Sally, or Sal as her friends and family call her, just can’t seem to stay out of trouble. It’s not that she tries to find trouble wherever she goes, it’s just that trouble always seems to find her. And when that trouble means a threat to her life? Well things do get a little sticky, and not just because her best friend, Josie, who is also her partner at Sally’s Samples Bakeshop, uses her best batch of whoopee pies as missiles to slather a potential threat to Sal’s life. It all started when Sal went to test cake samples for her wedding cake, which is another complicated story within the plot, and another bride-to-be is shot dead right next to her. The plot only thickened after that, as Sal realized that she had been the intended target and, although there is only a week until her wedding, there is a growing list of suspects out there who might want this bride dead before her wedding day.
Catherine Bruns mystery, “Frosted With Revenge”, is another “A Cookies and Chance Mystery”, which partners the sweets of a bakery with the mystery of murder and mayhem. With delightful characters, the plot develops with heightening tension as the killer gets closer to the target, Sally, the bride-to-be and the owner of Sally’s Samples Bakeshop. A sprinkling of humor eases the tension, only to have it thicken as the plot develops further. With multiple twists and turns, and lots of sweet surprises, this is a delightful read and a good mystery.
Sally and Mike are getting married. And if the usual chaos before a wedding isn't enough, add Sally's mom who has turned into a Momzilla and her death obsessed dad who has started a death blog.
A week before her wedding at her cake tasting another bride to be is shot in the head. While shaken Sally continues getting ready for her big day. But when death threats a veiled death appears on her dad's blog, Sally decides to investigate along with her bff Josie and tagging along is the P I that Mike hired to protect her. Things become scary when Josie is shot while wearing Sally's coat.
As always the characters came to life. And gave me an enjoyable read.
As much as I liked it I am a little tired of Sally's obsession with the fortune cookies. I'm to the point that instead of buying preprinted fortunes I want to scream print your own. And Mike's clingy and veiled jealousy is getting old for me.
Best characters are grandma Rosa and Mrs Gravelli. They tell it like it is.
As always the recipes are featured in the book. And I can't wait to try Mrs Gravelli's butterscotch triffle and Josie's cookies and cream wedding cake.
Because of some editing and continuity problems, just a few, it missed a five for me.
Fun read with great characters. Catherine keeps you guessing the whole way through. If you love an entertaining read filled with an eccentric family, cookies to die for, and a mystery to solve this is the book for you. I can't wait to find out what comes next.
I preodered this book when it was first available but let if slip down my extensive TBR list. I loved it! I think this is the best book of the series and I am sold on the series. The days leading up to Mike and Sally's wedding would be tough enough without that little extra problem!
Frosted with Revenge is the 4th book of the Cookies & Chance Mystery. I started this series off with the first book, Tastes Like Murder, as an audiobook I received free from the narrator. I was hooked, but the rest of the series isn't available as audiobooks, so I had to read them as e-books. This book didn’t disappoint. It seems a little far-fetched to see Sally getting herself into trouble again and again – but that is what also has kept me entertained in all the other books. Sally is a good person with a good family. I enjoy seeing how she will get herself intertwined in or get herself out of any mess. Josie, her partner, is funny, strong, and after this book, I found out she is a saint – having to deal with her 4 little boys. Sally and Mike had to babysit for them at one point and it was hilarious. I could just see in my head all the shenanigans these boys were getting into. Sally and her fiancé, Mike are just days away from their wedding, but someone has it out for Sally. After a simple cake tasting, Sally ends up being involved in a murder investigation. Later on she finds out that she may have been the intended target. This one kept me guessing!
“Frosted With Revenge” earns 5/5 Red Velvet Wedding Cakes with Vanilla Frosting!
Everything is coming up ‘roses’ for Sally Muccio (Mooch-EE-o) and her bakery Sally’s Samples. A recent fire caused Sally to relocate, but regulars are back, business is booming, and the fortune cookies continue to be…cryptic. The very long awaited wedding between Sally and Mike is only a week away, and Sally’s mother didn’t take “we only want a small family gathering” for an answer, so Sally is very stressed and resigned to deal with all the pre-wedding hoopla, including a last minute wedding cake tasting. However while enjoying some mouth-watering wedding cake samples, Bridezilla Alexandra Walston enters demanding immediate service. “Do you know who I am?!” Trying to help appease her ‘zilla’ demands Sally offers her a taste of her slice of raspberry torte…CRASH! Glass shatters, spraying everywhere, and Alexandra falls dead…a bullet expertly placed between her eyes! The investigation points to several suspects who would have wanted Alexandra dead, however, later, a shower gift note offers a different take on the murder, “Bang, bang. Next time I won’t miss.”
