I missed this series so much.
The art isn't top tier, but they put sooooo much into the story. I can never put anything from this series down.

This is probably the most important volume to read, since it has a LARGE infodump from Ashihara about the apparent TWO-YEAR GAP in publication from 2016 to 2018 (before I started on the series, anyway... so I didn't notice, haha). That has me worried, though, that—given the pace of the series—it's going to follow in Hunter x Hunter's footsteps and NOT ever conclude, due to the creator's poor health.

I mean, at least Hunter x Hunter is fairly fast-paced (when it's going), where the "slogan" contest for World Trigger included things like "It's science-fiction, but slower." Ack, even if that IS sort of why it's good!

(though clearly not good enough, if I'm donating all of the books after reading, due to space)

Anyway, not my favourite part of the series, though probably more infuriating for anyone who had to wait through the hiatus. The first half is preparation for (and, in Osamu's case, anxiety over) the next battle, and the second half finally starts said battle. Unfortunately, this is when the last season of the anime ends, in the middle of this battle (or, just before the official conclusion of the battle, when the winning shot lands... I forget which), so while it's a GOOD battle, it's still just one more battle in the way of Team Osamu getting to go on an Away mission, like is the ultimate goal of the series. I imagine even the Away mission would just be the prologue to even wilder adventures, too.

Ashihara, why you gotta go and ruin your neck like that?! (Togashi, too, no more bad health!)

The art is still amazingly consistent, though, which is something I did like about the series. The handful of others I collect that maintain the same level of quality between the first and latest volume tend to be ones where the artist had already established a style in a prior series or two—EDENS ZERO being the main one that comes to mind, though Let's Play and My Hero Academia are fairly consistent quality, too! Oh, and of course Cursed Princess Club!

...ahem.

Anyway, recommended for fans of the series and anyone else eager to get their hopes up for a non-conclusion down the road... :( though of COURSE I hope the series can keep going to at least see its end before Ashihara sees his!

World Trigger 19 is a welcome return of the series. Author/illustrator Daisuke Ashihara took a medical leave for 1-1/2 years (volume 18 was released 1/18) and details that journey in an aside in this volume. The series moved from being released weekly in Japan to monthly, ensuring his health was not stressed by the weekly schedule. Ashihara chose to seamlessly continue the story rather than making a big deal of the return - so we have the plot moving on as if there was no break.

Story: Hyuse is now a part of Tamakoma 2 and ready to begin battling in the next rank wars. He's virtually unknown and all the teams are wary of yet another Tamakoma surprise. As the next and very important rank war begins we have battling four squads: Suzunari 1 (who have map choice), Kageura, Tamakoma 2, and Azuma. Will Kageura's sniper Yuzuru throw the match for Chika, how will Kuga work with Hyuse, and how will Hyuse perform now that he is limited to human weapons? And most importantly, what map will be chosen and what surprises await there?

Two original founding members of Tamakoma return: Cronyn and Yuri (niece of Tamakoma chief Rindo). Ashihara wrote in an aside that Cronyn is "A long haired Canadian who had conspicuously shown up all the way from chapter 1. His specialty in the labs is the management of trion form and trajectory. So he is in charge of the development and improvement of hound, viper, scorpion (which he helped develop with Jin)." So he will have a huge affect on 'leveling up' Hyuse. Yuri also returns, who "has the power to greatly lower the defensive power of Reiji within 10m of him, and that if a smiling Yuri San is to make a request, there are none who can refuse her." We only saw them briefly but I look forward to seeing what they bring to the series.

The first half of Volume 19 is preparation for the rank war. Then we get into it (including some great surprises by Suzunari 1). I look forward to seeing if Tamakoma can pull off a win with so much riding on how many points they get in this particular rank war. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.

Hyuse is officially part of Tamakoma-2 and we meet two new members of the Tamakoma Branch, one Canadian and one really cute girl that Reiji has a HUGE crush on. It's adorable~!

We also get to see how Border got it's start, from the humble beginnings to tragic sacrifices and into the army it is today.

Also, Yuzuru of Kageura Squad has a HUGE crush on Chika. It's adorable~! And now that he knows Chika is going on the away mission regardless of the Rank Wars, he's determined to make it too. Ha ha, competition is getting fierce.

Speaking of the Rank Wars, it's on to the next battle with a four way rematch.
It's Tamakoma-2 vs. Kageura Squad (#2 B-Rank) vs. Azuma Squad vs. Suzunari-1.
So while Tamakoma has the added advantage of a new member, Suzunari-1 has the advantage of a super tricky scheme tied into the chosen map. This fight will be a doozy~

Osamu learns more about Commander Kido and the many comrades he lost that might have made him form a stance contrary to Border HQ. Osamu is in a difficult bind in the rank wars thanks Yuzuru he might be taken out of the match Kageura fast.
