world doesn't know what really exists out there but there are rumors. When a vampire comes to the witch for help, Fenix doesn't know what to think of him. She helps him and seems to be drawn to him. She is trying to help him solve who killed 3 girls in the town she grew up in and when returning to the witch finds that a 4th has been kidnapped and for some reason she is drawn to save this girl. This story has some great action and a hint of romance and mystery. It is a great read and i can't wait for the next book.

I loved the concept and story, girl hiding from her past, disguising herself as a male, kicks ass. Some of the writing was fresh and I liked how the author got me into the story. The book started off really strong but I got frustrated by the end. I've book needs a good editing as tHere were several places where wrong words were used, or the author used her instead of him when the main character was being talked about. In one spot it was so bad I had to skip over because it was confusing me. Another thing that frustrated me was how the love aspect was portrayed. The beginning was okay, but the closer towards the end it got kind of corny and rather cringe worthy. But overall, it was a great story and I am definitely interested I the sequel.

Fenix struggled with an abusive father after her mother died when she was young. She feared that she had destroyed her family home and what was left of her family. She found herself on the streets and discovered it safer to pretend to be a boy. She finds herself to have powers she couldn't explain and an identity that is confusing and rare. Even more confusing are her emerging feelings for Micha, an ancient vampire. Her devotion to those she cares about and her willingness to put her own life in danger to help them makes her an endearing character. New supernatural characters are utilized in this fantasy story, which makes it unique. I look forward to reading about Fenix, as she learns about her powers and explores a world in which she is powerful enough not to hide.

Magic Reborn

When I read the synopsis and reviews I was super excited to read it. I love fantasy, adventure, and magic this seemed to have it all.

I was a bit worried at the beginning, it was a little hard to get into. It was a little jumpy and you weren't sure what was going on and I really wasn't sure who was telling the story.

Once you get past that first battle you start to get the story. Fenix is a hard and lost soul and you soon feel her pain and strength.

The further you read the better it gets. I was soon pulled in and couldn't put it down.

Definitely, give it a read. Don't stop if confused with the beginning keep going you won't be sorry, but you will be in for your next great read.
I will be looking at more of Carly Hansen books.

Magic Reborn, book 1 in the Peacesmith series by Carly Hansen is a 5 star read.
Fenix Greystone ran away from home after a fire killed her father and sister, living on the streets is hard for a girl so she decides to hide out as a boy, she gets taken in by a witch called Alda who trains her to fight supernaturals along side a crew of 3 other boys, but Fenix has more secrets and when vampire Micha shows up looking for Alda’s help things start to change for Fenix but rather than run again she stands and fights and finds out the life she’s always known was a lie.
This was a new author for me, so I wasn’t sure what to expect but I was hooked from the first page and I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

Well written, but

The logic is sorely lacking. Why doesn't the vampire step in and save the girl with the pink hair? Why is magic so powerful, but so poorly used? There are major plot holes that skew the motivations and actions of the characters beyond recognition. Boomerangs are hard to throw and return, even harder if it actually hits something. How did she learn to use one in the woods? The magic weapon breaks and she just puts the pieces back together?!?

In the beginning, I was lost. In the middle I was found, and moving along nicely. In the end, all I could do was wonder why the magic wasn't put to better use. But, I loved the "girl with the sword" cover (which is why I picked it). Overall, it is a Vampire/Magic story that makes you think. I received this book from eBook Discovery. This is my honest review.

New beginnings

Fenis is our lead character and this book is the first in her story. She has no idea who or what she is and she's afraid of the uncontrollable power she has. With the help of her friends and new acquaintances she's off to save her sister. Her family is important to her and she will risk anything for them.

The prose is pedestrian at best and the plot setup is pretty cliche, but the nail in the coffin for me was the third time the author had a male character threaten or commit violence against a female character to create tension in the story. DNW. (Recced to me by my neighbor.)

This is the first book I have read by this author, but it won’t be my last. It was written very well, I really liked the characters, and the plot was very intriguing. At first, at the very beginning, the book seemed a little slow, but soon that resolved itself, and from then on, I was completely engrossed in the story. Fenrix is a very interesting character, and I can’t wait for more books to see her grow. If you like NA, urban fantasy, this is an author to keep an eye on. Highly recommend! This same review will be posted on both Goodreads and Amazon.

