Oh my Lord! I have been in a bit of a book slump this year, I have read so many books that feel the same and are so forgetful that I was starting to lose hope. I have been much braver though, and I have tried many new authors that I haven't read before, and it's been great to find so much talent that I was always too stuck in my ways to try before now.
When this book popped up to read on the Kindle First program, I decided to take a look at the blurb and then went for it. I then spent the next 24 hours devouring this story in between real life stuff.
OMG, I loved it! Seriously LOVED.
It's about a bookworm who see's herself as a bit of a plain Jane (her name incidentally, is Jane) and she is the complete opposite of her older sister, who is outgoing and adventurous, and although she loves her with all her heart, she admits to feeling jealous of always being the less attractive, less interesting, and lesser sister.
Her sister also has a business partner. His name is Caleb, he's a Southern gentleman, who she finds extremely annoying (ly hot) and when he is not off traveling the world with said sister for his job, he and Jane have some great banter going on, it's kinda like a brother/sister vibe...except it's not.
Tell Me started off light hearted, but then it just took me on a journey that I was not expecting. It was heart-wrenching, and emotional - but absolutely beautiful. The writing was exquisite, I actually can't believe I have never read anything by this author before - that is going to be rectified immediately, I can't wait to explore more books if they are anything like this one.
I would describe Tell Me as a 'Friends to Lovers' romance, but also a story of self-discovery, learning how to fight your demons, and following your dreams.

First off, thank you Arabella ~♡AB♡~'s review for bringing this book and this author to my attention. I enjoyed this book so much. I cried and laugh, and let me tell you that I've never rooted so hard for a couple as much as I did with Jane and Caleb.
Both are deeply flawed and complex characters whose differences might be too great that love might not be enough!
Yes, you read that right! There were moments in the book where I was like...
Why? Because the conflict is that good. Simple but really effective and it's not very obvious if we go by the blurb. In fact, I thought initially that it's going to be something else. But I prefer the direction that the author took. It's a very mature conflict and she was able to really flesh out the story and each of the characters.
Aside from the conflict, what I also loved about this book was how tight the writing was. Not one scene or interaction was wasted. Everything that you read has a purpose. And the author did a fantastic job tying up all the loose ends and giving readers the answers to questions they have about the characters and the story. It was masterful.
But what really made this book a favorite was its cast of characters. Jane and Caleb felt real. Jane is a shy bookstore owner. At first, I was skeptical because the character sounds really cliched. I mean, hello, shy, plain-Jane bookstore owner? That's like classic character trope.
But the more you read, the more you see the nuances of Jane's character. And the same goes for Caleb. He's a tough nut to crack. He was a very intriguing character. At first, he came off really cocky and was a bit annoying. The moment the two of them are together on page, you could feel the tension that was borne out of their differences despite the fact that there's definitely an attraction there.
I loved how Anne of Green Gables was used as sort of a backdrop in the story. It was clever and it made me want to read Anne of Green Gables again. It made me curious about the lore behind that series.
Another intriguing layer to this book was Sam, Jane's beautiful and adventurous older sister who also happens to Caleb's best friend and business partner. She was the thread that connected Jane and Caleb at first. Her tragic death served as a catalyst for Jane and Caleb's relationship. I personally didn't feel that her presence detracted from the romance between Jane and Caleb. I thought that Jane's feelings about Sam was handled really well. Again, it felt real and it was so heartbreaking.
There are so many thing I loved about this book. I especially loved how the author brought everything in full circle, giving readers what they long for. The resolution wasn't perfect but it fit the story really well.
Tell Me is a heartwarming story about two people who couldn't be more different from each other fall in love. It's a beautifully written romance which I highly recommend you guys read.

