This episode picks up right where Learning to Breathe one left off. I was eagerly anticipating this book to see what happens with Derek and Sally. They have such combustible chemistry and they both genuinely care for each other and want to explore a meaningful relationship, but this relationship also includes a Dom/Sub component.

Sally didn’t know anything about this lifestyle and Derek had wanted Sally to do some research about the BDSM and the Dom/Sub lifestyle. He also wanted her to come with questions and concerns when they meet up again. During his next phone call, he asks Sally Green or Red. He wanted to know if she was wanted to continue to explore their relationship or was she going to walk away. Her answer, Green! Sally was ready to take their relationship to the next level and Derek was ready to be her guide. This book takes us on their journey and also things are happening that are adding more clues to the ever-mounting evidence!

The bodies are coming in and there are more twists and turns that happen that I had no idea what the heck the connection could be! The serial killer is leaving messages. I love the intrigue and twists that this series gives. All the building blocks and layers. The serial killer is getting a little too close for Sally and Derek’s liking and he has his men as bodyguards for Sally. Sally has tragedies happen one right after another. There is a lot for her to deal with, but Derek is there for her every step of the way, supporting and guiding her. He was amazing! Sigh.

This is a great episode with lots of steamy sexy times, suspense, intrigue, bodies and clues. I can’t wait for the next episode!

I know I'm getting to the end of The Collective: Season One and I'm saddened! Becoming His is part two of Learning to Breathe by Ellie Masters and continues with Sally and Derek's story. Part one ended with a major cliffhanger and for me, this one felt like it ended in a bit of a cliffhanger too. I didn't feel that I got the conclusion of Sally and Derek's story with this book- maybe it was just because I wanted more! At around 76% on my kindle- I got The End! NOOOO! There are lots of twists in this book with the continuation of The Collective story on the mysterious serial killer- which I have a guess on who it might be but won't put that here! I need to see if I'm right! Sally and Derek have great chemistry together and it was good to see them continue on their journey on finding out if they are right for each other. I will say, I was as confused as Sally on the whole "red" thing. That's all I will say- no spoiler from me- but I thought it meant the same thing she did based on what Derek said about saying that word. This couple definitely has what it takes to make a lust-worthy book! Very steamy and great plot! Just wanted more from the ending!

Synopsis: Episode 3 – Learning to Breathe

WORK. EAT. SLEEP. REPEAT.

Since her husband’s death, Sally Levenson’s life is dull and monotonous. She’s the county Coroner, and while the dead reveal their secrets on her exam table, she hides from the world. It’s much easier than facing the living. But hiding isn’t working anymore. Sally is trapped in a bland, colorless existence. She's suffocating and she wants…more.

When the dark and mysterious Derek Lemark enters her world, he opens doors to new possibilities, reveals dark desires, and challenges her to take a second chance on life. He dares her to breathe again, and promises...more. But what he offers comes at a price.

Sally must choose: take the next step, or speak the one word which will end everything before it even begins.

My Thoughts:

Loved this story! The book is about Sally and her mysterious man Derek. This book brings us back full circle to include characters from books 1 and 2. Yes, the same creeper from both books appears again!

Sally is the county Corner and leads a very mundane life since she lost her husband. Then she meets Derek Lemark at the ballet and is intrigued. He is rich, handsome, sexy, very attentive and dominant. All things that Sally craves. He lavishes her with attention and shows her opportunities that could change her life. Can she find happiness with Derek?

Clues are again dropped! Bodies are piling up! Will Sally be able to help the detectives connect the clues and what’s next for our new-found friends? Will Sally give Derek the answer he wants? Is there a connection there that can’t be denied?

We will all have to wait and find out! I can’t wait for the next episode!

