I read this book at the perfect time! I have a good sense of what I want to do in life, but I have been confused on how to go about exploring and pursuing it more. This book has been so helpful in guiding me on how to explore different career options. It teaches you about networking, collecting and working with references, doing career and job research, and prepping for interviews and jobs. There are questions posed throughout each chapter and blank lines for you to answer them if you would like to. There are websites and resources listed to help you look at internships and career options. It inspired me to do a lot of research and I have already gained so much information through it. There are a lot of examples and the writing is done in a friendly tone that makes for a smooth and enticing read. I love how you can keep re-reading this book because the skills and tips from different parts of the book are applicable for many different stages in life. I have loved reading this book and look forward to continuing to apply what I have learned from this book.

Careering is a short pocket guide geared toward teen readers just learning about the career and job search process. The small size is perfect for the reluctant teen reader as the book feels manageable and way less intimidating than many career books. Careering by Tamara Raymond is a perfect overview of career exploration and touches briefly on what careering is, how to begin exploring careers today through networking, volunteering, internships, and working. The book also talks about applying for jobs and interviewing. Ms. Raymond has had lots of experience and shares practical tips on things like how to make ensure you have good references and creating a resume.

While Careering is perfect for someone new to career exploration, it doesn't go into depth on most topics. The book is best for beginners or for parents trying to get their teen to start thinking about careering in a positive way. Personally, I would have loved more real examples of do's and don'ts from Ms. Raymond's experience as she seems knowledgeable on the topic.

Perfect size to give as a gift along with a gift card!

The advice pertaining specifically to getting a job and nailing the interview were very useful and they’ll be a lot more helpful when I do go out and try to get a job. It’s also a nice place to organize your thoughts and what career you want. That being said, a lot of the information earlier in the book I already knew from either my parents or college counseling. I realize I have more resources than the average high schooler so this book would still be a good one to work through!

A Little Book Loaded with Powerful Information

Until reading CAREERING, I had never heard of this word. In the introduction, Tamera Raymond defines it as “the process of taking progressive action in pursuit of a profession or venture.” (Page 1)

I found CAREERING to be packed with practical advice. For example, at the end of the introduction, Raymond writes, “Whatever you decide to do in the future, whether it’s to work in your ideal field or become an entrepreneur, it’s critical to do your research and explore your career options whenever possible. It’s all about putting in the work to reach your career destination. Interest, and better yes, passion is great, but action is needed for success!” (Page 5)

Whether you want to understand the power of networking or get some valuable tips before your job interview, I highly recommend you read CAREERING. The insights in this book will help many readers.

Where was this book when I was in high school or just starting college?? I love how the author gives sound advice and combines it with useful examples that got me thinking about how all this can apply to my life and my choices. Even though I am older now, I still go to job interviews and such and this book gave me more ideas about how best I can rock my next interview. Reading this careering pocket guide, has given me new vigor to go out and explore within my field so I can only imagine how great it will be for some young adult with more possibilities ahead of them!

REVIEW: Careering by Tamara S. Raymond

One of the biggest changes in people's lives is when they have to look for a future career.

It's also one of the most difficult periods for many people, especially for those who struggle to know what they are meant to do.

This period takes place when we are teenagers. During that period, we are confused and afraid of navigating the job world. We don't know and understand how to start collecting experiences while also being bold enough to put ourselves in the front line to be noticed by those who have more experiences than we have.

The book I'm reviewing was written after the author heard from students, who told her about the challenges and difficulties of navigating the whole job scene.

This pocket guide is full of helpful hints and tips to guide you along the way.

It s designed to get you out there doing, exploring, researching, trying new things, and having helpful conversations career related.

The book is structured in the following way:

1. How to Begin Careering;
2. Opportunities to explore different career options;
3. How to find key resources to help you explore those career options;
4. How to Network properly;
5. The process of Applying;
6. How to be a master in the interview process.

My Thoughts on this book:

Despite it being a pocket guide, the book delivers its suggestions and helpful tips in an easy and applicable way.