Buddy Read with Hanne
This is not really a review, this is me needing to vent. I finished this 4 days ago and waited to write a review hoping that I will calm down, but NOPE, I'M STILL A LITTLE SALTY.
Beware - Spoiler Ahead | MCs - Caleb and Jane
Caleb left Jane in a different country. Like literally drove off and left her in another country by herself!
Authors, there are some actions that are irredeemable. This would be one of them.
The jerk didn't even have the decency to call and make sure she was okay. You would think that after a few days of her not returning to New York, that it would set off an alarm in his head "hey, maybe I should check on her." Nope, he sits in her apartment making origami birds.
Yep...birds. Ms. Strom, I understand that this was supposed to be sweet, but JANE WAS ESSENTIALLY MISSING FOR 4 DAYS. Caleb had no idea where she was or if she was okay.
Jane's text to Caleb when she learned that he left her was AMAZING! I read it about 10 times.
Whew...I actually feel better.
So, GR Friends, there were some good parts in the book too, you should pick it up

3 Man of My Dreams Stars
“I think about the snow falling outside and your Harry Potter pajamas and how goddamn beautiful you looked. I think about your nails on my back and your legs around my waist. I think about sinking inside you and wanting to stay there forever. I think about the look on your face when you came.”
Bookish and quiet Jane has always lived life on the sidelines while her fun and vivacious older sister, Sam, chose to live her life balls to the wall, pedal to the medal loud. Sam and her best friend and business partner, Caleb, have tried with little success to get Jane to step outside of her comfort zone and experience life once in a while instead of just reading about it.
There’s always been a mutual attraction between Caleb and Jane but you know how it goes when neither of the crushing couple makes a move; they both end up suffering in silence, thinking the other could never feel the same way. When tragedy strikes and both must deal with the sudden loss of Sam, will it bring them closer together or drive them further apart?
I’ve read a few Abigail Strom books in the past and have always enjoyed the quality of her writing. Tell Me is no exception. I especially love the way she chose to write Caleb and his point of view. We get just enough to understand what he’s feeling but not enough to take away all of the mystery.
As much as I enjoyed the writing, I didn’t really connect with either character, but most especially Jane. Usually when it comes to the women I spend my book time with, I can find something I can relate to. Not only was that not the case with Jane but there were times I just didn’t like her. I felt her little sister pain for sure (older pretty sister, etc.) but I kept wondering why Caleb had such strong feelings for her, besides the big brother type stuff he’d throw her way every once in a while. I will say the "Dan" side storyline made my heart break for Jane a little.
I did enjoy the journey these two eventually took to ensure Sam’s final wishes were met. Unfortunately it just wasn’t enough to push this book over the four star mark.

I was going through a major reading slump... For a person who loves to read. There is nothing worst than a reading slump. I've read so many books this past month yet nothing felt right. There were times where I had this fear of not being able to enjoy reading after buying all the books you know your are going to like and from authors who's work you've been obsessing about. Yes, to some that might sound dramatic but a fellow book worm like myself would understand. Yes they would.
Tell Me By Abigail Strom, re-ignited my love of reading. strong words, I know. But it really did.
Jane has everything I want... Surround myself with books all day long and own a bookstore. Need I say more?!
To be honest, I got really protective of Jane while I read this book. I mean, So what if her life revolves around her books? Who wouldn't want to be surrounded by books and receive endless knowledge and let your imagination and creativity run wild?
Caleb and Jane were complete opposites. To Caleb, only what he touched, saw and tasted was real whereas for Jade, her imagination was just as precious as his love for action and adventure. Something I agree with wholeheartedly- Her thoughts and dreams were as real as the physical world.
Tell Me is a book nerd galore... something any book fiend would understand and love. This book makes the inner nerd in me smile like a banshee and scream "OMG!I want that!" or "I get you, girl!!"

This book has a lot of cute moments - a very cute hero and heroine who are friends but firmly friends - no hanky panky. Anne of Green Gables is mentioned a lot and Jane owns a bookstore! She is more of a dreamer where Caleb, our hero is an adventurer. He travels the world taking people on adventures. Jane thinks he is crazy - the thought of a simple hike holds no attraction to her at all. Caleb grew up on a farm, so he also has a cowboy vibe going on - wears a stetson, jeans and boots. AND his home base is in New York City. So he is a jumbled adventurer, cowboy, city slicker... maybe all of that felt a little forced..but he is cute and a charmer and won me over.
Caleb runs his travel business with Jane's sister, and the three of them are super close. Jane also lives and works in New Yorck City and one day wants to write a book. She loves imagination and living in her head. Caleb loves experiencing things first hand and is an adreline junky. Opposites for sure - but Caleb looks upon Jane with lust. She has placed him firmly in the "brother" category, and as Caleb starts to listen to his heart, he realizes his feelings have turned romantic towards her. He doesn't know what that means in terms of their lifestyles, as he travels many weeks out of the year - but that doesn't stop him from attempting a courtship. He soon learns that trying to court a girl who doesn't realize she is being wooed, is difficult.
This is all adorable and cute and I was there for it.
And then.
Then an event happens. No, it's not cheating or anything like that. But it's a sad event and I wasn't' expecting it and damn it. The event itself wasn't a deal breaker for me, but it completely changed the tone of the book. We go from adorbs to sad and heavy. The emotions and journey are done well. Very well. But I also feel like the romance gets lost in all of the heaviness. It takes a back seat and while there is a solid HEA at the end, the romance overall could have been bigger. I'll put what happens in a spoiler tag - but otherwise I'm not going to expand on it.
I think some will love this book - but I can also see other people having a negative reaction. I feel right down the middle - adorable first half. Too much sadness in the second half.

