Rate this book
Grace Behind Bars shares the true and dramatic account of how Bo Mitchell, businessman and chaplain for the Denver Nuggets, inexplicably ended up in federal prison only to find God’s true freedom behind bars. Ironically, it’s in a six-by-nine-foot cell that God begins to free this driven Christian leader from his prison of performance and success. In the end, Bo realizes that God’s love is a gift, not something he must earn. But there’s more to the Just before Bo enters prison, his wife, Gari, becomes incapacitated by a brain illness and enters her own prison of clinical depression.Readers will see how the couple struggled together as their world fell apart, yet ultimately grew closer to each other and God behind the bars of their trials. This story will not only inspire and encourage readers, it will show them how they, too, can find spiritual freedom in life’s “prisons” if they choose to see God’s hand in their lives.

I love this book.. It talks about the struggles of Bo and Gari Mitchell but it also speaks to the the trials we all face. That God is right there with us no matter what is going on in our lives.

Grace Behind Bars

by Bo Mitchell; Gari Mitchell

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy of Grace Behind Bars through the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for my honest review:

Grace Behind Bars is a story of redemption of forgiveness.

In 1992 Bo Mitchell enters prison, but just before then his wife enters a prison of sorts, a brain illness and clinical depression.

In 1972 Bo becomes a Father to his daughter Ashley.

On September 8th 1988 Gari has sinus surgery, while it helps with some of the issues with her sinuses, but the surgery damages her brain.

On November 25,1991 Bo hears from the District attorney, by the next day they are meeting in the courtroom, but despite everyone not reccomending Prison time the judge orders an 11 month Prison sentence.

On May.22 Bo is released from the prison camp and sent to a half way house, on September 14,1992 Bo is released from the federal prison system all together. He does go back to prison, but not as an inmate but prisoner.

I give Grace Behind Bars five out of five stars.

Happy Reading.

I could hardly put this one down, as I wanted to fully understand both the author and the experiences he was challenged with. I especially enjoyed being able to hear his wife's perspective at the end of each chapter. Nothing tops the work of God in a man's life . . .

While the Bo Mitchell story is quite interesting and inspiring, I found the repetitiveness reduced the impact of what was being said.

Theology is a bit off, but when you can get a few nuggets from a book, I believe it is always worth reading and sharing. Any book that contains a theological perspective should be balanced with biblical reading. At the end of the day, this one hit home for me as it is very very similar to my own story. :)

I was listening to Focus on the Family (my favorite radio show) and the author of this book, Bo Mitchell was being interviewed. I was intrigued by his story and bought the book. It brought tears to my eyes as it was an emotional and challenging journey for Bo and his amazing family. However, I love it when God brings good out of the bad and that's exactly what happens in Bo's story.