I received an ARC of this story through Hidden Gems and this is my honest and voluntary review.
I really enjoyed this story, though the beginning feels a little scattered as we are introduced to different situations in different parts of the world to set up the story. Once you're past the beginning though, there was a lot of action which kept the story moving and made this feel like a fast read! Fenix makes a wonderful, strong heroine and I can't wait to read the next book!

I received this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This book starts with us witnessing the gruesome murder of a young girl, all from her point of view, leading us to feel as if we woke up from a bad dream, meeting our heroine Fenix, who is one badass young woman. Fenix has to keep her gender secret, so she dresses as a young boy, hiding her feminine qualities even from those closest to her. Little does she know, one person who is her protector knows her secret plus one other that not even Fenix understands. This story takes us through a tale of magic, with witches, vampires and werewolves, as well as other not so known supernatural creatures of the night. Someone is trying to start a war between these supernaturals’ and Fenix really becomes their last hope if she can learn to control her powers.
I gave four stars to this book only because it was so entertaining and the ending really did it for me, not being your typical storybook ending. For a first book, I think this series has great potential and deserves your attention, it has a few flaws but once you get used to the authors writing style I found it to be a quick, enjoyable read.

I received Magic Reborn, as a free book from the author (via BookFunnel). The gifting did not determine the review/rating, which reflects my honest opinion. A really interesting story and a wide array of characters to keep things interesting. The action was steady, with some nice tense moments revolving around the center-piece of the story--a girl pretending to be a boy. Fenix's magical identity was unique, and the conflict she experienced about using her powers was a nice touch. A good read and a series to watch as this plot develops.

Magic Reborn was a breath of fresh air for me! It's style was a reminder of the kind of book that sparked my love of reading years (and years lol) ago. Books that weren't packed with numerous storylines to form a complex plot or characters performing act after act of overly fantastical feats to be considered a good read.

Author, Carly Hansen, weaves a tale that from the very start grips you with fear for the safety for a young woman alone in a tent in the forest in the town of Bristall. You soon learn of the grisly events of that night which are not as clear as they were made to appear and wholeheartedly want to discover the answer to who or what is responsible. Hansen's protagonist, Fenix, is a girl endowed with magical powers that she herself has not explored the capabilities of and has kept secret from all who know her. Fenix is part of a "gang" of four living with and running tasks for a witch. These tasks often lead up to serious physical confrontations with demons or monsters of various ilk and it's evident that her magic wants to manifest but Fenix uses great will to block it. All this leaves the reader dying to know why! Hansen keeps the story moving concisely and you become more invested in finding these answers and more that come up along the way.

What I loved most about Magic Reborn was Hansen's perfect touch, not too heavy and not too light, toward all things preternatural. It's a testament to the author's skillful writing that as an adult I was able to experience that sense of wonder, as I had as a young reader, in the realm of possibilities that long held myths could actually turn out be true. It's plausible that vampires do exist, that magic is the source of obscure events and opens the door to other eventualities.

An easy but no less intriguing read that leaves you delighted that it's the first book in a series so you're able to sate your appetite for more!

A thoroughly enjoyable tale of magic and discovery. Fenix is a young woman who has had a hard life and is finally comfortable with a group of rag tag young men who run errands for a witch. Disguised as a boy, she starts coming into powers that she doesn't know how to control. When a vampire comes to the witch asking for a favor everything changes in her life. I read this twice and both times I was caught up in the story even knowing what would happen.

Magic Reborn The Peacesmith Series book 1 A New Adult Urban Fantasy Novel by Carly Hansen

This book was fantastic! I loved it. Such a clever story with a strong female character that you will adore. Fenix and her gang have a strong bond and their adventure is exciting and entertaining.
I loved Alda the Witch, she's a snarky one, Great character. Fenix works for her along with the rest of the gang. I also loved Micah Angelo a Vampire that will become one of Fenix's Allies and help her with a quest that she will embark on. Fenix a runaway will find out who she is and what powers she truly possesses. I can't wait to read book 2.

I give Magic Reborn 5 stars for its clever story and great characters.
I would recommend this story to everyone.