The book would be useless if it were targeted at adults, but it is not targeted at that kind of reader.

The target reader for this book is the teenager who is finishing high school or has just finished it. Thus, the book does a pretty decent job of providing them with tips and hints on how to navigate the job scene as well as possible.

Why should you read it?

If you have finished high school and have no idea of what your future career may look like, this book is perfect for you.

Also, if you are a parent and have a son/daughter struggling with that, let them check out this pocket guide.

📚 𝐀 𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮.

When we finish high school, there are many questions revolving in our mind to which career to pursue, what options do I have etc. If you’re the one having trouble deciding your career path, then this book will help you in gaining some clarity.

The book guides you to find the best career fit for you. It gives you an opportunity to first assess yourself and explore career options you think might match your interests and skills. To help you acquire a clear vision and identify your natural inclination, strengths and interests, which can lead you to the career of your dreams. I like books that make the reader work while going through it. It provides space to take notes, write your interests, set timelines and action steps.

📖 You’ll learn how to :

🔹 Create your unique path to career success.
🔹 Discover resources available to you.
🔹 Make realistic and informed decisions about your career possibilities based on your interests, talents and skills.
🔹 Engage in exploration, instead of living passively or procrastinating.

The author Tamara S. Raymond has briefly explained all the topics ranging from exploring your career options to applying for jobs (developing your interview skills).

It’s a short and simple read. It’s best for beginners who are at the starting stage of pursuing a career. A really good piece of advice is given through the pages of this book. An additional benefit of having this book is it’s a pocket guide. You can keep it with you always and revisit the chapters anytime.

💡Do you wish to start back from your teenage, once again!? In hopes that Maybe you'll end up getting a different future that you have imagined or wanted to seek some guidance about choosing a career. I agree, and we all have been through this stage.

"𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐮𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐫 𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞."

💡It is what it is, right !? It's absolute now. Though what you can change is help someone in choosing the right career for themselves. You can help people around you or even yourself in making some good decisions while choosing and switching careers.

📌The book provides a 8 step model, discussing each and every aspects of the process and providing some sustainable exploratory methods and techniques towards achieving the definitive goal.

📌The books serves as a journal to record and contemplate your choices towards choosing your career. It's very short but significant and specifically written. Its size makes it pocket friendly and easy to carry.

📌It explains those things which the majority of teenagers fails to get their hands on in the crucial years of their life. Though this majorly focuses on Western systems yet its contents are universally applicable.

📌If you wish to seek guidance and want to learn this model that might help make your decisions about careering self sustainable and absolute, then this might be a good fit for you bookshelf.

When is the right time to choose a career? We all wait a lifetime to find the right path for us. But then we lose the opportunities that come our way and gradually, we fall into the trap of working a job we don't love or even like. Why does this happen to a lot of people? Why only a few adults are happy with what they are doing? Where does the fault lie? This book will help you in reducing the mistakes that you might make in your career.

The book targets young teens who are in high school because this is the perfect time to explore the options. The book encourages students to focus on their careers this early in their age. The author has laid down multiple steps in approaching and finding the right career option for us. The future is what you make of it. This book might just help you in building it right.

The author begins by writing down your hobbies in the spaces that are left in the book itself to giving out various resources that would help in exploring different career options. This book will help you in finding the right job for you and even sharpening your interview skills. It doesn't end there, even when you get your dream job, you could continue to build your career with the resources that are provided in the last chapter. All the best for your career. I highly recommend this. MUST BUY.

Careering is a refreshingly practical and empowering guide for teens and young adults who feel unsure—or overwhelmed—about their future.

Tamara S. Raymond strips away the pressure and confusion often surrounding career decisions and replaces it with clarity, structure, and encouragement. The interactive format invites readers to actively engage with their interests, skills, and aspirations, turning career exploration into a process of discovery rather than stress.

What makes Careering especially effective is its real-world focus. The book doesn’t promise instant answers instead, it equips readers with tools to explore, test, and refine their paths with confidence.