I had the opportunity of meeting Sally and Derek in the short story The Ballet in the anthology With Love At Christmas. It didn't dawn on me when reading episode one of The Collective that this was the same Sally and Derek! Wow! There's definitely a lot more to Derek than what I realized while reading The Ballet. I look forward to reading part two of his and Sally's story. I enjoyed seeing characters from the other two books from The Collective, especially Blaze. I like the way authors connect everyone and do so in a way that you don't feel like you've missed something if you didn't read books one and two, but more so like you're getting something extra if you have. Sally is a widow who is finding her way back into the dating world again. Derek brings out a new side of her that maybe was always a part of her, but that she didn't know was there. There were times Sally surprised me because she appears to be this very shy and timid person, but there were things happening around her that didn't seem to bother her the way I thought they would have. The ending came a bit too quickly for me. My kindle was showing around 76% and then suddenly it was over! I wasn't ready for that!!! Luckily for me, I have all of the books from The Collective Season One! I will be reading more!

Have you ever experienced grief? Grief so tremendous it paralyzed you in fear at the thought of moving on? Living day to day going through the motions but knowing there had to be something more? In Learning to Breathe, Ellie Masters tells the captivating story of Sally, a woman who has suffered great loss and has hidden herself from the world, her feelings, and life – and Derek, a confident, rich man who knows exactly what and who he wants. Derek opens Sally’s eyes to new, exciting, sexy and unconventional things. Their relationship taps into passion and hidden desires deep within Sally that she never knew existed - and she loves. But it all comes at a cost. Will she choose this new life or retreat once again to the familiar, safe, mundane, and unimaginative life she led before? As part of The Collective, Ellie has written a beautiful story with strong characters. I absolutely loved this story –a definite must read.

I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

I really hate to write low star reviews.  If you read my reviews you know I love a good BDSM story.  This genre is one of my favorites to read.  Becoming His is a follow up book to Learning to Breathe by Ellie Masters.  So Sally is a Coroner in her county and currently working on a murder case which quickly turns into a serial killer case.  Derek is a business man and it seems he's pretty wealthy.  He wants Sally to be his submissive if she'll agree to the terms.

This is where I had the most issues with this story.  The BDSM elements seemed mostly correct but there wasn't anything she signed - in this book - to agree to be his submissive.  They didn't has out limits - he just said trust me to know what's best.  I don't think she has any BDSM experience before so that's not right in my reading experience.  They should go through a list and see what she's willing to experience, what's interesting to her, and what she would never like.  I'm not sure if that wasn't included in this book because it was covered in the first?  I didn't read the first one so that could have been covered.  Reading this story though it didn't seem like it was discussed ever.

I also didn't like how if she had a work call she had to explain every detail before she was allowed to even have her cell phone.  Her cases are confidential.  She could be fired if anyone found out she was discussing a case with a civilian.  Realizing this is fiction - I prefer my favorites to reflect reality as close as possible.

Give this one a try and see what you think.

*Spoiler Alert*

Learning to Breathe is book three in the overall arc of The Collective storyline, but this story begins before Unbroken, book one.

Learning to Breathe opens and Sally Levenson is standing before a dead body. Is this a typical occurrence for her? She's the county coroner and you've met her before. As she's examining the body you learn that this is the a dead body that popped up in Unbroken. The one that started the strange mystery as we met Sally for the first time in Ava's diner. As Sally continues to exam the body and wonder at the mystery surrounding the victim's death. Yes, she does think victim because she is marking it as non-accidental, in walks Blaze. The main character from book 2, Iron Claw MC. You also discover that the body lying on the table is Blaze's ex-girlfriend, Ally. Aha, now the pieces of each book are beginning to solidify and link together as the story unfolds.

As Sally returns back to the examination you learn more about the doctor and the solitary life she has lead. You learn that she has been a widow for the past five years, but she is also in the beginning stages of a new relationship with a man named, Derek LeMark.

At this point the story progresses away from the murders and into Sally and Derek's own storyline. A new world of mystery awaits Sally when she agrees to a surprise date night upon his boat...or did he forget to mention he owned a yacht. He talks about a D/s relationship and as Sally is jumping back into the dating world after losing her husband she is still trying to figure out where she fits into the dating game as a whole. A new world is opened up to her and much as Derek intrigue and fascinates her she isn't sure that she is ready to dive in, but and even scarier thought is that she could miss out on something great by not diving in feet first.

After a glamours night spent in Derek's arms before she can decide if she's ready to delve in feet first she's called back into work where another body awaits. The Collective is back and as we read in Unbroken, the bodies continue to pile up on the poor coroner.

