Anna and Froga #1-5

Anna and Froga: Completely Bubu

Rate this book
The collected edition of the international cult comic series

“Charming and weird.” ― Paste

Anouk Ricard’s bold and colorful comics of this quirky, grumpy gang of pals are delightfully weird yet thoroughly realistic in their honest and hilarious portrayal of friendship. Anna, Froga, Christopher the worm, Ron the cat, and Bubu the dog continue their non-adventures with bickering, needling, cajoling, and honest friendship. No white lie goes unexposed, no small embarrassment goes unrevealed, no secret is kept, everyone’s foibles are fodder for jokes.

Anna and Completely Bubu collects all five issues of the acclaimed Anna & Froga series into an accessible paperback. Ricard’s vibrant world shines with visual puns and deft animal caricatures, making Anna & Froga enjoyable for kids and their parents alike.

Collects all the Anna and Froga tales plus a new one or two. Really clever funny stories. The characters are pretty mean to each other. Reminds me of a kid friendly version of Megg, Mogg & Owl by Simon Hanselmann.

Each story is only 4 pages long with a double page artwork at the end. So its not really great for a long-read. I read a few stories a day, taking my time with it.

Viens no stāstiem. Slieka Kristofs iesprūda savas mājas izejā, jo viņš saēdās pārāk daudz kartupelīšus. Froga piedāvājās palīdzēt pastumt slieku un iekļūt mājās pa otru ieeju. Kristofs gaidīja, gaidīja, Froga nenāk. Izrādās, ka varde atrada pārējos kartupelīšus, tos apēda un tagad gulēja sliekas mājā. Vislabāk man patika stāsts "Košlene". Froga zemē atrada košļeni, iedeva to Annai un meitene košleni apēda, atzīstot,ka garša bija dīvaina. Garām gāja slieka Kristofs un jautāja,vai draugi gadījumā nav redzējuši viņa brālēnu Samī. Viņam patīkot saritināties zemē un gulēt. Pie tam Samī smaržojot pēc...zemenēm. Ko padomā draugi? Ka viņi netīšām Samī sajaukuši ar košleni.
Grūti pat izstāstīt visu, kas grāmatā risinās. Ja vēlies jautrus mirkļus, no sirds iesaku šo grāmatu. Patiks gan mazajiem, gan lielajiem lasītājiem.

I picked this book up because Anouk Ricard is one of my favourite French writers, and so I’m doing the same thing I do with all of the authors that I love and trying to read everything that she ever published.

The interesting thing with Ricard is that some of her books are in French and others have been translated into English. I’ve read a few of both, and I have to say that I prefer to read her in French, even though it works either way.

The stories in this one are aimed at children (and in fact, my edition had a stamp inside that showed that it had come from a Catholic primary school), which is why I’m able to understand them in the original French. I’ve actually read a few of the stories shown here before.

The great thing about these stories is that they’re funny for adults, as well as for kids. They’re also super short, and so you can snack on them a couple of stories at a time. It’s great if you’re looking for something to read with your kids.

Anna and her quirky friends Christopher the worm, Ron the cat), Froga the frog and Bubu the dog hang out together and try to have fun, but mostly argue and make fun of each other. It's very relatable adolescent squabbling and it's very funny. The book consists of 2-4 pages episodes that remind me a lot of Seinfeld in that they involve friends in every day activities. Part of the humor is seeing cute animals acting like middle schoolers.

The complete collection of Anna & Froga in one volume. Though I read all individual albums of Ricard's series in French, I was curious about the English translation. It's quite good as well.

One point about readers of this edition, it is a small book so some of the art is tiny and the beauty of Ricard's drawings get lost.

This graphic novel revolves around an unusual group of cutely drawn friends who get into all kinds of shenanigans together. Pranks, mischief, and sarcasm rule these short nonconsecutive comics. I think any sassy person age 8 & above would love this odd but charming book.

Grāmata bija forša un daudzas vietas bija smieklīgas. Vislabāk man patika stāsts par kempingu.
