Book 3 in the Kyle Gibbs series.

The year is 2033. A ship docks in Scotland’s Glasgow Harbour. Men in hazmat suits stand guard as hundreds of figures dressed in rags trudge off the ship and are forced into trucks destined for the European continent.

Following the three-metre sea level rise, the world is a changed place. Flooded megacities run by Warlords help the New Governments of America, Europe and Asia to keep control of the poverty-stricken masses. This dystopian existence is now vulnerable to a deadly contagion threatening every Floodlander living in the megacities. A virus that will kill millions and topple the fragile New Governments from power. Desperate leaders are forced to recruit someone who can hunt down the brains behind the sinister organisation, hell-bent on holding the world to ransom.

Ex-SAS soldier, Kyle Gibbs is living in a commune in the tranquil English countryside, oblivious to the fact that someone from his past is plotting to destroy his world. Personal tragedy forces Gibbs to come out of retirement, and he is tasked with capturing the man who intends to cripple the world's governments.

Wayne Marinovich is an author and photographer who grew up on a farm in South Africa and spent most of his young life outdoors, learning and developing his passion for the natural world. When he was not fishing, bird watching, riding his bike or climbing trees, he was running around on top of the barn roof, fighting imaginary villains.

After a successful career as an IT consultant which saw him travel to all the places he loves writing about, he settled in the leafy county of West Sussex, England where he now resides with his wife and fellow photographer, Anneli.

His passion lies with conservation and environmental issues which affect both humans and the natural world alike, and he is most happy photographing and writing about the planet's beauty and fragility.

Currently he is working on the Kyle Gibbs series, an environmental piece set in a future climate-changed world. The first three books in the series have been published and he is currently working on the fourth. Wayne is also working on a portfolio of environmental novellas and short stories, the latest release being, Floodlanders, a teenager's tragic journey in a flooded London.

The excitement is all there - the characters we have come to recognise and know and the tense finale to the book is all there. Predictably though, as in the first two books, there are the losses and story parts left hanging.

There is a nice twist at the very end that does leave you wanting to read on to find out what does happen at the finish of it all!

I would recommend the book to anyone who likes a good shoot out but be prepared for more of the same as in the first two

All of the blurb on this book set it up as an eco-thriller. I received a copy in exchange for an honest review, and I'm afraid overall I was disappointed. What appeared to be a very chunky book was far from it due to the large typeface and erratic spacing - an initial disappointment and the only aspect that could lead to the description of eco-thriller was the fact that it was set twenty years in the future in a world where the seas had risen and flooded large parts of the land and major cities, but this was only scene setting and completely irrelevant to the plot.
Perhaps this was because this was the third in a series and I have not read either of the others, but the fact remains it was not what I expected.
The central characters of the novel were Kyle Gibbs and His family, a couple of old military friends and a couple of James Bond style villains with the main one being just short of a cat to stroke whilst outlining his dastardly plans to complete the picture. With such a cast it's no surprise it ended up reading like a cheap B-Movie script. I found the characters shallow and the overall plot seemed to move through from place to place with remarkable convenience and thus did not challenge at all.
Still, it may appeal to those that enjoy the military elements, but for me the necessity for the villains to be shooting enemies, friends, accomplices etc. in every scene to portray their 'evilness' was unnecessary and weakened the characters, especially as even when given many opportunities to do the same to the central characters they of course decline, for more necessary cat stroking.
The title of the book, Kharon, refers to a virus that the primary villain intends to inflict on the world via people trafficking infected people whilst holding the antidote that he can charge for. A worthwhile plot hook perhaps, but lost in the overall desire to trap and kill Kyle Gibbs and thus becoming more of a sub plot. A shame that, as it probably had more legs as a plot.
Overall, a passable read if you want to flick through something easy, or indeed if you enjoy B-movies, but not really a book with the depth to it I tend to enjoy.

Having survived his time in the SAS and as a mercenary in some of the world's darkest days, Kyle Gibbs is living in a peaceful commune, individuals working together to provide for their families during difficult times. Rising sea levels have seen flood tides devouring the land, cities and towns are cut off, their centres impassable. Food and other resources are limited. The commune works at self-sufficiency, Gibbs is driven by his need to support his wife and child.
Everything changes in a flash. Gibbs world is shattered, he must choose between the commune and the need to return to the battle. This time the threats are far more personal. As the story unfolds Gibbs is driven by an ever widening range of emotions. Everything he holds dear is threatened. Gibbs himself is a target. One dangerous individual from his past is out for revenge. Revenge in its most terrifying and personal form. So much depends on the outcome of this struggle, possibly human survival as a deadly virus has been unleashed, governments could be held to ransom for access to a cure.
The real clinching factor for me is the reality of the characters. Be they good or evil they are all well defined individuals. The narrative draws the reader into their lives, witnessing their success, their fear, their failures. You are never sure who will win the battle, who will live to tell the tale. Will Gibbs win the battle? Will he even survive? If so what will be the personal cost and what will the future hold?
I highly recommend this book. Excellent.

A WM. SYFY Novel/KGAT - 3/Canada/North Pole/ England/United States

WM. has. penned the 3 rd novel in the Kyle Gibbs military action novel. A cure is discovered in the upper regions of the Northern Coastlines of Canada. The action moves to England where KG's wife and son are kidnapped and taken to the United States. Gibbs and company arrive in the US and the hunt begins. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