Learning to Breathe is another great addition to the overall arc of the series. I can't wait to read more and figure out the mystery.

I am in love with this book. That's something that I've never said before. It was captivating and interesting right from the start. You may read these books alone but I personally prefer to read them in order. That way you get the background and you'll know the characters. These characters are well developed in all the books. Now on to my review about this book specifically. This book is full of twists and turns. Sally is living the same lifestyle and when the opportunity arises she is confused but more than willing to explore a new lifestyle. This story does have a cliffhanger. When I got to the end I was so upset but only because I wanted to read more. I can't wait to read the second part. I dont really want to give too much of the story away because it is a book that you just MUST read. Ellie doesn't disappoint, you'll be glad you did read this. I do want to say that Derek is my favorite character. He shows the softer side of him and tries to make Sally feel as at ease as possible. I am voluntarily reading and reviewing The Collective and I'm thankful for the opportunity as this is an amazing series and words can't describe. I can never do any of these books justice with my reviews.

Holy crap! Derek is one sexy man! I flew through Ellie Master's Learning to Breathe and loved every minute of it. I have to say I was sad when the book ended. I need more of Sally and Derek. Sally and Derek are polar opposites so their personalities compliment each other's so well! The ending has you left wondering...will the answer be red or green? I can't wait for the next one to find out!

Medical examiner Sally Levenson hasn´t dated in the five years since her husband die she is very shy and feels like is barley existing in the world, then one night at the Ballet meets Derek Lemark and things brighten up, but she can feel there is something different about Derek that she can´t put her finger on but she can´t help but feel things about him she never felt before and that scares her.

Derek Lemark likes control with everything including his women, so when he sees Sally he wants her he can read her and knows she is innocent to his world but can´t help the feelings he feels to her and so hopes with his help that he can get Sally to be his, with the homework he gives her he is hoping for her to summit to him and let him train her.
When Derek phones Sally will he get the answer he is sure she will give him?
Can´t wait to read part two. A well written book loved it had me from the first chapter till the end.

"It was time to get away from the corpses who whispered the story of their deaths and spend time with the living."
When you lose someone you love, breathing is sometimes the only thing you can do. This is a beautiful story of Sally and Derek.
Derek teaches Sally things about herself she never knew. After being stuck in limbo for so long will Sally have the courage to move forward?? Or will she return to her safe, half-life??

Derek and Sally's story was very sweet, it was exciting and innocent. Sally had never been in a world like Derek was introducing her to, she was scared and excited at the same time. Derek had an alluring way about him and you could trust him. He was sexy and exotic. I fell for both of these characters, while continuing with an awesome series of The Collective. Ellie Masters has a way of sucking you in while making you feel all the words and putting you in the middle of everything she is trying to portray.

OMG! Great story!! This is book 3 in The Collective Series. This is a group of authors that are writing a series of connecting stories but with each book the mystery deepens. This is the story of Sally and Derek. It unfolds as Sally finds herself face to face with a master of BDSM. Read as Derek takes her to places she never thought possible by showing her what life has to offer. Ellie weaves a story of love and trust with a good dose of mystery thrown in!! Loved it!!

Sally Levenson is many things. A medical examiner, a widow, a friend but she is about to become something more. A submissive. Sally meets Derek at the ballet and they begin to get to know each other through conversations first. Then Derek makes a offer of a new lifestyle, a new way of being and Sally has to decide which way she will jump: her safe and conventional life or a new and exciting journey into the unknown.

This book is the third "episode" in the Collective series which involves Ellie Masters as well as Chris Genovese, Elias Raven, Riley Edwards and Erin Trejo. I did not know about the earlier two books when I started reading and while you do get a sense that there is more to the story (especially the secondary/action part) this book can be read as a stand alone with nothing missing.

Ms. Masters' characters are complex and engaging. I found that I was drawn to Sally's inner demons of sadness and her need for something new. After losing her husband, Sally had concentrated on work to ease the pain but after finding Derek she learns to live again. Sally is a character that you can easily relate to. Ms. Masters made her an "every" woman: capable yet vulnerable, emotional yet strong, intelligent and curious. On the flip side is Derek. Ellie took the standard strict Dom with rules and protocols but also gave him deep insight and a softer emotional edge. Derek doesn't want a mindless sub, he wants a strong woman willing to bend.