Caleb is a handsome cowboy and Sam's best friend, Sam is the sassy and energetic adventurer, and Jane, Jane is Sam's little sister and resident Plain Jane book owner. Jane has accepted her role, accepted that she's different than her sister, and accepted that her life is most exciting when she's living in a book. She's found a certain kind of happiness, a happiness that works for her, but it's shaken up by Caleb's visit and request. She's adamant about not joining them on a hike, not even for Sam's birthday, but when an unexpected accident occurs Jane finds that the most she can do is just get by. Caleb makes it his mission to bring the old Jane back and spark some of Sam's energy inside of her while he's at it. He joins her on a trip that's as crazy as they come, but together they find out that saying goodbye could also help them start anew.

Talk about a book to get you over your reading slump! I have read so many great books this year and I've tried a lot of new authors, but I've been getting discouraged by what is out there. The stories are all the same and so predictable, so I sort of put off reading Tell Me by Abigail Strom for quite a while. I've filled my time with suspense books and other various activities, but something about this cover, this blurb, sucked me in. It turns out, this was just the right book for me. It's romantic, it's sweet, it's got quite a bit of angst, and it breathes life into the sibling's best friend trope that was growing so old.
"Feeling and sesnation swept through her. Her whole body felt like a frozen limb coming back to life, the blood tingling and smarting as it returned."
I really enjoyed Jane, she's my sort of bookworm. Caleb, on the other hand, is your greatest cowboy fantasy wrapped in a boy. They shouldn't make sense, in fact they really don't make sense, but they work. They each have flaws and great losses to work through, something that only friends who trust one another can work through together. I loved that most of the book focused on their friendship and how Sam is the glue that really holds them together. I really appreciate the focus on sibling jealousy, the natural rivalry that comes with it, and the love that really overpowers it all. It's a unique story and it feels like a true story and not just a bit of fiction. I found myself laughing at them, crying at other times, and really hoping they get the happy ending each so deserves. It's heart wrenching and emotional, but wrapped in a sweet, romantic bow that any sweet romance fan will love. The weight of this novel is the only downside, I really hadn't expected to cry, but ended up appreciating the direction Abigail Strom took the story in. Plus, these two have so much chemistry that it's obvious from the start that they are meant to be.
"His heart squeezed in his chest. You are different. You are special."
Tell Me may feature a simple storyline, but Abigail Strom effectively brings it to life like a movie. The characters are well developed, the book features a really great tie-in of Anne of Green Gables (only my favorite book as a child), and the characters share dynamic interactions and fantastic dialogue. If you're a fan of friends-to-lovers and sibling's best friend romances, Tell Me is a book to check out.

I picked this up on Netgalley, it sounded interesting and after reading I am so glad that I did. This is a new author for me.
I really liked this book on so many levels. Great story and wonderfully complex characters as well as author's beautiful and unique writing style. She really tastefully handled all the deep and traumatic scenes in a way that was mature and very real.
As I read more of this book it was clear that the initial impressions I formed of Jane and Caleb were just scratching their character's surface and I really began to see and feel how flawed and yet very lovable these characters were.
I so badly wanted this couple to make it together, even though I could relate to the internal conflict both of them were struggling with.
The later use of the "Anne of Green Gables" story within this book was very nostalgic reading for me and added yet another element to a really deep and beautiful love story.
I highly recommend this one to all lovers of contemporary romance and friends to lovers stories.

