"This fifth entry featuring Shake Davis takes the series to new heights...always with an eye on credibility and the spot-on fashioning of the special ops world nobody knows better than Dye. Compulsively readable and relentlessly paced, CONTRA FILE is a must-have addition for the shelves of any action-thriller aficionado."--Jon Land, USA Today bestselling author of Strong DarknessMarine Gunner Shake Davis, his best buddy Mike, and their families are in a semi-tropical paradise fishing and soaking up the sun. The vacation in Belize is apparently a freebie, a relaxing interlude funded by persons unknown. And it provides a chance to reunite with some friends from the Middle East who have been reassigned to Central American missions. Of course, nothing in Shake’s life is ever as simple as it seems—and before long they are shanghai’ed into another high-stakes intrigue. This time it involves gang-bangers running drugs by land and sea through covert pipelines into Mexico and eventually into the U.S. As they investigate, operating under cover for the mysterious man who calls himself Bayer, they slog through the jungle with Gurkha troops, operate at sea against dopers using submersibles, and discover the tragedy of human-trafficking that runs rampant in parts of Central America.
Dale Adam Dye is an American author, actor, and businessman. He served for many years in the U.S. Marine Corps, rising in rank from Private to Captain during the course of his career, which included service as a Marine Combat Correspondent during the war in Viet Nam. He retired from the USMC in 1984, and has since worked primarily in film and television in addition to writing several books.
CONTRA FILE is the latest action packed tale of soldiers at work. If you don’t know the author Dale Dye, look him up. You might be astonished at what you find. Not some sallow-skinned wannabe typing away in his mother’s basement, Captain Dye, a 20 plus year veteran of the U.S.M.C., is a survivor or Nam, Beirut, Lebanon, and several countries in Central America. He also attacked Hollywood, correcting attitudes and appearances of the military in movie after movie and founding his own company, Warriors, Inc. He has worked on more that 50 movies and television shows, both as advisor and as an actor. When he steps into frame you eye immediately travels to him and you know who is in charge. CONTRA FILE is his fifth outing with Marines Shake Davis and his buddy Mike. While they and their families are enjoying a tropical vacation, the boys view a small submarine while they are scuba diving. Back on land they find out it is likely a drug running operation. Before you can blink, the pair are in the jungle with Gurkha troops doing training, mixed in with the Navy and Coast Guard doing drug interdictions, and trying to keep their wives out of trouble. The wives, meanwhile, take on the local pimps and the gangs that support them, in an effort to break up the chain of the underage sex trade that is running rampant in Belize. There is also Shake’s part in the Iran/Contra Affair that is revealed. In short, this is a grab you by the throat sort of read that gets and holds your attention for the duration. I won this book through Goodreads.