The main part of the story is Derek gently yet frankly demonstrating who he is and what he wants for Sally. The interaction between to the two main characters is sweet and romantic. The sex scenes are erotic and hot. It is the beginning act of a Master/slave relationship which Ms. Masters writes in such as way as to be open (and from what I can tell) true. The spell she weaves through her Dom Derek is as hypnotic as it is sexy. Even though I am not interested in a M/s lifestyle, I was strangely enticed.

The secondary story which are murders that come through the morgue and Sally is starting to make connections and gather clues on is interesting and is what is woven through the different authors' work through the series.

A short yet well written read.

The Collective is like nothing I have read before. I have been sucked in and can't get enough. My mind is going a million miles per hour!

I'm literally going to combust over here...does anyone care? Like seriously, I now have a small notebook that I am taking notes with while reading and highlighting the h@ll out of these pages. Yet again, I am left SPEECHLESS! Utterly beyond SPEECHLESS!

Ellie Masters, holy "F" Derek and Sally are Hot...Hot...Hot...I just can't get enough of them. Jeez I so need a Derek in my life...sigh. In Becoming His, we find out Sally's decision from the ending of Learning to Breathe. Also, a slew of new and completely unexpected events happen that makes The Collective one of the best series I have read in a long time.

My heart was literally in my throat throughout this entire book. Just when things are steaming up and getting all sexy BAM there's another dead body. Just when things seem to calm down....BAM another dead body. I held my breathe so many times while reading and also was shocked a time or two as well - like jaw dropped, mouth wide opened shocked! Ellie Masters what have you done? I am completely amazed!

We All Fall Down...another trademark of this infamous serial killer. I feel like we have all the pieces to figure out who the heck he or she is but new clues keeps getting added. Like I've previously said....going insane over here. I need to know but at the same time am going to be so sad it is over.

Ellie Masters, another brilliant book. I'm in awe of not only you but the rest of the Authors involved in The Collective. I have truly enjoyed and loved every single letter, word, sentence and chapter written by each and every one of you. I am once again bowing down to you all!

If you haven't started reading The Collective yet...what the h@ll are ya waiting for? One-Click book one today and get sucked in like me! #PeerPressureAllTheWay #YouKnowYouWantTo

We meet medical examiner Sally Levenenson who hasn't been on a date or even looked at another man since she lost her husband 5 years ago. Sally is the shy type so internet dating and meeting a man would be to much for her. The the present time all Sally feels is absolute darkness in her life until one night at the ballet her life and a meeting with a mysterious stranger will turn Sally's life upside down when she meets Derek Lemark .

Sally notices that there is something different about Derek but is unable to put her finger on exactly what it is. This scares Sally as she has never felt this way before but at the same time wants to know more about Derek.

Derek Lemark or Master Derek as he is known in the BDSM circle thrives on control in all aspects of his life including the women that he gets involves in. When Derek spotted Sally at the ballet its not before he can read sally like a open book as they begin to start talking. Derek also spots the innocence in Sally. It's not long before Derek's dominant side comes out and he has eyes set on Sally so he sets Sally some homework to doing the hope that she will see that he can offer light at the end of her dark tunnel. Will Derek be able to teach Sally not only to submit to him but also let him train her up into his submissive and open her eyes so she can see the light at the end of her dark tunnel and see what life is all about.

Will Sally throw caution to the wind and let Derek into her life or will she simply carry on with her life as it was before she met Derek???

In part two of Learning to Breathe, Becoming His, Sally follows Derek deeper down the rabbit hole of dominance and submission allowing him teach her what it all means and what he wants from her. Sally finds that in giving up her control, she finds an inner peace and satisfaction previously missing.

I have a hard time with stories revolving around a master / slave relationship because it is not one I understand or that appeals to me however, Ellie Masters has created a Dom in Derek that is more than the usual stereotype and therefore more understandable. He is masterful without being overbearing, considerate and intuitive on a greater scale than most are written about. Sally, showing that she either extremely self-aware or willing to boldly go where her heart leads, is determined to be all that Derek ultimately wants. On one side Ms. Masters made Sally smart, elegant, competent ~ she is an efficient, meticulous medical examiner. Then on the other side, Ellie has her exuberant, trusting, almost caution-less ~ when she is with Derek. She becomes a chameleon.

