Attention deficit disorder (abbreviated as ADD) is a syndrome displayed generally by children aged seven years and below. The ailment is distinguished by the child's constant impulsiveness, hyperactivity and very short attention span. The name attention deficit disorder has been widely used to refer to the disorder, but in 1994, researchers, specialists and shrinks reached a consensus to use attention deficit/ hyperactivity disorder to refer to the illness. In this specific article, attention deficit disorder would be used to refer to this neurological disorder. Attention deficit disorder isn't a disease. In fact, the condition is just a behavioral illness, although many parents wrongly take the condition as an ailment. Up to this very day, no real motive is yet established to explain the incidence of the scenario, although many research are conducted to pin down its cause. It is projected that this behavioral ailment affects about 3% to 5% of the United States population. Because most of attention deficit disorder patients are kids aged four years old and above, the illness is associated by folks to young age. It is estimated that globally, about 8% to 10% of school-age children are affected by this behavioral illness. What is more interesting is that based on cases that are reported and data, boys are more prone to be diagnosed with the condition. The number of girls with attention deficit disorder is actually less compared to boys. But there are reported instances of young adults and possibly even adults that demonstrate the symptoms of attention deficit disorder. It's assumed that these adults have retained the attention deficit disorder from their childhood.