I so badly wanted this couple to make it together, even though I could relate to the internal conflict both of them were struggling with.
The later use of the "Anne of Green Gables" story within this book was very nostalgic reading for me and added yet another element to a really deep and beautiful love story.
I highly recommend this one to all lovers of contemporary romance and friends to lovers stories.

What I like about this book:
1. The story. It is a very sweet story.
2. The contrast between the characters. Jane is more loner but she is centered. Caleb is adventurous and more impulsive. And the author done a good job bringing these 2 characters together.
3. The push and pull makes me smile. Especially when Caleb ends up listening to the whole audio book.
What I think need improvement:
1. Wording. The wording does not flow nicely. I feel it is rigid and the wording can be edited to show more dramatic and more steamy.
2. The plot/ conflict can be heighten.
Nevertheless this is a simple book with a sweet story.

Tell Me delivered a good blend of humor and opposite-attraction romance without filler or fluff. It is kind of sweet that Anne of Green Gables occasionally popped up in my mind throughout the book. A surprisingly good read:)

I’ve read this book for #yearofsmut2021 challenge by @ratetheromance as a book with RITA or VIVIAN award.
Although I agree that this is a special and creative story, I would still assign it as “It’s me, not you” type. For the general enjoyment I give it 3/5, but since the quality of writing is probably 5/5, I decided on 4/5 as the middle ground rating.
It’s probably the first romance where I actually didn’t want the couple to end up together. I think they were so different that I honestly didn’t see how they can make it work without being miserable.
But what I really see as the main issue is the main heroine. She is this dreamy, naive, hopelessly romantic type and I think we would never be friends if I met her in real life. I prefer strong heroines who are not afraid of changes.
On the bright side, I would definitely find a common ground with the hero and his life was a dream life!

I was pleasantly surprised by this book, slow simmer romance. Friends to lovers, full of self discovery. I liked the chemistry of the 2 main characters, both had issues but they managed to deal and open up to each other.

March 25, 2021I was interested in this book at first but then I have read in the reviews that changes the tone of the book from "light" to "sad and heavy" and therefore, I have decided to avoid it. During this time of my life where we struggle with the stress of the pandemic, I don't need that kind of romance. I need something to cheer me up.

Any book with a heroine who owns a bookstore will get my attention. And I’m so glad I read this one. I loved the dynamic of the characters as they came together. The whole relationship with Caleb was handled well. The pacing was good. I thought the fact that the character of the sister is so integral to the plot was unique and interesting. Both Jane and Caleb were well rounded characters – with flaws and complexities. I love that they didn’t feel like cardboard characters you sometimes see in romances. It gave the author quite a bit to play with which made the book much stronger. I loved watching Jane come into her own AND find love! Really good romance that I definitely recommend!

This was a nice little read that I got with Prime!
A little book shop owner and her cowboy friend both deal with lost together!
I think they may have spent more time apart than they did together (with gaps off page) which wasn't great since these two were supposed to have known each other for many years, yet when their was a death in the family, they both just kind of ran from each other (or the H did at least, travelling to Australia for so many months)
A good 3 star read.

Jane has been living in her vivacious older sister's shadow all her life. She's the quiet, conservative book nerd to Samantha's sparkling, larger-than-life personality and many athletic achievements. Her sister's Amazonian height and matching beauty have always attracted men, while Jane's own pretty looks are far more understated and definitely not in the same league. In fact, more than one man had moved his attention from Jane to Sam, as soon as the introductions were made. Jane has no real expectations of finding her own special someone and has contented herself with her life as bookstore owner in New York City. Still she has her dreams courtesy of her active imagination and they just have to be enough for now.
Caleb is Sam's best friend and long term partner in their outdoors adventure business. He matches Sam in the aesthetic department as well as in his enjoyment of exploring the world and his physical limits. The only thing the confident Caleb and the self-conscious Jane have in common is Sam - and their enjoyment in trading friendly insults, whenever Caleb is back in town in between his expeditions with his clients.
Jane has so little belief in her own attractiveness that she would be shocked to learn that to Caleb, she has always been the only sister to garner his male attention sexually. As Jane's own attention is captured by another man, Caleb is finding it increasingly harder to remain in the friendly bro zone and yet any romantic overture seems crazy and too risky. Then suddenly, life takes an unexpected topsy-turvy turn and in the aftermath, they cling on to one another as buoys. Even as they give in to their overpowering attraction, their many fundamental differences pull them apart again and again.
This is very solid story-telling, my first by this author. There were some truly moving moments and the characters were well depicted, quite flawed and believable. Nice narration.