The story moves along as Derek and Sally explore each other and their growing relationship as clues, bodies and danger to the threaded backstory (The other Collective works that dovetail into this story) pile up. There is an interesting mix of action of that and the focus story of Derek and Sally. Overall, an enjoyable and (for me) informative read.

Sally Levenson is the county coroner working on The Collective murders, unbeknownst to her. As the storyline has grown we, the readers, have collected the clues that have tied the murders together. To Sally it is just another day on the job. For the authors working on this great collaboration, the murders have been interwoven into each story, but we have yet to learn of the killer. In Becoming His we are given an inside look at the inner workings of Sally's job as she "dissects" each body that lands upon her table. The indepth look as she examines each body is fascinating to add to the overall puzzle of "who done it".

As Sally sheds her coroner scrubs after a long days work, she steps into a surreal life with a new love interest, Derek Lemark. Derek is the first man who has awakened Sally from the walking coma of she's been living ever since the death of her husband five years prior. Derek has not only awakened her mind, but also her sleeping libido alongside of unlocking her passion for the forbidden. A passion she didn't know she even possessed.

Sally enters Derek's world ready for a relationship, but what does that even mean to a man like Derek? Could he be the man who finally sets her soul free, or could this be too much too fast? Red or Green, Sally must choose her fate. There is no in between.

The Collective just keeps getting better and better. If you haven't picked up this series yet, you are missing a fantastic series.

Becoming His continues Sally’s and Derek’s story that begun in Learning To Breathe.

“Red or green?”
For a breathless moment, Sally struggled. This wasn’t a ‘hello, I missed you.' It was a declaration of intent and what a way to set a mood? The tone of his voice demanded an answer, and she found herself mute. (14% Kindle edition)

Red or green? Derek demands an answer from Sally, but she’s hesitant, the struggle between what her heart feels and what the logic of her brain tells her to do is almost too much. Derek wants her complete surrendering, but she has started to live independent and be strong alone. Could she trust Derek enough to give him the reins of her life?

Elli Masters does a good job describing the insecurities of Sally getting to know the BDSM-scene and lifestyle, and I enjoy her style of writing.

Apart from being a story of first steps in a Dom/Sub -relationship, Becoming His is part of TheCollective -series, and it is supposed to carry that story on too. And that’s the reason for my disappointment. All the clues and hints concerning the Collective -story were already told in the previous books, nothing really big or exciting was revealed. But in favor of Ellie Masters, I have to say that she included The Collective -story into her own seamlessly. The two story lines intertwined well, I just wished that something new would have been told.

Wow! Ellie Masters has done it again! One minute I was in a...oh this is so lovely...mode, the next...nooo, edge of my seat, heart thumping!
As Sally has given a 'green' in answer to Derek's question about trusting him to know what is right for her, she is taken further into the BDSM lifestyle, to become his submissive.
Meanwhile, in her professional life as the County Coroner, the murders are escalating - even encroaching into her office, as, when going into the building with Derek to relay information to the detectives involved in the case, she discovers her assistant, Bruce, dead on the exam table.
The question now is, is there a serial killer on the loose?
Things take on an even more complex turn when newscasters report on the murders - things they shouldn't know, things that haven't been made public and nor should they. How did they get the information? And from whom?
But, I couldn't help feeling uneasy, Sally had been a bit too trusting with details. I kept telling her to 'shush, don't say anything,' seriously, I did.
And is Derek all that he seems, or is there someone even darker lurking under that suave persona?
Hopefully, we'll find out soon enough. Hopefully.
Another great read from this author, I would highly recommend.

Learning to Breathe by Ellie Masters
This is a third episode (book) of the Collective Series – Season One. There are ten episodes (books) in the series. You need to read the first two episodes (books) before you read this one. The characters do cross over from two previous books into this one. It is a fun and sensual read to find the clues in each book in order to solve the mystery puzzle.

