The God of Apple Juice and Spilled Mik Study Guide: Study Guide

Rate this book
My purpose in writing this study guide is to explore how our experiences as earthly parents lead to an understanding of God’s parental nature. We may not understand the reason for God’s answers just as our children may not understand the answers we give them. The development of trust is our goal. I believe it is God’s goal also. Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” NIV

Although we’ve been married for over 26 years, we haven’t gotten blessed with any children; perhaps it’s for the best since one of us [me] has a genetic condition we wouldn’t want to pass on to any children we might have had; besides we had married in our late 30s and early 40s.

So I read this book philosophically to see it offers to those fortunate to have become parents.

We first have to remember that scripture one than once instructs parents as to what they need to do for their children, for example

DEUTERONOMY 11:19 [NKJV]
“You shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.”

PROVERBS 22:6
“Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.”

I looked at this book from a child’s point of view, and I found it to be an ABC instructional manual as to how to raise a child, starting with giving them the vital unconditional love they need. Followed by knowing what the child must feel like with its experiencing growing pains like having their first teeth coming in, falling and bruising themselves, etc. and knowing what to do.

The book contains a beautiful interweaving of scripture, providing aspects of the Lord’s caring for His children and the author’s own experiences raising her offspring.

For wanting to give individuals who have gotten blessed with children a spiritual guidebook as to how they should raise them in the eyes of the Lord, I’ve given the author, Karen Cogan, 5 STARS.