Catherine Bruns has done it again…baked up another delicious, suspense-filled mystery! The fourth book in her Cookies & Chance series just maybe the best one yet. Fans will be thrilled that the wedding is set, the bakery is in full swing, and another mystery puts them on the edge of their comfy chair….twists, turns, and more than a few possible solutions. However, newbies are not overlooked because enough background is provided to keep them seriously engaged in trying to determine who has motive and opportunity. The Muccio family continues to be explored with dad’s quirky “Father Death” blog oddly as comic relief, but family secrets being revealed and a mother/daughter dynamic causes serious angst. But with all that Catherine shows that the family bond, including those coming into the family, is strong easily leading to an interesting debate about “loss” and “moving on.” Catherine Bruns doesn’t forget to treat us ‘cozi-holics’ by enriching our experience with some delightful, easy-to-follow recipes for Maamoul Cookies (traditional Middle Eastern Cookies), Grandma Rosa’s Butterscotch Parfait and Zucchini Bread, and Josie’s Cookies ’n Crème Cake created as Sally’s wedding cake. Delicious! Dramatic! Definitely Entertaining!
The books in the Cookies & Chance Mysteries get tastier and tastier with every new title!
I’ve read this series since the first book, TASTES LIKE MURDER, and I always look forward to each new title. FROSTED WITH REVENGE was worth the wait and more! (Although, I’d be thrilled with, let’s say, one a month. That’s not too much to ask, is it, Ms. Bruns? )
My very favorite scenes in the series take place in the cookie shop. With the descriptions from author Catherine Bruns, I have a perfect vision of the entire shop. And I can always smell cookies baking when I’m reading those scenes. I adore protagonist, Sally “Sal” Muccio and her BFF, Josie Sullivan. They play so well off each other, be it in the cookie shop, Sally’s Samples, or out about town. Their scenes always make me laugh out loud, mostly due to something Josie has said. Especially when Josie has a go at regular customer, cranky Mrs. Gavelli.
As with the first three books in the series, FROSTED WITH REVENGE has a great whodunit that really kept me guessing. Author Bruns always delivers a mystery that has more twists and turns than a cookie has sprinkles or chips. There were also a few surprises in this story that had nothing to do with the mystery end of things. There was always something going on that made it impossible to set the book aside for even a moment. For me, this was a read in one setting book.
Be sure to check out the back of FROSTED WITH REVENGE for some great recipes. I’m not sure which tasty sounding treat I want to make first!
If you are a fan of Joanne Fluke’s Hannah Swensen titles, or just in general a culinary mystery fan, you are going to love FROSTED WITH REVENGE, and the entire Cookies & Chance Mystery series!
A fantastic cozy mystery, “Frosted with Revenge” is the fourth book in the “Cookies & Chance Mystery” series and should be read in order — it is full of spoilers.
Sally and Mike are trying to arrange their wedding, however Sally's mother is acting like a Bridezilla! and is arranging everything. Sally and Mile are prepared to go with the flow until another bride is shot in front of Sally ... and then it turns out that the original victim wasn't the intended one, Sally was! Now Sally needs to stay safe so that she can still say I do!
I really enjoyed this fourth book in the series. This one is just as fast paced, full of surprises, and fun to read as all the others. If you love mystery and suspense, you need to get this series and read , read, read.
I received an ARC from the publisher for purposes of an unbiased review.
Frosted With Revenge is the fourth book in Catherine Brun’s Cookies & Chance Mystery series. The writing style flows smoothly in this fast paced cozy whodunit. The storyline is well thought out with likeable, well-developed characters, an interesting mystery to solve, and a perfect mix of mystery, romance, a few quirky characters, and lots of humor. There are plenty of twists and turns, and red herrings, to keep the reader engaged. The reveal of villain surprised me.
Sally ‘Sal’ Muccio and Mike Donovan are getting married in a week and looking forward to their honeymoon in Hawaii. Sal and Josie Sullivan, her best friend and business partner, were devastated when their bakery, Sally’s Samples, went up in flames and Sally’s parents, Domenic and Maria, had insisted they ‘reopen’ their bakery in their home, which they reluctantly did even though they were worried that Sal’s parents’ antics might drive their customers away. In this installment, Sal and Josie have settled into their bakery’s new location, Maria has turned into a Momzilla, and Domenic has started a death blog. Trouble seems to follow Sal wherever she goes and while she and Mike are sampling wedding cakes at DeAngelo’s Bakery, Alexandra Walston, another bride-to-be who is giving Pepe, the shop’s owner, and Sal a hard time, stands in front of Sal is shot. Even though she’s shaken, she continues to run the bakery and prepare for her wedding but when ominous messages are left for her, Mike hires a bodyguard to protect her. Sal, along with Josie, is determined to figure out if she was the intended victim and, if so, find the culprit. Grandma Rosa, who is always mixing up the words in everyday cliché sayings, continues to give Sal sage advice.
During a last minute taste testing of their wedding cake, Sally and her fiancé are witnesses—and almost victims!—of a random shooting. At least they think it’s random, until an original fortune cookie message proves otherwise. Is someone after Sally? And why does the mysterious shooter want to ice the baker? So-so mystery, good recipes [they save the book], and old Italian women who are annoying. Don't need all the back story- read the first 3 books.