It is about Sally Levenson, a widow medical examiner, who spends her days examining the dead body for clues. Besides work, she has a passion for ballet that is where she met handsome Derek Lemark at the theatre. Derek is not like any other men she met. There is a hot passion chemistry between them that she never felt before with her deceased husband. She later learned about Derek and his lifestyle. Derek has given her a choice that she needs to answer. She desperately wants him but scared of what it will be like to be in the lifestyle world.
The book ended on a cliffhanger, but good news, her second book (episode eight), Learning to Breathe – Becoming Him is now available. I need to read the rest of the books in the Collective Series before I can read Becoming Him.

I really enjoyed reading this hot and steamy book and Ellie mastered it well.

They've talked almost every night for the past two weeks. Sally and Derek have this chemistry that can even be felt over the phone. When she thinks back on the conversations, she realizes that he knows almost everything about her; her childhood, her marriage, her husband's illness and subsequent death but she knows very little about him. But she doesn't feel uncomfortable with that. On the day she discovers the body of what was thought to be a drug overdose turns out to appear a homicide, Derek calls excited to be coming back into town. He wants to see her again. Take her on a date that will be late and require her to take the day after off work. Sally feels giddy with anticipation and agrees with the exception of needing to go in later in the day, rather than taking the day off. Wait until you go along on the date. You'll be so jealous!! OMG this has everything. A spine chilling mystery you can almost feel the evil coming off the description. An alpha male that has the moves and personality that send goose bumps up and down your body and a submissive woman who has yet to recognize herself. There's no other way to explain this except to say I'm anticipating the answer as much as Derek is!

Well Ellie Masters you wowed me!

Another episode to this amazing concept/series. You show us how after loosing your spouse, your partner, there is hope to find happiness again.

Sally, our efficient and quiet County Coroner who lost her her husband and threw herself into her work. What better place to hide from the world then to be surrounded by dead people. But was this enough for her, could she continue this lonely life?

Enter Derek, gorgeous hot and rich...they meet at the ballet and he is taken by Sally and the game of pursuit begins. Can and will Derek awaken Sally's desires which have been buried for so long? Can Sally trust him enough to open up and let go of the past and Breathe Again?

Their sexual chemistry is undeniable and as much as Sally want to push forward Derek is taking it slowly, he wants more then just her body, he wants all her, mind, body and soul.

Ellie creates fun and loveable characters Warren, Karl, Justine and Ellen, these 4 are funny and give insight into Derek's world, a world which Sally is not accustom to.

I can't wait to see what s in store next for this amazing duo.

This is part two from Learning To Breath and continues where it left of.
Sally is the County Coroner that is working on the body's that have been murdered, things are getting strange and its scaring her, but with Derek by her side she feels stronger.
Sally is entering into Derek's world with faith but finds it hard to agree Witt what her heart knows but her head is fighting, she has only been existing since her husband died and now she's feeling more feelings than she knows how to deal with. Can she let go and be what Derek needs.

Derek can't help what he is a Dom he wants to share his world with Sally but he has to make sure she knows what it is he's asking of her. Will Sally be able to handle the challenges that come with the dark desires that Derek what's to share with her forever.
Can Sally help solve what is going on with the murders in the area. Th collective Series is getting where we have all the clues and characters that are involved we just need to put it all together to find who the killer is.

Red or Green

In part 1 Learning to Breath Derek asks Sally to chose Red or Green. After some research into the BDSM lifestyle and deep thinking Sally chooses Green. Derek surprises Sally with a trip to the private vineyard and introduces her to The Cellar.
Sally has a break down and Derek calls out Red halting everything telling Sally she is not ready to become his slave.
Meanwhile, George and Tank get caught in an avalanche and Derek does everything in his power to rescue them.
Sally goes to work to discover Bruce her assistant dead with pumpkin and a cinnamon stick stuffed in his throat. Aslo
another body comes in with eggshells in the stomach. The bodies are piling up and a serial killer is on the loose calling himself Simple Simon and leaving a message "We All Fall Down". Derek and his group of friends are still a mystery so is Master D who owns The Cellar. Justine has a 3D tattoo like one of the victims. I loved reading this book that I could not put it down. I look forward to reading more books by this author. I highly recommend reading this book.