It had been a month since Jane had last seen Caleb, right before he and Samantha had left for a trip to the Canadian Rockies. Jane hadn’t realized they were back.
“Even you, pipsqueak.” She hated that nickname. Among other things, it reminded her that Samantha was the statuesque, beautiful older sister while she’d been dubbed Plain Jane by Sam’s first boyfriend.
Sam really was gorgeous. Perfect skin, long blonde hair, and that toned, athletic body. Even in New York City, where there was no shortage of attractive people, Sam always drew attention.
She felt more invisible than usual, noting that none of the guys gave her a second glance as she moved past them. The only time she ever got male attention was when she was with Sam, and then it was only from the wingmen of the guys hoping to meet her sister.
She’d already been humiliated today by an attraction to a guy who didn’t feel the same about her. And Dan was a part of her tribe—a bookworm and a Tolkien geek.
“You’re not attracted to her?” “You sound shocked. What’s the big deal about that?” “Everyone’s attracted to Sam. Everyone.”

This book is surprisingly good. The h is a really likable character who is an introverted bookstore owner who also wants to be a writer, and the H is an outdoors adventurer/expedition guide. He's deeply in love with her, but has more issues than Playboy (although being a playboy isn't really one of them, at least not in this book) along with a really patronizing and annoying habit of treating the h like she isn't leading a full life because she doesn't care to go for treks in Nepal (considering that she owns a profitable independent bookstore in New York City, something that is nearly an economic impossibility,and is an active member of her writing community, his assumptions are much more about him than about her).
There's a lot more to this story, and a fair amount of angst. The H is not perfect and behaves like an emotionally stunted coward on multiple occasions, but he's redeemed by the end, and frankly, this is one of those books where it works well because he is such an idiot at times.

A cute opposites attract novel. It was really angsty though, so many outside factors pushing the leads apart and together. Sometimes i just wanted them to be to discover each other a little better. The story was good though, deep and thoughtful, sometimes funny and cute. A little sexy and a lot sad.

Ahhh, where to start with this review? It's been in the making for quite a while now, since I finished this book in December '17 and haven't written a review until now, because I couldn't find the right words back then to do the book justice.
What I love most about Tell Me is that it doesn’t rely on fancy plot twists or a lot of sex scenes to pull readers in. Don't get me wrong; I love sex scenes and sexiness is still Very present in this book but this book is really all about the feels and about things real people would feel if they were put in the situations like the ones these characters are faced with. It felt relatable even though I, thankfully, haven't experienced myself in real life what these characters experience. But it somehow just felt so real and it got to me. I experienced everything Jane and Caleb experienced and it was heart-wrenching in all the best ways possible when it comes to experiencing such an intense book like this one.
I looooved this 'friends-to-lovers' romance even though it was because of really sad circumstances that these two characters got together but these circumstances is what makes the romance feel 'real' and relatable, I think. I also loved reading about, aside from the romance, the self-discovery Jane is going through, learning how to fight your demons and following your dreams. I just really loved EVERYTHING about this book and I was addicted right from the start. I especially loved how the author brought everything in full circle, giving readers what they long for - at least I got what I longed for. I can't speak for anyone else, lol *happy sigh* I definitely got everything out of this reading experience that I could've wished for beforehand and I couldn't be happier about receiving an e-arc of this amazing book!
The writing, in general, was just really amazing and the author has a really great talent I think. She was able getting me all hot and bothered and make me feel ALL THE FEELS while reading this book. It left me aching for more, it left me breathless and in awe. The writing was exquisite, really and I can't wait to explore more books by this author. If they're written anything like this, they're going to be amazing, all of them. Just.. what an amazing read, damn.

It made it to my 2017 favorites list and it's DEFINITELY a recommendation for anyone who's in for an addictive and REAL romance story!