Sally Muccio is a bakery owner and part time amateur detective. Her wedding is coming up very soon. While she and her fiancé are cake testing, a woman in the bakery gets shot. Meanwhile, lookalike the shooting was actually aiming for Sally. Why is someone after Sally? What is going on ? And right before her wedding. When one of her closest friends gets shot, Sally decides it is time to investigate and find out what is going on before anyone else gets hurt. Hopefully before the wedding. Fast paced fun cozy lots of crazy characters!
Sally and Mike are finally on their way to the alter! They are both working feverishly to get everything done before the big day. Things go sideways when they go to their cake tasting and another bride is shot while standing in the window. Brian isn’t convinced the other bride was the target. Sal is determined to get the bottom of what is going on so she and Mike can marry in peace. Another great mystery!
Another great book by Catherine Bruns. Frosted with Revenge had my attention from the very beginning. I had a hard time putting this book down. I am looking forward to read more books by this author. I would recommend this book and this series to anyone looking for a good cozy mystery!

Love Sal and her family. Sal is getting ready for her wedding but someone is out to stop her life. Nothing like a good laugh at a chance of murder. This book is full of humor, family love, and whodunit.
Would recommend this book to all of the serous mystery readers and bakers. Loved the book as you didn't know who done it until they were revealed. Also loved the recipes, can't wait to make them.
Probably my favorite in this series. I laughed so hard. I was in suspense. I was happy, worried, laughing so hard I had years in my eyes. And if course I had it wrong as who the killer was too.
2.5 stars. I think I’m done with this series. While Sally wasn’t quite the pathetic doormat as previous books, she became too stupid in this one. I can not stand stupidity in heroines. Too much manufactured drama for me to be able to enjoy this book. I guess this series and author are not for me.
Great cozy mystery read. I loved how the plot flowed, and it got me interested from the start. It was a great book to listen to while you're on the run as well.
Loved this book as much as the others in this series. Loved the ending especially. This one was another winner. Now I am on to the next book excitedly.
I’ll for sure give this book a five star review. It had me laughing out loud at the antics of the quirky characters as they raced to solve the mystery.
I was delighted to have the chance to read the brand new release, FROSTED WITH REVENGE, the fourth book in Catherine Bruns' Cookies & Chance Mystery series. This new book had me laughing out loud one moment then gripping my tablet the next, on edge, waiting to see what was going to happen to the protagonist, Sally Muccio. Catherine also captures the angst brides can feel trying to appease their mothers with all the planning while trying to retain their own vision of what they want for their wedding. I’ve always loved Sally’s quirky parents and the author aptly describes them as “loud, proud, and march to the beat of their own drum.” But this time we see a different side to Sally’s mother and come to know her, along with Sally, on a deeper, emotional level. It adds to the appeal of the story.
The murder plot has so many twists and turns, making the reader feel like they’re on a wicked roller coaster ride. Catherine builds on the initial shock with tension-filled scenes until I was dying to find out if Sally does make it to the church on time. Fortunately, sandwiched in between the tension are moments of humor thanks to Sally’s best friend, Josie, and Sally’s dad, Father Death blogger extraordinaire! Both of these characters bring support to Sally and add to the overall enjoyment of the book. Even though this is the fourth book in the series, it is easily read as a stand-alone…but if you haven’t read any of the proceeding books, you’re going to want to go back and catch up with this delightful series!
Owning a cookie shop, Sally is always baking up lots of yummy cookies that will have you drooling. Fortunately, the author provides several recipes at the back of the book, including a traditional Middle Eastern Maamoul Cookies (reminiscent of Italian Wedding Cookies) that was handed down from her aunt. I knew I had to try them and was impressed by the shortbread style cookie that encases flavorful dates and walnuts!
I received an advanced copy with the hopes I would review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
If you aren't a fan of Catherine Bruns and her Cookies and Chance Mystery series....what are you waiting for ??? Sally and Mike are getting married and you won't want to miss their big day !!
Frosted with Revenge is the fourth book in this series and if you have been reading them from the first one, you are totally in love with Sally, Mike and the rest of the crew. And you are well invested in their lives and you will not be able to resist the urge to continue reading until the last page.
Sally and Mike are getting married but as they are planning their big day someone else has other plans for Sally.....like wanting her dead !!! Now you know that Sally can take care of herself but in Frosted with Revenge she is pushed to her limits !! And it all starts when her and Mike are at the bakery for the taste testing for their wedding cake ( I know....why isn't her best friend and partner in the cookie shop Josie making the cake ?? ). As Mike is outside taking a phone call another bride-to-be stands in front of Sally in the window and is shot !! So instead of the week before their wedding being a happy time for them, they are forced to change all their plans and try to find out who wants Sally dead before someone else gets killed.
The Cookies and Chance Mystery series is more than just a series....it's a family !! Once you read the first book, you are hooked and feel like a member of the crazy Muccio family. So when you do get to Frosted with Revenge, make sure you are somewhere comfortable with a box of tissues because you will not be able to hold in the emotions that arise !!
