“Black Hands” Jack Walker spends his time as a US Marshal catching criminals and protecting innocent people, like he always dreamed of as a child. Having moved to the American Frontier to escape his life as a political pawn for his family, he is content.
Everything changes when he receives a letter from his father explaining that he is to marry one Elizabeth “Piper” Renwick.
During their trip from Boston to Detroit, Jack learns what it means to be in love while dealing with bankers, a heist, and ultimately Piper- a woman capable of outwitting him at every turn.
Will their adventure together on the frontier draw the two of them together or force them apart?
So The Ranger's wife was enjoyable and those in the collection that followed completely annoying and many I had read before so fast forward. More attention to editing detail is needed as the story line is good.
This was a collection of short stories. There were many spelling errors and wrong names assigned to characters. The stories themselves were enjoyable. I would recommend a new editor.
Clean mail order bride romances. I know that I should have low expectations on these mail order bride romances. And the author did state that she could not afford an editor. However, the grammar was just atrocious. The basic idea behind the story was good, but reading such poor quality writing was very distracting. As others mentioned, there are several additional short stories included, and I read some of them. They also were interesting stories in dire need of an editor. I also think that the description of the book should mention that these other stories are included.
This mail-order story begins as the lawman from the Western United States meets the socialite from England. Their fathers have arranged their marriage. Neither participant had seen any sense in coming together from across the ocean to marry. They begin being a bit hostile about the situation, but then they begin to appreciate one another after they join a wagon train to make their way west to his hometown. They encounter a man who wants to marry this woman. Or maybe he just wants to irritate the Ranger.
Will they marry or go their separate ways? Read this book to find out.
This is a short read about Jack who is a U.S. Marshall and his father has sent him a mail order bride and Piper whos dad feels that a women should marry and not run a store. When they meet they are not sure about each other and the caravan that they will be traveling with will have other stories to tell. Can Jack accept Piper who is so proper? Can Piper accept Jack who is a Marshall? What about this other man who seems so much better? What will Piper do choose Jack or the man who has culture?
Short romantic story about a mail-order bride. It was okay. There a bunch of short stories included at the end. Most of them were a bit boring. Very little drama in the Ranger's wife and it could use more character development. As the author says, the books are not edited which slows down the reading.
I don't usually leave a review but I couldn't finish the book. Halfway through I didn't care. The characters weren't anybody I couldn't relate to. Maybe the ending was great but I didn't care enough to flip ahead to find out. I read a lot of Christian Fiction and am glad that I have Kindle Unlimited so I didn't buy this book.
This is actually the second time I've read this book. I loved the story of US Marshall Jack Walker learning how to love. He said he didn't live...he just was. Then, Piper came into his life and it was never the same. Loved the poetry he wrote. Looking forward to Benjamin's story!
199 page book that at times had me laughing as these two tried to get along together with each of them from different worlds you know there is going to be some misunderstandings ! I am now going back to re-read .
Love the era of mail order brides to bring women to the frontier and help in settling the west. Women of courage, desperation, and the ability to adapt to the changes in their lives. Eveline Hart does a great job of describing the experience and making us admire the women who moved west.
Along with The Ranger's Wife, there are several additional mail order bride stories. All are good reading. They are all steady-paced. I believe anyone who enjoys this particular genre will definitely be happy with this book
I enjoyed this book, however, would have liked it to be longer and had the story developed a bit more. Was well done for the length of it. The main characters were interesting. Look forward to the next, longer,? book in the series.
This is a heartwarming Mail Order Bride story. Jack and Piper start their journey together on a wagon train. Piper is put off by Jacks rough exterior but she soon learns that appearances can be deceiving. This is a wonderful story and I would definitely recommend it.
I loved this story. It was a Christian one, which I reading as there are no surprises as to content or language. Lots of action in this one, great characters. I'll look for more of this author's books
This is an book full of adventure and bad guys. The plot is easy to follow and not complicated. Anyone who enjoys a fast moving, clean Christian love story will enjoy this book.
The raw emotion and interaction of the characters was excellently presented. The characters well thought out and were believable. The beginning and ending were culmination of the entire work. Well presented. Five stars easily
A story of an arranged marriage and the trials they went through to find love. The characters seem real with all the real concerns and desires as anyone would have. Predictable but still a worthwhile read.
Sometimes our freshly desires and life plans are interrupted by odd events and tragedy that brings our thoughts back to reality...... true happiness only comes when we walk in God's plan.
I loved this book. It was very well written. It kept me interested from the beginning. Couldn't put it down. Jack and Piper were so right for each other. Their path to each other was worth the wait for them.
A sweet romance set in early America about a U.S. Marshal and mail order bride from England. The story takes place on their wagon train journey to Detroit. A cute tale with a twist or 2 to keep it interesting.
This was a nice collection of short romantic stories. The were good but not great. I would probably read this again but would not go out,of my way to do so.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was different in that it took place in the eastern states rather than out west. A rough tough lawman and a proper English woman make an interesting match. Good Christian romance.