I listened to this book as an audiobook. The narrator is great. I obviously liked the book since I gave it 4 stars. I have to admit I vacillated between 3 and 4 stars because I became extremely frustrated with Jane. I just wanted to shake her and wake her up. She has a huge chip on her shoulder when it comes to her sister Samatha.
This story is sort of enemies to lovers which is one of my favorite tropes. Jane and Caleb certainly have their issues, but their attraction to each other is obvious from the start. The back and forth progression of their relationship was really getting on my nerves. So why 4 stars?
This book has one of the most beautiful endings I’ve read this year. I was listening to this at the gym and left with 30 minutes left. I was so thankful I didn’t stand there in the gym crying like a baby in front of strangers.

Wow! The irony!
All Samantha ever wanted was for her sister, Jane, to join Caleb and Sam on a hike or mountain climb anywhere in the world. After all, that's how Sam and Caleb made their living - through their expedition business. Who would have thought that the first hike Jane would ever take, would be to scatter Sam's ashes over Owl Mountain? And every regret that Jane ever had, slapped her in the face, for the many times she told Sam no, when Sam wanted to go hiking. Now Jane stands on the same mountain, hugging Sam's urn wishing she could turn back time.
Don't we all? What a heart-tugging but totally beautiful story!

I can't believe I read the same book as other reviewers. It was predictable, depressing and tedious along with some cringeworthy descriptions and dialogue. It was more a teen novel or bad Mills and Boon than a modern romance novel that the Kindle First description made it out to be.
I rarely read romance and now I know why! I was just lucky it was a short book.

The Good. You know those romances where the hero and heroine are complete opposites and yet it doesn’t matter because nothing else matters besides the romance? This, is not that book, and I appreciated that. I’m glad I took my GR friend Geri’s recommendation to check out this book, so I’d like to pay it forward and I’ll tell you what I loved (and didn’t love) about this tale.
The chemistry between Jane and Caleb is there from the very beginning. I loved their conversations, and the history Ms. Strom conveyed between Jane and Caleb with every interaction. I adored that their attraction wasn’t a secret to the reader, even if they didn’t see it themselves. There were plenty of moments that felt as if they could have been handled in a Romance 101 kind of way, and Ms. Strom deliberately steered away from those, which I liked alot. This is most definitely a character driven romance, and there’s genuine tension in wondering how Ms. Strom would overcome the differences between Jane and Caleb. From the start, you know that Jane is a city girl who loves her books, and Caleb is an adventurer who thrives in nature. Neither is prepared to change, and their journey to a believable HEA is fully explored and well earned by the time you get to the last page.
The Bad. I can’t say there was anything that was really bad about this story. The ending felt a bit abrupt, in this age of the extended epilogue, but it’s a sweet grand gesture that it closes on and I liked that.
Everything in Between. There are a couple of things that I was on the fence about. The plot twist wasn’t a surprise (it was hinted at in the blurb, and you feel yourself start to brace for it), but it did make this a much more somber romance than I expected, based on the first half. Like when tragedy happens in real life, there is a distinct feeling of Before and After the Incident. It marks both characters and this romance, in a palpable way and that changed the tone of the story. If you don’t mind a shift in perspective, from lighter to a much more serious type of read, I think you can enjoy this like I did.
My biggest quibble in romances (besides cheating, because hard pass on those) are the emotional runners. They get me, every time. I will say, even if I’m not a fan of the running either one does at different points in the story, I felt that it was in character for them to do it. It fed their core obstacle in an organic way, so I wasn’t mad at it, when all is said and done. Time flies by because of the running each one does from their feelings and the fear of being rejected and there are regrets along the way. As the reader, I wanted to push them to figure it out, but like any good romance, in the end, Ms. Strom lead them where they needed to be. I loved their final scenes enough to forgive them for their delays in giving me...I mean themselves their HEA.
I really enjoyed this read. Jane and Caleb made an impression on me with their romance. This is my first book by Ms. Strom and based on this, I’d like to read more by her. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this to fans of friends to lovers romances, as long as you’re in the mood for a bit of sad with your sweet.

It's not a bad read. I enjoyed it overall, even though I wish some things had been developed better. It held my attention just enough, but it's missing that something extra that I'm always looking for in a story.
Still, it has an MC who loves books, and a modern cowboy who is a thrill seeker, so all of that leans towards fun. Plus, it has a whole Anne of Green Gables thread, and who doesn't love that? If you're a book nerd, you might enjoy this one.

Keep your tissues at the ready! Nice friends to lovers contemporary romance. It even has a bit of an "Anne of Green Gables" theme running in the background.
