Camden Place

Rate this book
Her past is a mystery. His future is in jeopardy. From the first moment Clare Newman steps into Camden Place—from the squeak in the floor and the sweet scent of apple pie to the candles she lights on the dining room table—it feels like home. It's a place she can find refuge from her nightmares. It’s a place where she can make a fresh start… …Except there's a misty figure with a knife who disappears into the library. …Except there's Liam Camden, the man who built Camden Place over a century and a half before, who doesn’t disappear, who seems to be the only one who can see and talk to Clare. But who is the real ghost? Clare, who somehow found the doorway to 1847? Or Liam, who died mysteriously one hundred and seventy years ago? When danger creeps closer, will the timeless love they share be enough to keep them safe? All of Allie Harrison's Books are Stand-Alone Books.

After a horrific trauma, Clare needs a new start and comes into an inheritance. A distant uncle has willed her Camden Place in the middle of Charleston. And as she walks through the old-fashioned hallways, she smells freshly baked apple pie, and gets glimpses of ghostly beings, including one wearing a top hat and clutching a bloody knife. And as she sits at the piano and plays it, suddenly the ghosts around her seem more real than ghosts, especially dashing Liam Camden, who originally built the Camden Place. She finds herself falling quickly in love with him, and wishing to stay in the past, where she finally feels at home.

As other reviewers pointed out, this really isn’t a thriller, horror-type book. This really should have been classified as a historical romance. It’s along the lines of the Christopher Reeve movie Somewhere in Time or even Outlander or Kate & Leopold with a character from the modern time suddenly finding themselves in the past to fall in love. This is a time travel romance with a dash of ghosts and a murder or two that aren’t really the focus. Personally, I was okay with that. I’m not really a horror type. I was looking for a paranormal romance where the girl falls in love with a ghost. Granted, Liam really wasn’t a ghost, at least not for most of the book. He was warm and solid as Clare was always describing him. I am a fan of historical romances, too, so I wasn’t that unhappy when this ended up mostly in that category. I loved the reactions to Clare’s modern technology and knowledge from the future. And I loved the romance between Clare and Liam. And I loved the setting of Charleston. I keep seeing it more and more in indie books these days, making me really itch to visit there some day. I did wonder though at Clare seeing the man with the knife in the first chapter and then really not mentioning him or worrying about it until rather late into the book. The resolution felt cliched. But I did tear up during the ending. I picked this book up without reading any others in the series, and it is indeed a stand-alone.

Wow!!! What a great book.

I can't figure out how I had not found this author. Being an avid reader and loving this genre. I know about her now yay! This book was awesome. It was very well written and her storyline was great. Some authors in my opinion, seem to give to much info on their characters. This author gave me just enough, to keep me wanting to read more. Clare buys the Camden Place. She is automatically drawn to the home the minute she walks in. She hopes this is the fresh start she desperately needs. But as you know things aren't always what they seem. Then when she sees a misty shadow of a man holding a knife disappearing into the library.......... This journey begins... I will not say anymore about the story. Believe me you don't need a lot. This book is awesome all on it's own. Get this book and enjoy an amazing read. You may want to leave a light on and watch behind you !!!! I highly recommend this book!!!!!!

Clare Newman has inherited an old mansion in Charleston, South Carolina, from her uncle. After a horrifying incident nearly takes her life, she heads to Charleston to start a totally new life.

However, she is little prepared for what awaits her in Camden Place. Liam Camden, the original owner, died a mysterious death in 1847. When Clare is transported back in time to a dinner party he is holding, her world is turned upside.

What is real? Is everything that is happening a dream? A nightmare? Is Clare alive or dead?

If you enjoy the genre of gothic romance, this is a great book. A little bit of "Outlander", some true gothic romance, and a Jack the Ripper-type serial killer all combine to make this an intriguing and unique read.

I am a big fan of Allie Harrison and am glad that I have found a modern author to carry the gauntlet laid down by the likes of Victoria Holt. I look forward to reading more of her books in the future.

This book will be a hard one to put down once you start.

I love the way the book blends together.

I did figure out a few things and there were a few surprises that I did not mind being wrong.

There was one part that I did not see the surprise coming and I am glad that the story went in that direction.

When Clare walks into Camden Place you could feel her excitement flowing through. She finally found a wonderful home. But then she sees a ghost! Then their is the man who built Camden Place and suddenly she's thinking am I his ghost? Did I somehow travel back in time ? Or is he mine? I absolutely loved these books and I have a new author to love!

This book was well written and a good story, it's just not what I had hoped. When this said "Haunted", I was hoping for a creepy, scary story, something to give me chills! This is NOT that story. This is more of a paranormal romance type book.

I've never read a story quite like this before. It was so unique and wonderful. I did get lost a few times, and felt it was a bit too long; but the ending was amazing. I am going to be checking out more of this authors works. It was a safe read, and full of wonderful emotion. Great addition to my supernatural romance collection.

Could not stop reading it

This is kind of a reverse haunting with a twist. The heroine goes back in time to haunt the owner of a house she inherited. He. Is being murdered so she solves that then returns back to her own time. Reading the other books in this series is a must

This is like no other book that I have read before. If I wasn't told about this book, then I probably never would have even come across it. I am so glad I did!! It had my attention from page one and had I not had to work, I would have stayed up all night to finish it. I loved it. It as full of mystery, present and past. I never knew what was going to happen next. Clare inherited a very old house that was supposedly haunted. It was built by Liam Camden. She ended up going back in time somehow and actually met and fell in love with Liam. I will not say what all actually happened because i don't want to spoil this awesome book for anyone. Hopefully it will capture your interest as it did mine. I can't wait to read more of Allie Harrison's books!!

The characters and the way she describes them is amazing....From the moment Clare Newman walks into Camden Place that she had inherited she felt at home, and that this is the new beginning that she is looking for but things arent always so simple.
